Speaky - Language Exchange Reviews

i have learned soooo much from Speaky. i wish i would have found out about it sooner. i love that native spanish speakers are able to correct my wording so that it sounds more natural, and that i can learn about places from all over the world.
since i am a 20 year old girl, i have gotten around 1000 messages in 3 weeks, which is definitely entertaining, but can be a little scary too. be careful who you talk to. i have learned that if someone asks for a voice message or picture (which Speaky doesn’t allow) within the first few messages, i should probably stop talking to them. one bug that i hate is that messages don’t send if you’re not connected to wifi. it’s really hard to write long messages in another language multiple times.
overall, Speaky has taught me so much and given me an opportunity to practice my spanish, which is exactly what i was looking for. i highly recommend it.

this app glitches so bad I can’t use it. After the first few sentences the typing becomes glacial- I have to wait several seconds in between keystrokes. That’s when it can even connect Me. About two thirds of the time it can’t find a network connection or simply says “something went wrong”. Mind you, I can stream video all day long. It’s not a problem on My end. I can conduct live video conference calls on other apps with zero problems- only this app has this issue.

What makes it even more sad is that a few years ago I was on this app and Loved it. It’s the greatest platform for finding language exchange partners, bar none. Even Tandem isn’t as good- smaller userbase that’s less communicative and more self-censored. this app is large and active and very open. And like I said I loved it, but whatever updates they made, it just doesn’t work anymore, which is sad. Even the website doesn’t work. 🤷‍♂️

How did Speaky even get released? It’s constantly shutting down and giving me error messages. The only options they give you to sign up with - Facebook and Google are extremely buggy. The layout and graphics are disgustingly ugly and amateur. The language options are also lacking. They show the Portuguese flag for Portuguese, even though the majority of learners want to learn Brazilian portuguese since it’s more widely spoken, there’s no way to differentiate. It’s almost like the developers have very little knowledge of languages. I didn’t get far enough to see the quality of users and the messaging system because just tapping on someone’s profile made Speaky shut down.

TDLR: underdeveloped app, seems like the developers have very limited knowledge in both languages (and their nuances, such as dialects) and app programming. Spend your time somewhere better.

Made many connections in the language of my current focus. It’s quick and it’s simple. The only drawbacks is that after a strong language exchange partner is made, Speaky itself (this app) quickly becomes limited in it ability. We usually more often than not have to jump to a different platform, one with more stable capabilities and features. Overall, again –– great, no-hassle connections!!

Hey this app team I really love Speaky and I really appreciate ur work but I really have a big problem that I cannot get into Speaky ...from the morning I’m trying to log in and it’s just doesn’t work and I don’t want to lose my account and my communication with my friends so please help me what is the problem?? Btw I’m using Speaky since March 2020 and this problem didn’t happen to me before.. sorry for my poor

a couple things about Speaky. it’s a very good one, it’s concept is a great idea of having other people teach you their language BUT there is still this large amount of men from the middle east who will message you and ultimately flirt with you. there is also a glitch where when you reply to a message, your text is there twice but when you go back into the chat after the person replied there is only one text bubble from you, it’s really weird. i personally wouldn’t recommend Speaky because of the overwhelming amount of men on Speaky who are just looking for fun.

I really wanted this program to work. I’ve been patient. But every time I’ve used it I have had some kind of major problem. Either it wants to log me in as a new user, when I already have conversations that I am trying to get back into, or it takes forever to post what I have already written. When that happens I then think it didn’t get what I wrote earlier and write it again. Sometimes it goes through twice, other times not at all.

I appreciate how you can meet people according to language interest, but that’s about it for now. It needs major improvement to be usable and effective.

It has a good concept, you can definitely learn a different language but as I look at it, it’s more of a like friend/dating app. You can’t even add pictures to help people or for them to see your handwriting. Has anyone noticed that there’s these korean people who will talk to you for a day or two and then all of a sudden never log in again? Same with some other people...: I’ll be talking to them and then they will never talk on there again. Has this happened to anyone. Overall it’s an okay app, definitely needs some improvement and also Speaky can be very laggy.

Wow, at first I thought Speaky was amazing, but after using it for months now, I deleted it. Half the time if wont send my messages, so I have to type out the same message like 5 times or more. No audio and no pictures can be sent. A lot of trashy guys like to use it to send sexual things. There is no way to report them and there are no rules for Speaky . The most frustrating part is that Speaky bugged me every time I opened it to sign up to receive alerts on my phone and yet once I finally signed up for alerts, I never get alerts! Wow, HelloTalk and Tandem are WAY better apps. This is the worst app I’ve used to learn a language. If I could give negative stars, I would.

