About Orthodox Bible

The Orthodox calendar, also known as the Julian calendar, is the calendar used by many Eastern Orthodox churches around the world to determine the dates of religious holidays and observances.

The Orthodox calendar has different dates for Easter and other religious holidays, which are based on the liturgical calendar.

This difference is due to the fact that the Orthodox churches did not adopt the Gregorian calendar, which was introduced in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII as a reform of the Julian calendar.

The Orthodox calendar follows the same month names as the Julian calendar, which are: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December.

The Gregorian calendar has a leap year rule that eliminates the accumulated error of the Julian calendar, so the Orthodox church still use the Julian calendar.

These holidays are based on the liturgical Orthodox calendar, which is a cycle of readings and liturgical services that are used in the Orthodox churches.

However, the Orthodox calendar has different dates for Easter, which is the most important religious holiday for Christians.

The liturgical Orthodox calendar follows the same patterns and themes throughout the year, and it is closely tied to the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

The Orthodox calendar is currently 13 days behind the Gregorian calendar, which is widely used in the Western world.

Orthodox calendar such as Christmas, Epiphany, Theophany, and the Dormition of the Theotokos.

With the Orthodox Bible app, you can access the full text of the Old and New Testament in both English and Church Slavonic, as well as a variety of other Orthodox Christian texts.

It is based on the Julian calendar, which was introduced by Julius Caesar in 45 BC and is currently 13 days behind the Gregorian calendar.

The Orthodox Easter is always celebrated on the Sunday following the first full moon after the vernal equinox.

Whether you are a seasoned Orthodox Christian or just starting to learn about the faith, the Orthodox Bible app is an essential tool for your spiritual journey.

Ads in the Bible?!

This just seems wrong on a serious level. I can read literally any other version of the Bible through apps like YouVersion and Blue Letter. Only orthodox is excluded. And then the “free” app has ads? And not just ads…constant ads. I had to go through 3 ads just to get to a point where I could actually access any scripture…and then there’s an ad banner while I’m trying to read. And still…all this could be forgiven if I could just buy OrthodoxBible and be done with it. But no. It’s a subscription. This just feels shameful. This is NOT how we promote the faith. And yet I am the only negative review. Nobody else has a problem with the shameless monetization of God’s word here? I’m just in disbelief.

Great Bible App!

Great app! Love to have every book of the true bible. Just so people know, it isn’t offline (unless you turn it on before you go offline) and the book titles may be different than what some may think (for example, Hosea is Osee). Great app!

Quick Chapter skip?

I purchased the premium app. Is there a way to skip to a certain chapter and passage for the daily scripture readings? If not, OrthodoxBible is rather unwieldy and cumbersome. Thank you for your help.

Please divide Old Testament and New Testament

It’s pretty hard to go to the old and New Testament but other than that it’s really good, the calendar is helpful.

Great app

Really good app exactly what I was looking for but I couldn't really read the calendar but other than that everything was great

Good app, no chants.

I love OrthodoxBible overall, but just as it has audio prayers, I wish it had audio of chants to listen too as well.

Lots of ads. No audio version.

Good:

OrthodoxBible provides the Orthodox Bible in text form.

Bad:

It’s full of ads, which can be confusing.

The Bible is not available in audio form so you can listen to it (except for some chapters in Psalms).

Good app

Very good

Pretty Good; Needs Refining

Which archdiocese is OrthodoxBible developed from? Russian? OCA? Greek? Antiochian? Serbian? This should be displayed prominently somewhere.

The calendar is the one from the Goarch website, but Goarch uses the new calendar.

More details about the where OrthodoxBible comes from would be nice.

Why Track Users

I cannot recommend an app that tracks its users. Whereas I applaud your hard work and development of OrthodoxBible, I will not be using it for the reason stated.

Fabulous!

I really like OrthodoxBible. It was just what I was looking for! Very cheap to get rid of ads and well worth it. They make improvements and add features regularly. Will always be my go to app for the Orthodox Bible!

Very nice app

I wanted to ask if you guys could add subtitles to the audio prayers so that we could read along with it thank you!

By

Quality and content access

It’s alright I suppose. But it makes you pay money every month if you want access to everything. Pretty sad for an Orthodox app to charge people.

By

Pretty good but…

I’m converting to orthodoxy so OrthodoxBible is really helping me but I wish you didn’t have to pay for 80% of the content

Terrible App.

Don’t get me wrong, I am orthodox. The biggest flaw with this application is that it’s made to make money. You can’t read the bible unless your connected to the internet, there is an add after every button you touch, even if your connected to the internet the only thing you can do is read the bible. You can’t listen to the audio books and other stuff. God is not a means of making money. If they had just made OrthodoxBible completely free form subscription and advertising it would have easily been a 5 star and one of the most downloaded apps. If your going through the reviews to see if it’s worth it let me tell you it’s not. I’m being completely honest here.

Can I read the Bible with audio option?

Is there an option to read the Bible if I do the annual option?
Also, when you do do the Bible section is very slow.

By

A Blessing

Wonderful app.

Good but needs refining

This is very good but it can be better such as the removal of ads. I am aware of the lack of money causing slower development but I hope that when they get enough money they can remove premium and the ads. God bless

It’s amazing

It could maybe have a Greek Orthodox section to though, besides that it’s AMAZING!!!!

Very good app!

I like OrthodoxBible very much because it is hard to find an orthodox bible. One thing I would suggest is adding a bookmark option on each chapter and verse, so you can pick up where you left off.

By

To many ads

It’s to hard to navigate with the free version. The ads are long and make it hard to enjoy. I’m sure the premium version is great.

Decent app, but lacking

I like the prayers and devotionals, but it feels a little robotic. Also, the scripture search and reading interface are pretty subpar. I recommend the authors look at Catena (app) and Hallow (app) for more engaging interfaces and features.
