I’ve only tried about 10 games so far & consistently find that the puzzles have clearly not been crafted by people who understand how crossword clues should be made.

A large number of the clues aren’t crossword clues per se, they’re general knowledge questions like “the role Julia Roberts played in Oceans 11”. Also, a large number of clues are merely synonyms. Some of them are almost impossible to guess because the answer is in fact incorrect or bad grammar. Like the one where the correct answer should have been a 3 word answer: ‘The Plot Thickens’ & instead the answer was ‘thickening plot’. I guess you could argue it’s a creative/poetic version of the phrase but as an English Major & writer it’s just infuriating. There are WAY too many abbreviations & most of them are specific to America. I don’t know how they found the people who created these crosswords but they just make me want to express words that are cross. 😑

First off, I love crossword puzzles and I really like CrosswordPuzzleRedstone. I’ve had the free version for quite sometime and finally took the plunge for the ad-free version. What I’d hope to find was syncing between the apps. The iPad and iPhone versions do not appear to be “talking”. My completed puzzles are matching, even the ones in progress aren’t matching. That’s my biggest issue. One other issue is the filtering. I like being about to sort by size and difficulty but would really like to be able to sort by creator. And maybe even some sort of order to the main page, alphabetical or numerical. Everything inside the puzzles themselves I like. They’re responsive to touch and do not feel clunky in the least. I am happy to support this team by paying for CrosswordPuzzleRedstone because of all the hours of enjoyment I’ve had over time. The aforementioned issues aside, this is a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ app.

my biggest qualm is that lot of words are super repetitive within a particular creator, especially short ones (like “era” or “ccc” or “old” over and over). no one specifically, but generally across the options. so for example within one “pack” or whatnot i’ll have the same word multiple times and even multiple times within the same puzzle. i stopped doing the “easy” ones and that helped the repetitiveness. hints/solves you can use from the one across website are hardly ever right/helpful/even remotely possible with what’s “locked in” from being correct. the only puzzles i like are by p. pasco, so she or he should do some more. i finished the pack and now im bored again. i’m still going to play it because i don’t have a better option and in the grand scheme of things it’s really not that bad. overall i recommend.

edit: i also like the ones by Gentry. need more Gentry and Pasco talent on CrosswordPuzzleRedstone asap!!!

edit: i think i’m biased towards pasco because the content is young and fresh and interesting and incorporates some spanish. it’s things that are actually relevant to me. so maybe you need more young authors? idk, good luck!

I’ve played about 20 puzzles now and I like it. Sometimes, actually a lot of times there’s repeating words in different puzzles, but that’s not a huge concern. And maybe it’s just on the easy setting so far. My advice or recommendations for this is the keyboard. I really wish they would use the device keyboard instead of their own because it is just slightly different than the normal one to the point where I struggle to type lol. Also I think the organization of the puzzles should be a little better. Maybe do sub settings where you can specifically choose easy medium or hard instead of all at once. Overall I really like CrosswordPuzzleRedstone, I think it’s a much better free alternative to the big name one, fun puzzles that are challenging yet doable.

I like the variety of writers, and I like that we see who they are because I don’t understand one particular writer’s work. (Not that it’s a bad thing, it just makes it frustrating for me). The one thing I want to see is keyboard adjustment.

I really like this game, there are tons and tons of really good puzzles, and they’re not all ridiculously easy like in a lot of crossword apps. HOWEVER, I wish you could rotate your device and play it in landscape orientation. I have the game for iPad and my iPad has a horizontal stand, it really makes no sense to design this only for portrait orientation! PLEASE just let me rotate the game.
Also, there are a lot of ads, and the more you play the game, the more frequently the ads start to appear. I don’t mind that you see one when you open a puzzle or close it, but like multiple times, in the middle of the puzzle, as soon as you fill in a clue, BAM. 30 second unskippable ad. I’d pay to get rid of them if it was $0.99, but $4.99 is just WAY too much. Either show fewer ads, or make it cheaper to get rid of them please!

So overall, great app. I even purchased the inflated 13$ or whatever price. But my only gripe is that there is so much Christian/catholic content. I get that this is an app and the creators are free to include whatever content they wish. But I think it’s enough religious content that it should be included in the description of CrosswordPuzzleRedstone .

Like, after the 100th puzzle with book titles from the Bible or have “idol” be an answer for the clue “false god”, it kind of gets tiring and leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

I’m not religious, but I’m also not ethnically Christian. But, like I said at the top, there is just Christian/catholic clues in practically all the puzzles and it should be indicated in the description so I don’t have to feel like I wasted my money on an app that has too similar content between all the puzzles.

Right off the bat, CrosswordPuzzleRedstone is pretty awesome. It’s the best crossword app that I’ve ever used. On the iPhone it’s awesome. However on the iPad I keep hitting accidentally the button to go to settings every time I hold the device to play the game. That is somewhat annoying. One improvement that I could see would be able to play CrosswordPuzzleRedstone using side view maybe. Or maybe making CrosswordPuzzleRedstone more button friendly with an iPad so instead of having the buttons all at the bottom, it would be best to put them on the middle side to where they are out of the way of what you’re holding but at the same time or easy enough to get ahold of. Most people that want to play the game do not want to go into settings in the middle of a roll. It is quite annoying. Otherwise it’s an awesome app.

