Recently, the developers decided to run a blackmail tactic on their customers using their accounts as ransom and demanding the customer pay x amount in the gold store to get their accounts back. The highest I’ve seen proof of so far is at a total of $58,000 in packs of gold. FFS! Currently, there are THOUSANDS of people in the game on restriction not able to play. This is terribly bad business on JOYCITY’s part by using ransom threats instead of laying out new specifically-detailed policies and fixing their issues that would prevent such returns in the future. Yeah some people exploited a little glitch in your system, but you should take responsibility in allowing that loophole of a glitch to even be there, then go from there. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on in-game purchases that were never refunded, but those don’t count for anything huh? Someone possibly hacked my Google account connected to my ToW account and I am the one to pay for that? WHEN IVE ALREADY PAID REAL CASH IN-GAME? Well, those will also be refunded shortly and I’ll be done with this game for good along with the even higher-paying players I’ve been in contact with. Hope you enjoyed your high while you were high, because rock bottom is approaching quickly JOYCITY. 👋🏼

I've waited to review this game hoping they would fix it. No such luck. The game is ok and fun for the first few levels but if you aren't planning on spending money every month it gets ugly around level 15. Things they haven't fixed are pretty important. If you play every day you should be able to get roughly 3000 gold but it never happens. I'll have 500 gold and try to collect a daily reward of 2000 and I only get a few hundred. Seems my cap is around 1300 gold and it never goes over that, no matter the daily bonus. At around level 12 you will discover griefing is a problem. Even if you play for hours every day you can only get two 8 hour protections and during the 8 hours without it you lose everything and start over. All resources and your crew can be taken numerous times in a row, leaving you with nothing. To get your ships repaired and crewed costs money or you can just sit there collecting from your farms waiting, but that means you don't get your two protection awards because you can't do anything. That means you now can be attacked all the time. Makes it impossible to play without spending real money. So play if you want to spend real cash for a game with lots of problems.

Anybody that’s played this game and says it’s not pay to play has lost their mind! To advance in this game will cost you a fortune. The resources required to build your up your territory
(leveling up ships, fortress and building upgrades) can only be gotten by paying for them. You can’t plunder your way to them or wait and collect your daily bonuses, you have to pay for them. It could easily cost you thousands of dollars to just get to level 30 and that wasn’t good enough for these developers, they added special levels in order to keep the pipeline open. In a previous life you would’ve found these guys on a street corner selling crack. No doubt they struck app game gold but save yourself the aggravation, time and money and look elsewhere. I’m writing this because I can’t log into the game after the most recent update and I expect to find all my resources have been plundered, ships burning and pirates in the healing hut. The cost to recover will cost millions in resources (which just got plundered) so I’ll have to purchase another package to continue playing, you get the idea. Do yourself a favor and go for walk, it’s free and it’s good for you.

This game is addictive and fun, however it is also very unfair. It is very disappointing when you have spent time and money collecting recourses to level up only to be plundered 10 times over by the same person, and in order to play other parts of the game you need to level up! There should be a cap on how many times in a row someone can just come and take everything you have especially if they are a higher level then you, be left with no resources to re-build, and no pirates left on the ships. If you do not have a constant peace shield on, which costs money, than forget it you will never advance without spending a ton of REAL money and to much time. UPDATE! I am going to add to this review as it has been a while since I submitted the first one. Nothing has changed nor has it been improved upon. Upper level territories are still allowed to plunder and take everything you have spent time achieving as well as wasting any money you have contributed to this game. I am sad to say that I am now finished with it and will try and find something a little cheaper and less frustrating. Bottom line, don’t waste your money or time!

Its fun when you are in a good active Alliance in a non dead server... but it gets pretty boring if you don’t spend money, and if you work a job non stop it’s hard to keep maintaining your peace shield, they only have 8hr, 24hr, 3 days, and a 7 day shield, and most of the time you have to spend gold to get the peace shields that are longer than 8 hours. You have to use gold for so much stuff on this game and it’s hard getting resources and keeping gold if you don’t spend money on this game. Most of the players that do succeed are big money spenders.....about every event this game does requires money if you want to actually do the event and have fun. It’s boring and nothing to do on this game anymore. I quit the game because everyone else was too big for me and grew fast because they were big money spenders. This game is only for rich gamers gm that have time to play and talk. This game hardly has any Pirates of the Caribbean stuff in it like I first expected....this game is not what I expected when I got it. I do not recommend playing.

