MovieBuddy: Movie & TV Tracker Reviews

MovieBuddy is exactly the type of app I was looking for to catalog my movie collection. Scanning movies in is a breeze. It took me awhile to figure out that I could do several titles at a time, but now that I can, it’s a must faster process.

The only reason I have not given 5 stars is that there are a few areas where MovieBuddy is not very intuitive. 1) I can’t figure out how to export in a format the way I want it to look (cover art, title, & other specific criteria listed by itself). 2) I recently bought a new iPad & it proved to be frustrating trying to get my list to populate on that device. The exporting/importing required multiple attempts. 3) I want the same info to populate for all of my titles, but when I’m scanning them in, I also have to add fields. I wish there was a way for these to appear automatically.

Overall these are fairly small concerns. I would still recommend MovieBuddy to someone with a large collection of movies/shows.

I have been using MovieBuddy (and the book app) for several years. I’m giving 4 stars not because MovieBuddy itself is well built, pretty good user interface, and they keep it updated; I’m giving 5 stars because of their responsiveness. The latest of which resulted in making it much easier for us to record when we’ve watched a movie again.

One day I would like the ability to share a text list of movie title with year via text message or email. A few of my friends and I like to exchange movie recommendations, nothing fancy, having that as an option would be a nice enhancement.

I just downloaded MovieBuddy yesterday and has already become so useful! Love the option to being able to scan all my movie barcodes, and then was able to compare those that I already had a digital copy for. Also liked that I am able to select various movies and add “tags” or “formats” to help me know which movies I have physical bluray/dvd copies, which are digital and/or iTunes downloads, etc. This will definitely make picking a movie to watch much easier and it will keep me from buying duplicates!

This is an excellent way to keep track of movies and shows that have been watched. The one time upgrade fee was definitely worth it, and I'm so glad it isn't yet another subscription. Favorite features include filtering movies/shows by tags, seeing the top actors/directors in my collection, quickly importing information but having flexibility to edit most fields, and being able to add an entire show series as a single entry. Thank you to the developer for creating such an easy to use but fully featured app.

Thanks to this tool, I’ve found myself watching more movies. Turns out I own plenty that I’ve never even seen... Seriously this is a great app for keeping track of a large film collection and the tools are made much more powerful thanks to the MASSIVE amount of info that each film keeps track of. Tracking actors, directors, and other crew across different films is a breeze and organizing your library by different metrics is super useful. Well worth the upgrade cost!

Note to the devs: Please make one for video games....

I am so happy with MovieBuddy! The functionality and tools are exactly what I was looking for in a movie organization app. Adding movies to my library was extremely easy, and I love how customizable the content is. The backup and sync features make it simple for sharing MovieBuddy with my family. An added surprise was the ability to track not only what movies I have lent out, but also the movies that I have borrowed from others. Overall, a great app and absolutely worth the little bit of money.

This is a really great app, I love being able to sort all of my favorite shows and keep track of all the ones I want to watch. If I could recommend anything I would love for there to be an ability to copy all tags from one item to put them on to another. Like if I’m watching a comedy sci-fi TV show I want to be able to immediately copy the comedy and sci-fi tags to all seasons instead of having to manually put them in. It would make it easier

Awesome tool for cataloging movies. After entering a few movies I decided to upgrade to full version. Being able to scan multiple movies at once is great. I did about 10-15 at a time to ensure all were being added. My catalogue came out to over 600 movies! I never thought we had so many. I used MovieBuddy to see if we have a movie in our library or not. Today it saved me from buying 2 movies. That alone paid for MovieBuddy!!! Highly recommended.

Very easy to enter new movies. I just use the tablet or phone camera to scan the barcode and it gets all the information from the internet. Out of the 160+ I have done so far there have only been 3 or 4 that I have had to go out and find and those were obscure tv series. If you loan friends and family your movies it has a Loaned To category that helps you keep track. The only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is because I think it could use a little better filter/search function.

To the developers, this is such a great app. It looks great, easy to navigate, and has really cool features that I wouldn’t have thought of (such as the loan tracker, wish list, the ability to search by director or actor or whatever). It’s well done and it has greatly helped me in keeping track of my movies. Preparing for a move and having the ability to track my movies, and print the list, will help me greatly with letting the movers know exactly what is there.

The loan history feature is tremendous. Now I know who borrowed each album in the past, and I can also see who my most frequent borrowers are.
And I appreciate that it’s much easier to automatically scan all my bar codes now.
MovieBuddy is packed with surprising features. Someone really thought this through. I can’t get over that the developers try to fulfill every suggestion they get. Good job!

I have used Delicious Library on my Mac for years, but had to export my library to Spreadsheet, CSV, or PDF to take with me on my phone.😫 Kimico's this app imports data from a CSV. I started with this free version and with Kimico' helpful support team I have a sample of my movie library on my phone. Next stop, purchasing Kimico's bundle for movies, music, and books. 👏🏻😀

Upgrading through MovieBuddy is an “in app purchase,” so family sharing will not apply to your this app purchase. You will have to buy MovieBuddy again to put it on another device. Then you will have this app+ on one device and this app on the other device. this app will NOT sync if you have different names for the apps, and you cannot change MovieBuddy name. So you have to uninstall the upgraded version of this app and install this app+ to be able to sync your library, on an app that you paid for twice. Save yourself from buying MovieBuddy twice and do NOT upgrade MovieBuddy.

Just purchased MovieBuddy today and already having issues. Was hoping to scan all my movies today but halfway through, I keep getting a cannot connect to server error over and over. If this gets resolved, I will definitely give 5 stars.

I really liked MovieBuddy. Only issue I have is you don’t have movies that are complete collection when you go to search. If you upgrade that would be good

I really have enjoyed MovieBuddy, but this latest update has made it look horrible, one movie title edits details are spread out over several lines with voiceover. I would like to have it back to where the movie title, the movie length, and other details are all on one line. It is too cluttered the way it is now. Please change it back!

MovieBuddy works wonderful but there are a fair amount of titles missing or that do need be manually added, I also wish there was a way you could click on more than one movie at a time instead of adding a single title

I love using MovieBuddy. It helps me keep track off all my movies not only with how they’re organized to who I loan them to. Convenient when I’m out looking for new movies and don’t remember if I already have it.

Im still waiting for the option to put movie/tv titles starting with a number under one tab, called "#" , instead of having a 1 tab, 2 tab, 3 tab, etc.. see example below

Great app that performs as advertised. Easy indexing and sorting of movies. Many details that are easily customized. Recommended for all movie collectors

Wish developer would add a random title selector (by genre would be sharp) for those times when difficult to decide what to watch.

After paying for the upgrade it seems to have a harder time pulling up the right movie. It seems to guess the movie title rather than have just a database of the barcodes. After adding a few at a time would have to go through them to make sure the right ones were added. Examples: Scan the original it adds the sequel. Added movie that has part of the movie in the title of another. Hopefully there will be improvements in the adding than MovieBuddy just guessing
