Latest Update Is AWFUL

2022-06-19

Please bring back the old app layout! I LOVED how user friendly my this app was, and now I can’t look at the screen without being overloaded with information. If I wanted to go back to looking at a full-on log at all times, I would go back to jotting all my sugars and insulin in a notebook like I did 15 years ago. Please please please bring back the old layout.

I loved my this app, but this latest app update is making me reconsider entirely. It’s like it was designed by a non-diabetic, aka someone who doesn’t understand that our minds are literally always clogged with these numbers - InPen should help pair that down, not burden me with a mess of numbers on my screen.

Multiple replacements all defective pen caps!

2022-07-20

I’ve had 3 pens with issues with the pen caps either coming loose, breakage of the clip or completely falling off. I’ve almost lost a full cartridge of insulin on many occasions. I can’t carry my this app with me in my pocket. It’s not secure. I’ve been using this pen for years now and I love everything about it and InPen ! Except for the cap! It doesn’t stay on!!! Unacceptable. I’ve grown to be completely frustrated with your product. And unfortunately it’s enough of a safety and reliability issue that I can no longer proceed with using your product. Furthermore, when I called today for a replacement cap, your representative would t help me. I explained my issue and instead of listening to my concerns he was asking for irrelevant personal information like my weight and my middle name. Obscene. And quite frankly disgusting and offensive! What is going on with your organization?!? I simply want a pen with a secure cap and some respect when calling and speaking with one of your representatives. I’ve received neither one. Shame!

Hmm update? Why would you go backwards?

2022-08-21

Can’t put in accurate information and so not user friendly anymore! I’m just wonder if you can say update when it gets harder to use and becomes a more overwhelming home screen. Instead of a clear breakdown of information there is now an ity bity chart with too much going on that doesn’t clearly show the info. I used to be able to get the info in a glance but now I have to pull out a magnifying glass to see where a number may be on a tiny chart. And now the last BG is not clearly displayed at all on the home screen. I have to go hunting for it in your scroll at the bottom. Not to mention I should be able to put the correct dose in for my sons Basaglar, but your app won’t let me. I can’t understand why something so simple should be so hard. To go from user friendly home screen to this and not being able to put in accurate information almost makes it not worth it. The idea of this is brilliant and I was hoping to love it. I’m sad that InPen has gotten worse.

Has a dangerous glitch

2022-09-22

I love the idea of this pen and really appreciate the ability to dose half units. However, just over a week into using the pen I’ve noticed an issue that could be a huge health and safety risk. Several times after dosing my insulin, InPen has recorded a dose half to a full unit less than I’ve actually taken. I thought it was my own error in the past, but when it happened for the third time this morning I triple checked my dinner dose tonight.

It advised me to take 2.5 units. I primed a half unit and recorded it as a prime. Then I drew up 2.5 units, triple checked it, and paid attention when I delivered the dose to ensure I heard five clicks. Done.

When InPen recorded the dose immediately afterward, it read 1.5 units as the IOB. This is NOT acceptable because normally I would’ve taken another unit thinking I made a mistake. And I would’ve ended up with a sudden and terrible low. Please fix this glitch before it causes a serious emergency for someone!

Ok but needs major updating

2022-10-23

Great in theory but needs work to be practical for actual diabetics. (1) Can’t mark which insulin you use to properly get insulin on board (Fiasp vs novolog have very different profiles) (2) Dexcom data has lag so you still have to type it in. (3) Suggested bolus does not account for recent meals only recent bolus so it will give you a lower suggestion that is inaccurate a lot of the time because of IOB (when in reality that IOB is covering recent food).

Not Great As an Overall Diabetes Management App

2022-11-24

Most of the time insulin doses are automatically transferred to my phone. Sometimes it takes awhile though. When I allow it to read glucose data from Apple Health the it is almost always duplicated. When I allow it to read carb data and go to calculate my insulin dose the carb data is not there. Instead, I must enter my carbs myself to get my insulin dose; however, after doing so I now have duplicate carb entries. I have disabled and reenabled InPen from reading glucose and carb data many times to no avail. My logbook is a waste of junk with all the duplicate glucose and carbs. Please fix this immediately!