I am fairly new to doing crosswords at age 50. These puzzles are fun and challenging. The Hard and Very Hard ones are my favorite. Easy and Medium are fun too for a quick one.

The free version requires you to watch a short commercial after you complete an entire puzzle so not bad at all. No pop ups or anything else. After four puzzles, I was hooked and ponied up the $6.99 to get the “commercial free” version.

Only thing keeping it from being 5 stars for me is some of the creators use repeated clues in their creations. So if you do two puzzles back to back by the same creator they will likely have 3-5 clues the same as the previous one you did.

I loved CrosswordPuzzleRedstone, but after the last update I noticed the option I always used to turn off “show errors” is now gone? Or has it just moved somewhere else? A lot of the fun for me in crosswords is figuring out which of several possible answers works with the other clues around it, and by showing errors in big red blocks the mystery and problem-solving is taken out of it. It’s a useful tool on a hard puzzle if I’m stuck, but I hate having it active constantly. I would love to get the feature to turn it off back!

Really enjoyable puzzles. Because different authors are submitting puzzles, it is a challenge to get into the mindset of the different authors. Some crossword authors are more literal; others are metaphorical; some use wry humor. This adds a level of challenge that I appreciate.

I am curious as to whether there are available statistics on average time to solve puzzles of varying difficulty ratings. I play only the puzzles that are listed as very hard. Some I solve in less than 15 minutes; others in 30 minutes. In my wish list, I’d like an average time of other players by puzzle for comparison.

I truly appreciate the quality of the puzzles and CrosswordPuzzleRedstone . Thank you.

This was my favorite crossword app until I opened a new crossword and one of the clues was Oklahoma Athlete, as an Oklahoma State University Student I only support the cowboys. But the answer was S****r, I had to disgustingly type out those dreaded letters in order to complete that crossword. I still shudder at the thought of possibly typing that word again. I'm not sure I can ever use CrosswordPuzzleRedstone again.
You may feel this is childish or immature, but that only means you clearly have never felt love. I only continue to play in hopes that I can type the letters Cowboy in response to a question relating to Oklahoma State. One day I will see this and when that day comes I will give CrosswordPuzzleRedstone 5 stars, until then they remain sub par. While the apps features are amazing and simple to use, it's options to players seeming nearly endless and CrosswordPuzzleRedstone is amazingly easy to put down and pick up whenever you like; meaning CrosswordPuzzleRedstone deserves 6 stars, I am unable to do that due to the pain I currently feel from being betrayed. I hope you eventually see the error of your ways, but until then I am unable to respect you.

I’ve never been one for crosswords.. they get hard and overwhelming. I have had a few brain surgeries this year(3 within 30 days), and have memory/cognitive issues. I do physical, occupational and speech therapy, to help. In speech, we work on memory and words, and they had me use CrosswordPuzzleRedstone.. I was nervous at first, but loved it so much, I downloaded it when I got home! I LOVE that you guys give hints and don’t try to make people pay for them(so far, from what I’ve seen anyways). You give several options for hints and they’re easy to get to. CrosswordPuzzleRedstone has helped me a lot, being able to stimulate my brain and make me think, yet offers help if needed! Love this. Thanks, guys!

I absolutely love CrosswordPuzzleRedstone, it’s so addicting. I’ve tried other crossword puzzle apps, but this one is by far the best! You can choose from different difficulty levels and you can choose from settings on each puzzle for instance, you can turn on/off hints, lock in correct answers, show errors and many more! Yes, there are advertisements, but they are minimal and only 5 seconds long. Honestly couldn’t have asked for a better program. There’s even a dark mode! If you’re looking for a semi-educational app which will definitely rid you of your boredom. Another awesome touch is that you can see how long it took you to complete the puzzles. I guarantee you will love it!

This is by far one of the best crossword apps on the store. I waited through 2 updates to write a review as I wanted to see how the company fixed issues through each update. For instance, in one update sponsor ads in the free edition would sometimes cause a black screen to appear and make it seem as though your app had crashed, when in reality the home button just needed to be tapped and CrosswordPuzzleRedstone reopened. You don't have to go through a full re-load sequence like you would if it had gone through a full crash or if CrosswordPuzzleRedstone had been closed fully. Once re-opened you just open right back to the puzzle. So far, the latest update has resolved this sponsor ad/black screen issue.

I am also quite fond of the idea of telling the player the grid size, puzzle ease, and author up front. There are some authors, for instance, that I am inclined to not even open their puzzles while others I gobble up every chance I get. The maker of CrosswordPuzzleRedstone puts out as many free puzzles as they do paid! The paid puzzles are rich and totally deserving of the price of coffee (some less than the cost of coffee!) Often the paid puzzle packs come with more puzzles per pack than freebies.

