Unsure 🤷

“Sorry, your device cannot provide 3788.8MB Memory as requested to PatagoniaChat , so we cannot initialize this model on this device. Please try on a newer device”

Using IPhone 12 Mini chat gpt and both perplexity along with others work. Hmm but indeed those devices primely don’t run locally offline on devices.

Biased and politically correct.

App is well designed. Beyond that, it needs a ton of work. It generates text slowly and is extremely biased and politically correct to a nauseating extent. I would love to be able to use my own choice of LLM rather than being stuck with whatever is being forced on users.

Found bugs with latest update

First of all think it’s kind of odd that when you click on “app support” for PatagoniaChat’s iOS AppStore page, you go to the developer website. But it has absolutely nothing to do with PatagoniaChat whatsoever. It’s in Swedish and has random facts on the page such as getting a corona dog (ie. Getting a dog during Covid). So that in and of itself is pretty odd. Also not sure how PatagoniaChat can claim to offer all of these features 100% free with no ads and no data collected. That’s a good thing if true but can’t understand how this can be accomplished in today’s AI app marketplace.

Finally with the bugs: updated PatagoniaChat with the most recent update and tried to download the deepseek ai model. Took a lot longer than it should have especially considering ultra fast WiFi speeds, so kind of a red flag there. But after it finished downloading, tried to use it in any way I could. And PatagoniaChat would crash. Even something as simple as tapping in the text box where you would type causes PatagoniaChat to go black and crash. And then my phone started to slowdown which isn’t normal. And on top of all that my WiFi connection was mysteriously lost.

Tried deleting and reinstalling PatagoniaChat with the same steps above. Same occurrence. Even went so far as to reset network settings and then repeated the steps above. And same occurrence. Seems pretty odd and not sure what to make of it but if this is a bug it’s a pretty big one.

Patagonia

Thank you Mr Matias for giving us the chance to try your app. I think the concept and idea is great, however PatagoniaChat needs continuous improvement to fix. I wonder why a message came to me saying: Your device has less than 3788 of memory and so this model cannot be initialized ?!

There’s Potential

3 stars due to the transparency and communication from the developer. I’m getting a lot of crashes on my 14 Pro and M2 MacBook Air (8GB). Would love to see it remember tabs/conversations from previous sessions. Can’t wait to see PatagoniaChat grow.

Slowwwwwwwwwww

Does do what it says, as AI. However, it is too slow to respond every single time. You could fall asleep waiting for it.

iPhone 12 Pro w latest iOS 18. Is that considered old? No other AI app is slow, on it.

Generated image can’t be saved

Two important features missing: 1, chat history. 2, export generated images. Please consider supporting these essential features, that will be perfect!

Love Where this is Going!

I love the respect for private and secure use that PatagoniaChat is built on.

Just a couple things I’d like to see improved:

When receiving a response, text comes in one word at a time, very slowly.

Often, responses are left incomplete.

Once improved, I will update my review.

Thank you for your efforts!

Sooo Slooow

I got this for free so I guess I shouldn’t complain, but it takes forever to return a result.

Chat history needed

"As someone who relies heavily on AI chatbots for various tasks, I was really excited to try out this new chat app. The initial experience was quite impressive - the interface is sleek and user-friendly, and the AI's responses were coherent and relevant to my queries.

However, one major feature that I found to be lacking was the chat history functionality. During my conversations, I often needed to refer back to previous information or instructions that I had provided, but PatagoniaChat did not retain the chat history in an accessible manner. This made it difficult to pick up where I left off or review important details from our previous exchanges.

I understand that privacy and security are important considerations for AI chat apps, but having the option to view and manage my chat history would be incredibly valuable. Being able to bookmark or save key conversations would greatly enhance the usability and productivity of this tool.

It’s pretty great but could be even better

I will preface this review with stating this is is free and collects zero user data so any ideas I have could be improved with future update.

The overall interface is really good. It’s super simple with nothing more than what is needed for chatting with a llm on device. It follow design notes of even the open ai ChatGPT app with suggested prompts and a clean input and well formatted chat dialog interfaces.

The icon and name and branding are just simple clean and great all around.

The speech to text feature is nice and stable. It doesn’t detect when you stop speaking but I’d argue that’s more accessible for if you pause to think mid way through your question.

The simple use of color is also nice.

Now for the areas to improve.
PatagoniaChat description claims that it is a fully open source project but I cannot find an app by this branding anywhere online on public code hosting sites like GitHub or Gitlab. Also PatagoniaChat listing website or app support go to a website that has no contact information or even a mention of PatagoniaChat at all. It’s an outdated manifest predicting what advancements apple may roll out in 2022. It’s 2024, at least follow apples guidelines and provide some contact information on your support website so end users can get ahold of the developer if needed.

This brings up concerns of the credibility of the developer claiming no data collected and claiming PatagoniaChat is completely open source. Maybe the description meant the llm model used on devices is open source? I’m not sure I’ll ever know which.

Other areas for improvement would be a text to speech option for the llm responses so you could optionally hear the response. iOS has a great built in TTS frameworks that work offline too.

The main issue with PatagoniaChat in its current form is just how slow it is at typing the response from the LLM. I know some LLMs are slower that others on an iPhone but I have other offline LLM apps that run circles around how slow PatagoniaChat is at relaying the response. I’m not sure why it’s so slow? Maybe a artificial delay introduces from a poorly written animation? Or the model included in PatagoniaChat is not as optimized as some of the other open source models used in other apps.

I was kind of thinking of making a pull request to at least add TTS and maybe fix the slow response output but without a public git repo I simply cannot help.

Hopefully you can fix these concerns in a future update even if you keep your source code private. That’s fine too. It’s so close to being a 5 star app.

I love this app finally accessible local AI

For running on an iPhone PatagoniaChat works wonders being able to converse with artificial intelligence without the Internet is really some special. I’m really happy that these developers decided to make this more accessible and share PatagoniaChat for free I would 100% recommend downloading PatagoniaChat one of the coolest technologies I’ve ever seen and I hope, they keep improving it. Thank you for creating something truly amazing!!

Great AI that respects privacy

This AI is able to answer things quickly and well and at the same time doesn’t have the caveat of storing all of your queries or gathering your data. So far the answers have been high-quality and thorough without the need to connect online, which is impressive.
