98.5 The Sports Hub Reviews

Really liked the old version of 985TheSportsHub - super quick to get to replays for shows I missed, very straightforward "Hour 1", "Hour 2", etc listings. Now the shows are in some haphazard order and mixed-in with a bunch of other stuff, with crazy long descriptive titles instead of the timestamp, which are completely impossible to read quickly (in the car, especially) and very touchy to scroll in the exact spot without accidentally playing the podcast.

Please add back a quick screen with just the show names, then pick the hour - and include the weekend shows! Now TuneIn is better to listen to 98.5 than their own app.

Can’t understand why there are preroll video ads for a radio station that has ads as part of its regular programming. If you are in an area where your connection goes in and out, you are subjected to the same ad with every reconnect. Also, it keeps you from clicking your phone off while that ad is playing... the audio stops instead of continuing from the lick screen. So you have to unlock, play wait for the ad to finish, then start the audio. Super frustrating.

I love this radio station. Listen to it all day on 985TheSportsHub and I live in Illinois. This new version is the worst. Listening to a live show is brutal. The stream consistently drops and 985TheSportsHub closes. Sometimes it will work for a whole segment but as soon as a commercial comes on the stream stops. Most of the time it plays for like a minute or two and just drops. I can only listen to this station now after each hour of a show is uploaded. Bring back the old version of 985TheSportsHub because this one is completely useless. I tried using my Alexa yesterday to listen and that was better but even then it would stop and tell me the station was unavailable.

985TheSportsHub is built to milk every possible penny out of advertisements without a care for the experience of someone trying to use it. It plays a live feed of the radio that already includes all the over-air commercials and sponsored segments, but they also feel the need to play a video ad EVERY TIME YOU PAUSE AND THEN PLAY. Need to pause it for a second -> Listen to an ad before you can resume Ignore an incoming call -> Listen to an ad before you can resume Take an airpod out of your ear for a second -> Listen to an ad before you can resume Accidentally play another piece of audio/video -> Listen to an ad before you can resume

Leave it to a greedy developer to utterly ruin a decent app. Once they start prioritizing ads and other nonsense within 985TheSportsHub and the performance of the streaming suffers, you know it’s only a matter of time until people dump 985TheSportsHub and look elsewhere.

Now I get to listen to the SAME ad for insurance at least 16 times a day!

Once these developers realize they don’t exist in a vacuum, and they can’t force feed their shovelware on people the more apt they are to actually create an app that works as it’s expected to work. 👎

It was bad enough I had to listen to an ad before I could listen to a radio station that had commercials, but now I have to WATCH an ad before I can LISTEN to a radio station? If you swap off 985TheSportsHub , it stops the video and you gotta go back. Also it seems to be working much worse since the updates.

I agree with the other user’s review, the fact podcasts are grouped together is horrible from a user perspective. I used to be able to group shows towards the top that I listened to. Now I have to scroll through ALL podcasts for the day if I want to listen to the morning/early afternoon shows. It also limits the amount of previous streams we can access on a per-show basis due to the grouping. As a long time listener, I’ve dealt with the extra ads and laggy app but this is almost unusable now.

Let me start by saying it’s about time. I hope that you guys strive to make your app the first app I get notifications from when it comes to Boston Sports. Love the auto start stream. That’s phenomenal. Loved that you added the option to shut off auto-start as well. Would love quick access to articles, rosters, and standing\schedules in future. All in all great start here 98.5!!!

Beasley media has now added pre-roll and mid-roll commercials to the live stream and it has consequently ruined the listening experience. Every time I click play I have to sit through a 30 second commercial at the start of the stream, and a Mid-roll commercial will play in the middle of a live segment. It's incredibly frustrating. I have since deleted 985TheSportsHub and switch back to tunein. If you start and stop the stream two to three times on tunein you can bypass the pre-roll commercial.

Please revert to the old version that allowed you to find and stream previous shows. This new update essentially brings you to the website and doesn’t play the show through the in-app player which defeats the purpose of 985TheSportsHub . To compound this, there’s more clunkiness and lack of functionality than ever with this update and it does a huge disservice to the great shows that it hosts. I’ll be uninstalling and just using the website until everything is fixed.

The live stream function used to work, but now it doesn’t.

