Dues not work well

I have a recent apple watch. I was hoping VoiceinaCan would be like the reverb app for the iPhone. The reverb app is super simple to use and just works. The voice in a can app needs a lot of improvement. Everytime you start it there is a process it needs to go through before you can use it. First it needs to start. Then synchronize. Then authenticate. Then it often tells me that I seem to be offline when I am not. Then it just started listening with no interaction from me and then I have to tap it to get it to stop listening. By this time in the process I have been standing and starting at my watch for about 45 seconds to a full min. I could have used my phone to do what I want.

When VoiceinaCan finally does receive a command, it is often not able to execute it. I hope VoiceinaCan improves since I paid for it.

Love the app, but the latest update now makes it inoperable on the warch

To be clear, I love VoiceinaCan and that how actually provides a workaround to connect to Alexa when I’m not actually near my Echo devices. That said, the latest update within the past few days has made the watch app inoperable. While I can use the awake word such as “voice in a can” when lifting my arm up and speaking into the watch, VoiceinaCan constantly stays in a state of “Starting” on the watch screen and never goes to “Listening” mode. I have tried killing VoiceinaCan a few times on the watch and restarting in an attempt to troubleshoot The issue, but ,unfortunately, the same issue remains.

To slow to be useful in the wild

I had great hopes for VoiceinaCan when I heard about it. I have a large number of home automation devices and I use Alexa frequently to turn on light, change thermostat, control my entertainment system. But I found VoiceinaCan even on my own WiFi so incredibly slow that in the time it takes to get it to even start. I can grab my phone from my pocket, pop up VoiceinaCan , and click on what I want to do before my watch complication is even ready. The startup process for VoiceinaCan needs to be a lot faster to make it worthwhile. It literally takes close to minute to start the watch app. All the while you have to keep VoiceinaCan active or the whole process of starting it has to start again!

Works as advertised...

VoiceinaCan was easy to install and set up. Once you get past a couple of issues VoiceinaCan works as described. I have it working on my Series 4. VoiceinaCan works independent of my phone on both Wi-Fi and cellular. The only issues I’ve discovered when launching VoiceinaCan for the first time on the watch it will occasionally hang in listening mode and you have to press the white square to get it to continue. Subsequent requests seem to work as normal. The second issue is minor but equally annoying the auto screen rotation. Rotate your wrist away from you slightly past vertical and the screen rotates and any text response is now upside down.

Prefer option of constant listen for max 8 second

I like VoiceinaCan . But I prefer app to continue to listen for max 8 second. Prefer tapping button to start listening instead of stop listening. I get used to Alexa dot voice control. To me, it is better to follow similar behavior of Alexa dot or echo. Tap to invoke Alexa to listen. Then I can voice several commands within Alexa max 8 second listening. Tapping button repeatly to execute one voice command at a time is little inconvenient

Concerns Over Accessibility

As a blind person, I thought this might be a helpful app. Unfortunately in addition to being extremely slow to respond, VoiceinaCan itself is totally inaccessible and does not work with VoiceOver. If using VoiceOver one needs to configure VoiceinaCan through the watch instead. Additionally, it would be nice if there were some type of audio feedback in order to give a clearer sense of what’s happening. Ultimately, not a bad concept, but paying attention to accessibility and speeding up the response time should be priortized.

Awesome app One suggestion though.

I thought that Alexa on your Apple Watch was not possible, that is until I found this awesome app. I have a suggestion though. I am blind and I use voiceover. On my Echo Dot I have it set up to play a sound when I say Alexa, and when The device stops listening to me. I can press the start button, but it takes a while to start listening, some kind of beep or indication that lets me know that VoiceinaCan starts listening would be nice. Amazon's Alexa app does have a beep that when you press the Alexa button, indicates that VoiceinaCan is listening. But so far, really awesome app.

Great option

I’ve integrated Alexa for a range of functions at my home, and wanted an option to use my watch for control. VoiceinaCan delivers quite well. For me, four stars means the best option I’ve identified but desire improvements. Most notably VoiceinaCan has a slight delay while it starts and authenticates, it’s not a big problem but it’s noticeable. More noticeably it needs refinement in detecting when you are done issuing a command. Even the slightest wind noise can throw it off making it hard to use outside. Still this is a great app and 100% worth it if you use Alexa

Excellent App - It works well!

I have been using it for a week now and am very impressed. I have successfully used it to control a myriad of Alexa controlled devices (primary use of VoiceinaCan for me), asked it general informational questions and used it for weather. It’s responsive and it performs as described. You may ask “if you like it so much then why only 4 stars?” We’ll, I’ll tell ya ... it’s the name. I realize their are a bunch of things you can’t use because of copyright issues but I am begging you ... please change the name! Other than that trivial thing VoiceinaCan is great. Thanx again.

Great app and responsive developer

If you were looking for a way to use Alexa on your Apple Watch, you need VoiceinaCan. I use it all the time and it’s very convenient. I use it to control lights, music, and check the weather. I would also like to mention that the developer is very responsive to any questions or problems you may have with VoiceinaCan. I highly recommend VoiceinaCan. You can’t go wrong with the purchase.

