Japanese needs work

2022-05-21

If you’re coming into JapaneseLearning looking to learn Japanese for the first time, I can tell you there are some serious problems with the way they’re presenting the info. For one thing, the foreign words are written in hiragana when they should be written in katakana (e.g. “salad” should be written as サラダ but they’ve written it as さらだ which is not correct). Changing the writing style to “Kana & Kanji” didn’t seem to correct this. Why teach katakana if you’re not going to use it for the words in the rest of JapaneseLearning ? A bigger problem is that they don’t include the accented versions of the characters when you’re learning the alphabet. For example, you learn that は means “ha” but you’ll never learn that ば and ぱ mean “ba” and “pa” and these accented characters are a SIGNIFICANT part of the language, which you’ll plainly see if you look at the rest of the vocabulary in JapaneseLearning . It doesn’t make any sense that they’d completely omit them up front and expect you to know them later on. The presentation is slick and fun to use so they deserve a lot of credit for that but for they price you’re paying you’d expect something a lot more complete.

Good vocab but...

2022-06-22

There are sections where the broken up pieces of the word are in romanized lettering. This isn’t as helpful as ordering the hiragana/katakana together because that’s what a learner will generally be seeing once s/he has weaned off the training wheels of romanization. Not to mention sometimes when the words are broken up they’re not even broken up by the syllables academics would use to romanize each syllable of kana. It’s a great starting place for vocabulary but this would assist JapaneseLearning in growing stronger. (As far as I know, this is only from one play-through. If this changes further on into the learning levels, please disregard my suggestion.)

Did it's job slightly poorly

2022-07-23

I decided to come back to using Drops so I can learn new words. I set it back up & find that my progress has been reset. Then again, I suppose some review won't hurt. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there is now a type of question where you draw a character from the hiragana/katakana/kanji(?) letters. The only problem I have with this new type of question is that it's a bit finicky. Most of the 5 minutes that I had to learn these characters/words have been wasted by JapaneseLearning thinking I did poorly in the writing questions. There was also some lag (not frame rate issues), but I guess I can blame Apple for that.

UI/visual design

2022-08-24

Wow, I love it when they get good designers mixed in with apps that help you learn although there’s some minor issues after using it for the last 20 mins. There are a lot of redundancies that I don’t think help you remember the meaning or spelling of a word, but I could look past that because the visual design, sound, and iconography are very nice. Also the most impressive part is the UI which has multiple, yet familiar interactions such as one that mimics a swiping password login to swiping left it right for a potential booty call on Tinder, all the actions are very natural.

Overall pretty and engaging, time pay wall

2022-09-25

The title says it all. It’s a very engaging app in my opinion but there’s a paywall for more time. You can use it for 5 minutes every 10 hours which I mean is something, but it’s not ideal if you want to learn a lot of vocabulary. They rely a lot of furigana instead of the actual katakana or hiragana so I’m not super sure whether or not it’ll help for reading menus or signs, mostly more for picking out vocabulary in spoken sentences. Still, very fun to use

Wow. This app is amazing

2022-10-26

Wow. This is awesome I just had first tried it days ago and I got to say it’s good. It will not let you forget words like I always had for mushroom in Japanese but it had keep had reminded me over and over. But only 2 problems with JapaneseLearning. 1. You need to more words like 6,000 but why 1,700. That’s is not enough. The only reason why I have said that because JapaneseLearning will be helpful remembering because remembering was very difficult for me but I am on my 1st level here. I would like JapaneseLearning to have more words built in to it. 6000 will be enough and learn kanji too.
My next question here. Will JapaneseLearning will be shut down, selling it, takes if down of the store for any reason or if Drops has a website too will it ever go down too? I’m worried. When I had see something I really like then I get worried like what if it goes down.
That’s my review. Yep. But please add more words like 6000 and learn kanji

Never thought I’d be the one to say this...

2022-11-27

I am having a super fun time learning Japanese with Drops. Using simple pictures and games, I’ve already learned to speak 17 words and I find myself looking forward to the next session. Another feature of JapaneseLearning that is sort of built into the learning style is that it provides the next word to learn rather than just picking words from a list and mimicking them. Very good, fun app!

A fun way to learn!

2022-12-28

It’s so different from any other language app I’ve used, and it’s so memorable and engaging. I can’t wait to practice more with this method! It starts off in a way that almost anyone can truly remember, use and build confidence with, and it’s something fun to look forward to doing everyday. A perfect 5 stars from me! I love it!

In Love

2023-01-29

Love Love Love Love JapaneseLearning. I had to put it off for a while because of school and work taking up all of my time but with the tiny intervals of game time it’s pretty easy to fit in some learning every once in a while. With the Japanese version I am SO glad they added the learning how to write the characters while you learn them. Would recommend JapaneseLearning a thousand times over

Awesome!

