Love WeReadToo . As a teacher I would highly recommend adding a Literacy Leveler. Each book has a literacy level which helps to ensure each child is reading a book at their appropriate reading level (so a 3rd grader doesn't get a kindergarten or 5th reading level book). Please check out the reading correlation charts for Fountas and Pinell as most books in classrooms are leveled according to their criteria. It would be a HUGE help for teachers like me whose dream is to diversify libraries AND get appropriate books into the hands of readers. Thanks!

WeReadToo has grown so much over the years and I’m so proud it has. It’s such a refreshing resource to introduce users to books written by writers/artists of color and that feature characters of color. I remember vividly the extreme effort my mom used to have to put in to find books like these for myself and my sisters growing up, because these are often not the popular children/YA books promoted by the mainstream. This would’ve been a welcome resource all those years ago and I definitely plan on continuing to use WeReadToo not just for myself, but for my future children as well.

I’m white, but I use WeReadToo to find books to read to my kids. We read all kinds of books. And I hope that by showing them books with diverse characters, they will see early that diversity is normal. And that we might look different, but have the same feelings on the inside.

Representation matters!!! As a side note, anyone mislabeling this gem of a resource as racist has obviously been privileged enough not to have had to deal with the actual racism that would make such an app necessary. Anyway, I don’t want to detract too much from the positivity and good vibes WeReadToo is generating. A great place to get gift ideas and the like. Great work!

This is a great app for finding books to buy to add to my classroom library! Easy to use and the link to buy the books are helpful. My only suggestion is it would be good if you could search by genre or theme so you can easily find books that complement a curriculum.

Thank you for WeReadToo. I struggle to sort through all of the book lists and even Goodreads to find books by/about people of color for my daughter. It’s also difficult to communicate all of those lists to my students in my courses. This has just made my life! If I can make two suggestions: 1) it would be nice to be able to search by topic and 2) it would also be nice to either create a list that stays on WeReadToo or connects to Goodreads. Thank you again! I’ll be sharing WeReadToo in all of my young adult and multicultural literature courses!

WeReadToo has helped me find some of my favorite books so far. Reading stories especially fantasy fiction books about characters that look like me, really warms my heart. I love the updates that’s been made to WeReadToo . WeReadToo is my go to for a new book to read.

I LOVE that this exists, and the list of books is quality, too!! So into this already. It would be awesome to include adult books too, though, and to split what's there already into more genres. Having just children's/YA doesn't narrow down the selection much for people browsing. And it's really important for adults to see themselves in books too!

As a librarian in rural California, I love and appreciate WeReadToo an I will be using it to assist me when purchasing library books for my community. I admire the young lady who created WeReadToo because she knows that representation matters and children of color need to see themselves represented in books as it helps increase their self esteem and lets them see themselves in a positive way.

I love this and will be using it to help my education team select books to use in public school classrooms! One thing that would be helpful is the ability to “favorite” books or make a wishlist in WeReadToo so that I can easily keep track of books I might want to order. Thanks for creating this resource!

True there are many books by people of color, and books with people of color as the protagonists, however, I have to pry through the depths of google to find them. Nice to have an app that that makes the search for these book immediately available!

I wish I had a resource like this when I was younger to display books where I saw characters that looked like me. I am absolutely loving the re-design - so easy to navigate, and so pleasing to the eye! So great to see how many titles have been added since its launch (and I am excited to see more added as well). Definitely a great app.

WeReadToo has been a complete blessing to my wife and I. We are always looking for creative ways to get our children to read more books as well as diversify their book collection. WeReadToo is amazing for people of color and non poc to learn about more black authors and the stories that they have to tell of our cultures. It is beautiful that they are highlight and this is a beaming example of what Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr fought for. His message was equality and this helps gives POC authors the platform and reach that they did not have before. Thank you for this and I will be buying these books for my little cousins throughout the year.

When I was little the only books I got to read were ones assigned by my teachers. Not many of them were written by black authors, very few had black characters. It wasn’t until I got to college that I read books written by black authors and heard black stories. WeReadToo gives little girls a chance to be exposed to black authors and read stories that resemble themselves.

I have several young black nieces and nephews so I use WeReadToo to find books with characters who look like them. Usually I would spend time in bookstores searching but this saves me time and allows me to find amazing stories for my family. I’m so appreciative that Kaya developed something that was needed for people who want to find books with characters who look like them. Thank you!

I cannot tell you how happy I am that an app like this exists. I’m so glad that somebody went out that way to make this. Something to spread black culture is highly needed. The newest update makes everything super clear and easy to use. The best parts of WeReadToo are not only being able to search what I’m looking for, but also the hundreds of recommended options. There’s so much material available.

If you're looking for books that represent your little one and tired of sifting through all those other books at the store, THIS IS WeReadToo FOR YOU!!! From picture books to chapter books, all POC are represented in WeReadToo, meaning our unique POC stories as well. Anyone can go to walmart and find a book about the alphabet, but what about a book explaining why you should love your hair, what activism means and why we need it, I could go on for days. Please download and BUY THE BOOKS because WE READ TOO!

Growing up where almost every book I read as a child had characters that did NOT have brown skin. This is awesome. In a world where we are the minority showing our children that we deserve to be the main character not the side kick. Not the girl down the street. The main character. I am an aunt and godmother and I have already used this to purchase books for the kids I love. There Asian, African American and Caucasian. We are different but we are the same in many ways and we all deserve to be a front row participant in the fabric of the world. Go girl!! Awesome app.

I think that WeReadToo is a good way to introduce all readers to diversity in children’s literature. What’s missing is a search feature (keyword, since novice searchers don’t know titles or authors), a link to neighboring libraries and book store, award winners and an index. As a veteran African American librarian, I’m always looking for ways to diversify a library’s collection and this could be a great tool that I could recommend to colleagues. Seek out librarians. We’re always willing to help!

I really like the idea behind WeReadToo! Super helpful way to find books that let my kids see themselves on the page!

Would love to see WeReadToo develop more:
- browsing by picture (book cover) would be a great option - would allow it to feel more like browsing at the library and be a much quicker way to see what books my kid might want to read (as opposed to having to click each title separately)
- breaking out the "genres" label into actual genres, not just age grouping
- reading level suggestions and/or correlations like another reviewer mentioned
- ability to add keywords to book descriptions to search out books about certain topics

I love the idea of WeReadToo. I actually do love finding books with people just like me in them because it’s nice seeing something that finally represents me and my life. But I honestly feel like it’ll be much better if we were able to read these books on WeReadToo instead of being taken to a place to get it. Like iBooks how you can just purchase the book digitally or just read it for free. I don’t mind buying a book it’s just when you download an app to read book you download a app to read book on your device not to be taken to a link that’ll tell you where you can buy the book. But above all lovely idea

I grew up in Detroit...decades ago. I had several friends, both black and white.l have never been a racist.
The sad part was when my black friends had books with drawings of only white children.
This author is correcting that error!
I am very happy to see these stories.

I absolutely love and support WeReadToo. What an amazing idea. I truly believe diverse literature is paramount to a more understanding and accepting society. The more children see diverse characters in diverse circumstances, the better. I've been searching for a way to locate books based on cultural representation for quite some time, and I'm thrilled to have discovered WeReadToo! Kudos.

We read and develop Apps!! My daughter thanks you for such a great idea! Thank you for helping Devine who we are! Maybe you can add audio books? I’m hoping Apple allows books to be read like Alexa can some day. Maybe you can reach out to different authors or others that can help with this?
