BenchApp constantly force closes. Often times I can’t look at the messages “chatter” from BenchApp force closing as soon as I tap to read them, or they simply won’t load. I miss a lot of important team updates/discussions. BenchApp messaging is also very finicky with sending anything other than a text, or reacting to messages.
Moving from screen to screen no matter on your service is always slow and has long delays.
Overall, not pleased at with BenchApp compared to others. I hope the developers make some major updates so BenchApp is more function-able and not a headache to use.
This used to be a fantastic app for our hockey team, but it has gotten progressively more & more glitchy over the last year. The only way to fix it is to delete and reinstall BenchApp . We are barely limping along with it until the end of this season & will be using another app next season.
It is majorly undependable. I sometimes get the black screen of death for hours & there is no way to predict when that will happen nor how long it will last. The only way I’ve found to fix it is to delete & reinstall BenchApp , and even that doesn’t always fix it. It’s not just me. My entire team has the problem. It ranges from being just a pain that causes delays to a logistical nightmare when it happens on game day & I need to communicate with my team. The day I wrote this review was game day. I needed to communicate a time change to my team and put out a call for subs to our league-wide group. I couldn’t do either. For hours. Nor could my alternate captain.
I’ve paid for the subscription and tried the non subscription version. Both have tremendous problems! I get extremely upset putting all this information and time into BenchApp to help my team be organized for the whole app to just not load or not work correctly for everyone!
Honestly love the idea of BenchApp but like today we have a game later, I have everyone checked in that I need and set up lines for the game, and now I can’t see anything and neither can anyone else!
Starting to be a waste of time and energy!
I like the idea of Bench App, but it can be slow and unresponsive at times (especially with chat). Managing multiple teams is a little clunky and they constantly nag you to pay for the subscription, even when the team Captain holds a paid subscription.
I’m not certain there is a better app put currently, but this one has plenty of room for improvement on the technical side.
App has been great for the last year for my hockey team. In the last month, BenchApp has been very problematic. Scores not saving properly when going through scorekeeper. Random crashes. And now I can’t even get on to BenchApp . Every time I try opening it, it tells me it can’t load my player profile and closes. Now I’ve been completely signed out and cannot even sign back in.
So many bugs on mobile. My app shuts down almost every time I use it. My teams I manage, so often players are forced to a waitlist despite no settings being on for that. Constant chat notifications for messages already read. The web version is much better, but isn’t it supposed to be a native app first? :( My teammates complain all the time about their issues. It could be such a success.
We used to use another sports app, it was much better, but my team uses this. Yes has glitches and other annoyances finding your way around. No doubt about that. And what’s going on with the limited emojis and difficulty sharing copied gifs from the internet in the chat??? To this day I can’t figure out how to share a moving picture joke with friends. And did I mention you only have like 5 emojis to choose from??? Ridiculous.
BenchApp has potential but for two major flaws—the white screen of death and inability to efficiently manage multiple team schedules.
BenchApp consistently locks up or freezes with a white screen—even more so after the purported fix on the October 12 release. It’s a pain having to restart BenchApp constantly.
A member of many teams, and want to see what your upcoming week looks like? Too bad. You can only really see you schedule one team at a time—there’s a calendar view but it’s tough to use and just takes you to the team dashboard. There has to be a better way to show this information at a glance.
Please fix Home page load times. Why does it need to buffer every time you go back to this page? Can timeout and cause issues when looking up game details with intermittent service (i.e. when you’re in a locker room). Can it just show last pulled info rather than pulling data every time you go to it?
Please show “Home” and “Away” details on Home screen cards and on Schedule screen cards. There should be no reason to go to “Game Preview” to see what color shirt your team is wearing.
BenchApp had been great until you can no longer switch between parent and child. This has happened to multiple people on our team and so it is causing the team to not know who is attending because parents can’t switch to their child’s account. I know they can adjust the attendance by going into each event and check in/out under “set attendance for …”. Would much rather be able to toggle back and forth and see the calendar and if we have checked in/out already. Fix this please 🙏🏼
Crashes all the time, notifications work half the time. When adding games to my schedule after November 5th it adjusts the time to an hour before or after when I set the time and won’t let me set the correct time on the 5th at all.
