I used WegmansSCAN not long after it was released, and was relatively pleased with it. Dumb that you had to scan the same item multiple times if you get multiples of that item...but for a much faster checkout and efficient bagging, I was pleased. Since then, however, WegmansSCAN has been unusable. Says I’m not connected to the store WiFi, when I clearly am based on connection settings and ability to get other data. I have deleted WegmansSCAN and reinstalled multiple times, as well as turning off WiFi, forgetting and reconnecting to the network, etc- and still cannot access WegmansSCAN past the initial screen. My store does have this capability, as it’s the same store I’ve used it in previously. Very frustrating that I cannot connect. Really want this to work.

Do not use. WegmansSCAN double, triple and sometimes quadruple charges you for items. I have used WegmansSCAN three times. Each time I would scan items and I would get a message a few times that a barcode couldn’t be read. I would try and scan again which usually worked and went on with my shopping. This last time it happened almost each scan. It ended up taking forever. When I checked out it had read some of the times it said it didn’t resulting with it charging me up to four times for one single item. I was able to get a refund after having to check out, it was over $67 in over charges. With this being the third time I have used WegmansSCAN but the first time I have checked for duplicate charges I know the first two times I paid multiple times for the same item. Bottom line WegmansSCAN steals from you and if you take the time to check everything then the time savings is gone. I would NEVER use again.

I have to write a new review which is even worst than the one before.
I still think the idea is great but it doesn’t work in my phone (I have an upgraded my phone to an iPhone 12pro max with the latest iOS and latest app version), even if the phone is connected to the store Wi-Fi WegmansSCAN doesn’t see it therefore I cannot use WegmansSCAN . So basically it is useless!
Old review:
WegmansSCAN idea is good, but there are some issues
1-the scan works half of the time, and half of those times it overworks, meaning it adds twice the items just scanned.
2- a great feature to have would be the option of changing quantities especially if you buy multiples, so you don’t have to scan an item 4 times, it would save so much time...especially considering that for each item you need at least two scans then you need to delete the double scan...you got the idea, right?
3- other bug quite annoying is that I cannot accessed the list (items in the cart) without having to randomly check scan/key/scan bottoms until the list option turns red and I can finally access it and check that the items scanned are correct.
4- On top of not being that easy to scan, once you go to the checkout register you cannot change nor delete qt without a customer service person, so you need to make sure your cart is correct before going to the register.

I downloaded the latest app version and scanned all of my grocery items with success until my last item 5 rolls. I scanned barcode for rolls an it asked me to input number of rolls. When I entered the number 6 it did not accept the input. I’m a net admin so know wireless and IT. Stopping app and restarting it brought me back to same input screen. Could not remove item nor scan anything else. Stopping and restarting network connection didn’t work. Forgetting network and rediscovering it did not solve issue either. Only way to fix is to delete app and redownlod but you lose your order. Second time it happened so dumped everything out of my bags and walked out. Bad API won’t accept input it requests and it locks up order. Fix this Wegmans your store staff is helpless on this!

Interesting idea, but scanning on WegmansSCAN just shifts the time spent checking out to standing in the aisles at the store while picking out items, where you feel in the way of traffic... and store employees definitely let you know that it’s impeding traffic flow to stand in the aisle while scanning. Plus, wifi connection drops frequently which makes the scanning process slow while it reconnects. And after all of the hassle of WegmansSCAN you still have to go stand in line to check out anyway instead of being able to check out from WegmansSCAN or at a separate express kiosk. Overall, using WegmansSCAN made grocery shopping much more stressful, so it got deleted and I won’t plan to use it again.

Was loving WegmansSCAN for the ease of scanning my own items and not having to load onto conveyer belt or worry during covid about a stranger handling everything. However on my latest trip I scanned a PLU not knowing it would totally freeze WegmansSCAN . I got stuck on a “enter quantity of parsley” screen and had no way to back out. Reinstalled, restarted, signed out and back in. No matter what if I log in with my shoppers club now I’m back to the parsley order. Customer service had to re-ring all my items, defeating the purpose of having used it to start, and I was only able to use WegmansSCAN again by entering a different Shoppers Club phone #. Store employees told me this happens all the time. WegmansSCAN developers need to fix this!!! Besides that a desirable enhancements would be if this work within the Wegmans app because having my list in one place and scan another is duplicative and annoying.

