I’ve been using moodcamera for several months when it was still in beta. Love all the filter options and just the general UI is nice. With a recent update I can no longer use it unless I pay minus the random selection of who knows what filter. I understand getting a income as a app developer but to change it to make it almost completely unusable just isn’t right. Wish the dev the best of luck for the future of moodcamera.
I like some of the filter results, but can't endure the presumptuousness of the UI. Oh, no live preview because seeing what I'm doing "gOeS aGaInSt tHe SpIrIt" of moodcamera ? Maybe the spirit of moodcamera should change to letting me take cool photos how I want to? I really wanted to one time buy this, but not while the viewfinder is literally broken. Live preview or bye.
Since im unable to actually view in real time what it will look like, and wont show me the image after shooting it u til i goto the photos app, id say moodcamera is not done yet. But if these all change moodcamera could be a winner
I love vintage camera apps, I’ve tried a bunch over the years. Some are really great others not so much. Mood is a great app in that regards, as it produces realistic looking vintage pics, and gives some manual control. The provided filters can be tweaked as needed, and that is really cool. I do wish however that it gave the option to import pics and apply filters. And also that it saved a copy of a pic with and without filter. Otherwise it’s a great app, with easy and quick controls. Highly recommended to anyone with a tooth for vintage photography!
The design of moodcamera is nice and pretty simple to use. The film emulation is pretty. The only issue Iv been having is the colors seem to be very inconsistent especially with skin tones. Even though the developer likes the idea of taking the picture and then seeing the film process after the fact. I think there should be a toggle that allows users to see a live version of the film if they want to that way they can get an idea how the colors would look for skin tones. Another good addition to moodcamera would be being able to mirror the front camera images instead of having to edit the photo to flip the image just have a toggle in the settings to mirror the picture.
A lot of people would really love the live film emulation to be seen. Hope you give it some thought. moodcamera is beautiful.
Just want a toggle in settings for live preview. I know it’s been chosen to not do that but I’m voting anyway to say I want this also!
I love the look and feel of moodcamera. The way it makes the photos taken on my iPhone look is incredible! 3 small requests: 1.) Please allow importing batch images from the camera roll to have processing applied. As a Sony shooter, an app could be our replacement for Fuji Recipes! 2.) Allow minor adjustments to settings prior or after said batch import to get the perfect vibe across the set.
3.) Allow individual minor adjustments post import or capture to make it stand out from the rest.
Other than that, moodcamera nails all the things I’m looking for!
I used moodcamera for current trips and I took really good filmy style pictures with all of the presets.
The interface is comfortable, but I wish the camera could took like burst style pictures, because once you click to take a picture it takes a little bit of delay, so if you want to catch something real quick you can miss it easily. I wish moodcamera had a video mode where you can take videos with same style, I don’t know if that would be technically possible but would make moodcamera even perfect!
Tl;dr Winner: Moods, hands down.

I’ve purchased full versions of Filca, Nomo, OldRoll, and Dazz. Each one I bought I was on the fence about in the first place and didn’t find much use for them. Filca had a “gotcha!” Catch where you had to pay more to access the full app and for more film, OldRoll had limited time cameras and watermarked your photos, then Dazz just was so so.
So what does Moods bring that the others don’t? Well to simply put it, what do the others bring that moods doesn’t? I found that every feature in these other apps were found in moods, with the only exception being the RAW format and the “photo backs” of OldRoll. It also makes some much needed tweaks that the other applications didn’t. For example, if you chose a camera on Nomo, you were stuck to an amount of grain. You could love the colors but be stuck with the grain being too much or too little. Moods lets you change the grain to a set of predefined amounts, each amount giving you a nice explanation.
There is no camera bloat either. Moods uses films but allows you to customize quality of grain on them and the tone. So instead of sifting through five cameras in OldRoll or Dazz, all you need is one film selection in Moods. This makes for taking photos a lot faster and you don’t have to fumble as much for the right camera.
Filca is a close competitor to this as its grain emulation is almost on par, but here’s something I noticed about Filca that makes moods better. There’s less grain control and depending on the film you choose it will “distort” the lens on the very side. It makes for a vignette affect but messes with the colors. And it lacks the simple volume shutter, meaning you can’t use any Bluetooth camera buttons!
Lastly, Moods is made by a single developer asking for $15 and gives you a 7 DAY FREE TRIAL WITHOUT ASKING FOR A CREDIT CARD! He’s upfront in his FAQ and a decent guy. Honestly I’m still shocked that the 7 day free trial didn’t pull the rug out from underneath me and say that I’d be charged in 7 days automatically in hopes I’d forget. Love this guy for being generous and a hard worker.
This is the only film emulation app I’ve ever jumped the free trial on just to support the developer. Keep at it Moods.Camera!
Easily takes beautiful photos. For a newbie like me, I love the options available and gentle guides to the different settings available. I travel a lot and it’s a very convenient way to take stunning photos with just my iPhone. Plus the one-time lifetime membership fee is extremely affordable imo. On top of all that, Alex the developer is super active on Reddit and engages with followers of that sub. He’s very intentional about his design choices and is willing to go into depth about why a certain functionality is/ is not available on moodcamera
I’ve been beta testing moodcamera for awhile and have never been more impressed by a mobile camera app before. For years we’ve seen film sim apps come and go - some good, most extremely gimmicky.. but this one? This one is different. Shout to to Alex, the dev, for hitting all of the film sims out of the park! From the grain to the halation, moodcamera just does so well with capturing an analog feel to digital, mobile phone photos. It’s made me enjoy taking phone pics again. Can’t wait to see how it grows!
The fact that moodcamera doesn’t let you edit existing photos is brilliant, I am a pro photographer since 14 years, and I can’t help it, but say that moodcamera is a standalone situation, I don’t know what kind of wizardry it uses in order to achieve it’s portrait mode, and the analog filers are probably batter than most apps available.

