and can be played from your music library! EarMachine is helpful in situations
ranging from talking in noisy restaurants to watching television at home.

About EarMachine

What is EarMachine?

EarMachine is an app that helps users listen to the sounds they want to hear. It is designed to be helpful in various situations, from noisy restaurants to watching TV at home. The app is funded by the National Institutes of Health in the United States.

Features

- Simple Interface, Complex Processing: EarMachine has a simple interface that allows users to adjust over 150 signal processing parameters with a simple swipe of their finger on a wheel. The mapping from wheel position to parameter values is based on a large-scale analysis of the hearing status of over 10,000 people.

- EarShare: An intelligent recommendation engine: EarMachine contains a recommendation engine called EarShare that listens to the sounds around the user and recommends wheel positions based on large-scale analyses of hearing abilities and the user's app usage. The recommendations improve the more the user uses the app.

- Listen to whatever sounds you want: EarMachine allows users to choose whether they want to listen to the microphone in their iOS device or earbuds (iOS 7 only). Users can also listen to songs/podcasts in their music library.

- State of the Art Signal Processing: The signal processing in EarMachine is similar to what is used in most hearing instruments. It includes a wide-dynamic range multiband compressor, a multiband limiter, and an expander to ensure that quiet sounds are amplified while protecting users from loud sounds. Users can also use EarMachine as a sound level meter (works best with phone microphone).

WHAT A BOON!! SAVED ME!!

I'm sitting at a 4-day business conference, as I write this. One of my hearing aids is entirely nonfunctional; the other needs adjustment badly. My first day at the conference: The small meeting rooms have no mics; the large room does, but in both cases, all I'm hearing from the speakers is "Mrrr-brrr-nunn-bunn-sbee-brrr-gnn." And I'm gonna have four days of this? I'm considering spending the four days in the hotel bar. (Might as well!) I'm thinking, "Someone should invent an app for this." Then I'm thinking, "Hey, maybe someone did." So I go to EarMachine store and ... WHAM!! There it is: Ear Machine. WOW!! Loud! CLEAR! I was just hoping for a volume boost, but there's a separate, adjustable high-frequency boost as well. Sibilent sounds are suddenly back. "Wrist" no longer sounds like "rift." I'm hearing and understanding every single word from every speaker. EVERY word, clear as a bell. My hearing aids, when working properly, were not this good in a conference-room situation. Saved the entire conference week for me. WOW, again! And many thanks!

Doesn’t work on Bluetooth

Seems like EarPods and EarMachine would be a natural fit but only works on wired headsets.
Claims needs the mic from the headset when you try and start it.
Wired it seems to work pretty well. But I have little interest in going back to wearing wires on my ear as anymore.
Hopefully this updates to include the Apple EarPods , I’ll adjust my rating accordingly

👂🏻👂🏻👂🏻👂🏼👂🏽

Love how simple it is to use and sound Quality is excellent. Like the option to switch mics between phone and headset. And unlike other hearing apps this one don’t try to hustle you for money every other time you use it. Also there is a reason why wired headsets are used Bluetooth headsets have horrible sound Quality on a analog type system for hearing. Wired is the only way to go for High quality live sound.

Best of class

I have been trying four hearing apps on iphone X w/Apple earbuds and also a few hearing aids. My issue is not volume but clarity with multiple talkers, words in songs, talking room to room, etc. Ear Machine (on iPhone X) runs flawlessly and does this quicker, easier, and more effectively—without fiddling with settings, profiles, etc. For me it is as good or better than the $2K-$6K hearing aids.

WOW WOW WOW

Just happened upon this while surfing EarMachine Store. After downloading and sampling several others, this is phenomenal. I had a hearing test and was diagnosed as needing hearing aids, well, for now I think I will stay with this amazing find. Adjustable volume and tone control, clarity is fantastic.
Thank You

Great idea, wish it was more usable

I wanted to be able to use EarMachine in my classes, but it isn't compatible with my Bluetooth headphones. I can't get away with having headphones with cords in class, so it doesn't work for me.

Can’t make it work

I tried this a few months ago and liked it. It worked fine with the cheap headphones I was using. But then those quit working, and I didn’t replace them right away. Now I‘ve bought some good Bose headphones. Apparently in the meantime EarMachine developers have decided that they will only support Apple ear buds. I can’t get Bose to work, even with the cord. All I get is an error message telling me to plug in the ear buds.

Doesn’t Work on iOS 13.5.

Freezers frequently on iOS version 13.5 to the extent that EarMachine is virtually not usable. If you go to the settings function in EarMachine and then back to EarMachine main screen the screen is reduced to 1/2 the size and is not functional. This is a great app but it should work on 13.5.

Where is Bluetooth???

Thanks for the great program, but why haven’t you added support for Bluetooth earphones yet?
If Trump killed the funding, make it an “in-app purchase”. I’d pay for it in a heartbeat and give EarMachine 5 stars!!!!

Great free app

This is better than some high priced subscription application. Too bad there is no Bluetooth option, but still 5 stars!

Bad sound

It works while watching TV but has bad crackling sound. I’m going to look for something better

Useless

I used EarMachine occasionally over the last two years after it was recommended by a friend. Went to use it for the first tome in a while only to discover that it will not work unless I have Apple EarPods connected which I don’t own and have no intention of buying. Deleted EarMachine as it is now useless for me now.

No VoiceOver control

EarMachine is great for listening to birds and filtering other sounds. However our visually impaired campers can not adjust the settings with voiceover enabled. Please add this feature

Doesn't do as described.

I was disappointed by the download. I have high frequency hearing loss in one ear. I would like to listen to music and ramp up ONLY the frequencies where I have loss. I hoped EarMachine would do it, and geek mode looked hopeful - but EarMachine would not fit to the screen and made it impossible to adjust. Deleted.

Acceptable

Not true that EarMachine requires Apple-brand ear buds; I'm using it with Sony buds. Works reasonably well, requires some tweaking and becoming accustomed to. Don't expect the same results you would get from $5000 hearing aids.

Good so far

Still testing EarMachine , but I would like Bluetooth earbud support, and the ability to control EarMachine with an Apple Watch.

Great App, but...

Very nice app. I LOVE the simple, easy to use interface. But, it lacks a couple of features that will keep me from using it. The main gripe I have is the lack of bluetooth support. That's a killer. I'd also like to see, the ability to run EarMachine in the background ALL THE TIME. I'd like to be able to hear the audio of my environment layered over the top of my other activities that make use of the headphones. For example, I'd like to be able to play a game, listen to music or watch netflix and have the microphone continue to be active, so I can hear when someone speaks to me. This would make EarMachine useful not just to the hearing impaired, but to everyione.

Almost destroyed my ears

I opened EarMachine with a volume of 1, I plugged in headphones because it needs headphones to work, and I slightly increased the loudness and EarMachine automatically turned my iPad volume to 100% and it gave me a heart attack

By

YOU CANT USE WIRELESS EAR BUDS

I downloaded and deleted in 2 minutes. I don't use apple ear buds and that's all you can use which makes it a no go for me. I wish I could have rated the actual app but you can't go any further unless you "plug in apple ear buds".
Back to the drawing board!

Bluetooth?

EarMachine doesn’t work with Apple AirPods Pro, so what is the point of it existing? How stupid do you have to be to have a sound app that doesn’t work with Apples premier listening devices?