This used to be a wonderful game, but they got greedy. They cut important things then made those items available to purchase from packs. I’ve played for 4 months, and I only a 1 fleet of the first good ships (mammoths), and people who have unlimited funds have to a full fleet of the strongest ships (Griffins). Just 1 Griffin can wipe out all 9 of my ships with ease. Only wealthy players are able to stay competitive, while the middle class and the poor grind away hoping to get lucky with their gambling packs, so they could possibly compete as well. Unless you have unlimited funds, and plan to drop $5,000 or more on this game, you will never be able to compete, no matter how much time you put into the game. It is impossible, without deep pockets. The worse part is, the people with deep pockets bully the rest of the server, and there is nothing you can do.
Most servers are dead, except for big spenders. So unless you have deep pockets, and like to bully other people, I would not recommend this game.
Also, the chat has some of the worse language I have ever seen in a game! Disney would pull their name off this game if they knew how horrible it was. Threats of violence, bullying, sexual content; everything Disney is against. Just stay away from this game.

Hello, I understand that many people just got booted from their games and are unable to log back into it. I have been playing this game daily and never experienced this issue. My account was managed by game center but now I can’t access it. My character was Captain Starpoison and I was at level 12 for the fortress. Also in alliance FIR. I do not remember what account was used to log in. This is quite frustrating to deal with since I just got the Flying Dutchman. I would love to get my account back to normal or I am uninstalling this game and no longer will download it. Please help me get my account back.

This game has been fun to enjoy at least and it seems to make me happy. I don’t understand the point of having a game center account when you can’t even log in to it. The updates are weird and I don’t understand why I got booted out of my iPad account. I never hit log out or delete account in PiratesoftheCaribbean setting. I only left PiratesoftheCaribbean to go do other things and come back to it. Finally turned off notifications to not try to go back into the game and not being able to access my game. Spent a lot of time on here but oh well

This is genuinely a good game, however Joycity, the developers, make it worse with every update. It used to be filled with people, but Joycity has made it so bad that long-time players are leaving the game every day. It is no longer fun because the servers are empty, and Joycity will not merge servers. There is nobody to fight with anymore. And if you try and farm your own bases, you can get banned.

Another issue: Joycity treats customers horribly. DO NOT SPEND ON THIS GAME. You will NEVER see a refund if you ask for one. And if you try and change the email your base is registered with, Joycity won’t allow that either. So many players are leaving and trying to sell their bases, that Joycity will ban you if you try and sell your base to somebody. The words “selling” and “buying” are automatically censored in the game chats. Joycity is a horrible company, they treat their customers like crap, and they are letting and in some cases making the game get worse every day. Don’t play this game. It’s dead.

I received an email telling me to contact the support team about my issue. I have already done this twice and was told they could not duplicate the error so it must be on my end.... Wrong answer. Simply doing a quick scan of the reviews on PiratesoftheCaribbean Store shows multiple people have had this issue and always after a server maintenance or update. If it doesn’t happen any other time, then it must be due to the update, whether they can duplicate it or not. Therefore, not on my end, it’s on their end. - Bad customer service!

I absolutely love this game. I play every day and have spent quite a bit of money to support it. I’ve had exactly 1 issue I contacted customer support over that happened after a server maintenance where I was unable to log into my account. As a result I was attacked by other players and lost much of the resources I spent money to get. Customer service told me it was my fault so they wouldn’t compensate me for my losses. 5 star game. 1 star customer service.