I loved using WegmansSCAN, right up until I got home and looked at my receipt and noticed that I had several duplicated items. I should have looked before checking out, or even before leaving the store, but given the current quarantine environment I didn’t take the time. Now I have over $22 worth of charges for items I didn’t buy. I’m going to take it to the service desk next time I’m there, but i just wanted to caution people to be more careful than I was.

This has been wonderful and well timed for the pandemic. Thank you for providing this option for us. For those unfamiliar, you just scan and bag as you go through the store, then it is super fast to check out at the self checkout isle, just scan the screen and pay.
My one feature that absolutely has to be added is an input for multiple items. With shortages during the pandemic the place that this has really hit me is cat food. If the multipack my 2 finicky cats like is out, I have to get 40-60 individual cans. Can you imagine how long I spend in the isle scanning cat food? Please let me scan one and manually enter a multiple!

Overall: I like WegmansSCAN . Used it for the first time tonight and I am pleased. I’d have to agree with previous comments that it is a little annoying to constantly have to hit that Scan Barcode button but I am sure it will improve over time. I did lose connection to the wegmans wifi twice but the order stayed in tact. One thing to note is that if you scan an item while the connection is poor or lost wait for a second before you try scanning the item again - otherwise you may have an item scanned twice. I had one item twice and it was easy to remove. Check out was fast. I am glad you can scan alcohol too - just have to show ID at register.
If I were to suggest two improvements or future developments:
1. Verify age based on shopper data from the wegmans card for alcohol purchases
2. Create a history of purchases section and/or make it easier to jumpstart a(n) cart/order

WegmansSCAN and the ability to scan your groceries yourself are great. The scanner is super sensitive so I have to be careful about just opening the scan with the barcode I want to scan ask in sight as a couple of times random things like a barcode on a shelf have gotten scanned. The biggest drawback is that I use the Wegmans app to make a list so I have to go back and forth between apps while shopping. It would be fantastic if scan was integrated into the main Wegmans app, or if the scan app had a list feature so that people like me don’t have to constantly switch between the two apps.

First time using this and my expectations were kinda low given some of the comments I’ve read in reviews. Overall, it worked pretty well, but some improvements would be welcomed. Every now and then, I would scan something and it would say item not found. I eventually figured out that my phone lost connection with the store WiFi so after I scanned something, it couldn’t look it up. I also figured out that if I waited 4-5 seconds for my phone to reconnect to the WiFi, the item would appear in my list. I can see how people would think they need to scan again and then the item would show up twice, but if you have a little patience, your scan will be registered. Don’t like that I have to press the scan button every time, especially if you purchased multiples of one item. Ideally, let us enter a quantity or keep the scanner up so we can quickly scan again. On a couple of occasions, I would unlock my phone to scan an item only to find WegmansSCAN had closed itself. Fortunately, when I relaunched WegmansSCAN , you click the get started button again and everything I had previously scanned came up. Upon checkout, just walk up to one of the self checkouts, scan the barcode on screen, pay, and walkout. Would like to be able to store my Wegmans card and ideally, this would just be part of the Wegmans app versus a separate app.

I love WegmansSCAN. I don’t mind scanning my groceries and, to be honest, my bagging is better than the cashiers at my go-to Wegmans on Alberta Drive (come on, how do they NOT know that you don’t pack apples in the same bag as metal cans???). Even better, with 18 or so self-check-out machines I never have to wait in line again. Yay. I penalized WegmansSCAN a half star because: it would be better if it was in the main Wego app, and you have to be careful to not scan an item multiple times when the wifi signal is dropped by your phone (a fairly common occurrence). Finally, I’m curious why we have to use a machine to check, versus having a credit card linked to WegmansSCAN itself.

the pros: it’s easy to use. You just scan your item and put it in your cart (bonus if you have reusable bags.) You don’t have to interact with a conveyor belt or cashier so there is less chance of viral contamination.
The cons: you can’t open WegmansSCAN unless you’re in a Wegmans store. It would be nice if there was an offline mode with a shopping list so everything could be done in one app. Also, the scanner sometimes glitches and says it can’t find the item. You scan it again, and it recognizes it. When this happens WegmansSCAN registers the item twice instead of once. I didn’t realize this until after I paid and I had to go to customer service for it to be resolved. So remember to check your running list before you pay.