When I click on the play button for the live stream, I get a video ad, and then silence. I click on the play button again, it turns unselectable for a few seconds, and then becomes selectable again. The stream never plays, no matter how many times I click on the play button. Sitting here in silence with my headphones on for a stream that never plays. Thanks for nothing.

Stop with the ads when you go to play the livestream. You shouldnt have to listen to or watch a 30 second ad every single time you pause the livestream when there are commercials on the livestream already.

Audio also constantly drops out on the livestream for 10-20 seconds at a time and really takes away from the shows.

I have to look down while I’m driving to unlock it and hit the play button. When you hit play while the phone is locked, there is either an error message or it buffers endlessly until you unlock it. Sometimes this process results in 2 simultaneous audio streams playing at the same time and the only way to stop the audio is to completely shut off 985TheSportsHub . Please fix this bug.

985TheSportsHub is trash. They don’t update the podcasts frequently. So if I miss an hour I want to listen to I have to wait until next week until they upload it. All of the shows are buried at the bottom, 985TheSportsHub is clunky has a hard time refreshing. Sometimes they try and trick you and they’ll be a wrestling in Jimmies sheets episode masquerading as a felger and mazz episode. They should take some of their New England fat loss money and and update this sh$t.

It’s nice to have 98.5 streaming on my phone again, but 985TheSportsHub is pretty buggie still. Functionality on the lock screen doesn’t work well, often causing two streams to play sounding like an echo-chamber. Functionality with AirPods is the same, stopping the stream is fine, playing it doesn’t seem to work. On a iPhone X, latest iOS.

985TheSportsHub works great. Installed it yesterday with no problems. However, I’ve noticed my battery life is awful since then. Turns out 985TheSportsHub absolutely destroys battery life and it was only used for an hour each day. Do not download until battery issues are solved!!!

If you’re like me and like to listen to the show’s replays, its much easier to use google or apple podcast. The only redeeming quality is that you can listen to the show live.

The interface is not particularly user friendly and there should be separate pages for reading news and latest shows.

Every time I clicked 985TheSportsHub all I got was a steady steam of ads. Is there any content at all? I’ve even checked vs the radio and 985TheSportsHub had ads while the radio had sports talk. Do listeners have to be subjected to a barrage of ads before any content comes on?

What do you do when ads come on the radio or tv? I change the channel.

Not worth it to wait for mediocre content

985TheSportsHub became everything it said it wasn’t. It now loads ads when you press play. You get ads during commercial breaks. It no long auto plays when you open it. The benefit of 985TheSportsHub was supposed to not have national/pop-up ads and automatically play when opened. It is none of these anymore - it’s no better than TuneIn or any other app

Changed up the functionality of 985TheSportsHub sometime in the last few days. Pretty much useless now. Have to start show over every time I stop the car. Halfway through a show shut car off get back in. Have to start over again. Fix 985TheSportsHub . Worked fine before.

I listen to 985TheSportsHub daily from morning until night while at work and home. I absolutely hate the new look and functionality of the new version and have constant streaming issues. It takes so long for the hours to post compared to before when it was instant. As someone who moved out of New England this year I rely on 985TheSportsHub to give me my sports fix! Also, please include post game Patriots content (all of it) and the weekend shows! Plus Adam Jones show seems to get shafted for content as well.

When this first came out they touted straight to programming which it did. Now you have to listen to the same three crappy ads before it takes you to programming. Frustrating as hell!!

this happens: listen to 985 on car radio, turn off car, phone starts streaming thru speakerphone with controls present on lock screen.. AND 985TheSportsHub AINT EVEN OPEN. and there are no settings to disable this ‘feature.’

i kinda like listening to hub shows via bluetooth but am this close to deleting it.

This used to be a 5 star app that worked great. Recently they added into ads when live streaming. These 30 second spots are ridiculously annoying and cover up live radio. Will also play every time you re-open 985TheSportsHub , even if 5 second after you close it. Done using it until these are removed.

I was happy with 985TheSportsHub until a recent update. I don’t know which update caused this but it must have been in the past 2 weeks. Every single time I hit play, a video ad starts and there’s no way to exit it. You already have ads playing during the radio cast, do you really need to have a video ad?
