I’ve worked with JJJ for years now. Once you’ve worked a certain amount of gigs, your pay rate increases to $25/hr. However, they’ve recently added a new “feature” that shows you gigs at a lower rate so you have the “option” of taking them or opting out. In actuality, this is an excuse to pay you less. Now, the location I’ve been working at only shows me gigs that range from $18-20/hr. And sure, you have the option to not accept them due to pay rate, but the problem is, everyone is now competing to pick up gigs at the lowest price, so the whole shift is filled with people working at a lower rate. The worst part of this is that I’ve seen no increase in the amount of gigs that populate.
I’ve already had issues with JJJ: There aren’t that many jobs in NYC and because of that, the jobs that do appear are impossible to snag unless you immediately tap into IdealFlexWork and hit accept. Everyone I know has had instances of payroll giving them improper amounts and it being a pain to get their money right. This one time I didn’t get paid for a shift for weeks, and they never reached out to me to help sort it out.
But this is the nail in the coffin. The only reason why I singled this out was because it paid well and the gigs I did work consistently with had kind supervisors (not JJJ staff). But forcing this feature onto people has pushed me over the edge. You can’t even turn it off. I’ll be searching for a new job.