WegmansSCAN works great for me (relatively small Wegmans, very old iPhone). If the store is really busy it can take a few seconds to find something I’ve scanned; improvements to store WiFi would be helpful. I find it takes a bit longer to shop - but I am through the checkout in less than a minute. When I’ve had a question, the self-checkout attendant has been able to resolve it quickly and accurately every time.
WegmansSCAN needs to be integrated with the shopping list! Fully integrated, as in no need to switch between apps and when I scan something on my list it gets checked off the list. It would also be great to be able to tell it I have multiples of an item rather than having to scan each one.

I used it for the first time yesterday and I Love it and is so easy. I was able to get the hang of WegmansSCAN easily! There some upgrades that need to be figured out.
1. Needs to access your grocery list from the other app. Maybe ask if you want to import the list. Also, it would be great that once scanned the item is checked off. Flipping back and forth is so annoying. Once shopped the grocery list could be edited in the other app to remove items you purchased and leave to ones you did not.
2. I agree with others figure out a way to add several of the same items at one time.
3. It would be helpful to put a booster for WiFi in your stores. Some of the stores are so big and in the future there may be so many people connections may be lost.

I’ve been using my own shopping bags and since the pandemic started (and actually didn’t even use a grocery cart). When WegmansSCAN came along I was thrilled!!! If you use ApplePay, the Wegman’s SCAN app makes checking out even faster and so simple!!
My one request would be to clearly let users know how the settings need to be configured for WegmansSCAN to run. After changing some of the privacy settings on my iPhone 11, I was getting an error message when starting up WegmansSCAN in the store - and could not use it. After about 10 minutes of trial and error at the store, it somehow works. However, I have no idea which setting did the trick. Other than “must be connected to Wegman’s Wi-Fi”, The website doesn’t clearly shows what settings have to be ON or OFF i.e. “Local Network” or “Location.”

I really don’t understand how anyone could give this less than 5 stars. It changes the whole way you shop. Yes, you have to be connected to the store WiFi, I’m sure it’s a security measure or something, just deal with it. Ive actually switched back to using a paper list. Start with your Wegmans bags open in the cart, scan your item, put it in the bag. Done. You can even print produce labels and stick them to the back of your list and scan them all later. Place multiple produce items in your own plastic bags or double up. When you are done, you are DONE. I can’t even believe this is legal... THANK YOU WEGMANS!

10/10 would recommend.
It was really easy to use and it cut my in-store time down significantly. It works best when you bring your own reusable bags so you’re not awkwardly bagging at the self check-out after you pay.
The camera scanner feature can be a little sensitive, so be sure to hold each item away from others when scanning. The first time you use WegmansSCAN , be mindful that you scan each item before putting it in the basket. It’s so easy to forget, toss things in, then have to double check the list later.
Other Pros
-doesn’t drain phone battery (iPhone X)
-doesn’t use wireless data (requires you to be on Wegmans WiFi)
-phone makes checkout sound when scanning
Suggestions for the developers:
I know WegmansSCAN is still in its infancy (5/9/19), but I would love to see it integrated with the official Wegmans app. It could automatically check your list items off as you scan each thing.
Additionally, I think a search bar would be helpful on the List screen to remove items if you have to put something back.

I love WegmansSCAN! I used it for the first time yesterday. I bring my own bags, so I scanned each item and bagged it as I shopped. I could see the price of each item to make sure it was right and then see my total price at the end. Then, I went to the self-checkout and scanned the barcode on the screen. It downloaded all my items, I confirmed the total price was correct, hit the Pay Now button then used my credit card to pay. All my items were already bagged, I didn’t have to wait in line, it was amazing. The checkout process is the worst part of grocery shopping, so WegmansSCAN just made grocery shopping a lot better! I’m definitely using WegmansSCAN every time now.