Is Speaky still supported? Is the company behind it dead. this app is so buggy & has been for a long time. Main complaint: You send a message, it disappears. Who knows if it sent... who knows what you sent. I presume the same applies to the person on other end. You send a reply and... no reply.

I’d love to use this app, but it needs to be fixed. Sometime this century would be nice. I probably downloaded this a couple years ago and check it now and then... no improvements are apparent.

Right now you are way behind HelloTalk, which is recommend way more than this app. Please improve this app if you want to change my mind.

I do dog the idea. A audio option would be cool. I’m also having some glitches as it won’t let me post message replies from Speaky for some reason. I’m having to go online to the website. There are also some instances where what I’m typing doesn’t show up. Maybe these issues can be easily resolved. Also I can’t seem to verify my email. Little things going wrong. 🤷‍♂️🤔😉

This has an excellent chat feature and some good filters for finding the people you want to chat with. However, it would be much better if there was also a video chat Orión for secure video chats that don’t require giving out your socials. Actually speaking and listening is important too!

It’s a pretty good app, but It doesn’t have the ability to send voice messages or photos, so it’s a bit harder to get help with homework. Another thing is that when I send messages, it never shows I’ve sent it. Once I leave the chat it still says I have a new message and haven’t responded, even though I just did. It makes it a lot more difficult to communicate because I don’t think people are receiving my messages and if I double text people will think I’m weird.

Please solve the problem of stopping the this app application because it no longer works . I hope to solve the problem of the application because it does not send the message to a person and new friends do not appear in it. This problem is in the “Hadithy” application on the iPhone

I want to love Speaky, I really do. It’s a wonderful concept and 90% of the people I’ve met genuinely want to practice language. However, the message disappearing bug really hinders the user experience and makes it difficult to maintain conversations. I’m never sure if the person saw my message go through and it just disappeared on my end, and the fact that there’s already somewhat of a language barrier makes this problem super confusing. Fix that and it would be five stars!

This site is great for talking to people in your target language. However, there are some bugs that need to be fixed.

Sometimes Speaky just shuts off.

Also, whenever I correct someone’s writing and submit it, Speaky shuts off.

Suggestion: A built in translation mechanism would be awesome. Don’t know how feasible it is though. It would just be cool to have one within Speaky so I don’t have to keep exiting and going to my google translate app.

Other than that I’ve been able to correspond with people just fine. I like the filters for finding people. Those seem to work very well. I like only talking to people of my same gender because with men you never know if they’re going to act all weird (sorry—speaking from experience).

I rarely write reviews. In fact I believe I have not yet done so in App Store. But the absurdity of Speaky has forced my hand. I do not even understand how it is still operational since every single page in it crashes and stops working. After choosing a person to talk to, the send option in the chat stops working. And the chats you have started disappear without warning. I will keep on discouraging everyone I can from using and installing Speaky. This is how much I am disappointed by it!

I’m using Speaky for more than 3 years
First,I can’t send pictures to people or voice notes or even go down to write another line
But now it get even worse, cuz people sending me messages and I can’t reply them , like the messages can’t sent
So please fix this problem as soon as possible

Every aspect of Speaky appears to work great and it makes finding people very easy...but then it doesn’t work when you try to talk to them. Often when trying to send a message it just disappears and after refreshing acts as though the message was never typed out and sent, making it almost impossible to carry on a conversation with anybody in Speaky. Fix this major issue and I will give Speaky a good rating.

this app is great! It’s my first day on it and I love it! It has connected me with people from all over the world and I have learned so much already. Although there are some bugs! Sometimes I try to send a message and it does not go through to and I have to refresh Speaky multiple times before it works. Other than that Speaky is great!

Your app and the idea behind it is awesome.

Please bring more options and develop Speaky .

Here, I mentioned my ideas into 2 parts, bugs and developments.

Bugs:
1. Sometimes the sent message doesn't appear in private chat. In fact, sometimes the sent messages do not deliver.
2. Repetitive suggestions of members. I know it's not a bug, but please fix it.

Developments:
1. In the filters section, add search by members' level of language.
2. Bring voice chat, in order to language learners could talk and improve their skills.
3. Check the Telegram app, Speaky is one the best app among messenger apps and tries to copy its options on your own application.

Speaky doesn’t always send my messages through, and some of the messages disappear after being sent. Also, I don’t always receive messages from the language partner. There is an issue with the internet connection constantly disconnecting and reconnecting. However, the filters are good and there are plenty of people using Speaky who are willing to help you with your language studies.

None of my chat messages are sending. I’ll type/send a few lines and if I go back to the home screen my messages are gone as if they never sent. From other reviews this appears to be a recurring problem. The potential for Speaky is great, which is why I gave it 2 stars, but an app that fails in its primary and most basic function-to send messages and chat-needs some serious reworking. I want to love Speaky but all I am is frustrated.
