Better than Adobe Illustrator for iPad

During the time Illustrator was for iPad, it lacked many of the tools from the desktop version. And it still does at this point in time, and therefor making this app a better program. this app, a newer software, features all of the same tools as the desktop version, whereas the industry standard, Adobe, is behind. That’s a shock! What this app has that Illustrator does not is a width tool, a transform tool, a perspective tool, a knife tool, the scissors tool, the ability to add multiple appearances per object, and more layer options. As basic and important as these tools are for a vector program, Illustrator included less important functionalities such as different brush presets. this app is definitely worth a better choice for the much more generous price and more control over vector graphics. Illustrator is not ready yet for commercial release. this app is.

Edit:
Also, fantastic update of the Draw Tool continuing from end points, and I love the Fusion Tool surprise. A shape builder equivalent is something many users will love!

Very nice!

As someone who’s paid for Affinity Designer, and hated it, as well as tried Vectornator—I found it difficult to use—I’m connecting with Amadine & im finding it to be more user friendly than the two I mentioned.

I’m not a graphic designer, only an artist who’s been using Procreate for over 1 year. So, I cannot comment on the specifics of the capabilities, or rather, what it should have as a vector-based app.

I’ve, unsuccessfully, tried to learn vector-based illustration because I feel it’s a necessary next step in expanding my art. I hope to be able to produce work for my IG account, and for producing downloadable & printed products.

Thanks for Amadine! Please, please, don’t abandon Amadine, as it seems to be off to a great start, & we need a more user friendly approach to vector graphics, based on my own experience & what I’ve seen on offer in Amadine Store.

iPad and Mac

this app is such a great vector drawing application. I have purchased it for both my iPad and Mac. Having recently got a non-Wacom pen monitor on my
Mac I was pleased to find that its pressure capabilities were fully supported there (unlike other illustration apps). Additionally drawing in this app on the iPad is a joy. Sharing files between my devices has proven not just convenient but almost invaluable. It’s wonderful to have a high quality alternative to the hegemony of the legacy drawing application publisher.

Hi

Im a vector illustrator and I love it but i would love it more if there was an option to preserve your custom made strokes .... apart from this it’s perfect

Not bad

I recommend. Not bad compared to common vector drawing apps. I suggest improving the UI, more specifically, perhaps allowing people to choose - layouts, where the toolbars should go, compact vs non or full screen, everything at once or super compact. But regardless, I like it. Do recommend low price monthly or buy to purchase indefinitely. Would have not tried if it was limited.

Well Worth $10!

I learned vector drawing on Macromedia Freehand in the late 90’s. I bought it and have been using it, and an updated version, since. I’ve been searching for something similar for the iPad that isn’t a subscription; I prefer to purchase an app.

My purposes are simple. I don’t need Illustrator or Indesign (which is magical after using Pagemaker!). Okay, I’m a little behind the times. I wanted something familiar.

Imagine my elation when I discovered that this app does everything I want to do, plus some! It’s easy to use, much like what I’m accustomed to.

Thank you so much for this wonderful app!

So convenient

I started using Amadine as a replacement to adobe illustrator and needless to say, im very impressed. All the needed tools and there, and keyboard shortcuts are supported, plus the interface is so simple and it doesnt give you a headache trying to search for tools

Great, but not free

Great app, but got a lot of done work without buying pro license and now have to either pay $10 or throw away hours of work. So it isn’t truly free, it talks about not being able to save multiple documents, but I can’t even save one without paying $10.

Only thing i can say is just wow

Very professional, clean and easy to use. I love it and this is surprising for me that Amadine is free to use

Labor intensive

I’m kinda confused on why I need to tap twice on a tool in. Or dear to use it. The UI is kinda bland and you really have no settings to change. Hoping this makes a massive overhaul soon.

A Few Improvements Away

I feel like Amadine is a handful of small improvements, and two big ones, away from being competitive with paid apps, and I say that as a fan of Affinity’s apps and Desktop software. Vectornator is the only thing close, but its UI isn’t nearly as friendly to the iPad workflow.

Amadine desperately needs two things. First is the ability to set more options than just color of guides and a couple other things. Second is for palm rejection / disable touch for tool input to be part of those options.

