Latest firmware breaks stuff

I had this working for several cooks, but after updating to the latest firmware the probes will not register in GrillEyePRO . The screen just displays a message saying no probes connected yet I get readings on the actual device. Have tried resetting, closing and opening GrillEyePRO , turning the device on and off, none of it works. Says I have a strong bluetooth connection and I get disconnect alarms and alarms that say the probes are lower than a preset too, so something is very wrong with GrillEyePRO .

Update: Sure, uninstalling everything, updating to the new iOS (which breaks other stuff and has its own problems) works to fix the problem. But when I have do that or wait 2-3 days for a response when I was planning on cooking one day isn’t a reasonable solution. I’ve already got every prepared and on the smoker and I just expect it to work. At the very least you need to have a forum for support where other users and developers can collaborate and provide answers and solutions to problems like this. The fact that the only way to get support was to leave an unfavorable review is kind of absurd. If there is another way to get help then it’s certainly not easy to find. Googling problems with the device shows almost nothing, and the documentation is about the same.

Disappointed

I was really excited when I got this especially from Costco. I was looking forward to having a wifi thermometer where I could monitor the temps from anywhere as long as I was connected to WiFi, at least from my garage while my grill is in the back yard. Nope! It keeps dropping WiFi connection like a hot potato so I have to keep my phone within 20 feet of the device so it can use Bluetooth.

The device shows BT and 5 WiFi bars and my phone shows full bars, BUT once the device looses WiFi connection, and it religiously does, it can’t pick up any WiFi signals even though the phone I use GrillEyePRO on has full bars. I finally bought a WiFi extender which is 12 feet away from the device, and the device itself shows 4 bars, but GrillEyePRO still can’t find ANY WiFi signals for me to connect to.

I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling GrillEyePRO several times, but I am always seriously frustrated every time I use it. The only reason it even gets one star is it is the only device I found that reads 8 probes. Otherwise, I can’t wait for something better to come out.

I have received two different grilleye pro plus thermometers. Neither one of them have worked. Both had the exact same problem, they can’t update the new firmware and use Wi-Fi the way that they say they can. The thermometers freeze and crash and then cannot be reset after you attempt to update the firmware. From that point the only way that you can use the thermometer is through Bluetooth and it constantly drops Bluetooth connection. Customer service is zero help whatsoever, you can only contact him through email, and I seem to really not care or want to talk very much as most of the responses you get back from them are two lines Long and contain extremely obvious instructions that everyone would have already tried. You cannot call them on the phone to ask for a real time customer service help. And their devices just simply don’t work. Trust me don’t buy this don’t use GrillEyePRO the entire product isn’t worth it.

Same issue over and over

This a my fist written review and I’m only writing it because I was so excited to get this thermometer. I seen it last week in Costco and told my wife that I wanted it for Father’s Day. Well today it finally came and I was ready to BBQ. After setting everything up I walked about 10 feet from the thermometer and it started beeping and my phone disconnected. I thought this was weird that it didn’t switch over to WiFi so I moved it closer with no luck. Then I moved my modem, no luck. My modem is literally 10 feet from the dang thing and will not connect. Let me add I can literally be at the park down the street from my house (about 300 ft) and still be on WiFi. Took the first one back thinking it was bad and the second one did the same thing. Got on here to read the reviews and I’m not the only one with this issue. Not worth the money.

Great probes, terrible software

I have had this for a few months now. As long as I constantly check GrillEyePRO manually I can get the current temp of the meat. Graphing only works for the first few minutes of a smoke, then just loads when I try to go to the screen. Notifications don’t work most of the time, and has started sending notifications after the device is off. I grilled 2 days ago, and the notifications started coming through at 4 am this morning. I got 10 of them before I got up and disabled notifications on the device.

Garbage app DO NOT BUY THIS GEAR

Update: I uninstalled this garbage app since it kept spamming me with notifications about a probe being under temperature, despite, you know, the unit being turned off with no probes attached.

Update: I also got an email from this company offering a “free” replacement. I didn’t take them up on the offer.

I mean. Look at the other low rated reviews.

GrillEyePRO is at best an example of how not to make an iOS app, what with its janky UI that clearly indicates this is indeed lowest bidder shovelware.

Beyond that, it doesn’t even do its basic tasks at all. Constant disconnects, firmware updates that makes basic functionality stop working. Alarms and notifications that just spam you constantly.

And of course the company in question is nowhere to be seen. They just show up here with copypasta from their equally useless website, essentially punishing you for buying their product.

