Concerning and It Gets Worse!

Update - After writing the review below, and before deleting UnitConverter [s], I looked for UnitConverter ’s settings. To my surprise, neither Unit Calculator Pro nor Unit Calculator + (yes they are two different paid apps rather than upgrades of the base version) could be found within my phone’s settings menu. UnitConverter was nowhere to be found! Everything about UnitConverter screams spyware or worse. I voiced my concerns, like many others have, to Apple, but I could not request a refund because UnitConverter I paid for twice does not show as refundable for some reason. I don’t know how Apple can claim that they thoroughly vet every app in their store when a surreptitious and deceptive app like this lives on the platform. I want an explanation and my money back, but I’m not holding my breath.

Original Review - UnitConverter seems ok, but the lack of a help section is an issue. More concerning is that the “app support” link brings you to a “page not found” error. After paying to upgrade to +, I am feeling like I made a foolish purchase. I bought UnitConverter because the developer claims that data isn’t collected, but the lack of a user manual coupled with a missing dev website makes me highly suspicious. Anyone charging for their app should provide instructions, and a functional website should be mandatory. I am considering removing UnitConverter and contacting Apple.

Does not function correctly

I purchased this a while ago, every time I wanted to use the features that were considered “pro”/ for purchase, I had to go back to the purchasing screen to verify I had already, each and every time. Very annoying especially when you don’t have an Internet connection and you’re trying to use the features you paid for. The last time I went into use it it doesn’t even recognize that I’ve purchased it and wants me to purchase it again. Yeah right, going to use a different app, and I would recommend you do the same

What a joke!

Don’t bother with a download. You don’t get 16 categories, you get 4 (the top 4 you see in their screenshot. The rest have that dreaded “lock” symbol on them).
To get the rest, you have to upgrade to their sparkly awesome version and pay. I was looking for a length converter and they want me to pay for that. That isn’t even a free one?! HAHAHA!
I was just looking for a replacement for my old reliable converter that’s been crashing and this most definitely is not it.
I’ll just google my conversions instead of paying this thief of a company to tell me that 70mm is 2 3/4inches.

Why not just call it a paid app?

Don’t bother with this if you are looking for a free app. Not even the basics are free with this! Will only do four categories and three of the four you would probably rarely use anyway. Won’t even convert length/distance in the free version. Why not just be honest and list this with the price? Nice looking though.

WARNING - do not update!!

App was great (5 star)till the latest update. It locked out all the conversion options but four. I now have to pay to upgrade to use all the other conversions that I previously was able to use. I understand if the company wants to charge going forward for new purchasers, but to take away service from those who already rightfully had it is wrong.

Avoid the updates, stay with the older version. Now I have to go see what the other better option is.

Changed access

So I’ve had UnitConverter for quite some time and the developer suddenly decided I would have to pay for features I once had...like converting all measurements. I can understand charging people who are downloading for the first time, but you better believe I won’t pay you a dime when This is an existing app and you decided to be greedy for features I once had access to for free. There are plenty of free apps that do the same.

Who pays money for such an app?!

I wanted to use UnitConverter thinking it would be ad supported but I only got 4 categories and the rest is locked behind a pay price. I would use UnitConverter 2-3 times a year at most. Ain’t no way I am paying a penny for that especially with today’s economy. A simple google search did the trick and that’s probably what I am gonna continue doing.

Excellent. Easy to Use Features

For converting many metric to US standards or in reverse THIS iS UnitConverter . With so many apps, it’s hard to know which ones are good. and in reverse- This offers so many options for area or temperature or whatever you need - quickly and easily.

Ok, but needs more categories

I had one that used similar wheels to enter numbers of the known unit, but had far more categories like length, energy (BTU, Watts, Jiules, etc), temperature, data, and more units within each category.

However, it was a much older iOS, and is now obsolete.

App works fine - Undeclared paid upgrade required

I got UnitConverter a long time ago and recently went to use it only to find out that it wants a paid upgrade to do volumes. Check the details on this page to make sure it will meet your needs unless you want to buy the upgrade.

Where’d the calculator go?

TL:DR:
1) great app if you splurge & pay the bank-account-breaking, one-time fee of $2.99; pretty much useless if you don’t.
2) I’m ticked that the calculator seems to have disappeared. (would’ve been 5 stars)

I’ve been a long-time user of UnitConverter and, yes, you now have to pay a one-time fee of $2.99 to use more than 4 of the least commonly used unit conversions, but big deal. I don’t understand people who, like me, were using it prior to the upgrade, getting so ticked off about that - it was a great app and the developer probably should’ve been charging the fee from the get-go. That being said, if you’re not willing to pay the $2.99, I’ll admit it’d be useless, so you shouldn’t even bother downloading it to try it out. What frustrates me, though, is that it appears to have lost the calculator function. Having everything in one app was extremely handy. Having to download another app just so I can use a basic calculator stinks, hence the 3 stars.

If you need it!!

I use UnitConverter weekly - daily for periods of time. My kind of apps are utilitarian and this one does the job for me. One great app

Money hungry creators.

Everyone deserves to make money. Even the creator(s) of UnitConverter. The old app gave me the ability to create my own formulas. UnitConverter does not. And the price they want to upgrade is out of line in my opinion.

The “Converter” is helpful.

Celsius/Fahrenheit conversions are a challenge for me and the converter has been a big help. Having several Canadian friends who live with the Celsius system our conversations include times when C/F converting is used. Thanks!

Won’t restore purchase

You have to buy it again if you reset your device

I do not think in metric anything, so being able to translate into usable measurements is much better than trying to use formulas I learned sixty five years ago in grade school.

Been using this app for years!

I cannot recommend it enough simple design easy to use. Works for so many different units that I know I have not used them all!

Converter.

I use this handy program more and more as the articles I read are often written in metric measurements. I think this feature should be included in basic handheld calculators. I have a copy on all my devices.

Awesome app

Just downloaded it and it’s seems great so if no bugs or hiccups then I’m really happy. It’s free so I got it mainly for Centimeters to inches. But it seems to have a lot more options. I haven’t tried the other available opinions yet. But cm to inches seems to be perfect. Help when buying stuff online that uses cm not inches. For a free app give it a try.

Education

With all the conversations needed in this world this is great to have on our phones.