It’s helpful, but...

2022-12-25

I love my this app. I’m a former pumper and having the same type of technology in a pen/app so that I don’t stack doses has been great! I don’t love that InPen often misses my doses if it’s not right beside the pen. At least once or twice per day I have to manually put in my doses. I also really dislike that I can’t just tap carbs then go straight to input BG by tapping it. I have to put in carbs, tap outside the little blocks, then tap BG to input- that’s SUPER annoying.

Overall this is a great tool if you’re on MDI- it would be an amazing (and essential) tool if it worked properly all of the time.

Huge help in logging doses

2023-01-26

We’ve been using the product and app for about 6 months now. When we switched from a simple injector, I didn’t see the need. But it became clear the value pretty quickly.
Seeing the history of when an injection happens is huge when you have two parents and a school nurse that give injections. Watching the estimate of insulin on board is very helpful. Relying on InPen to do our calculations which take into account insulin on board is important.
Insulin pumps aren’t for everyone. Having the option of a smart injector is huge. Regular syringes have a larger gauge. Our daughter thinks nothing of getting injections with the this app.
And no site changes!
Features I’d like are integrations with CGMs, but the biggest would be a follower app. That way parents can see say when the nurse gives insulin to cover highs and exactly when they do.

Love InPEN!!!

2023-02-27

Great assistance with management of IOB and logging in amounts of insulin taken. Being able to inject a half unit is a huge benefit. My endocrinologist loves the data it provides. I love not having to write down all the info daily. It has definitely helped me to NOT STACK insulin doses which can definitely be problematic since I take multiple daily injections, as needed. It was very easy to begin using it. The Ap is easy to read and use. Lastly, the reminders for taking my twice daily basal insulin keeps me from missing doses (probably multiple times a week!!) it just takes the burden of having to remember that OFF MY BACK.

Doesn’t show current glucose level.

2023-03-28

So far, so good. I’ve been using the this app for a few days now and I like it. I cannot figure out how to get InPen to show my current glucose level, however. I have it all synched up with my Dexcom G6 app as well as with the Clarity app, but for current glucose I just get a “—-“ Sure, I can just click back and forth between Dexcom and this app, but, y’know, that’s a lot of work.
I love that I don’t have to remember how much insulin I’ve taken. I usually do, but this is a good just in case kind of thing.

Love my InPen but..

2023-04-29

I love my this app. I really like the dosage calculator to prevent insulin stacking and provide accurate measurements. I really like the new home screen layout and InPen is really good. Some improvements I’d like to see are mainly with the this app device itself. I’d really like to have a more positive feel from the dial and delivery button and maybe a more tactile feel to the pen. It has a very smooth feel and can tend to be a little on the slick side for me personally. Other than that, the pen and app are fantastic. Thank you for the continued development process.

Future features!

2023-05-30

I received my this app a few days ago, it works amazingly. But InPen could use some improvement with the logBook, the logBook should have an edit feature to remove saved recommendations from the calculated dose. Many times I’ve noticed myself entering a wrong carb amount and backing out and not being able to edit the log or delete it, this added feature would help a lot more in managing our daily intake of carbs and insulin.

suggestions

2023-07-01

app is great by itself, but a few things could make it even better
1: apple watch app to quick add carbs and BG, and to have a glance at active insulin, last dose, etc.

2: let multiple devices stay logged in at the same time. this would be good for people like parents or family members to view the doses and active insulin and such.

3: dexcom integration is good for the reports and graph, but improvement to automatically update quicker to input current BG would be really nice. it’s nice to see it how it it’s but eventually this feature would make InPen a whole lot better. with this, people could use InPen primarily and see everything the need in one place.

overall, InPen is very good but these would improve it drastically. Thanks!