I’ve been using this app for 3ish years now, and it makes managing a team a lot easier. Like a lot a lot. Sometimes it freezes and requires an app restart but that’s not too big a deal. What irks me the most is the inability to check game stats per player. There is no way to do it! I want to check points, plus minus, etc which I input for all players during game, but there is no way to check individual game stats, only season stats. Other than that BenchApp is great, just wish they’d add that feature.
Some of the features aren’t as user friendly as they could be. But all in all BenchApp has been a huge win for our beer league hockey team. Makes life a lot easier and the team is a lot more organized. Only other downfall is it seems like there’s constant updates. But then again that’s just them making improvements
The upgrade saves a lot of headaches for sure, but BenchApp itself doesn’t seem very stable at times. A handful of guys on the team can’t use the pictures in chat feature, servers seem to be down semi-frequently. There was a poll option that I liked but now it’s gone? Was that removed? Overall the $9/mo saves you the hassle of hearding cats.
Team captains, pay for the pro version. It will change your life. I run two softball teams, a pretty regular weeknight team and a beer league weekend work team with a huge roster. Having automated reminders in various forms going out to players to check in/out for games takes the stress off having to send the weekly email, and being the bad guy when you have to text/email a player for the 3rd time. Giving the players the chance to respond via text also makes it so easy for them! The ability to send out a quick broadcast email or text for last minute stuff (rainouts, field changes, etc) saves you from having to search to make sure you have the right current group text chain in your phone. The chatter feature keeps that chatter in BenchApp , and I’ve found my teams get more excited to use it as the season goes on. Oh, and being able to keep track of who still owes team fees? Awesome. The developers are hands on as well. Is BenchApp perfect yet? No, but they are very open to ideas and suggestions and are tweaking all the time. I can’t say enough about BenchApp .
I get that people have gripes - but come on, there are a LOT of tools that we get for FREE. This is a great app. We manage 6 teams on it, as well as a 200-person scrimmage list. It’s so much more convenient than handling via email. Love BenchApp and have watched it turn into a bit of a social media app for us (which is kinda strange.) keep it up!
First couple of years I used the free version and moved up to the paid version about 4 years ago. They will continue to get my money. this app is worth every penny. The developers are super responsive. I’m blown away by the attention I’ve received when requesting new features or finding the slightest issue with BenchApp . They have always provided a solution that works well. There was a time BenchApp felt a little slow, but I haven’t experienced that issue for the past year. I’ve played for a lot of other hockey teams and experienced their management tools and this app bests those apps by far. I wish those teams used this app. It’s rather frustrating when they don’t. Continue the great work this app Devs! Happy to say “thank you” for your efforts in creating a solid product.
Been using Bench App as long as I can remember (2014 onwards?), running multiple beer league ice hockey teams year round, some going on 15-20+ seasons. It has made every aspect of beer league hockey (management) incredibly efficient. We’ve utilized the Pro version all this time and enjoy the day the single Y or N “check in/out” text notifications, payment processing, drink list functionality, and countless other features. I can only recall one brief server issue in all these years; BenchApp has performed flawlessly going on 8+ years for hundreds of players.
Once or twice our group had a suggestion that ended up with BA’s lead developer… Jon got back to us promptly and took care of whatever it was we needed which was impressive. Little tweaks like the ability to remove someone from the drink rotation (permanently, that doesn’t imbibe), bada bing bada boom. Seems Jon & Co have thought of everything. Long live this app!
We’ve been using the free version for several seasons and then about six months ago we went to the paid version. It’s SO worth it.
As the captain, I used to have to still go into Facebook for some players, emails for some, and text the others and then try to compile it all even in BenchApp to keep track of who we needed to call if we needed subs. The paid version took care of ALL that. I just required everyone get BenchApp or at least sign up for it. Even if they didn’t install it, they still got the emails and texts! This became a lifesaver for removing the captaincy headache of trying to get twenty adults all on the same page.
Then earlier today, I had a little snafu with my account and emailed support. The owner replied within a couple hours and everything is all good. I can’t wait to get back to playing, but I know at least until I do, i’ll still be in touch with my team and subs and we will be well ahead of the next season when it’s ready to start (post virus restrictions).
Have used Bench app for 2-years after searching for an app to manage our hockey league team. I've tried others but no other team management apps are as good as Bench app. Easy and full featured, Bench app makes managing a team light-years easier. Great story when needed. Thank you!
And it's versatile! We even use it separately to manage our weekly golf outings.