As I mentioned this is one of the best crossword puzzle apps I've played - and I have played almost all of them. I like this one so much that I wrote this review-something I don't normally do.

Wonderful crossword app. Great range of writers and difficulties. The ads are sensibly done and never get in the way of gameplay. If you’re a crossword player, you definitely should have this on your device.

I’ve had an issue with the game ever since updating my iPad to iOS 12, though. Pretty regularly, the game will start lagging behind input. I type a letter and there’s a severe delay before the letter appears on screen. Similarly, when I get a word right, the highlight effect starts late and the animation is in slow motion. The only way I’ve found to fix this is to restart the iPad. No other app acts this way, so I have to believe there’s some issue between the game and iOS 12. It never did this in iOS 11. Regardless, I still highly recommend this game.

8/10 update:
After downloading the new update, I can’t open CrosswordPuzzleRedstone ! It immediately crashes. Oy!!! I’m missing my puzzles & hope it’s fixed soon!!!!!!
Lots of great puzzles, new ones frequently, & you choose your level of difficulty at all times. I especially love that filled in cells are automatically skipped - thank you for adding that! The new dark mode is great - I just wish it applied to all the screens & not just the puzzle itself. I often do the puzzles at night when I can’t sleep & the stark white areas of the main screen where you choose your puzzle pack & the subsequent screen where you open the puzzle can be blinding.
Thank you for such a great free app!! You guys are the best!

I love this crossword app and I can do crosswords for hours. I love the fact that you don’t need to earn or purchase coins for the hints. I like the fact that your crosswords are not too hard nor are they too easy. I am playing on the easy section but I am sure I am in for more of a challenge when I switch to medium and hard puzzles. CrosswordPuzzleRedstone allows me to choose the type of puzzle I want if I want a thinking challenge then go hard if I want to think but not too much play medium and if I just want a casual think sit by the fire place crossword I have it. Great job Red Rock don’t change anything about CrosswordPuzzleRedstone I love it I would give CrosswordPuzzleRedstone a ten star rating if I could they only gave me five stars so I am sorry to say that is what you are stuck with lol...Keep up the great work.

CrosswordPuzzleRedstone is fantastic. Great puzzles frim
a variety of authors. It would be helpful if all of the authors had a website or CrosswordPuzzleRedstone developers had an error submission page that could be forwarded on to the authors. I understand that this could be problematic as many users might mistake a puzzle theme for an error, but i have found a few puzzle errors (not many). Most recently in Mason Fleming’s puzzle “Songs IV” (Very Hard) 15 across is hinted as “Eagles hit” with the answer as “Hotel CaliRornia” which should obviously be “Hotel California”. There doesn’t appear to be a running theme either such as “R for F” or something that would require swapping “F”s with “R”s as this was the only misspelling in this entire puzzle. Extensive internet searches found no trace of this puzzle’s author on the web for explanation.

CrosswordPuzzleRedstone has so many crosswords and no ads except when you complete one. I’m legit addicted, would definitely recommend! They’re doable but difficult enough to keep you interested. Love it!

My one frustration is that the game keyboard can be really laggy. I’m not sure if it’s just my phone, but it isn’t as responsive as my regular phone keyboard and I often accidentally hit the lookup key instead of the letter O. I was just wondering if there was any way to maybe improve the keyboard experience or allow users to use their phone keyboard? When I’m trying to see how fast I can solve a crossword, it can be annoying when I’m slowed down by the keyboard being less responsive!

Crossword is a wonderful puzzle app that stimulates the mind with a variety of authors and levels of difficulty. Having tried other apps in both the iPhone and Kindle environments, I can attest to the ease of use, ease of moving from clue to clue, use of auditory and visual alerts to erroneous letters and the satisfying sounds and visuals that occur on successive conclusion. The layout is not showy which is an advantage and the clues typify the level at which I have played. Having enjoyed the puzzles of a number of different authors, I can say that a few of them construct puzzles, the clues of which resonate to my manner of solving puzzles better than other authors. I found this to be true regardless of level. I am a PhD in Psychology and offer this discovery as a suggestion for you to find authors from whom you find clues that lead to your success at puzzle solving because there must be a correlation between how various choose clues and how various players solve puzzles. This would even Len itself to a great piece of research by a grad student some day !!!

I know CrosswordPuzzleRedstone isn’t advertised as a sleep aid but that’s exactly what it is for me. Every single night for the past few months I’ve done crosswords before bed and it’s so relaxing. I fall asleep very quickly and feel calm falling asleep. At night I like to play the easy ones because it doesn’t require too much mental effort and it’s satisfying getting them right and hearing the ping when I do. During the day, if I need a break from school or work I’ll do some more challenging ones and it keeps me relaxed while also working my brain a bit. CrosswordPuzzleRedstone is amazing and the ads are so short they don’t even bother me. I’m so happy I found CrosswordPuzzleRedstone. The only thing I would change is that for the iPad, it can be a bit inconvenient that I can’t play horizontally. Holding it vertically gets really uncomfortable so I end up playing on my phone, but I would much prefer it on the iPad.