Good but needs updates

2023-08-01

I like InPen but the following new features would make it much more useful
1) please integrate with Dexcom 6. This way I can avoid writing sugar levels for calculation and above all, the recommendations would be more accurate if you can tell weather sugar level is steady, on the way down or on the way up.
2) specifying the amount of carbs in order to receive recommendation is not accurate enough because the amount of protein a person plans to eat will effect how long sugar levels will stay in the system. For example, if I decide to eat 4 pieces of bread or add 1/2 pound of cheese on it should make a big difference in recommendation

I know that these are not easy features to add to InPen but please let me know if there is intent to upgrade these items in the future and the eta.

Thanks

Great product and app but needs some tweaks

2023-09-02

Great pen and app but could use some tweaks/bug fixes.

First the bolus wizard. After typing in your bg you can not just tap the carbs selection, you have to touch outside in a random place to minimize the keyboard then tap the carbs window.

The bolus wizard could use a exercise and sickness adjustment. Being able to reduce or increase your dose by a percentage would be awesome.

Lastly, please do away or reconfigure the annoying pop up window when you try to input your bg within 2 hours of the last bolus.

Oh, also maybe this app 2.0 make the device have a lock or something on the unit dialer because it turns too easily. Today I pulled it out of my pocket and it had about 3 units dialed up😬

5 Star Pen!

2023-10-04

What a great device! I’ve been an insulin pen user for a couple of decades and this is the first real advance in insulin pen “technology” - it works via Bluetooth with InPen so it automatically keeps track of what time and how much insulin was injected which helps to guard against stacking by calculating and alerting you to how much insulin remains “on board”. Additionally it helps with carb counting and generating reports for your doctor. I’m so glad that someone invented this !

Love it!

2023-11-04

I really like the this app. I used to forget when and how much I had injected but now the pen keeps track. The IOB is also a great feature. I always check that before each dose. I also like the reminder for the long acting. Overall it's great. My only slight issue is the 3 hour lag for my BGs to be recorded from Apple Health via my Dexcom CGM. I do understand that is not this app's fault but it would be really nice if an agreement could be reached!

I had no idea how much I didn’t know

2023-12-06

I’ve been a T1D for 18 years and this has been a game changer. I’ve never wanted to try a pump. My CGM is annoying enough! And the cost of a pump and CGM is crazy.

My A1C was always good but I was on a constant roller coaster with my blood sugars.
With this app, I’m amazed at what I didn’t know! Active Insulin in my body? Different sensitivity levels at different times of the day? I have 99% of the tools of a pump built in a pen?!?

In short my CGM reading is so much smoother of a line and my time in range has increased 20% up to high 80% consistently. And my daily stress of dealing with my diabetes has gone down drastically.

If you take shots or you’re on a pump and it’s getting too pricey, I wouldn’t hesitate to give this a shot. You won’t regret it.

Great Product, Great service

2024-01-06

This is a wonderful tool! The this app and InPen allow me to manage my diabetes with more ease than before.

I never forget when and how much insulin I’ve taken and the dose calculator takes the guess work out of my diabetes management. I can’t wait to share my data with my doctor. He’ll be thrilled to get a clean report rather than an oral report from my memory.

I did need help signing into InPen for the first time, but I called the tech support line and the nice young lady who answered the phone walked me through the process. She was very personable and understood the challenges I have been having with managing my diabetes. Kudos to the company for hiring people who care and can relate to patients.

I’m happy with my decision to get the this app. I was skeptical but now, I realize that was foolish.

InPen is InCredible.

2024-02-07

I started using the this app and App last week. It is FANTASTIC!! Once I entered my therapy data, I started seeing information that I never saw before. InPen is only going to get better, too. Good diabetes control requires knowing a lot of info. InPen includes an online log book so I’ll know if I have myself a shot. I can also enter my blood sugar level whenever I want. The shots are AUTOMATICALLY entered and show in the home screen. It’s good now, and it’s going to get better. InPen Store will have to add another star because the this app App is already a 5. I’ve had Type 1 diabetes since 1984!!