Been playing for a while now. I enjoy the game but it doesn’t pull me in as much as it used to. I’ve made several smaller purchases just to get more enjoyment from the game and to advance myself and have done fairly well at level 27. I was in a server with only 1 or 2 bully alliances but since merging servers there are several bully alliances. I’ve tried to switch servers but game doesn’t explain much about it so I tried. Selected server list and could not switch because I was in an alliance... so I left my alliance... selected server list again and could not switch because my level was over lvl 7 ?!*&#? Anyone playing for more than a week is over level 7.
Anyway I lost my rank and contribution percentage from leaving alliance, not a big deal but was disappointing. This is a pay to win game and after playing this type of game I’ve learned that I don’t care for the game much anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I still like playing but the longer shields cost gold and when my gold runs out I’m done. I’m not spending any more money on the game.

Great games, very time consuming. If you have a job were you might spend a lot of time idle, this is a great game to pass that time. I give it 3 out of 5 because a feature that was recently moved. The feature allowed you to change servers after level 7. You can already change servers before you reach level 7. This was useful if you had friends that played and you recently found out you could all be in the same allowance on the same server. This feature was removed this past week. Now I have three friends all with high level accounts stuck on three different servers with no way for us all to play together. Almost feel like a complete waste of time to even continue. To add to this issue they are doing server mergers. When it was time for your serve to merge you were given the option to change servers for free so a lot of people were just holding out until that time so the move would cost them in game gold, which can be earned or bought. Then they removed the feature all together and now a lot of people are just stuck.

This is a fun addictive game I have been playing for many months. Being part of an active alliance is critical, it’s also the most fun. They’d where you can do the extra tasks to earn in game rewards you will need. If you want to really make progress it needs to be a very strong alliance or at least have one or two of the strongest players on your server in it. If you are not in such an alliance, the big ones will always pounce on you any time you are not very careful. Some of the players seem to be spending loads on money to grow accounts so strong that no one can stand up to them, even so strong an entire alliance can’t stand up to them. That’s the worst part by far. You need to be prepared to spend many hours a day in the game to make any real progress.
The other major problem with the game is that they release app updates frequently and many times the updates are riddled with bugs. Numerous times I have been unable to connect to my account after installing an update. Most of the time the problem is on the iOS platform and/or connecting to my linked account on Facebook. These bugs often last for at least several days and they give little or no compensation for your resulting inconvenience and in game losses .

I love this game but I have three issues. One is that whenever there is an update, the update doesn’t show up right away on my Apple products. I have an iPhone 6S Plus and an iPad Pro. This hurts me as a player since I cannot get into the game to put up shields, heal, Pirates, do quests, etc..

Update: Support responded and posted on their site how to fix it!

The second issue is that if, for some reason, I have to delete PiratesoftheCaribbean , it makes you create a new profile instead of going to the login/signup screen. I now have several different profiles I manage because of that.

Update: Still don’t think it’s fixed.

The last thing is there should be some form of penalty for attacking lower level territories. Too many of us are F2P and can’t hold up against the P2P players. But I will say I have not spent a dime on this game and have still held my own.

Update: Still hard, but, if you’re determined, it can be done. I am ranking up and slowly growing my alliance and still have not spent a dime. But it takes strategy. Tip: Befriend more powerful alliances. Some will protect you and give you tips if you are nice to them and help them out.

These things being said, I do enjoy this game immensely and spend far too much time playing than I probably should.

I have played this for a few months, and it is a fun game with a progression that does not require purchases. Of course, not buying packages slows down that progress, but it can be successfully navigated as a free game if you have some patience. Graphics are good, and there are enough options and variations to keep game play interesting.

This game does crash too often though. It often crashes on start up or simply won't load. My latest issue is a complete loss of all data, leaving me with a game that wants me to start over again from day one. So, months of play have been completely lost.

It is a good game but, since I'm not about to start this game all over again, it's time for me to just say goodbye.

I actually only came to this game from an ad off of another game. It said I would earn coins in my other game if I got my captain to level 5 in this game. So I did... and now I’m still playing it. I got into an alliance quick and that definitely helps with build times. I also love the fact that the devs don’t bombard you with trying to force you to put money in the game. I was actually surprised by this because it definitely seems like the type of game that’s pay to win. But definitely a good job. One thing though still is wait times. You can get tons of ways to reduce wait times such as help from your alliance, clocks or many types, and maybe some other way that I don’t know if yet but even still I’d wanna play more of the game instead of waiting hours to get back on after leveling something.