Love the many “film” selections, and the option to adjust each of these as desired. A lot of fun to play around with, and moodcamera does a wonderful job of producing quality vintage looks.
Professional photographer here. All I know is that I am finally going to use the heck out of my iPhone for photos now. These images look great.
moodcamera has changed how I used my phone. I’m going out being creative again and having fun snapping some photos. Excited to see this community grow and more filters potentially being created.
Cheers to the dev! Easiest $15 I’ve ever spent. I’m so happy we can’t just edit camera roll photos either. There’s something addicting about taking photos, throwing the phone in the pocket, and checking what “developed” later. Even though it’s only a few seconds, it’s more fun sometimes to wait until later to check the shots.
I found out about moodcamera on Reddit and was lucky enough to be a part of it from the beginning. I find myself truly enjoying taking pictures again and I think it’s inspiring many folks to get out there and take beautiful photos.
I’ve tried quite a few film sim camera apps and mood is easily top 3. Simple, clean UI. Super intuitive app but lots of flexibility to create great shots!
Image results are fantastic! Love that you can easily control the amount of “film grain” in a filter. Go from a vintage film SLR to a 90’s digicam in a flash!
Highly recommend.
I’ve been enjoying moodcamera ! It crashes every once an while but so far it’s great. I hope they can add a feature of using these filters to regular photos rather than just applying them to photos through moodcamera camera.
Easily one of my favorite “in-camera” apps.
Used moodcamera during beta testing, and quickly fell in love with it. The film choices are a perfect representation of the classics we all started with before digital. The fact that you don’t see the finished image in the viewfinder adds to the feel of waiting for your images to be developed. (Don’t worry…you don’t actually have to wait…they’re in moodcamera /your camera roll.) Plenty of quality/tone options, with sample images to show you the results. And the best part for me is no subscription model! Lifetime access is a game changer for me. Definitely recommend.
This camera app is one of the best that I have bought so far and believe me I am obsessed with analog vintage retro film disposable cameras lol, and I have got to say I am so very happy with this camera and it is just outstanding (reason why I bought it) so if you are looking for an awesome film camera that checks all the boxes and can only keep getting better and better then I really think you should give this camera app a try, believe me you will not be disappointed
moodcamera is so well thought out and easy to use. I absolutely love the results.
I’ve been very happy with this camera app, it’s probably the best I’ve used. It does still tend to overexpose, or rather expose to evenly and lifts the shadows too much but exposure compensation works fine and fixes the issue. Great film sims and it even offers an X-pan aspect ratio! The Vista film sim is perfection.
I was a beta tester for moodcamera, and the official release is magnificent. It's just really easy to use, polished, and doesn't do all the over-sharpening found in the stock camera app. I think the developer nailed the one-time price option along with the subscription model as well. This is definitely a worth-while camera app for creatives or even just people that want to tinker.
I’m a film maker and I use Nikon z9 with Russian lenses and I use Arri Alexa and red and film cameras and saying all this to just let ppl know moodcamera a simple and fantastic and I love it
moodcamera recreates film so much better than other apps I’ve tried and there is a ton of customization to get your perfect shot. I feel like I can make it look how my memories look and I love it!
This is an outstanding, fast, stable camera app that does exactly what I need and exactly what it says. It has intuitive controls, a nice selection of filters (dare I say “moods”), and did I mention it’s fast? There is no social, no mandatory subscription (though I would happily support an app like this), no begging for App Store ratings, no dark patterns, just an excellent, well-considered experience that reminds me of the enthusiasm and quality of the first generation of iOS camera apps.
It’s. About. Time. Someone created a very simple, but extremely intuitive app for those that enjoy shooting with that analog film style.
Very impressed with moodcamera!
I installed Mood right before my trip to Japan and Taiwan, and really liked the results. The process is simple and results in photos that really have a film-like feel. It’s fun trying the different presets and adjusting the quality and tone.
The look and feel of moodcamera is on point for me. I shoot a lot of film and digital but lately getting tired for post processing my digital photos to look like film. moodcamera seems to get it right every time. Great work ! Instant lifetime membership purchase for me !
I’ve been beta testing moodcamera since the dev posted about it on Reddit. When I saw it was out of beta I did not hesitate to pay the $14 for lifetime access. This is the camera app I’ve been waiting for someone to make for a decade, and the amount of care and attention put into moodcamera is impressive.
I've gotten really tired of the stock Apple camera app. The photos are too digital. When I take photos on my phone, I want the moments to feel more like memories. moodcamera makes them that way.
I mapped moodcamera to my action button and it's the new way I take a quick snap.
This probably my favorite photo app ever! I decided to pay the one time fee for lifetime access cause I really don’t see myself not using moodcamera. Personally my favorite film is the Chrome with the quality set to 200 and the tone set to ultra! 10/10.

Mirroring the classic film camera experience, there is no live preview of your selected film, letting you focus on capturing the moment instead of flipping between filters.
mood.camera is a point-and-shoot camera that captures natural photos with authentic film character, straight out of your iPhone.
As well as recreating the look of film, mood.camera also takes inspiration from the experience of instant film cameras.
Using a custom image processing pipeline, the app recreates the look and feel of film, with high quality colour emulation, realistic film grain and subtle analog characteristics.
Even with my “real” camera at home, Mood allows me to capture the little moments with nothing but my phone and some inspiration.“ - Cole, photographer.