It should say a lot about what I feel the potential of Amadine is when I give it 4 stars but also say I’ve never encountered worse palm rejection in my entire life. There’s clearly an attempt at it, but using my Apple Pencil 2 I still spent a good third of my time building shapes on dealing with stray points my hand placed, which is kinda unacceptable when the Pencils are the closest you’ll get to proper mouse input and the normal accuracy of vector tools on iPad.

The ability to disable or tweak guides is a must, as at the moment the smart guides are too aggressive while making adjustments to points and not aggressive enough when moving large objects around the canvas. The ability to customize gestures would also be appreciated as I found some desired functionality only available as part of compound gestures that included ones I did not, especially when constraining scale.

Beyond these the issues are small and don’t prevent Amadine from functioning as intended. Amadine could use canvas rotation, it’s very odd that it doesn’t have it. The UI scale on anchor points needs to increase on zoom, it’s borderline too small to begin with, and remaining that size for detail work is a pain. Things like the edit segment by dragging tool are difficult to use, likely because the segment UI remains extremely small even at max zoom, and I found myself having to attempt adjustments multiple times before the program responded. It would as be nice if tools like edit segment by dragging were context sensitive. Also on that topic it’d be nice if edit segment by dragging averaged the new handles with the point it was dragged from and any other handles on the originating anchor instead of just sticking them out in the direction of the drag, as I don’t think it ever gave me anchor handles that didn’t need to be fixed - thus kinda defeating the point of the tool to not require you to mess with anchors to adjust stuff. There are a few others, but these are the issues I encountered most frequently.

Beyond that I think Amadine blows other free offerings away in terms of ease of use and intuitiveness. It also lets you output svg instead of just its own proprietary format.

Has promise, but very buggy

I like the interface and UX decisions, but even drawing a single shape caused Amadine to wig out and stop rendering correctly.

Full Version?

How: …Where do I install the full version of this app?

Amazing!

I loved Amadine on the Mac and I love it on the iPad. I use it to make thumbnails for my YouTube videos and it’s easy to use.

Excellent

I think this is my favorite vector tool for iPad. Just so clean and well done, but needs some adjustments. The Pen tool should work just like we’ve known the pen tool to work since the earliest day of it. Currently it doesn’t behave like it does in something like Illustrator or Vectornator. Let’s say you are trying to draw a crescent moon, when you close the path and pull the pen tool should be curving the line in the shape of a crescent moon. There shouldn’t be another step to achieve this. Currently you have to go in and put the curve in manually which is just not how we all know how a pen tool behaves. Really hoping you guys can get an update in to fix this. I’d love to subscribe or buy the software but that small function in the pen tool is crucial to workflow.

Thoughtfully Crafted

I already have two vector apps (each with its own advantages, disadvantages, and feel) installed on my iPad, so I wasn’t looking for another one. But I happened to see a developer spotlight on this app in Amadine Store, and downloaded the free trial which generously has no time limit (just can’t save to the gallery). Once I got familiar with the tools and menus, I noticed how easy, simple, and most of all pleasureable it was to create my artwork. On top of that, there’s no subscription. 10 bucks for an app this good? Sure, I’ll keep my other apps around, but I’ve fallen in love with this app.
If you’re a vector lover, I highly recommend taking this app for a test drive.

Exactly what I was looking for and more

I use Adobe Illustrator on desktop and have been looking for an app to use on my iPad to take art with me on the go. After trying several other apps (including Illustrator on the iPad), I found they were missing core features I need for my art style. I finally found this app, and it has every feature that I need and is easy to use. I’m thrilled!

Have found some showstopper issues

Although very promising, have found some critical errors and omissions in Amadine.

1. After a style of freehand pen has been selected, it should not revert to the default setting every time a new sketch within the same document is started (defaulting to no colors selected). And when a freehand fill area is selected to edit the shape, selected fill colors should not disappear every time a line is moved. This is extremely aggravating.

2. Please add ability to mirror selected objects. This is a useful feature for graphic design and pattern making.

3. Please consider adding a way to duplicate an action. For example, in Illustrator if an object is selected and Option-dragged on the canvas, it duplicates the object, then merely typing Command-D will repeat that action. Creates a step and repeat that way.

Even with this issues, Amadine shows remarkable promise so far.

Thank you.

