I am offended

2022-05-21

While the lists of words are nice, or I thought they were, there is definitely some trouble with the definitions. Defining a word with that word makes no sense.
However, that is not my most egregious complaint. As I was scrolling through the word lists that I thought were the ‘nice’ part of PowerThesaurus I was reading antonyms for rigorous and found away with the fairies, atypical and bedridden. Are you suggesting that people who are atypical, mentally ill (that is an ableist term but I understand that it is a thesaurus) or in bed for a time cannot be rigorous? If that is something people are suggesting, and in our ableist society I understand where they got the idea, but they are in fact, wrong. Disabled people, not all, but many, have the capacity to be rigorous. Should they care to be.
You might think it is just how people define words. But it is your app. Of course you don’t seem to mind about the definitions. Why would you mind about a bit of ableism?

Please Restore the List Search Feature

2022-06-22

I have used PowerThesaurus and told others about it for a few years. The greatest feature, which set it apart, was the ability not only to search for synonyms of the main word, but then to organize the search results by the first letter. In previous versions this was easily done by simply typing the letter I needed the word to start with in the list search box. Please restore this feature and it will immediately become a 5 star app once again!

Absolutely indispensable

2022-07-23

I've always had a relatively large vocabulary, but this resource is SO helpful at finding alternate and more impactful words, that I find myself using it a LOT and it's helped to recover a lot of the vocabulary that just starts slipping through the cracks when speaking in today's barely literate world. I love it!

The only gripe I have about it is that it's just an interface to the website. I'd happily pay a few bucks to have a local database that syncs to the website periodically. Then this would be a 5 star app. It is a drag to have to copy and paste into a separate app rather than just get a list of the alternates within your current app, but there's nothing they can do about that unless Apple implements something like macOS Services in iOS.

They even put a lot of thought into the rating request dialog. It is a polite button, not a pop-up, and it very respectfully asks if you'd like to rate now or later without interrupting what you're doing. This is a smart developer, because nothing makes the number of stars I'm apt to give drop faster than an annoying pop-up that wants me to rate PowerThesaurus before I've even had a chance to use it! Kudos!

More than a thesaurus, but it lags

2022-08-24

As others have noted, this is more than a thesaurus. It provides slang terms, phrases, and near synonyms. I use it all the time. In the last couple of weeks, perhaps since the latest iOS update, PowerThesaurus has become very. very. very unresponsive. I toggle back and forth between Pages and the thesaurus on my iPad. Every time I bring up the thesaurus, there is a long lag before I can type in the search term. It is frustrating. Another glitch that I hope the developers will address is scrolling. When I scroll through results, if I don’t touch the screen exactly right, I select one of the terms the search returned. It would be nice if there was a panel fir scrolling that was separate from the list of results. Finally, a previous version could filter results by part of speech, which was very helpful. I don’t see that feature anymore. Despite these annoyances, PowerThesaurus is indispensable.

This app

2022-09-25

Oh my dear goodness PowerThesaurus is a lifesaver! I’m a 6th grade writer who spends most of my spare time writing. Unfortunately, I’ve been facing some writers block in my stories, I didn’t know which way to turn. My sentences were good at first, but the words began to bore me towards the end. So I frantically began to search the internet for a reliable thesaurus app. Then I found Power Thesaurus! It helped me to up my game in word choice and make my writing more verbally attractive. If you’ve read this far, you may be wondering why I don’t just rate it a five? That would be because it glitches often and has many obnoxious adds. If it weren’t for that, PowerThesaurus would be outstanding.

Fascinating resource

2022-10-26

I am a writer and have been working on a historical novel for some time. All too frequently, I am faced with using the same word in a paragraph, a no-no for writers who want to vary their word choice.

Power thesaurus not only solves this problem, but I find that frequently among the word choices and meanings is the exact word to provide the meaning I’m trying to express.

It’s a really valuable tool for anyone wishing to improve the quality of their written expression.

Wow. This is an AWESOME tool

2022-11-27

Hands down my go to when I’m looking for unique ways of saying something that’s been said a million ways. It’s a great tool for finding non obvious related words and phrases. Essential for all word nerds that live their Roget’s thesaurus and want something similar on the run.

Would love to see a more useful layout on iPad but hey... it’s still an excellent tool

Love Power Thesaurus

2022-12-28

To be honest, at first I didn’t think I’d benefit by using a thesaurus app when I can just as easily use my interest browser to search a thesaurus but PowerThesaurus proved me wrong —I saw it and decided to see if it would prove to be more useful than simply pulling up a thesaurus site on my browser but Power Thesaurus is AMAZING﹠now I don’t have to worry about opening safari, typing thesaurus, clicking the site﹠then searching on there (after I accept cookies of course, which by the way, becomes infuriating), so it is nice to have PowerThesaurus ﹠not have to depend on Safari each time because that can be very time consuming﹠then you have multiple safari pages﹠forget which one you started with﹠why you needed to look on a thesaurus site in the first place —so, download PowerThesaurus﹠you won’t regret it.

