About Bridge Card Game Classic

Team up with a computerized partner and pit your Bridge skills against two clever AI opponents in this free version of the classic card game.

Bridge Card Game Classic app offers a weekly subscription (1 week) and a yearly subscription (1 year) called Premier.

This free version of Bridge supports both Rubber Bridge and Chicago Bridge.

Bridge is played by four players who form two partnerships.

In Rubber Bridge a rubber is played as the best of three games.

In Chicago Bridge you play four hands of Bridge.

A game is won by the first partnership to score 100 or more points in successful contracts.

Traditionally, the players are referred to by the points of the compass - North, East, South and West.

Three bidding systems currently: American Basic, SAYC and Basic ACOL.

The winner is the partnership that scores the most points in those hands.

Players within a partnership face each other across a table.

Payment for your subscription will be debited from your account after your purchase is confirmed.

If you subscribe in another currency, the price may vary slightly if your bank charges you a conversion fee.

The two partnerships are North/South and East/West.

Biding is horrible

I’m editing my original review after BridgeCardGameClassic developer contacted me and had updated BridgeCardGameClassic and fixed the bidding problems for the most part. BridgeCardGameClassic actually plays quite well now and is fun to play and much less frustrating. I’ve won fewer rubbers since the update but playing the hard level is more akin to real life with some average bridge players.

North doesn’t bid in any known bridge method. North routinely opens with fewer than 10 points in suits with no face cards. North will jump shift to a suit that it ends up having to small cards in and fewer than 10 points total. North discards face cards that would win the next lead from dummy to allow EW to make their bid. Even at the hard level it’s like playing with someone who has no knowledge of the game of bridge. North routinely takes you to a five bid in a major when it is unnecessary to make game and you end up one under. Frustrating to say the least.

Computerized game

I have played Bridge for about 15 years and the cards do not even come close to a natural mix of cards. I have been playing this game for several months and it has not changed the way cards are distributed. Also, my “partner” is playing something, but I have yet to figure out what it is because it sure isn’t any kind of Bridge that I know. He will bid 2 and 3 card suits sometimes with 8 -10 cards and if a player bids against him he will bid 3 or 4 in his suit with a partner who has passed through the entire bidding. He bids 4 or 5 with a 6 or 7 card suit and 8 points his partner {me} will raise one time with 9 to 10 points and he keeps bidding. He also bids against his partner after his partner has bid game. Maybe 3 NT Then he bids 4 spades. I realize most games are set for the computer to win, but tonight was the last straw for me. Oh, I almost forgot that East and West are computer hands and they routinely get 3-4 aces.

Mixed Reviews

Fun to play. The new version is better but still needs work. Even in the difficult mode the dummy is constantly overtrumping his partner when not necessary. And takes the trick even when the partner already has won it. While that makes it fun for me to always win, it doesn’t make for a challenging game.
Bidding is also confusing when I bid one of a suit, sometimes they go right to 7! And we go down of course.
The new version has also removed the view of last trick taken. I would like to see that come back again. Keep up the good work Bridge Game Classic!

Playing bridge during COVID 19

I played bridge 3 times a week at our senior citizen center. I loved the game and had nice folks with good skills to play with.

Suddenly we are confined in our homes. Being an 85 year old widow, I knew I needed to keep my mind active.

My daughter helped me find several free bridge apps on my iPhone. I played them, but quickly found I liked yours best.

If I didn’t like the game, I could delete it and start a new game. Playing the hand or not was up to me with no penalty.

Each hand I select, I do my best. I am a seasoned bridge player and I like the challenge of making the most of each hand regardless of the bidding.

Yours is the only bridge app I have and I play it most every day.
I want you to know that I have shared it with my bridge buddies and those who can download BridgeCardGameClassic love and the ones who can’t are envious of the versatility of your game.

Thanks again for sharing this with us old folks. Even if we get to ever go back to playing together, I will continue playing yours at home.