Awesome app!

this app feels really natural for me, although I'm just starting with the vector graphics. I was able to find my way through all the features thanks to tutorials and now thinking of using this skill not only as a hobby, but as a support for my daily work. Love the interface and how I can make use of all the native gestures. Would love to see rounded corners!

Great app!

I am not a pro graphic designer, but I’ve been trying different softwares over the years that would help me transform my imagination into illustrations. this app's perfect balance of simplicity and features can do the trick! The Snap to Grid option enables creation of figures where lines neatly meet curves and axes. Love the recolor, as it gives me more freedom in color choice for my works.

Had Great Potential

This could be an amazing vector app. When they first launched they were listening to feedback and adding important improvements. Sadly, Amadine seems to be stagnating now. For example, how clipping masks are implemented is tedious and unintuitive, and could easily be improved. Clipping masks are one of those core essential feature in vector illustration, and getting it right can make a big difference to artist productivity. Keep listening to your community.

Easier to use.

Out of all the vector drawing apps in Amadine store this one is the easiest to get right into and use. If you don't like Affinity Designer because of the ginormous interface, try this one instead!

Really want to like it

I really want to like Amadine but after downloading, I couldn’t export my creation to check its compatibility with my other programs. I don’t want to pay for this if I’m not going to be able to use seamlessly with my other programs. Why can’t I svg export without paying?

By

I can’t even export a file

I was gonna use Amadine to make stuff and export them as svgs but I have to pay.

🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨

Please, no artificial intelligence I don’t wanna sign in. I don’t trust Art apps that make me sign in…. I just switched from Curve to your app because of that very same thing

By

So far, so good! Just curious about Image Trace?

Hey! I’ve been using this app for a few months now after deleting Vectornator / Linearity Curve for personal reasons. So far, this app has been really great for me!
However, I’m wondering if an Image Trace feature is available in Amadine , and if so, where is it, or if not, are you working on that feature? It’d be really great to bring a scanned paper and pen drawing into this app to help me with comics and stuff! Or simply take a digital PNG drawing from another art app and turn it into a Vector object in this app!

By

Not User Friendly

I've been making digital art for over 5 years and have been wanting to make the switch to making vector art for a while now.

I understand vector art is more difficult, but I'll never understand why every application that uses it makes absolutely no sense.

Drawing lines just doesn't work, each thing you draw basically has to be a full shape. Erasing, which I thought would be the simplest process, is harder than just drawing a line.

Just give up on vector art and go get procreate. Way less frustrating and it actually works

By

Very disappointed

Amadine was great—the controls were easy to learn and I could tell I could learn more. Amadine had a lot of potential for an aspiring vector artist like myself. I was going to recommend it to others due to its intuitive nature. However, what made the deal shatter to pieces was having to pay premium to export my drawings.

There was zero indication that I needed to pay to export, and it’s not even listed within the help section. I skipped the tutorials because I have firsthand experience drawing vector art. I completed my first piece of art there, satisfied with the way things were going.

Until it rescinds the subscription model for exporting, I am NOT recommending Amadine to other people. I feel disappointed.

Boot

this app is an ok app. I’ve been using it for a little while and now has been booting me out of Amadine within a couple min of working on a very important design for a client. It erases what I was working on every time. Please fix these issues. I want to continue working with is app.

By

Pay to export? Why?

I was super happy to have found Amadine when Vectornator changed to Curve and implemented the subscription only method of using it. All the tools and following the tutorials help a lot to create the logos I wanted to create but to my unfortunate discovery, I have to pay for Amadine in order to export. I saw nowhere where it CLEARLY states that you have to pay to export. It is truly unfair as this was a project I worked on for months. I think you should at least give users free export for one file and then mention they will have to pay for the next. The lifetime one time pay is enticing but like many other apps I feel like that will only last for so long before everyone will need a subscription and we‘ll have to pay again. These apps are getting so disappointing to work with.

By

Decided to get Lifetime License within a day!

As a person looking for an alternative to Adobe Illustrator, this app proved to be an impressive alternative that had all the tools I was looking for — at such an wonderful price, too! Regardless if you are just getting started or are already familiar with making vector art in other programs, this app is a very simple app to use that makes doodling on the go comfortable!

If it had one setback, I would say the inability to export other file formates that support layers is regrettable. I would like to animate some of my vector art, but layers would be necessary.