2023-03-02

Really great app! It’s awesome! It shows a picture, shows how it written in the language you are learning, and how you would pronounce it, and you can choose for it to also show the word in your language. Overall great app, highly recommend for learning a new language. Oh, also, they offer lessons for beginners, intermediate, and expert.

Best flash cards

2023-03-31

I love JapaneseLearning, with it I been able to master hiragana and katakana with about a week, I wish thought that it was a little bit more challenging, when it comes to cards, it will show you one correct answer and the other there are so far off you know it’s not them. But worth the money for sure. Buy if you want to increase vocabulary.

Amazing!

2023-05-02

I’ve just started today and already learned a bunch of new words! I highly recommend JapaneseLearning if you really badly wanna learn Japanese like me! JapaneseLearning may be best for all ages! Maybe not for people who have problems with remembering stuff,But besides that, JapaneseLearning is highly recommended! Thank you for all your hard work you put into JapaneseLearning! ^^

Icons

2023-06-02

JapaneseLearning is amazing! It’s helped me so much. It’s more helpful than duolingo and kaizen. The only thing I’d change is the icons for certain words. On “onegaishimasu” it really doesn’t make sense to me. It’s a little confusing. So is “mizuokudasai” it looks more like a soap bottle than a water bottle . But that’s it, other than that it’s great and I’d rate it 10 stars if I could.

Incredibly easy and convenient

2023-07-04

I’ve had JapaneseLearning for a bit, and I don’t have the premium, but I do get the free 5 minutes a day, and even with just the 5 minutes I’ve learned plenty of Japanese foods and writing, but this does take lots of time and practice, learning a new language isn’t easy! Anyways, great job drops team, you make learning Japanese easier than I thought🧡

Great app, honestly.

2023-08-04

I love JapaneseLearning I honestly love how you can learn how to draw the charaters! Plus I don't have to deal with the anoying you must upgrade to premium! box without it i can freely learn the language with 100% power and nothing can stop me! But I do wish I could get 10 minutes insted of 5 I feel like with this amazing app I feel like I want to do more and more but then the 5 minutes are up and I have to wait till the next day. I hope with JapaneseLearning I can learn my dream langague!!

OMG I LOVE THIS APP!!!

2023-09-05

JapaneseLearning is the best!!!! Not only is it really fun to play, It really is a great way to learn languages. It’s free and easy to play, and you can select exclusively what you want to learn! JapaneseLearning has to make money too, so you can buy a subscription for premium stuff. But everything is unlock able....as long as you work hard and dedicated to learning the language you want to learn. I think it’s a really good, ad free, fun, easy, language-learning game!!! (Also for people who hate monthly/yearly fees like me, just get the lifetime subscription!!!)

Best app for learning Japanese!!

2023-10-07

So I only recently got JapaneseLearning but I’ve had a wonderful experience with it! I have learned so many new words and they actually stick! JapaneseLearning makes it easy to remember the words and it’s a great practicing app. I do recommend getting the subscription though because for me, 5 minutes per day isn’t enough and with the subscription more is available. Overall, a great app for learning Japanese words, the syllabaries (the kana), and kanji characters. 10/10 would recommend

Awesome 🥰

2023-11-07

It helps when you hear it enunciated properly, see a picture and spell it. It turns into a game to practice what you learned using muscle memory. I love that because you can associate the emotional connection of winning and getting it right or losing and making you want to do better. That way, you don’t make that mistake again. Either way, you learn. This is a beautiful but difficult language that won’t be learned over night but JapaneseLearning teaches little by little so you are not overwhelmed. It’s great.

Awesome app!!!

2023-12-09

First off the layout is flawless and easy to use, I love everything about JapaneseLearning. I have tried many language apps and none of them are amazing as this one! I like how it teaches different categories that you’ll actually use in an actual conversation!! I also love that JapaneseLearning uses native speakers for the pronunciation, it makes learning the target language much easier. All and all I haven't really found anything bad about JapaneseLearning , except that we have to pay a couple of bucks, which I wouldn't mind doing because of how great JapaneseLearning is overall.

Excellent way to learn new stuff!

2024-01-09

JapaneseLearning is way cool and exceeds expectations a lot! The bite sized lessons are a fantastic approach, as they happen once every 10 hours you can actually see if you remember stuff or not. The visuals and graphics are soothing to the eyes and fantastic. This might be called nitpicking but the only thing that threw me off is the narration (or Text to Speech, you may say) sounds a bit strange, but other than that, hats off to the Developing team!

Fantastic!

Drops is an amazing app, and it’s organized really well and the graphics are clean. it’s extremely helpful with learning vocabulary, and the five minute lessons are a great way to learn. I have the drops app for japanese and actually makes the learning process enjoyable. If the five minute lessons aren’t your style, you can get a yearly subscription for only about 5 dollars a month.