Wow

It’s just amazing it even works with the watch without the iPhone it’s super 🤩 and for that price it’s a dealbreaker. The fact that you don’t have to say Alexa it’s great, and many adjustments and icon changes. I just hope no server working with my data in the background. And also suggest the same as other user just change the name to assistant or something like that because even having VoiceinaCan I have to look out again the name to write a review

An Excellent App So Far

I usually don't review an app right after installing it, but VoiceinaCan worked perfectly right after the install. It was very easy to install and it installed fast. I'm using an Iphone Xs Max in conjunction with the Series 4 watch. There were no glitches at all. It does just what I want it to. It turns on and off my lights and it adds to and shows my shopping list plus answers questions. My goal was to not carry my phone into the store for my Alexa shopping list. It works with wi fi and cellular. So far I am very happy with it. If I encounter any issues I will report them. I am always leaving my phone behind so this feature really adds to the function of the watch. I do like it so far.

UPDATE: Used it the first time in the grocery store on my watch with the phone left in the car. I asked it to read my shopping list. It said you have 10 items on your shopping list and then showed me the list. How convenient! My watch does have cellular connection. My goal is to leave the phone behind as much as I can. I could not do that before this fantastic app because I needed the phone to read the list. I can't tell you how many times I have laid the phone down at the register only to get to the car and realized I left it behind. VoiceinaCan now allows me to leave the phone in the car while shopping. Thank you. It is also nice to control my thirty plus light bulbs with VoiceinaCan too.

should be editors choice...

as far as im concern, VoiceinaCan is by far, the best apple watch app that i have ever installed on my apple watch. now, ive been able
to control my smart home and requests better than siri with my apple watch. i actually switched to the alexa ecosystem from google because of this life saving app. it was a hard decision, considering the money i spent on 8 google home speakers i have in my home but its worth it and no regrets. To rhe developer, Damian, keep up the good work and thanks for your hard work

VIAC Review

Hand on heart I can honestly say that Voice In A Can (VIAC) is one of the most truly useful 3rd party apps that I have installed on my Apple Watch. It works great and setup is simple. I have a lot of Alexa enabled tech and having VIAC gives me added flexibility in how I control them. One of the great advantages of VIAC is that it is not dependent upon your iPhone being nearby, working entirely from the Apple Watch. Combining VoiceinaCan with a Siri shortcut and the ‘Raise to Speak’ capability adds even more power to VoiceinaCan .

The author is very responsive to feedback and questions and should be praised for the amount of effort he has put into this offering. He has created a number of YT videos about VoiceinaCan and a website of FAQs. For me, the small, one-off price of VoiceinaCan makes it definitely one to keep and I look forward to future versions.

Excellent App and Customer Service

I have been using VoiceinaCan daily for the past 3 months. Works well. I did a device swap and number change to my apple watch yesterday. Went to reinstall and it wouldn't work. Emailed Damian (Developer) and had a response within a few hours. During the interim I went to a Apple Store to seek help, I was having trouble with a couple of other issues. It turned out to be a Apple ID problem. Although I got it fixed Damian (Developer) was on top of it, offering his help.
Love VoiceinaCan

One of my favorite Watch apps

Love being able to control my Echos with a flip of the wrist and see my shopping lists without whipping out my phone. This is my favorite kind of third-party app: one that integrates -- as much as possible -- the products of two competitors who often try to lock each other out at the expense of their respective customers. The developer of VoiceinaCan is also one of those who will take time to help you over any hurdles you have with using it as opposed to some who respond by saying "sorry you're having a bad experience. Have a nice day." I've got a lot of "take 'em or leave 'em" apps on my watch but this ain't one of them. I heartily recommend it.

Amazing

Terrific little app does just what I wanted, which is to let me control my smart home devices without my phone in hand. I had it set up and working less than two minutes after I downloaded VoiceinaCan , thanks to the developer’s very clear FAQ and excellent, quick video on how to use the shortcuts app to get “Alexa” listening when I raise my wrist and say her name. I have not been able to use the Shortcuts app before with any success, but that little video helped me figure out how to make some other shortcuts work that I hadn’t been able to do. I’m really impressed with the developer’s responsiveness (I read a lot of the reviews before purchasing) and clarity. Very happy to have VoiceinaCan!

Even better!

I thought her wrote a review about a year ago on this with a good level of satisfaction. Well this new version came out and is a vast improvement on performance and the one and only issue of in frequent log outs has been resolved. I use this quite often to open my garage door and need quick access so having these two improvements is awesome! Having Alexa on your Apple Watch work so incredibly well is also extremely handy for our house. Alexa is tied into so much as we are a technology driven house. Also Alexa has certain functionality that Siri does not and VoiceinaCan it’s the target to ensure that all functions that are possible work well on the phone and on the Apple Watch.

Hands down a great app!Must Have!

I never hardly leave reviews. But I had to do it for this. I was little upset when I realize I couldn’t use Alexa on my Apple Watch. Then I saw this. After reading a few reviews. I made the decision to give it a try. And it’s worth every penny imho! If you need access to Alexa. Then this is your app. It’s a must have. I personally used Alexa for every technological thing I own. And now I can use it on my Apple Watch. Life is now complete. Lol. But what really sold me the most is to see the actual developer taking the time to respond to the reviews. And being so honest and listens to us users. My only issue is that I wish there was way to make VoiceinaCan stay live while it’s opened. Other than that... love it! Keep up the great work my friend. And hope there’s more options to come.

This app is the entire reason I bought the Apple watch

Apple wasn’t getting another dime from me until I heard about VoiceinaCan. I. Love. Alexa. Like I can’t even explain how much I use Alexa. My kids laugh at me because I forget she’s not in the car. Siri and I had a huge falling out after that maps glitch when she got me lost in the middle of nowhere. Forget which iOS that was but it’s over forever. Anyway VoiceinaCan works great with my v3 watch and I love being able to control my mass array of smart home gadgets with it from anywhere. Truly a life changer.
