Good concept, poorly executed

I love the idea of scanning my groceries & bagging them in my own bags as I do my shopping. But GIANTSCANIT is horrible. I have to log-in at home to load coupons. I have to log-in again at the store. If I get a text message while shopping, I have to log-in again. And there is no face recognition so it’s all manual. I haven’t loaded my credit card in GIANTSCANIT because I don’t trust it. Seems too vulnerable.
Your IT department needs to do a better job updating GIANTSCANIT & doing better about frequent log-ins.
Also the coupons you see before logging in are different from the ones you actually get when you log-in.
The other downside is that I’ve been unable to do a quick scan & pay & go check out. An associate needs me to pull out about 7 random items to confirm that I’m not stealing anything. GIANTSCANIT should say “you’ve selected for cart verification. Please see an associate to assist you with check out. We are sorry for the inconvenience & are giving you a gift card for $10 off your next visit.”
Today I was unable to log-in. So annoying!

This App Never Work!

Every time I try to use it, I never get pass the “connect to giant WiFi” part. It seems like it cannot pick up on the stores WiFi and I keep getting an error message. I’ve tried to erase GIANTSCANIT and reinstalled it. I’ve disconnected from the store WiFi and reconnected it. No luck! I stopped using GIANTSCANIT and started using the Scan it feature in the Giant store app, but for some reason they got rid of it. I don’t know why because it worked excellent and the store I go to is so small that they don’t have the hand scanners. I hope the fix this problem soon.

Useless

Three times I’ve tried to use GIANTSCANIT in-store where I have always shopped. Now it tells me I’m not connected to the Giant WiFi. I noticed there is now a scan it function in the Giant app but that is even worse. Today it tried to charge me for 4 items every time I scanned something. On top of that you can’t scan any products that don’t have a manufacturers ups. No self labeled produce, lunch meat, seafood, fresh meat. So I have half of my groceries to scan when I get to checkout. Unproductive and frustrating.

Caution! App does not honor all advertised specials!

GIANTSCANIT now activates more reliably, but there are still MANY PROBLEMS. First and most important, GIANTSCANIT honors some but not all advertised specials, so if you use it, you must check your receipt carefully to verify that you were not overcharged, then go to the service desk to get a refund on the offers that were not properly applied.

Second, there is no way of verifying that those offers were applied properly until after you commit to checkout.

Coupons are available, but require another login every time, even while using GIANTSCANIT . Finally, there is no way to view details of past transactions unless you are in the store.

Terrible app--still needs much work before I will use it for my regular shopping. It's a shame because the ability to bypass the checkout lines is good for health and safety.

App is broken. Constantly says to connect to wifi.

GIANTSCANIT has worked pretty well for a few years. Saved me a bunch of time waiting for the registers and I don’t need to drag everything back out of the cart to scan it. Pay and go. Easy. It seems like the last update that was pushed in the past week or so completely broke GIANTSCANIT. Restarted, reinstalled, tried two stores, contacted customer service. There’s no support. All the links to the developer site point to a generic home page.

Frustrating

The scanning worked ok, and I liked that I could scan my produce myself if I printed the stickers at the scales. However, when I tried to save coupons to use it asked me to log in, and my login attempts keep getting a “please try again.”
I’m in the parking lot and tried deleting and reinstalling GIANTSCANIT , and now I can’t use it at all- there seems to be an error connecting to the server to log me in with my general Giant account to connect my card. As others have mentioned, the Sam’s Club app works so much better!

Rarely performs as indicated

GIANTSCANIT is absolutely terrible! Initially it worked really well and in the past six months, you’ll be scanning and be halfway through the store and GIANTSCANIT will just shut off and you lose everything. Now after scanning around $200 and already having it packed away in bags, I now need to go to a register and either self check out or have somebody else check me out?!? There’s absolutely no point to GIANTSCANIT, it does not save you time, it does not consistently work and it is frustrating!

Really wish it worked

I hate using online grocery pickup. I would much rather shop in store. I would also like to not have to interact with a person more than I need to. And I like keeping track of how much I spend when I shop. GIANTSCANIT would be great for that, if it worked.

GIANTSCANIT is routinely broken. I’ve used it for a year now and when it works it’s great, I can coupon at home and then scan as I shop. But it works so rarely it’s not even worth it anymore.

Currently GIANTSCANIT is shutting down while fetching coupons. Been doing this for two weeks and still has not be solved.

Used to be great, no longer supported.

I was very happy when Giant first launched this. It made it so much easier to scan using my phone, versus getting the wand to scan. GIANTSCANIT has now gone to the wayside. After talking with store employees at Enola, Elizabethtown, Linglestown, Union Deposit, and Selingsgrove. The company doesn’t want to fix the problems with GIANTSCANIT , the store’s connections, etc, citing costs. It’s time to delete GIANTSCANIT and cut back on shopping at Giant. They were ahead of many other stores, especially Walmart!!!! The only saving grace is the few quality employees in some of the locations that still care about the customers.

Avoid this app

Scanning works ok but some produce will not scan and you can’t easily increase quantities when purchasing multiples. It’s a pain in the neck. The biggest problem is after you complete your cart you still need to wait in line for register to pay. You load your credit card to GIANTSCANIT but there is no way to apply the payment without stopping at register. Stopped at customer service and 2 people there had no idea how it worked and they couldn’t find any instructions. I had to pay for the produce that didn’t scan. So all in all it was a waste of my time. I told them to look at Sams Club for app design and that they should pull their app off the store until it’s fixed.