A few observations:
Although I’m a decent player, I shouldn’t win 97% of the time on the hard setting.
The computer as north bidding partner:
Sometimes opens one no trump with as few was 13 points;
Is passive to opening bids or responding bids;
If south opens and north overcalls, south better place the final game contract because north will pass leaving the contract seriously underbid;
Where south has two long suits north fails to fix contract with proper choice
Computer playing defense:
Tends to cash out aces and Kings, a poor defense in no-trump. I’ve had a vulnerable Qxx hand then the computer inexplicably shifts suits leaving me the control in a weak suit.
Computer as bidder:
Never seems to takes obvious king finesse;
In suit contracts;
computer plays trumps even after they’re all pulled, losing control of the contract unnecessarily;
Frequently under bids an obvious game contract

Computer on defense.
Fails to play 3td hand high, handing bidder cheap tricks
Nonetheless, I enjoyed the game to a point. I don’t know if these issues can be worked out but it would make a real challenge on my hard setting if they can

Needs some work - 2 more requests...

Two problems that prevent a good experience: the declarer is not allowed to play the dummy hand, and 1. cards arranged red on red, black on black are visually confusing. I'd pay to have these issues fixed!
Oops! Figured out how to play dummy hand. Half-way there!
2. Hand should be played by first to declare; not last to mention.
3. It's a great way to practice solo, so I would love a button that allows me to close and deal another hand without having to exit and start a new game. I don't want to sit through the opponents playing of 1 club! Thanks!

What a joke

As others have written, this is not programmed for the computer to win or even know how to bid. Always passed short of game and I never loose a rubber. Your partner constantly bids no trump, with uneven distribution and often less than opening count. If you know anything about bidding and playing bridge hands don’t waste your time with BridgeCardGameClassic. It is truly a joke. Will be tossing it after writing this review.
Since the developers claim they read every review to improve the bridge game, my question to them would be, have any of you ever played bridge? If yes, then you don’t know how to transfer bridge knowledge to your app. If no then I can understand why it isn’t even remotely close to bidding and playing real life bridge.
Perhaps the age 4+ should have been an indicator of the skill level of BridgeCardGameClassic.

Good card play, some poor bidding

After reading previous reviews, it looks like there was an update that improved North’s bidding. I think it still needs work. I have been playing bridge for about a year and feel that beginners should not play with BridgeCardGameClassic because it can teach wrong/bad habits. For example, North tends to jump bid or rebid indicating extra length when there is none. It would be nice if some explanations were given during play or bidding (e.g., this 1H opening bid indicates at least 5 hearts and at least 13 HCPs). It’s a basic game that provides great extra (and free!) practice but you’ll need some skill/knowledge to not adapt it’s mistakes.

Nice practice, have a suggestion if it is possible.

Since this is a practice game, I would like to see a function where you could replay the previous round immediately if you wish to see where you might be able to improve your results with the hand you just played. Otherwise, I like it very much and would give it 5⭐️s!

Good But Some Bidding Is Odd

I am not an expert bridge player, but I don’t understand some of the bots bids. For instance, bidding 4 No Trump is asking your partner for aces. But the bots use it as a bid that I have no idea how to reply to. When I reply based on convention, the bot leaves me there in what is not my choice. Another behavior is bidding 5 of a major suit. 9 out of 10 times it fails. What is the point? If these bids are a function of the bidding system I have chosen, please let me know which system should I change to. Regarding the interface, it works well. I

A new problem with the app

I’ve had this game for years, and while it is not perfect, I have found ways around its annoyances and enjoy playing for fun. (I disable BridgeCardGameClassic ’s input and do all the bidding and most of the playing myself.) Recently, the hands during bidding do not change, so NS and EW are all the same until it comes time to play. I deleted BridgeCardGameClassic then downloaded from the cloud again, but still the same problem. I don’t know what is causing this glitch, but I cannot play the game anymore.

Worst partner in history

While this is free and can be fun, the computer north partner is absurdly inadequate. Its only bids appear to be pass, 1 NT and 2 NT often when those are totally inappropriate bids. It will respond 1 NT to a 1 Heart bid while holding a six card suit with honors. It will never rebid a suit even with six or seven card strength. In short, the computer’s bids and response convey no meaningful information which is the entire point of the bidding process! This game desperately needs an update informed by someone with at least a basic understanding and some experience actually playing bridge. Sorry, but I can’t recommend it. Live the price though....

Could be a good app but...

I agree wholeheartedly with those who have elaborated on North’s bidding and play inadequacies, which for some reason don’t seem so obvious when East and West are bidding. It’s no fun to win almost every rubber when there’s no challenge and every auction ends at the 1/2 levels.

One other game error: When East is declarer, dummy is displayed prior to my lead. Opening leads should be blind.

I like the simple, clean layout of the screen. I use an iPhone 6, and many other bridge apps are too cluttered or use too small card icons for me.

