Not worth it

I recently sold two very new and recent volumes to this app. I received an email today saying that one of my textbooks had water damage. They sent pictures as proof. The damage must have occurred during transit because I inspected the books prior to sending them. (I recommend taking your own pictures to avoid this happening.) They offer to send the textbook back (for $8.00 in shopping costs). So my options are: receive $5.00 for my $50 textbook, or pay them $8.00 to get it back. Either way, I was pretty disappointed that books in such perfect condition could lose so much value in just a semesters worth of time. I didn’t see any other sites with better options, so I decided to sell the books even though I am only getting a very small percentage back. I’m curious to know how much these textbooks will get resold for. I can understand that companies need a profit margin, but unfortunately this just isn’t worth it. I was better off trying to sell them on Facebook Market Place or on the college platform to incoming students. Needless to say that I will not be using this platform again, nor recommending it to my students.

Scammers and horrible customer service

I sent over 10 books. Two were relabeled as poor condition and the rest relabeled with poor condition with no picture proof or reason. These books were in great and amazing condition. I contacted them to resolve my issue and inquiry into their new rating of my books to poor condition and they never reached back. I contacted them a second time and waited the 3-4 days and received no support. They sent me the check for my books without contacting me back. I would never use any book selling service as places like these are complete and utter scams. They have full control on their end to label books whatever condition they want them to be and scam you with a lower offer. These places are for profit companies. Do not believe they care about the environment or planting trees. It’s just an excuse to save face as a for profit scam company. Any company claiming sustainably and for the environment while scamming you has no care for anyone but themselves and money. Another greedy company for themselves not for the people or education.

Scam

Hi All,

Just wanted to reiterate what the reviews here say and inform you that this is a scam. I just sent in two books, and was just sent an email (a week after they were received) that the larger textbook had “heavy damage” and was therefore being quoted at a third of the original agreed-upon price. Went in to see if I could decline, and shipping costs over $8. The images are so ridiculous that I laughed when opening them (no heavy damage to speak of, just a slight curl in the bottom right corner of a few pages in the book which likely occurred during transit). Didn’t really have a choice because of shipping cost, but I will never be using this service again. It’s clear that they operate with the intent to lowball you as soon as they receive the books via a false “damages” loophole (incidentally, there’s no option to message or speak with someone about these supposed damage claims). Disappointed and kind of sickened. Facebook marketplace will be my go-to in the future.

frustrating process

BooksRun worked well the first time I scanned books into it minus after an extended period of having it open and scan, it would glitch out. But I could close BooksRun and reopen and would scan normal. I go to scan them again and add them to cart to ship out and it now tells me that they won’t purchase them. Which is fine I understand what they will take changes from time to time. But what set me off was one would scan on my phone, yet wouldn’t on another phone and vice versa.
I had a cookbook that would not scan for me, but I had someone else who had BooksRun scan, and would show up for them. It’s very annoying when it did something like this. And when If I scanned without adding to cart then tried to scan again and add to cart it would tell me they weren’t buying that book. I would not recommend BooksRun at ALL as it’s just a waste of time and frustrating.

Scam

I tried to sell two books to this company and the estimated about $46 dollars. When I sent in my books they told me one of them was considered “counterfeit,” which I know it is not, so they couldn’t give me anything for it but if I wanted the book back would have to pay them for it...not sure how that is right at all. I have tried to contact them at least five times and have not heard back at all. They tell you you have 72 hours to make a decision on your books but when you contact them about a problem they won’t respond in order for you to meet that deadline. Furthermore, the only way to contact them is to write a message on their site, they don’t have a phone number to call. I would really like to speak to someone, but apparently they don’t talk to customers. I guess not contacting you is their way of sneakily stealing your books. They will steal your books and then not communicate with you at all. DO NOT trust this company!!

Very upset with quality of service

I was quoted $26 for a book in good condition other than minimal writing on a few pages, nothing bad, just some annotations for school. They then valued the book at $6. They gave me the option to have the book sent back, but they would make me pay for shipping, $8 which is more than they even valued the book at. Another company valued the book at around the same price, but the return shipping wouldn’t have made it worth it. I should not have to pay for my own item to be returned back to me after they lower the value of the book arbitrarily by 75%.
They are very unprofessional, as I tracked my package on their website and they gave me false tracking information. I sent an email to their support team inquiring about the status of the package, but was never responded to. I wish I could give it zero stars.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Taking advantage of college students.

I’ve not used this app to sell my textbooks however I never will because they proved to me that the only priority they have is making money off of college students. I previously rented a textbook from them for $15 and they never gave me a warning of when the book was due, they just charged my account to extend the rental another two weeks. Never gave a warning. Every other rental company I’ve ever used gives a warning of when it’s time to return the books. Then, again without warning, they charged me an additional $34 to purchase the textbook since I had not returned it even though once again, they never gave me any warning of any sort. I advise anyone thinking about using this company to change their mind and use Chegg or another company that is not so desperate and scammy. I also want to add that I have emailed them multiple times with no response and have sat on customer service multiple times for over and hour to try and get someone to help me and no response. Terrible customer service, terrible company. Do not support a company like this.

Your books are theirs once you send them.