No ads + super fast

2023-01-29

I like PowerThesaurus because there's no pop up ads or distracting elements like the dictionary app. I use the thesaurus a lot and find PowerThesaurus useful and easy to navigate. The only thing about it is that the words that are similar to the word you're looking up is voted on, so it's up to users to determine what a good replacement for that word is. Luckily, that doesn't bother me much at all. Overall, I like PowerThesaurus !

Best Thesaurus I've Seen

2023-03-02

Considering how many English courses I've been taking, I'm always trying to perfect my sentence structure and use the perfect word. This site (and app) helps find not just tons of synonyms and antonyms, but those words and phrases that are similar. So when the word you're looking for is not even at the tip of your tongue, just type in any word somewhat similar; you'll find that word you're looking for and better choices as well.

Just an opinion

2023-03-31

My mind is getting slower. I do a fair amount of writing, and will have to utilize a certain vocabulary word or phrase, but I cannot recall it.

Do I keep PowerThesaurus handy, to help with my recall, or hint to a better turn of phrase.

But that really is a commentary on being a Thesaurus in general, not the actual workings of PowerThesaurus itself. Though I have no complaints like so many others. Maybe that it could like out to a Dictionary, for ease of interface.

Eclipses all others, by far...

2023-05-02

PowerThesaurus far transcends every other alternative. Its extraordinary depth and scope, its lightening fast ease of use, and its remarkable mastery of the insight and nuance that differentiate words and their intended meaning from one another makes it one of the most powerful and relevant assets of its kind. Today, and for many years to come.
I am grateful to its developers.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

2023-06-02

I adore PowerThesaurus. It’s my go-to source for finding words that have just the nuance I intend. PowerThesaurus has improved my writing because it makes it easy to express the right shade of meaning — far easier than relying on my every-day, front-of-the-mind vocabulary. Back in the day, I relied on the Microsoft Word thesaurus and online thesaurus tools. But, after MS made their tool nearly useless, my search for an alternative led me to Power Thesaurus. I’ve never looked back. This is a superior tool, with outstanding speed and flexibility.

Pure joy entertainment

2023-07-04

I get along in seven languages and professionally function in five of them. I’ve got 21 shelves filled with dictionaries, encyclopedias, and thesauruses. Observing the World and how volatile it became I am not especially bent on progress. But this thing here vindicates all the casualties of the century. I can’t put it down so addictive it became. I read it on the bus, I study it in bed, I learn from it at my desk, I consult it when I write, I research it when I need to hone my style, I browse in it when I’m just curious, I bathe in it when I need inspiration, I get drunk on it and end up writing idiocies. PowerThesaurus belongs in the games section!

Easy to use.

2023-08-04

Love, love PowerThesaurus. The layout is simple and efficient without being too harsh or too much on your eyes, unless you’re one who uses only dark mode. It’s smooth, doesn’t lag at all. Compared to what some other reviewers complain about, there are rarely get any advertisements. When they appear, they’re ad banners which are usually hidden away at the top or end of the page. It’s easy to look up words which can liven up your paper compared to just using Google. I definitely recommend PowerThesaurus. There are so many features other than just being a thesaurus.

INVALUABLE!

2023-09-05

And it gets better and better all the time! It used to heel and sometimes fetch. Then it started shaking hands and rolling over. Now, with the latest update, it’s barrel-riding, doing double-axels on ice and loop-the-loop tricks in the Sopwith Camel! Above and beyond the call of duty. Whoever writes PowerThesaurus must have more fun than a sack full of Byzantine nematodes under a full moon in the 7th house! (And if I really wanted to, I could probably use Power Thesaurus to find out the actual meaning of my previous sentence, but I don’t really need to — I just like how PowerThesaurus inspires me to use big friendly words!) (Big friendly words that do tricks on command...and also *not*. 😁) Cheers!🐶🦊🐕🐩🦮🐕‍🦺

An indispensible writing tool

2023-10-07

I love this Thesaurus, even when I have access to my browser and many other options I still have to go get my phone to use Power Thesaurus while writing.

Why? Well the other options give only literal, pretty accurate, categorized synonyms. As a writer sometimes that means just a few options. So often I want an adjacent term that means something a bit different.

PowerThesaurus gives dozens upon dozens of options for those words like “minutiae” where a regular Thesaurus gives me little. I get tons of related terms that help me find that perfect alternative. For phrases like “cheap trick” again I get tons of options like “low blow” “stunt” etc. Regular thesaurus gives me no results at all.

Very useful

2023-11-07

Very useful and easy to use! I love how the basic swipe gestures work to intuitively move through the application like a knife through
butter.

I do have some helpful feedback and a user experience suggestion that I would love to see implemented.

As of right now, after making a search you are presented with a list of synonyms. Currently pressing one of the synonyms takes you to a whole separate screen where you can look at a page that gives you definitions, other synonyms, etc.

What I think would be cool is that rather then the selection of a synonym bringing you to a separate page, if you could have a small drop down definition that appears upon selection of a word. With this implementation, the user would be able to cycle through many different words & quickly & easily find just the right word.