Does not work

When the handheld devices at Giant did not work, I downloaded GIANTSCANIT so I could still use scan it. GIANTSCANIT did not recognize my card number so I went to customer service to verify that my card number was valid. It was. But GIANTSCANIT did not recognize it. Customer service told me they had had a great many complaints about the scan it app, as well as the scan it handhelds.

I love the ability to pre-scan my products and check out fast. It is the primary reason why I go to Giant instead of other grocery stores.
Now neither the handheld nor the apps work. You need to fix this or you’re gonna be losing losing customers, including this one.

Useless

Installed GIANTSCANIT and went to store, tried it, did not work. Stopped at customer service, she said the WiFi was working fine she was currently using it (on Facebook), didn’t know anything about app. Didn’t have time to mess with it. Next trip to store no WiFi at all, service desk said their entire internet was down, “sorry”. Following couple of trips to store, no WiFi. Finally got logged into store internet, but app still said it wanted Scanit Mobile WiFi, no such connection existed. GIANTSCANIT is totally useless, the store I used to go to in Florida had a neat app that showed current sale items, specials for card holders, and would allow you to create a shopping list from those items, kept a scannable image of the store card, and a real time total of bonus points all with no special WiFi connection. This seems to do nothing except act as a running tab calculator and price lookup, none of which works.

Stopped working after last update

The first time I used GIANTSCANIT it worked flawlessly. Then an update happened.

Now it refuses to connect to the store network properly and when you do get it to connect you might be able to scan 1 item then it disconnects from the network again. Wifi to the store is great and is as strong as any other wifi.

Spent about 10 minutes at the customer service desk and they had no idea what was wrong and said no one else had problems. Removed and reloaded GIANTSCANIT twice with no success. The service desk didn’t seem to have a support contact I could reach out for troubleshooting.

This has been a problem now for about 5 months. Every time I’m in the store I try again but it doesn’t work. So now I officially give up.

Great when it works

For about a month it would not deduct the digital coupons. Got that straightened out and one shopping day GIANTSCANIT wouldn’t work at all. Said I was not connected to Wi-Fi even though I was. A few more weeks it worked fine. Today, half way through shopping it stopped scanning. No one at the store seems to know why it isn’t working. It would also be nice if they had a line dedicated to scan it customers.

Crashes repeatedly and won’t focus on latest iPhone

App has trouble focuses on the iPhone 14 pro (I suspect it’s not taking advantage of the dual lenses for macro shots which it needs to to scan bar codes). Worked great on iPhone 10s though. App now repeatedly crashes mid-shopping trip allowing only a single items to be scanned before I have to relaunch it. Really frustrating experience.

Why another “wallet”??

I was excited to see that my store offered the ability to pay directly in the Scan It app. I took the time to setup GIANTSCANIT and create yet another login — separate from my existing Giant login — specifically for the “Scan It Wallet” service. But why?? I want to use Apple Pay to checkout, so I need to create a “wallet” login to say that Apple Wallet is my preferred method? After getting through this bizarre process, I go to checkout at the store today only to get a “session expired” message and a prompt to enter my “wallet” login in the middle of the store. Just so I can use Apple Pay? Any time I would have saved was seriously negated by this ridiculous “wallet” login. Some suggestions: combine the “wallet” login with your regular Giant account login (because who wants to remember another password?), and offer the ability to skip the “wallet” account process for Apple/Android Pay since there is nothing to store in the Giant “wallet” with these payment methods.

Nice when it works.

Unlike my Sam’s Club app which always works reliably, GIANTSCANIT works well about 60% of time time by my estimate. For a while it worked in one store but never in another store. Giving an error that required a worker to come over and always ended with me pulling my items out of my bags and rescanning them at the register. Other times when my phone battery is under 20% GIANTSCANIT forces me to use the register instead of the express lane. Very annoying. Today it just didn’t work at all, telling me “Oops you need to connect to the Giant Wi-Fi.” Even though I was indeed connected and even tried disconnecting and reconnecting to their Wi-Fi and still no luck. But when it works it’s nice.

Used to be great

I have used GIANTSCANIT for a while. It was working great. Now it continually crashes after every scan and takes several tries to get the cart back up. Incredibly frustrating with a bigger trip!! At first I thought maybe it was just the wifi at one store, but has happened at several different Giant stores. Disappointing

Must set up in Giant store!

I see so many people not getting GIANTSCANIT! It is great. It ONlY works when you are logged into the Giant store free WiFi system. If your card doesn’t link- go to customer service. They needed to give me a new card and number (everything transferred) and now I can scan my groceries as they go in the bags, I go to self checkout and scan my Giant card and my purchases all ring up and I pay and am gone.

Grocery Shopping Made Easy

I was wary of GIANTSCANIT because of the low rating but decided to test it out anyway since it seemed like a lot of the negative reviews were old or individual store specific and I’m SO glad I did. I had zero issues with GIANTSCANIT . The scanner picked up barcodes quickly every time. It was so nice to be able to track my total and bag as I went. My store doesn’t allow the option to pay in app yet, but even without that GIANTSCANIT expedited my shopping trip. No unloading the cart on the belt and no reloading into bags, which is especially nice now with the need to limit touching things in shared spaces. Even the self checkout monitor commented on how easy my checkout process seemed to be! Definitely give it a shot.