The game is nice and fun at first but literally gets the point where unless you spend money you cannot continue. The upgrades start at basic prices then they go into double and triple digit millions and some even have stages!!! Like seriously?? They put these obstacles in place to drain you of resources that you clearly cant farm. To farm you need tickets that literally have less then a 5% drop rate!!! The game promotes alot of gambling filled with false promises. I bet nobody in the games history has even won those max rewards they claim to give. The more you spend the less they care about you. Every-time you gamble you will always get the minimum prize. Rarely ever do you get a high prize and the accumulated amount that you spend before getting lucky is way over worth. Some higher games get lost from being unable to heal or upgrade from such a high requirement. Ship boxes and gems ALWAYS give minimum. You will always feel robbed spending here. Plus the developers expect you to put so much time you will literally be all day on the phone just to get better then most players. Do yourself a favor and take you time and money to another game that will actually appreciate you and listen when you have a concern or problem.

Been playing this for awhile and love it. Now after The last server maintenance PiratesoftheCaribbean crashes on startup. It ask me to confirm data download app get to around 64% and then crashes. I tried to delete and reinstall same thing crashes. iPhone 6 plus with latest iOS.

Update: they are incredibly fast at fixing the problems. Just took a few hours. They even gave in game gifts for the problems. This is one of the best games I have played on my iPhone and is currently my favorite.

Update: 4/3 for the past 2 weeks there has been an ad that does not work to earn gold. It starts with a trolley car spinning and that’s all it does. The ad never plays nothing every loads. I have left it going for 3 min. to see if it would load nothing. You get the progress bar at the bottom like it is going to play an ad and there is a little red lantern that appears in the lower left corner by the play/pause button.
It is a really big pain because there is no way to exit except to quit the game and reload. I try to view other ads but that same one usually comes up.

Update: 4/10 it took a couple of days to get the ad thing fixed but I have not had the problem for the past 4 days. Again excellent support in fixing problems.

I love playing this game. I really do. But there problem I keep having is players constantly attacking you over and over when you don’t have your peace shield on. Every time I come back to this game, I have experience the same problem that made me leave the game. It takes a long to get resources and build up your base. You would have to put peace shields every time. It’s annoying because many times I forget. And when I do, I end up getting attack and have loads of messages of me getting attack 50 times in the info box. I wish you attack someone 1 time like Clash Of Clans. I wouldn’t mind losing little resources, BUT LOSING ALMOST ALL THAT I BUILD UP!!!!!! I can’t do it. Its fun at first but then its gets harder. I will come back to this game later on, and face the same experience that made me leave it in the first place.

This game is super fun. I non-stop playing every single day, so keep up the great work! Plus I have suggestions too. The first suggestion that I had in mind is after when captain attacked the other captain’s territory successfully, the territory will have a cool down for 5 hours so the captain that failed to defend his/her territory will have time to fix the gate, the ships and heal the injured Pirates in the Healing Hut, so the captain that successfully attacked have to wait for 5 hours or attack other captains. The second suggestion is when you click on your alliance member’s territory, there’s this button that says “Visit Territory”, so you can visit your alliance members territory. The third suggestion is when you click a captain, there’s this button that say “Send Friend Request”, so you can be friends with other captains.

• I originally went into this game thinking... a game where I build a base... not my style, but I love pirates of the Caribbean and the story so I downloaded it

• omg the story is just like the movie
• I haven’t spent anything yet, though I wouldn’t mind, since I am loving it
• the in game purchases seem to be to make your base a higher level quicker
• I never found my self good at games where you build a base since my resource management isn’t the best
• this game feels complicated enough to get a massive advantage against other players if you remember everything you do in the tutorial, I definitely recommend TAKING NOTES
• there is such a massive amount of stuff to do to upgrade your base, the upgrades are creative
• if you feel like you are getting attacked a lot, which did happen to me for a bit, you can move your base for relatively cheep, just look around the map and search for a nice quiet spot with few players
• to summarize, I love this game, if you are struggling, very understandable, it is complex, try you tubing stuff, looking around the map and finding a good spot to move to, also find a cool clan to team up with, a cool clan could be the difference between gg and bg
