Editing

I’ve been buying Choice Of and Hosted Games for years. Often the best stories come from unknown or little published authors that premiere through the Hosted brand. Unfortunately, because Hosted isn’t “premium” like Choice Of, editing is absolutely bare bones. Typos, incorrectly formatted paragraphs, you name it. But you still pay Choice Of prices ($4-6 average). I’ve regretted most harsh reviews I’ve posted, but I’ll say this with conviction: lazy editing from a company that specializes in text-only apps is ridiculous. These new authors deserve a fair chance at a decently reviewed script and their readers sure as hell expect as much. I think “Aegis” will be my last purchase through HostedGames.

A great concept but needs much improvement.

I’ve been reading on HostedGames for about a year now, and it was pretty good, aside from almost every story needing to be bought for 5-6 dollars. There were a few free ones that were really good, but now you have to watch an ad every 5-10 minutes to continue reading the story which is dumb. I get you need money to survive, but needing to pay 5 dollars to skip ads that pop up every 5 minutes on a “free” story make me not want to read that story. I’ve even started reading from choice of games, who have the same stories, except you don’t have to watch a ton of ads to ready stories like this. The stories are great, but too many ads. At least make the ads like the tiny ones on the bottom of the page like you guys used to only have.

Terrible Rating System

This new app completely removes the ability to write and read in-depth reviews. Users can only enter a number rating which provides very broad/vague information on a game.

Even when you sort the games through categories like “Best Rating” it’s not an accurate representation. A game with only 3 reviews can be ranked much higher than a game with 25 reviews simply because they have a higher score. This makes the entire rating system useless.

Reading in-depth reviews was a reliable source for us readers to gauge how a game is and if we’re interested in buying it. This also hurts the content creators because they’re no longer receiving feedback from the readers and have no way of really knowing what people think of their games.

Great in theory, bad in practice

Don’t get me wrong, I love having all of my games in one place that I can access “at any time” (when I have a Wi-Fi connection).

However, this, and the Choice of Games app, are very buggy, even after three years since their debuts. For one, my games never seem to track my purchases across devices. I’ve had three different phones over the last three years since downloading HostedGames , and even with my account being the same through each one, I’ve had to email choice of games support to get my purchases back. Even on the choice of games website, after logging in, games I’ve purchased aren’t in my library.

My second gripe is that if I have HostedGames open in the background, when coming back to it after a time, HostedGames while restart whatever game I’m playing from the beginning, no matter how much I’ve progressed. I could be three pages in, or three pages til the end, and I’ll have to go through everything again.

I love every game HostedGames has, and I’ll never delete HostedGames , but I know you guys can do better. The omnibus apps have been out for way too long for these issues to still be present. Please, do better for your fans.

Good

So everything is perfect the games the set up the menus all of it the only one thing that gets me really really to the point of raging quitting deleting the thing and then re-downloading HostedGames the next day is the fact that once you choose an option something bad happens and the other is checkpoint in the game however there are no buttons that say reload last checkpoint and that really really bothers me because then I have to restart even if I’m in the middle of the game and if I want a perfect game which I do sorry for you now I would love to have a reload last check. Maybe it’s because there’s something wrong with the coding or something that you can’t get it to happen like that but I would love to have something like that.

Almost perfect!

With this last update HostedGames has become almost perfect. You can now see what you previously viewed, your favorites and what you have purchased. These along with the search function really help to organize things when you have some who has invested a lot of time in these stories.

My only suggestion would find a way to categorize the different stories with tags that can be used to help people find stories that have similar elements. Also a comment section or a way to rate each story in app. This isn’t totally necessary but it would help in deciding which ones a player should try.

Hosted games, Choice of games, and Hearts choice

I’ve personally been enjoying stories on all these sights and it is incredibly fun and interesting to enjoy a piece of literature that you can select the outcome. When I play these games I play on mobile. That being said I have a few issues with the UI that you use.
When I put on dark mode in HostedGames I want everything to be in dark mode including the menu and the top bar in the story. I love stories with replay abilities but there is no way to delete saves. Or depending on the story adding a save system you can use mid story so one accidental choice ruins your play through. I really enjoy these games but these things get on my nerves a bit. But out of all of those things I listed I really want to see the complete dark mode on Choice of games, Hosted games, and Hearts choice.

Love the game, just one glitch...

I love this game, and the prices are very reasonable! The stories are amazing, and my favorite is the Wayhaven Chronicles. That’s where the glitch comes in. I can’t purchase the second book. I don’t know if this is because I have the “ask a parent” feature on, or if this is a problem for everyone, but I press the purchase button, and...nothing. It’s been that way since it came out. I thought it would be fixed with the update last night, but it hasn’t 😭

All Awesome EXCEPT for a REALLY Annoying Glitch

There are some games that I really love but have given up on just because they keep resetting to the very beginning when I log off HostedGames no matter how far I am into the game. I wish saving your place in the game were an option for all games, but it’s not so I’m scared of closing HostedGames now lest I have to start over.
There are some games that never do this, however, and my experience in those cases is practically perfect. Again, the only complaint is not having a save option.

Community College Hero 2

As someone who’s been waiting for this game just about since the first one was released, I’m more than happy to say it exceeded my expectations!!