Spend the money and buy some thermoworks gear or the maverick. If you’ve just bought it, return it.

From the hardware to GrillEyePRO to the company, it’s junk all the way through.

My food was finished...YESTERDAY!

So 24 hours after I’ve completed cooking my food (yes...it’s all gone and the dishes are done) my trustee GrillEye Pro app kindly keeps informing me that my food has reached the desired temperature! Oh, and apparently the grill was too hot too. Why do these phantom alerts keep plaguing me well after my food is complete, the temp probes removed, the unit put away, and GrillEyePRO shutdown?

Another issue, my number 5 input was reading as 42F on the device screen but correctly reading on GrillEyePRO .

Another issue, GrillEyePRO would not display the temp history correctly...it kept showing an incorrect single temp or only a very limited segment of a two combined temps - I’m puzzled.

Won't update

Brand new out of the box and it won't stay connected to the internet. Also it can't seem to find the router unless I literally place it within 5 feet of the actual unit. No other pieces of tech have any trouble connecting from anywhere in the house and most of the perimeter. And if that's not enough, it won't update the firmware. 9 times out of 10, it says there is no connection. The other time it will start downloading the new firmware until it hits 70% complete. Then it throws up the same "no connection" error. This is going back to Costco immediately. What a piece of junk. Wasted a couple hours tonight trying to get this thing to work.

Has potential

I really hate products that rely solely on WiFi and blue tooth connections for this reason. GrillEyePRO is constantly losing connection. Every ten to fifteen minutes it send you an alarm that it’s been disconnected. I really wish it would work properly.

Hardware great! Software needs work still but a lot better.

I got the GrillEye Pro at Costco and it didn’t have the update that enables WiFi yet. It worked great when I was in Bluetooth range. Now with the cloud update, I don’t have to be in range which is better but the graphing function no longer works. That was a super great feature for those of us using it on a smoker. The graphing was helpful so I could log my smoker temps over time and make adjustments but now, when I try to view the graph, it tries to update continuously and never actually loads a graph. The graphing before would also load previous cooks as part of the current graph which was really annoying. Can there be a way to purge old graphs and only have the current cook displayed? Of course it should have the ability to actually load a graph too. Would love if the dev team could consider this for a future update. This is a really nice piece of gear and despite the issues, I would buy it again.

Needs work

Keep in mind that I have only used this for one brisket cook, so I am new to GrillEyePRO . First thing I noticed on my iPad was that unless GrillEyePRO was actually open, I did not get any of the alarm notifications. I think that I have everything set up on the iPad correctly for notifications. Also I noticed that the graph would not load, but for this cook, that didn’t really matter. Keeping hopeful that things will improve.
I believe it’s only fair to the company to let them know about issues and give them a chance to make it happen. Keep in mind they are making this device work on multiple platforms and devices.

I’d really appreciate more control of alerts and better connection. Is it Bluetooth is it network is it both? I don’t know, but one thing it’s not..... is always connected to my phone. Though while using GrillEyePRO my phone is always on the network, it seems I’m only connected to the GrillEye device when I’m within 20 feet and in Direct line of sight.

Come on..... if I’m that close I don’t meet my phone.....I’ll just look at the device. Keep working on connection stability guys....... you’ll get there I have faith.

Much improvement in app and support

So it was thanksgiving day. I was having issues connecting to the cloud. I went into support and it actually offered a chat. Not only this but the technical support person Chris sent me a link to get on line and do a web session where he could see the phone and app and unit and what everything was doing. Turns out it was not connecting to the internet because of Amazon’s failure last week. Hours later it just came up. But Chris was patient and helpful. I do believe the application has come very far from the problems I have had in the past. It still has some corks with the graphs and still has some from getting disconnect messages after you have closed out which require you to remove GrillEyePRO and go through a process. All in all it’s come a far way and has gotten much better and their support was very good and very responsive and continues to me. I know they do care. The product is a great idea and when it works it works well for me. The magnet could stand to be a little stronger so it sticks to the grill. The notifications on disconnect could use some work. The graphs still seem slow at times or as you get through the cook on longer cooks. I don’t see this with other products. Hopefully they will keep making improvements. Thanks to Chris Vos for all his great support and responsiveness. I continue to believe in the product and what it can do. Thank you

New firmware fixes major issues

I was having serious issues with the system disconnecting from Wi-Fi and choosing Bluetooth as the preferred connection. I updated the firmware during my last cook and it appears to have solved all of the issues. I haven’t tried accessing it from the cloud yet. Giving three stars for now until I use it more and try all of the features. Will update to 4 stars if it proves to be robust.

