Useless for RAW import

Just got ImageSync set up with my KP and iPad Pro. First thing I noticed is no landscape mode in ImageSync . Once I got the Wi-Fi connected import is kinda slow and limited to one image at a time. Once the RAW image is imported I can’t do anything with it. The Photo app shows a blank image with the EXIF data (no PEF support?). Affinity photo can see the Image Sync folder but shows nothing in it - Apple’s Files app is the same situation. I can’t move the RAW images as they don’t show, and the Image Sync app doesn’t connect directly with Dropbox or Google Drive, so no way to transfer the RAW images to cloud services. Once I disconnect the camera and go into the Image Sync app the RAW images show as blanks… so what am I supposed to do with ImageSync? It’s completely useless for RAW import and editing on the go. Save your time and buy an SD card dongle.

Update: I found a way to move RAW files into Affinity Photo for editing. After importing Raw from your Pentax with Image Sync open the Photo app, export the blank RAW to a cloud service (Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud…), once the RAW uploads go into Affinity and open/redownload the RAW file… so basically download, upload, then download again. Unfortunately I can’t export from Apple’s Photo app directly to Affinity, and Image Sync has no file management or linking to cloud services… I’d rather use an SD card dongle than go through this process with Image Sync again.

Painful, slow, odd

I didn’t try too long to use ImageSync. After setting up my phone to talk over wifi with the camera I started wondering why I’d want to route the photos through my phone to get them to my computer. Since I had to click on each photo to transfer them individually, I had loads of time to think. After five or so, I opted to transfer them directly off the as card. That took a couple of seconds. Not even enough time to delete ImageSync .

Simply doesn’t work anymore

Prior to the 2.0 update, ImageSync was finicky and awkward to use but it at least worked. Now, ImageSync simply doesn’t work, period. The thumbnails won’t load, I cannot transfer any of my photos from my GR ii to my iPhone, and it has become an absolute disappointment. Ricoh, please fix this. It’s a shame that I now cannot use the very feature that was supposed to make upgrading to a GR ii worth it.

Super disappointed - can no longer connect!

I was happy shooting with my GR 3, and using image sync to put photos on my phone, & edit them there. It was a light kit: no laptop, no cera
bag. Just my phone & Ricoh and I could walk around the city all day. Now, I can no longer synch my photos to my phone!!! What's the point of shooting digital if you can't do this. Might as well shoot film. 1 star for ruining my work flow.

You gotta be kidding me

How do you make a barely functioning app work worse? Ask Ricoh. For the love of all things decent don’t upgrade to ImageSync. As awful as the old version is, at least it works. Version 2.0 will not transfer any photos and will drain your battery like a bullet hole in a fish tank. Now I gotta find a way to revert to the old version and something tells me that’s not going to be easy. Run away friends, run away.

Rarely even works

I have a Pentax K-1 and have been trying to get ImageSync to work to transfer images over the wifi. Sometimes it does work, albeit incredibly slowly. Other times it appears to be transferring for 20 seconds or so then says the transfer was interrupted. If you've selected multiple files, you have to go back and choose them all again. Honestly, ImageSync seems like it was designed for someone trying to transfer a single picture. Transferring more than a few at a time is a royal pain in the UI even if it does work.

Very disappointing after getting such a nice (and expensive) camera.

Just stopped working-wish there was an alternative

Just completely stopped working. It worked for a couple years but after an update 6 months ago it no longer does. My phone will show that I’m connected to my camera via wifi but I open image sync and it says that it’s not connected. No matter what I do I cannot get my image sync to work again. So frustrating that it worked for a couple years and then just like that I’m not longer able to use ImageSync whatsoever

Garbage app

Cost money to buy GRII which supports wireless transferring photos. Thought this is awesome, but ImageSync is simply garbage. After transferred photos and I backed up my photos to iCloud, there are no photos on my phone anymore, but ImageSync still took my all storage and never release the empty storage back to me. Every time after transfer photos, I must delete ImageSync once to release storage back, then download again to use for next transferring. So get tired of this. Ricoh's IT programmers are just garbage!