The first game did a good job of setting the world up and highlighting potential conflicts, and this one followed through perfectly on everything the first promised. Some of the stats get refined, which was a nice touch up since they’re easier to navigate than the first game. The length was great, the choices actually came into play, and while I’ve only done one run so far, I believe the replay value will be pretty high just because of the branching options the story offers at several points. You also really got a chance to flesh out just what kind of hero your MC is, so that was another bonus. On top of that, all the other characters’ personalities play perfectly against everyone else’s, and by the end of the game, I felt even closer to them than I did by the finish of the first.

Overall, probably the best middle installment for a series out of all the CoGs. Looking forwards to seeing how the series is wrapped up!!

Amazing

HostedGames has so many amazing stories that I perhaps never would’ve gotten to immerse myself in had it not been made. Every story I’ve played has been immensely delightful, and I am able to become fully invested in my character and the world around him. The stories are all very reasonably priced, and it is very nice that you are able to play a preview of the story before buying. I hope there are more stories added soon!

Some diamonds among the heaps of coal.

I love both choice of games as well as hosted games while in my opinion the choice of games app has better books and stories some of my favorite book series are on hosted games such as the Swords of Infinity series and the Samurai of Hyuga series. If you are looking for some more “grounded” or realistic books I would go for hosted games while if you are looking for more fantasy titles or new worlds in a sense go for choice of games

Good game

Long time player, still feel like room for improvement. Love the story, management of base and group. I would like to see more choices for base construction. Such as for ex. Armory, living quarters, maybe a mounted 50 cal from one of those jeeps on the wall, looking forward to the distillery Sean’s going to build, other than that game is solid. Saw metal and metallic parts still not clear if there’s a difference. Would love for there to be a way to save some the characters who die. I’m looking forward to 4th installment.

The Grim and I: It’s Not All Grim

What a delightful, intense, beautiful game. Not at all what I expected. Grim in parts, but also witty, surprising, funny, and intensely emotional. There were scenes where I literally teared up. Dreamlike, shocking, at times all too real. Your choices really do affect the story. The author does a marvelous job of putting you in the shoes of the recently deceased. The reader is by turns confused, frustrated, touched, determined, and in my case, ultimately victorious. Replay value looks to be high. I’ll definitely be playing again!

Wayhaven Chronicles: Book Two

I had very high hopes for this sequel and it did not disappoint at all! The characters are their own and feel as if they could be real people you see in everyday life. There’s a plentiful amount of choices, so you don’t feel boxed into certain reactions or forced to pick between two extremes. The characters will actually change their attitudes toward you when you change yours. It also isn’t obvious as to how your decision will affect the storyline. If I had to pick an aspect I liked least, it would be continuity only because there are moments that feel short but somehow last an entire morning or afternoon (though that honestly doesn’t bother me much). Loved every second of my first play through and now I intend to start another :)

Community College Hero 2.5

I’ve been playing the og demo since it came out so I’m very happy to see it finally completed! It adds more character interactions for the side characters which I generally love to see. It adds cute/fun little moments for your ROs as well. There’s also the unlockable character centered short stories you can get. Dr. Hover’s is my favorite of the three. 2.5 really helped to build on the Afterthoughts which will be important for their book 3 side quest! It’s nice to see the author try new things and really build on his skills since the first book.

Wayhaven Chronicles

The only reason why I downloaded HostedGames was to be able to read this series “Wayhaven Chronicles: Book One.” My cousin recommended me to read it because of how well written and addicting this story has become. She definitely did not let me down as I began to read and began obsessing over this series. I love that the author lets us decide where the lead character goes and to whom she trusts or dislikes. The author has put a lot of thought and work into this series and it shows because of how great of a job she did. If you are interested in crime and vampires/super natural this is the book series for you!

The Golden Rose

An amazing game! Beautifully written and detailed, in most titles I’ve played that has longer descriptions of the environment it’s felt tiresome and irrelevant, but in Rose the author has such talent that their writing brings you into the world of the game(as it should be considering it’s all written word)

If you want to play a game where everyone down to the passing background characters are interesting and well written then I would definitely give this story a try, it’s well worth the money!

The story is so, so interesting. I love how the main character even has their own background independent of your roleplay so that they feel part of the story instead of just an observer of events which can happen in some games.

It’s a long read with tons of places to explore and things to do so I highly recommend it. I’ve been waiting a few years since the demo released to play the full experience and I can tell you it exceeded my already high expectations.

I could go on for many more paragraphs singing the authors praises, but instead I’ll begin my next playthrough of The Golden Rose

Breach: the archangel job

I have played a lot of games both by choice of games llc and hosted games and I have got to say... I have never read a story that was as good as this one. Every time I thought I was going to die I got lucky, and every time I thought I was going to succeed it never always went my way. I thought it was going to be very stereotypical when I started it, but it truly blew me away. It was funny and serious and always new how to keep me interested. All of the characters are unique and interesting in their own ways and they all have depth as well. This game is a true 10/10 for me. Even if you don’t like how HostedGames works, I ask you to please just take the time and the few dollars it takes to enjoy this amazing story that still has more to come.

Now with search bar

The search bar is a nice addition. Currently not as useful since there isn’t much of a selection at the moment, but once more games are available on HostedGames I’m sure it’ll be a much appreciated feature. Will games released before HostedGames be moved to HostedGames as well? I have a few Hosted game titles that I’ve purchased and it would be nice to be able to access them all from the same app.
