Great interactive map

I live in CA, and my family is scattered throughout the state. I original got this so I could track the activity of their area, but the map is so much fun to use that I've started monitoring other areas of the world too. The ring of fire is particularly interesting to keep an eye on.

It's good to stay educated in the world around you. I've learned that Californa is not at all the worst place to live in regards to earthquakes! Stay safe out there.

My favorite part about the map is the global 3d sphere. It's really easy to jump around to different locations and review the quakes. I love the map is not politically divided - it's all topho (at least that's how I keep my settings). As you zoom in, the state/country dividers pop up, but when you zoom out, they fade away which I love. Or you can select plate boundaries to be toggled on, which is pretty sweet too look at. Great app. Definitely learning more about the world.

Flat ocean

I like Epicenter, but really an earthquake map should show the topography of the ocean floor, not leave it blank as though we are looking at the top of the ocean at sea level. When there’s an earthquake on a mid-ocean ridge I want to be able to exactly where it was in relation to other ridges or junctions or subduction zones. Epicenter is missing details of 2/3 of the world. Please update to include the ocean floors because I do like Epicenter, and would like to give it more stars

Want past history?

Being able to look back 30 days tells the story, but many active fault aren’t moving that much: would more history be available?

Just a thought.

Got the Mmo reference. Me, too.

Great App!

I’m a geologist and I will use this for work. Love that it gives me all the USGS information on my phone and it works with the Apple Watch as well! Saves me from having to open a browser and find the right url ... etc!

Chapeaux

Love it!

You guys have done an outstanding job in producing such a complete picture and description of the seismic events.
In my area(Ecuador) we are in very active Seismic and Volcanic zone and I sure will visiting this site often.

Could be better

I really like Epicenter but..,
My number one complaint: print is so small I can’t even read it with a magnifying glass! It’s basically guessing the general area when I look at map. Enlarge by at least 6!
Secondly: I’d love to see ocean’s topography!!

Just download it. You won’t be disappointed!

Real passion has gone into this super cool app. Developer obviously understands tectonics.

Did not update data

Looks good but would not update any information, saying I was not connected to the internet (which was not the case) or that the server as unavailable.

Well it was updating on the Internet and then it just quit

It worked for about a week and then it stopped updating what’s up with that

Earthquake Geeks Unite!

I live in an active earthquake zone and some of my family members do as well. The this app app makes it really fun and easy to see what kind of activity is going on around us, at which magnitude and what frequency. I love the slick twirling globe and intuitive features. You can auto play the earthquake activity timeline from start to finish, or move the slider back and forth manually to study certain dates.

They also give you two different view toggles: you can choose to see all earthquake occurrences accumulate on the screen, or see them appear and disappear as the timeline progresses. The accumulation view really helps you get a quick visual sense of how much activity has been going on in an area of interest. The interval view makes it easy to see all the places that had occurrences on any given date. You can tap on each dot to see exactly where and when the earthquake occurred.

Epicenter really gave me and my family a new understanding of just how much earthquake activity is going on all over the world...especially where we live! A fun little tool to get friends and kids interested in seismology (and bonus by-product: staying sharp on geography!)

Lastly, this app has a widget you can include in your Today view in the iOS Notification pulldown. It tells you the most recent occurrence closest to you as well as the latest largest one in the world. I love to see interesting tidbits like that in my Today view.

Handy little app

This is a really nice way to visualize recent seismic activity. I’m mostly interested in my own geographic area, but it is fun to spin the globe and see how other hotspots compare to my own back yard. Obviously, the whole ring of fire is going to be consistently lit up, but I had no idea the extent of activity caused by hydraulic fracturing in Oklahoma. It’s cool to see this info in such an interactive way.

Great app, like ability to switch between interval and accumulative view

And being able to see strongest quake in last 30 days and also tap on each dot indicating an earthquake and pull up the usgs data for it is pretty cool- you do have to be zoomed in pretty far to be able to do it though.

Love the globe

The animation on the globe is super-smooth! Watching the earthquakes accumulate makes me feel like I can see patterns in seismic activity. Check out your ‘today’ pulldown for closest and largest. Dots trump pins!

Very informative

I didn't realize there were earthquakes right by my house!
I like the intuitive interface a lot.

Super cool!

I love how interactive the globe feature is and how easy it is to zoom into a region to explore recent events. Worth keeping on your phone!