After I sent my books to them, they emailed me that a technical book I sent worth $23 may be “counterfeit” and that they will instead give me $0 for it and won’t be able to return it to me. This was a valuable software book I used many times, I have the receipt from the publisher still in my email. Counterfeit… right. Sounds to me more like an easy way for this app to make an extra dollar.

BooksRun feels scam-y! So careful. Know that once your books leave in that box this company can make up all sorts of excuses to not pay you!

Terrible Business

I sent in nine books in total to sell. There were 2 out of 9 textbooks that were used but in good condition. The other 7 textbooks were used ONCE or NEVER USED at all so they were like new. I was quoted a buyback price for those conditions of my textbooks, but did not receive that amount. Instead, I received an amount less than the quoted amount. When I reached out to customer support via email since UNFORTUNATELY there is no contact number for the customer support team. I received a response stating that my “Like New” textbooks were not like new instead they were “good” or “acceptable.” I WILL NEVER BUY FROM OR SELL TO this app AGAIN!

Lower price than expected

I sent in two different boxes of books. One box went smoothly. While the other box they quoted me lower than expected. They said the book was in “poor condition”. However, I would beg to differ. As there was nothing wrong with the book I sent in. I would say it was in good to fair condition. Seeing as how it was used, but had no stains writing and the cover was intact with little bending. It would have been nice for them to send pictures of what they thought was “poor condition”. Seeing as I think our views are different and proof of what they think the issue was would have been nice. They also only sent a review for the box that went as expected. They did not send one for the box that was quoted lower. My guess would be to lower bad reviews.

Skeptical

I’m kinda disappointed. I was going to sell my books to this site because it had great prices. My books are brand new and still even in the plastic, but after reading all the reviews I don’t think I’m going to. I thought it was just a coincidence that one person had a problem. But every 1 star review I read was the same. Every person was trying to sell their books and every single person had a problem with alleged “water damage”, “counterfeit”, or “wrong pricing”. It’s a little disheartening that I could send my perfect, not even used books in and get no money out of it cause they could be mysteriously damaged in shipping.

Overall Good Experience Until Now

I have sold my textbooks with this app before and have had a pretty good experience with them until now. I sent them most of my husbands electrical books he used for school and he had paid lots of money for them. When they got all the books they said they couldn’t accept one because it had “different binding”. How was I supposed to know that they wanted the book with specific binging?! They just have you scan the ISBN number and they will give you a quote based on the books condition and never tell you what the binding needs to be. And my only options were to accept the quote for that book for $0 (I was originally quoted $20 for the book) or have it shipped back to me and I have to pay $9 in shipping for that! I was very frustrated with this because the book was in perfect condition and I did not want to pay $9 for shipping to get it back.

Perfect solution for textbooks

As a college student I go through LOTS of textbooks. I rent some, but I usually buy them if the price for renting is almost as much as the price to buy. That way I can hand it down to other students or sell them to get my money back! Another great way to make extra money is to grab any free textbooks you see available. If it’s not sellable, donate them!

Process was quick, seamless and worth it

This is my second time selling books through the website. The first time went well, I got in return what I was quoted originally. Same thing happened this time, I sent my books three days ago they arrived in two days and I got my money on the third day. I appreciate this website, and I will use it in the future. Thank you!

Good experience

I sent in a large box of college texts books valued at approximately $225. The process does take some time due to shipping but I received the amount I was quoted. I highly recommend reading their rules for acceptable books so that you can avoid what a lot of other reviewers have experienced. I had too go over most of my books and remove stickers from previous sellers. Having a paypal account streamlined the payment process as well. I pleased with the end result and would use this service again.

Amazing

I was told that my college books would not be worth anything at all. After spending around $1,200 on books that is hard to hear. I was able to send back some of my books and received a check for about $330. It was very easy to get the label and send the books out. I’m very happy with my experience at this app.

Got my money for last semester books

I sent in 5 books all ranging from $25-$5. My totally was 70 getting back. They all were in great condition because I had them put away. I got my money a week later and was so happy that this was actually true. Just saying if you are trying this know how to rate your books and done expect more. I will use again when I’m done with next semester classes.

Excellent service!

They took books other places wouldn’t. Scanned the ISBN with BooksRun (made it faster). Printed the shipping label, packed up the books, and dropped it off to a FedEx location. It tracked my package so I knew when the facility received it. Got an email 4 days later saying I got paid (which is either by check or PayPal...I chose PayPal). It was only $3.52 less than what they guesstimated. It was seamless. It was easy. It was fast. Highly recommend!

Great Experience

This website allows me to save a lot of money in books for school that I probably will never use again once the semester is over. They also make it very easy for you to return the book once you’re done with it by providing the address label. The book usually comes quicker than the expected delivery date which is also great. Renting books from this website is half price or sometimes even cheaper than buying the books from the school. I totally recommend using them.

So convenient and easy Peary to use

I sell like 10 or more books at a time to this app and when I am entering ISBN numbers on my laptop I can only enter 3 at a time even though it says up to 30, so it takes a minute.
With BooksRun I just scan the barcodes on back and add to cart and I’m done with my buyback submission in like 5 mins total.
It’s great!!!
