App is for tracking you

I was excited to try the new CNN Weather app. I have all of my apps set to ‘share location only when using’ because I don’t want to be tracked all the time. The CNN Weather App has pop ups on the iPhone asking me to change the ‘location sharing to always’. Even when I am not using the app I get popups asking me to change location data. Every two hours my iPhone will stop working until I answer either keep sharing settings as is or allow sharing all the time. I had to delete the app just to use my iPhone.

Why is this app requiring an account to spit out information that it should be able to provide based on location, which it also collects (for obvious reasons)?
Sorry, but as soon as I downloaded the app and ran into that demand for an account I deleted the app. I won’t be using it. I don’t see the point. I can always use a free app and ask it to tag a certain location as my home area with no need for an account.

I saw an announcement about this new weather app so I thought I would give it a try. After a few questions about what location services I wanted to allow access to, I was prompted to create a mandatory account to see the weather.
Nope. Sorry. Not happening… Even a simple Google search will give me a rough idea of the weather for my current area without logging into something…