Not bad

If you know how to play bridge it’s a good app. The game plays just how I would expect it to. It could use better explanation of how the game is actually played. The design could be a little nicer and the ai a little better but the important thing is that the game works as it should and it being a simple card game none of the rest of that really matters. I’d recommend if you’re into this card game.

The new update

I liked this game a lot up till the new update because it started gilitch after the update a few days ago. The gilitching has been happening a lot. One hand west plays down clubs I follow and east the dummy computer( the player with the hand revealed) clearly has clubs in his hand and plays doing hearts which is trump at the time. Another time one of the computers trump on a suit and then plays that suit down next. I was hoping that this can be fixed because I really do like the game but if it keeps on gilitch than I guess I have to find a new game.

Nice app, but could use some improvements

I am enjoying BridgeCardGameClassic very much. My suggestions:
1) I would like to see the hands exposed at the end so we can review the play.
2) Could we have a paid version without the ads, and includes the hands being exposed at the end? And could we replay the hand?
3) Please do something about the Black Jack ad. It is bad enough that it last 60 seconds: you can’t close it after you have viewed it. There is no little “x” in a corner to close it. I get it out of it by exiting the game, and then deleting the screen and then I go back into BridgeCardGameClassic . PLEASE AT LEAST FIX THIS!!

Although the bidding is a little strange at times, I would give this 5 stars if we could get rid of the ads, see all the hands at the end, AND be able to replay the hand.

Thanks!

Irrational North behaviors

Very challenging to play with BridgeCardGameClassic. North bidding and play demonstrate little normally expected behaviors. For example: opening bid with 3 card suit but 5 card suit in hand. Appears to bid convention to me but can’t respond to same convention. During play, North frequently leads trump when other team is playing hand but has no trump cards on board. Sometimes feels that North chooses lead based on random number generator excluding last trick suit.

Fun but needs more improvement

Approximately 70~80% sets are perfect. There are still lots of obvious errors in bidding and leading cards. For example, with a weak set of 3 or 4 without partner support, often bid for 4 or 5, and often overturn 3NT to 4S/4H with 4 not solid set without partner support.
When the last one holds A, it mostly will be 2-4-3 without thinking of pulling a 5 to cover it....
Good for practice, must have a strong heart for many unusual errors
Thanks

Needs a few fixes

While I’m not an expert bridge player, I see a few things that need fixing in BridgeCardGameClassic.

1. The red and black cards need to be separated by suit. For some reason the developer has lumped hearts and diamonds together and clubs and spades together. Makes it difficult to differentiate between the suits. I think most people set up the cards in their hands by alternating the black and red suits.

2. The person who wins the bid can’t play the dummy hand. That’s not realistic. And when the dummy hands plays itself, it plays cards in an order I would not. Often the dummy hand loses a trick when it should win one based on the card it plays.

I enjoy BridgeCardGameClassic , but would not give it a high rating because it’s not as realistic as it could be.

On the other hand, it’s free and some of the other bridge apps out there are pricey.

A few quirks

The marketing blurb somewhere touts that the game features “clever” AI opponents but they aren’t very good. I can see improvements made since older comments though. I was about to compliment developers on a relatively ad-free experience and very nice interface. but then I updated BridgeCardGameClassic and got lots of banner ads, most hands dealt to south are poor. Just like real life!

Why does East always know when I don’t have an Ace?

Seems like East/West always knows when I don’t have an Ace, even if it’s trump. I think the playing AI could be smarter. East/West almost never finesse and can therefore sometimes be down 1 or 2. Sometimes they get all Trump out early when on offense, and then I can run a suit. East/West doesn’t play no-Trump very well. They give up their stoppers too easily and then can get trounced if there’s an uneven card split. Sometimes you have to lose a few to hold off losing them all. Overall, a solid game now. Very glad to be to review bidding.

I wish there were options to rebid and replay hands...sometimes I make a mistake when bidding or playing and I wonder “what if”?

This app is horrible. It is geared for E/W to win and they overbid every single time. North NEVER follows the simple rules of bridge. Like: return your partner’s lead. North will take you to game with 2 in a suit. North will even open the bidding with 2 in a suit. I just played a hand with a 3NT BID—led and took 2 rounds of diamonds and North led back a spade with multiple diamonds in his hand. The bidding and play is rigged. This game is a POS and the creators clearly don’t know how to bid or play the game.