Very straight forward and easy to use.
Works great and very easy to customize for special temps or cooker temps to monitor grate temp.
Customer support is OUTSTANDING!!
My only issue was resolved with excellent customer support to diagnose and suggest actions that immediately fixed the only issue I had (quit switching to Wi-Fi when I got out of Bluetooth range).
FWIW, this was all I had to do to get everything functioning perfectly again.
​1. Delete GrillEyePRO , shutdown & restart your iphone, then download/install app again
​2. Reboot the device by pressing the power button for 10 seconds
​3. Open the device and pair it with GrillEyePRO

They’ve really improved!

Read a lot of bad reviews about the GrillEye pro plus along with the glitchy app. Saw this on sale though and thought it was worth a shot at the lowered price. Glad I did! Still a little frustrating getting started, but now everything works and it’s magical! I monitored my last 12 hour smoke away from my house, so the new cloud update works. Product held a strong connection the entire time. Alarms with temp thresholds are great. Graphs are helpful, but could use some more upgrades. Probes were accurate. Here are a few things to note in regards to unboxing: updating the firmware gives an error unless you hotspot from your phone and then update (not sure why, but that is the workaround). Then it wouldn’t connect to the cloud right away. Reboot the unit and fully exit GrillEyePRO a time or two and then give it 10 minutes to connect to the cloud for the first time. After that, I never had to wait for anything again. Then, the graphs. If they fail to load or you are starting a new grill session, reset the graph data in settings and that fixes it. I hope they keep perfecting this bc it’s a great way to grill without breaking the bank for remote monitoring!

This had a ton of issues. The worst being the whole wifi and Bluetooth handover, and loss of connection when you locked your phone.
It’s all fixed! GrillEyePRO works just as I would expect. No issues with disconnects when locking the phone or any other times.

Set-up and updating the unit was straight forward and easy. No major problems encountered like some other reviewers. A few quick Bluetooth drops, but nothing major.

Great experience so far! GrillEyePRO has some cool features, like timers per probe so you can time flips perfect. I particularly like the graph over time so I can examine what happened over the cooking period. I’d recommend this unit to anyone looking for a good smoker temp unit.

Love It! (Watch app has a bug)

I love Grill Eye Pro! It connects to phone via Bluetooth and WiFi so I can walk around house and not be concerned about loosing Bluetooth connection. I use 4 probes so I can monitor the temperature for each steak during grilling. I can leave my phone on the charger and monitor temperatures with my Apple Watch as I walk around! The only weird thing is that the Apple Watch app shows temperature in Fahrenheit but shows a “C” next to the temperature denoting Celsius. I just ignore the C because the temperature reading is obviously Fahrenheit. I have tried change the settings in GrillEyePRO to see if I can trigger GrillEyePRO to switch to show “F” but it always remains “C”.

I’m into bbq and grilling for a while and the last 2 years I’ve been using GrillEye pro pretty much every single time with no problems! For the meats and the grates temp.
Recently my device wouldn’t take a charge (or at least I wasn’t doing right) so I contacted customer support. They responded to my questions with the solution in LESS than 24h and now everything back to normal.
Excellent product, very reliable in a very reasonable price and excellent customer support! Highly recommend!

The GrillEye Pro is great.... The App - Not so much

The GrillEye Pro is fantastic - their app on the other hand needs major development.

1) Almost every time I have to use the combination I have to uninstall and reinstall GrillEyePRO . Not a huge deal except you lose all your presents for temps/settings and notification preferences

2) This morning GrillEyePRO keeps notifying me that I have a probe that is below temp, but my unit is not even on. Started at 6:00 am and goes just about every minute. I have uninstalled GrillEyePRO until I have heard this is fixed.

Great but won’t switch to WiFi when BT our of range

I love it so far compared to what I was using but I’m still not getting all the benefits - the biggest miss so far is it jot using WiFi and alerting me no matter where I’m at in the house.

I had to disable the device alert because if I lost Bluetooth connection it goes nuts. I know I setup WiFi but it doesn’t seem to switch. I have great WiFi so no excuse for bad connection - honestly I would rather being able to disable Bluetooth altogether.

Can get 4 or 5 stars when this is resolved.

Update: I contact support and afternoon a series of steps it was working properly. Thank you!

New updates are phenomenal

I’ve always loved GrillEyePRO , but with this new update with cloud monitoring it’s EVEN BETTER. I walked to the neighbor’s away from my WiFi signal and it still worked!! I noticed a temp change right away and headed back to the grill. Great app and product!!