Does the job but frequently freezes

Image syncing does work with my GR III, but ImageSync either freezes and becomes unresponsive during transfer, or the status of the transfer can’t be tracked. The latter is mostly an issue if you have automatic image transfers set up.

Works but missing critical export options

ImageSync is simple, works as it should over wifi, but for some reason ImageSync can download DNGs but when exporting the photo it only exports it as a JPG? Why isn’t there an option to select which format to share the photo in?

In addition I’m not sure where on the iOS the photos are saved so I can’t even manually copy them.

Can be finicky about connecting, but works!

It took a bit to connect the first time. I thought it was broken. Once connected, it seems to work well, though transmission speeds are slow.

Getting better all the time

ImageSync is of course nice to have with a supported camera, but is still a work in progress. Once connected it works well for transferring images to the iPhone’s camera roll, and remote shooting is smooth with Live View.

It really needs to have an option for “Background App Refresh” as well as an option to allow Location data “Always” in order to be useful for Geotagging location data when using the Ricoh GR III.

It should also reconnect to the GR’s WiFi automatically instead of prompting to “Join this Network” as it does now.

It works pretty good. GR3 user

When you connect to the WiFi it says no internet connection. Disregard that and proceed, you’ll find that it is in fact connected. When you have ImageSync open and you see your pictures start to appear on your phone, press play on your camera so that a picture is on the lcd screen, I’m not sure why but this seems to make a big difference. Also, you’ll probably need to change the auto sleep mode on your camera to off, I did but not sure if necessary. If you have ImageSync running too long it will stop working and you need to close and reopen ImageSync . I find it best to transfer smaller amounts of photos at a time but I have transferred over 15 at once.

Please fix - Updated

Updated: The 2.0.1 update appears to have fixed issues syncing issues. I was able to transfer single images as well as groups of images without issue. ImageSync is much more intuitive than earlier versions and finally appears to be the fully functional and usable app it was promised to be.

I was able to download images with the previous version, though very slow and it wasn’t very intuitive on how. With version 2 I can’t even download images one at a time. It just stays at 0% for 5-10 minutes even with my my camera (k70) a couple inches away. I was able to get a couple to show progress to 100% after waiting an incredibly long time but it would just get stuck there and wouldn’t finish. It also seems to drain the battery on my iPhone incredibly quickly. On the plus side the user interface is easier to use and more intuitive. Too bad it doesn’t work.

Works perfectly after figuring it out

At first it was very frustrating. GR iii’s manual is not well written. But here’s what worked for me. Get WiFi info from the camera. Go to iOS WiFi settings and connect your WiFi to the camera’s SSID. Do this first. You can transfer photos this way. But you don’t want to have to manually select the camera as WiFi source every time right? On the next launch, go to Bluetooth settings in the camera and connect via BT (from within ImageSync). FYI you can’t transfer photos with BT. This is going to be used to auto connect to WiFi going forward. So you have to manually go back and connect to WiFi to transfer photos (like the first time). But on subsequent uses (after turning camera off/on) i launch ImageSync and it connects automatically to the camera first via BT and then connects automatically via WiFi. So it took a few tries/steps. Note: I have the camera’s BT settings to allow BT to ALWAYS be on. Makes the iPhone <> Camera connection happen faster.

Great App with recent updates

I noticed the last reviews were from 3+ years ago. I use ImageSync with my Ricoh GR III Diary Edition. I transfer my photos from the camera to my iPhone quickly. You can instantly upload your photos to instagram with ease. No issues. Five stars.

The only good camera app

I have no idea why people are complaining about ImageSync. It connects quickly, the wifi transmission for the live view is incredible, and it's simple. I shoot with all brands for work and only Panasonic has a good app for some odd reason. This one is just as good considering it's just for photos.

Transfers Photos Flawlessly

This is my first Pentax with Wi-Fi, and ImageSync works perfectly - seems more reliable than the process was on my Sony even with the lack of NFC in the camera.

Works exactly as described

Works perfectly for me every time. FYI, when you enter the info required by ImageSync , everything is case sensitive.

This app is great!

I don't know why everyone's complaining…but ImageSync works great for me. I have a RICOH GR III and I always transfer my pictures via ImageSync. Very good app overall, could have some software updates tho.
