One GLARING issue I noticed

To the developer: yes, it’s due to font, BUT to say the style you use is better for writing is wrong. It is for calligraphy, but THAT DOES NOT make it the form for writing. Personally, I find the connected form easier and faster to draw. Again, due to this issue (and others I did not mention) I wouldn’t suggest kawaiiNihongo. The other issue (having problems with typing during the test) I would consider MUCH MORE pressing, but your response tells me that kawaiiNihongo is DEFINITELY not worth it.

So I did the test out feature at the beginning (that’s not where the issue is) and skipped ahead a bit because I do already know some Japanese, just not a whole lot. The issue is it counted me wrong on き(I drew it as like the font shown here, which isn’t wrong, but in kawaiiNihongo IT WAS COUNTED WRONG) In kawaiiNihongo they use the disconnected version, which ALSO isn’t wrong, but the thing is since I skipped ahead and BOTH ARE TECHNICALLY CORRECT it threw me off (especially since it didn’t show this on the flash card because I was tying to draw the characters) What was really weird is that was the first card that was counted wrong (due to a stroke order difference, though as I said BOTH ARE CORRECT) The thing is this one issue (along with the problems I had with typing with the keyboard in app on the test) makes me a bit hesitant to use kawaiiNihongo, which is disheartening.

This game is so cute but I am being kicked out.

Developers, please respond and fix. I saw a review that has a very similar problem. They have the same iPhone as me (iPhone 8+) and every time I open kawaiiNihongo it asks me what language I speak and then I hear the background music start to glitch and then I’m kicked out from kawaiiNihongo . I’m really disappointed because it looks like such a fun game and can help me continue learning and brushing up on my Japanese like I’ve been needing. But as soon as I found what I’ve been looking for, it has bugs. So unfortunate. Great concept but kawaiiNihongo is defective. Developers please follow up with a bug fix, response or solution to this problem because I would be extremely happy to play your game.

Fairly simple but could be more

I really like kawaiiNihongo. Aside from being super cute I feel like the memorization is fairly easy. My only tick is that I wish it had a player to player option and was more open world. It’s a little limited but the add on or sister app, KawaiiDungeon, is a fun side thing to test your memorization in a mortal combat/street fighter style game. Worth getting the subscription too. You can only “fail” 5 times before you get a time lock but you can “fail” unlimited times with the sub which honestly “failure” is how one succeeds. So I highly recommend it but just wish there was more open world interaction with real people to practice and more Riko story dialog. She’s the main character but her screen time and story is very limited. As an RPG, they really missed the mark but as a tool for learning they’re doing alright. I don’t think it’s 5* yet but there’s a lot of room for growth.

nice app but many problems

Energy is stupid and doesn't encourage anything except 'don't make mistakes or u cant do lessons anymore'. Also, I wanna be able to do previous parts of a lesson. I got really stressed because I was doing parts of a lesson each day, and when I got to the last one it was a review of everything and I remembered nothing. If only I could have done previous parts of that lesson and saved myself tears and stress. Also, you can't do lessons without internet meaning I had to either spend money I didn't have or lose a wager and my streak. It taught me a lot but some flaws you can't ignore. I love kawaiiNihongo , but please.

Good!

kawaiiNihongo is very helpful, and I'm learning quickly! My only two problems are:
1) To learn more then a few words and characters you have to buy the rest of the lessons with an in game currency. It took almost a week to get the lessons through the in game currency. I got the lessons on sale too.
2) This is more of a suggestion I guess, but I wish I could look at my lesson cards without going taking the lessons. I can't really take notes easily. Maybe in the shrine somewhere.
Some of the things I love are the lesson cards and the art and music! And of course I love the lessons themselves. If I didn't I wouldn't spend so long trying to get the lessons. Keep it up!

What I have been waiting for!

This is the type of immersive Japanese learning game I have been waiting for! You can tell this game is still very new and has a ways to go, but all the thought is there. Although the primary part of the game is flash cards, by making cool cuts scenes and a neat video arcade filled with other games, you quickly forget that it’s just a learning app. I look forward to seeing where they take this, I hope as the story progresses they find ways to teach about Japanese culture and give neat insight. Also I am not sure since they make you choose between a boy and a girl teacher if there is some form of dating sim aspect to this... I haven’t gotten very far but I enjoy what I have done!