I know the chances of PowerThesaurus developers noticing this suggestion are slim to none but if they do, provided my horrible attempt to articulate my idea is understood, that it would create a much more fluid user experience.

Thanks!

Truly, a powerful thesaurus.

2023-12-09

I use this for just about everything. I love the different sort functions, antonym lists, dictionary definitions, rhyming and ‘sounds-like’ lists, it just keeps going. If you’re any kind of writer, I’d recommend getting PowerThesaurus. I’ve used it for years and unlike most apps, the updates have actually made it better, more usable, and added features without adding clutter. It’s very well organized, and you can choose your preferences as far as the length of words and how narrow the meanings of the synonyms should be really easily. I can’t think of anything I would change about using, it at all (and that’s a pretty strong statement coming from me).

Would Sacrifice My First Born To Keep

2024-01-09

Absolutely LOVE this app. I use it to polish almost every email, letter, speech or script I write. It’s perfect for adding rhetorical emphasis to any mode of communication.

The only thing I would add or change would pop culture references, more idioms, and figures of speech. Granted, I’m not sure how one would even go about cataloging something like this, but if it’s possible I’m sure this app will be the ones to figure it out.

Also integration with my keyboard and grammerly would be nice but that’s just me pettifogging.

Haven’t been able to get it to work.

2024-12-16

I have an iPad Air 2 running iOS 12.4.2 and every time I try to open PowerThesaurus it says “oops, connection lost” but I am on stable WiFi. Is my device not supported, or I am just doing something wrong? I have tried restarting my device and reconnecting to the WiFi but neither of those things worked. Thanks.

Ads Are Horrible

2024-12-16

I used to love PowerThesaurus, and would love to continue using it, but the ads have become too obnoxious. They’re far too distracting. I don’t know why it has become commonplace to torment users with flashing ads, but of course my only recourse is to look for another thesaurus app. If the ads were static, I wouldn’t mind, but I just can’t tolerate the flashing videos. Perhaps the developer could offer a premium option that gets rid of ads.

Ads, meh.

2024-12-16

I had an some favorable reviews for PowerThesaurus. I also found that there are ads contained. I am allergic to these and would gladly pay to remove them using a one-time fee. I understand apps need to be financially viable for the creators, but give us an alternative.
I will download this again in a year to check if this improvement has been made.

HORRIBLE ADS

2024-12-16

This thesaurus in itself is the best app that I’ve used. However, the ads are horrific. As I begin to search a word, an ad takes over my phone: Congratulations! You have won a vacation/phone/you name it! It isn’t enough that it is appearing as I’m trying to use PowerThesaurus but I can’t get rid of it, even when I close out PowerThesaurus and open it again. Pretty much like a nasty virus.

This was not always the case. So, developers, what gives? Please please please stop.

Power thesaurus

2024-12-16

I have been using PowerThesaurus for over 4 years and I really love it and I once given it a five star rating. But recently, I have noticed that it is taking “for ever” to come up.

Please do something and bring the speed back, so I can give you a five star rating again.

Used to be great

2024-12-16

This is still the best thesaurus app I’ve ever used, but the fact that they removed the real time list of words being searched makes me rate three stars. It was fun to watch the words scroll by and every now and then see a new word, and look it up. I’d give PowerThesaurus five stars if that feature was added back.

Smoke em’ if you got em’.

2024-12-16

I’ve utilized PowerThesaurus for about 2 years. PowerThesaurus helps me with my writing. Thank you. But lately, June 2019, these stupid anti smoking ads keep popping up. I understand the need for ads, and past ads placed somewhere on the scroll are acceptable. But these pop up anti smoking ads are awful. In protest I will encourage every kid I see to smoke. I may even bring back candy cigarettes for the wee tykes. If you cease the stupid anti smoking ads, I’ll reconsider my pro smoking campaign for the youths. Deal?

Stopped working

2024-12-16

I really like PowerThesaurus. As a writer, I’m frequently looking for alternative words. I’ve used this for several months and today it just stopped working. The screen says “500 internal error.” Very frustrating.

Quick reference

2024-12-16

Good for quickly glancing at possible replacements for an oft used word. It’s great that a definition tab is available too for the occasional new words one bumps into with the hundreds of options.

I’d pay for a pro version without ads.

Good app, but no update for bigger screens

2024-12-16

PowerThesaurus 's functionality is good, but its look is lacking. It needs to be updated; it looks all swollen because of this and the keyboard looks deformed.

Risky, but excellent so far

2024-12-16

There is an innate risk of having the similar words be crowd-sourced, however as of now this has worked quite well.

Being able to bounce from synonym to definition easily is also very convenient. Definitely would recommend, especially since you can't beat the price.

Very good

2024-12-16

I rarely to write a review but PowerThesaurus helped me a lot in learning english so I decided to give a thumbs up and I wish PowerThesaurus could reach to more and more people who are trying to master english like me

Looking up synonym easily

2024-12-16

I highly recommend PowerThesaurus if you are learning english at intermediate level and you want to enrich your vocabulary range as fast as possible.