Love the convenience of WegmansSCAN. You can pack your bags the way you Iike them as you shop and it tallies the total cost of your order so you aren’t surprised at the checkout. Allows you to BREEZE through the checkout process - no more waiting in line, throwing your entire order up on the belt. An especially good option in light of COVID concerns. I was very satisfied with my Wegmans shopping experience prior to utilizing WegmansSCAN but to my surprise Wegmans SCAN has managed to improve what was already a great experience into an excellent one!

I downloaded WegmansSCAN whine in the store. My phone says I’m connected to Wegman’s WiFi in my settings but WegmansSCAN says to connect to WiFi and won’t let me past the getting started button. Frustrating!! It doesn’t seem to know that my phone is connected.
by Blondiemalone
Why a stand alone app? Why not just integrate it into the regular app??? I can’t imagine anyone wanting to just run around randomly scanning stuff in-store.
It’s beyond irritating...you have to connect to the Wegmans WiFi and only use it in the store, blah blah blah. It’s another unnecessary time-waster when I just wanna get groceries and get out. Plus for all the setup u have to do each time while in -store (while zombie shoppers are crashing into u, or too stupid to go around no matter how far over you’ve stopped)...it’s just added nuisance in a congested store that I don’t need.
I haven’t even bothered trying it with the self-checkout bc that’s just stupid—why rescan the same stuff twice? Just bloop and beep it at the checkout *once* and be done.
Honestly both the Wegmans apps are so annoying now.
by Palwi59
Good Idea to scan everything in the cart but this technology is not good for older people. You have to connect WegmansSCAN with store wifi. The wifi at the store drops frequently which you have to wait for in order to reconnect and then start scanning.
Grocery list fonts are also very tiny.

So now I need to go from my families list we put on Alexa, transfer it to the Wegmans app, then switch between the regular app and the scanning app while juggling items and bags. Concept is awesome but they need to make one app for your list and scanning that works with Alexa
by Endlessdelirium
Generally a good app, but it really needs to integrate with the shopping list functionality of the regular Wegmans app so I don’t have to constantly flip between them both
by Asillick
I started using this a couple months before the COVID 19 virus hit and I loved it then and love it even more now. I will never go back to regular check out again. I just wish this was integrated with my shopping list so I didn’t have to constantly swipe back and forth between apps to make sure I’ve gotten everything I needed.

WegmansSCAN isn’t available at my usual store, but I stopped into a store today where it is and using it made shopping so much easier. I just had to scan my items, scan the register, and then enter payment. I hope it gets rolled out to more stores soon!
by Princetonpatty
I just got home from Wegmans and it was the first time I used WegmansSCAN.!
Worked like a dream. I set up my bags in the cart and then just scanned each item I wanted and placed it in a bag. When I got to the self-checkout line I scanned my phone a receipt printed and I was on my way.
by Alilee3069
I’m already obsessed with WegmansSCAN! It’s making my shopping trips so much easier and faster. I can go in quickly for a few items and be out lickity split! WegmansSCAN is super easy to navigate too.
by T-mick
I love not having to worry about what the check out experience will be anymore. I pack my back as I shop, press the screen at checkout a couple times, and I'm on my way.
by KJLombardi
So simple and easy to use. Reduced my time in store by a good 15 minutes and my bananas weren’t smashed when I got home because I didn’t have to rely on a careless teenager to bag them. Love, love, love.
by Edinburger22
App is very straight forward and easy to use. Much faster shopping experience!

So much easier to cash out and shows you right away the discounts that are applied.
Well done Wegmans.

Get it. Just get it. Enter your phone number or Wegmans card to start. Weigh your produce and get a sticker, then scan the sticker. Scan anything you are going to buy! BYOBs and set them up in your cart, so you can scan and go as you shop. At the Pittsford, NY Wegmans, you need to check out at the self-check registers, at this time. Wow! BEST - easiest - most fun grocery shopping experience EVER!