Great for learning Japanese! and it’s fun

I’ve already learned hiragana and katakana prior to using kawaiiNihongo, so I have some experience learning Japanese. I can say that this is one of my favorite apps to learn Japanese. The lessons are clear and kawaiiNihongo makes it easy to understand. The way kawaiiNihongo is formatted makes it feel like playing a game, rather than studying and I’m more likely to use this than other apps. They even have a skip lesson button, that lets you skip things you already know, as long as you pass the review test for it. All in all, kawaiiNihongo is an excellent resource for learning Japanese, and it’s fun!

BEST JAPANESE APP YET

kawaiiNihongo is SO amazing! first off, must japanese apps you have to pay a CRAZY amount of money to learn inaccurate japanese. but, kawaiiNihongo offers it for free! you learn how to pronounce, write, and listen! yes, you do have to watch an ad from time to time but, nowhere near compared to bad. not to worry though, you can get premium! which is ONLY 0.99 A MONTH!! they also keep the audience entertained but offering story’s, games, characters, quests, cards you can collect, goals, ect. overall, this is amazing for beginners!

Must have for Grammar

I have two Japanese textbooks that were very expensive and neither of them do as good a job of explaining Japanese Grammar as kawaiiNihongo. It makes learning fun and I only hope they are able to release more in the future! I’ll continue to buy expansions as they are released and use kawaiiNihongo for practice!

Edit: Only issue I have with it is I can’t update my learning progress on the servers unless I’m connected to Wifi. I have data turned on for it and unlimited data for my cellular plan but it simply won’t connect.

Super cute, and very used!

Highly recommended! As the name implies, this really is super cute. The art is just superb. Lessons have listening, writing (typing) and drawing (on screen) components, and the combination really helps lock in what you’re learning. Lessons on each level gradually become more difficult, going from learning to testing. New games unlock with practice, which I really like. There are more features than are first apparent; kawaiiNihongo keeps you coming back for more. I like the changing ‘daily assignments’ and the ‘bet’ feature. Recommended!

こんにちは!

This is a great app for learning Japanese, I’ve never seen anything like it before. I’ve never had any problems with kawaiiNihongo besides that sometimes it can’t save data when my storage is full, however I find that completely fine, because if you need to restart the game, taking the quick test at the start will let you skip past things so you don’t have to do lessons again.
The format of kawaiiNihongo can be difficult to work with at times (I’ve seen it will be much better in the 4.0 update!) and it would be nice if app data was saved to a in-game account instead of on device save data. That said, using a Game Center (or other) account is helpful.
I knew a quite a bit of Japanese before I started using kawaiiNihongo, so for me things like grammar structure and kana are easier, but imagining not knowing any Japanese at all, I can see that kawaiiNihongo is a life saver, and TIME SAVER :p

If you want to know fluent Japanese I 100% suggest kawaiiNihongo.

Best for learning Japanese

This is the best app for learning Japanese that I have found. It teaches you everything you need to know. The audio is native speakers. It teaches you grammar and how to construct a sentence. Everything is super cute, so it lives up to it’s name. The developers are actively improving it on a regular basis. It’s free to use, you can pay by simply watching an ad between lessons, and you can obtain a subscription by accumulating points through doing lessons, playing games, and watching ads. This way you don’t have to keep watching ads.

A million thanks to the developers

The best app out there for learning Japanese

I usually don’t write reviews but I had to for kawaiiNihongo, kawaiiNihongo is the best app for beginners AND to learn Japanese, i love how you keep it entertaining while learning, it keeps you motivated to learn Japanese ! I almost gave up but kawaiiNihongo is what made me learn again ! I also love how you can communicate with other learners around the world, I never seen anyone rude in the comments, always friendly and funny. I can’t really say how amazing kawaiiNihongo is, but it’s definitely worth downloading, it’ll surprise you ! You’ll even find yourself wanting to learn even more, or open kawaiiNihongo more often. You’ll love it specially if you love anime, animated characters, arcade, memory games and stories. it doesn’t make you rush in learning, just learning naturally with no pressure ~
Love kawaiiNihongo, 5/5 ✨
- lost the first review and tried to remember what I said so yeah, lol.

Love it

Here’s a list of the things I like about kawaiiNihongo:
-you can realistically access all content for free (I did)
-if you don’t want to jump through some hoops, you can just buy all the content (it’s not expensive)
-it feels like a game instead of studying
-they teach grammar and kanji
-they have little pictures on the game cards to help you remember the new words and phrases
-they utilize multiple tactics when teaching you a new word or phrase, so you remember it better. Instead of being able to only recognize the word like lots of flash cards will have you do, you will be able to recall it and use it in conversation
-the characters are cute
-the mini games at the arcade are fun
-multiple options to learn. Mini games or lessons.
-the audio is clear. Many apps have poor quality recordings of native speakers talking. These recordings are crisp and clear and they speak slowly enough for a beginner to understand.
-it’s just awesome

I may update this list later. I like kawaiiNihongo very much. The end!

Best thing I have done.

This is by far one of the best apps I have used. Unlike duelingo or other apps, this one introduces you slowly to the language while throwing in a story for why you are learning! The mini games are very helpful and encouraging. I found great joy with kawaiiNihongo for its entertaining music along with many other aspects like the chat board. You can talk with other players about the things you love along with messages from the developers about new feature. I recommend this for starting out so you can learn the language at a rate comfortable with you schedule.
TL:DR Download kawaiiNihongo. It good and Riko is cute

Great! With a few bugs...

kawaiiNihongo is great and I've been using it for a while now. It seems like your just playing a game but your learning and the games in the arcade are great too! You learn hiragana, katakana, kanji, and grammar. They even put pictures to help you remember. Although there are a few bugs such as when you tap on a door that you haven't unlocked yet you get stuck and have to back out of kawaiiNihongo and... actually that's the only one I've noticed but they said they're fixing some other bugs too... anyways I totally recommend kawaiiNihongo!

Edit: thanks for responding to this and thanks for telling me that I'll update it!😸 again thanks it's a great app!

the best Japanese learning app

i have never written a review once but i feel like kawaiiNihongo deserves it! all lessons are available without paying a subscription, and you can tell that kawaiiNihongo was actually made to help people rather than just take money. instead of demanding you pay to learn things, they have options for you to support them, which i take because i'm so relieved to see an app that was made with love rather than greed. not only do they teach you good and important lessons, but they also have a few fun and cute characters and a bit of a storyline that make it more interesting. highly recommend kawaiiNihongo :))

Love It!

kawaiiNihongo is amazing! I’ve only used kawaiiNihongo for about a week or two now and kawaiiNihongo makes me want to learn Japanese and take more lessons on it. The mini games are awesome and makes Japanese learners some fun while learning. I am from South Korea and I only know two languages. I only know Korean and English but I am going to get to know three now that I found out about kawaiiNihongo. I hope you add more mini games and updates to the game to make Japanese learning more fun. My favorite mini game is probably the memory game. I love kawaiiNihongo and will keep using it every day. That is my review on this application. I hope more people purchase it. I hope you make more games on Japanese learning so people can learn more.

A great app to learn Japanese

This is a great app to learning the basic of Japanese. Here you learn hiragana, katakana, kanji, particles, and many Japanese words. There are word games to play that help you learn and memorize an learn Japanese better. kawaiiNihongo is always improving. They just added a new game just recently. The best and most surprising part of kawaiiNihongo is that the customer service is great. If you message them in kawaiiNihongo they will respond to you in a days time. When I got my new phone, It seemed that I was going to have start all over. I asked them if there was any way to transfer my old data from my old phone to my new phone. They fixed me right up. Now I have all my progress from my old phone and I have not lost anything. I cannot wait to see what improvement they will make in the future.

Perfect for learning Japanese

I’m starting out as a beginner and even though I’ve learned a few simple words before kawaiiNihongo , I still knew nothing. With kawaiiNihongo learning has been fun and simple, not overwhelming or complicated at all. The mini games help me with memory and makes thing easy for me to catch on to. The lesson are designed very cute and I love all the details of each card. If anyone tells me they want to learn Japanese, I would recommend kawaiiNihongo to them immediately 😁
