Plant Nanny combines health with fun to remind you to drink water regularly.
The cute plant keeps you company every day by living in your phone.
I have been using PlantNanny for two years and have a love hate relationship with it. I love using it to track water intake and the plants really are so cute. It is a great concept and would be amazing with a few tweaks.
One of the main issues I am having right now is that after my phone crashed, I was unable to retrieve two years of plants in my garden and thousands of seeds I had saved (even though all my achievements were saved none of my plants or seeds were). When I started over two months ago, I just figured it is what it is. Since then I’ve finished five plants, paid for a bag of seeds and for the ad cleaner (the seeds were purchased an hour ago). I just logged in to track my water and received an error message which reset my game again without warning and now once again I am unable to retrieve my purchases or plants.
Add to this the fact that the game hasn’t had new updates in three years, and there is no way to contact anyone from the company, I’m done. I’m giving up and will track my water some other more boring way. Goodbye Cactus and Morning Ghost, you were my favorites.

Honestly I love PlantNanny! There are a few thing I would change though. For example, I don’t like how you are only offered 3 plants before you have to spend money on seeds or wait a few weeks until you collect enough to buy a new plant. I have all the plant that this game offers planted already and I’m ready to get a new plant but the game doesn’t give you enough seeds to buy one. After I grew the last free plant I was willing to spend some seeds to get a new plant but I looked and most of the plants are over 200 seeds unless you want to get one that you already have and I think the game motivates me to drink more water so I can level up my plants and see the way they will look fully grown. The fun is taken away after you get all the free ones because if you don’t want to spend real money or wait until you collect over 200 seeds you are stuck with the same boring plants. Not to mention in the time it took me to grow all 3 plants and wait about a month afterwards to try to collect seeds, in total at the moment I only have 11 seeds! I suggest you either offer more free plants, lower the price for another plant, or give more seeds otherwise this game isn’t worth downloading.
Extreme water demands

I am actually looking for an app that will remind me to take a drink, not drink whole cups (if I was drinking whole cups a day I wouldn’t need an app! I can’t even drink one cup in a day!!) it tells me to drink WAY more water than anyone should ever drink. It says I should drink 24 8oz cups of water a day!! I’m pretty sure that would kill a person!! PlantNanny isn’t very easy to personalize. On some of the others I can make the reminders every 15 mins or so, but I would rather it be 5 mins (since I’m using it to remind me to take a drink, not drink a cup!) I don’t like that this one doesn’t connect to my Apple Watch so I don’t get any of the reminders even when it does do them. Instead I get a dead looking plant when I go in and it just makes me sad. In the almost week I’ve had it the plant “leveled up” once. Now I’m stressed out because I can’t level it up. It just lays there half dead. (Because I never have a reminder to drink water :() the only think I like about PlantNanny at all is that the plant is cute. That’s the only reason I’ve kept it at all.
Fun and cute but...

PlantNanny is fun and cute, but the reminders are too easy to ignore. Also, it encourages people to drink way too much water, which is DANGEROUS. A sedentary person only needs to drink 64 ounces of water per day, and if they need more to match half their body weight, they can get it from food. There is no reason that a sedentary person should need to drink 5 32-ounce bottles (160 oz.) of water in a day. There’s no way to manually adjust the water intake goals to meet individual needs, either. Yes, I can go into settings and change my bodyweight, my activity level, etc. but the goals are a broadly (inaccurate) locked-in value for each setting. I weigh 190 pounds and if I set my activity level at sedentary, it says I should be drinking 96 ounces of water per day. If I reduce my weight to 150 pounds, it says the same thing. So really PlantNanny is ONLY a game and should not be taken seriously as a water-minder. I might change my rating to 5 stars if these issues are addressed.
I was skeptical about the idea of a virtual plant incentivizing me to drink more water, but it has worked pretty well for me. I like how easy it is to log a drink of water, as well as how it has so many different options for plants. One feature I do wish PlantNanny would implement is having reminders that actually reflect how much I’ve water I’ve had that day. On days where I’m already pretty hydrated, I don’t really need any reminders on my at all phone. However, if it’s afternoon or evening and I haven’t logged any water that day, it would be nice to get a reminder just for that instead of a generic message every 2/4/6 hours that I usually ignore. I also wish PlantNanny would stop telling me that it’s unhealthy to drink more than one glass of water in a row. While I understand that this is true, this reminder really isn’t relevant for me. When I log multiple glasses in rapid succession it’s usually because I drank the water earlier and forgot to log it, not that I’m trying to drink my body weight in liquid all at once. Overall, though, this is a very useful app. It’s helped me a lot.
No tutorial & seeds glitch

Love the set up, it's simple & easy to use, you just have to remember to log your water (which you can set it up to help you with that too). Love the customization. More of a tutorial would be nice too; at the beginning it took me a bit to figure out the mechanics. Seeds are very slow at the beginning but as you get a few plants into the game it starts to pick up. I have 5 plants left until i have planted them all (with the exception of 2 that i have to play another game to unlock). At this point, i have all but 2 pots unlocked. The only thing that i have noticed is a glitch on PlantNanny is that it doesn't collect your daily seeds from your plants sometimes. You will think you got them all, but sometimes it won't give it to you & you won't realize it until you come back later. It always resets if it doesn't give it to you so you can collect it any time, but it glitches from time to time & doesn't give you the seeds.
Nice graphics, irritating glitches

Whilst the developers are really pushing plant nanny 2, I find this, the original plant nanny to be much better. I prefer the graphics and the animations for each of the plants. The idea is fun. You water the plants by logging the number of cups of water you drink each day. If you don’t drink enough water, your plant becomes sad, droops and may even wither away. The plant grows and at some point has ingested enough water to be moved outside (to the garden). Thereafter it gives you seeds that you can collect and use towards buying new plants, pots, and background scenes. I have been using the plant nanny for a while. Unfortunately, PlantNanny will no longer let me “buy” any new pots or scenes. Although trying repeatedly, the purchases do not download. Developers, please fix this. I have no intention of changing to plant nanny 2, and would appreciate the opportunity to keep using this current app, instead of having to look for an alternate water log.

I really is app because the cute little plant is just really motivating. Seeing it grow makes me see some sort of result although I might not feel or see the result in my body yet I can tell that if this little plant is growing from the amount I intake then something good must be happening.
I also wish the notification didn’t go off when I’m supposed to refill my water bottle I think it would be a good idea to add a little timer in the shape of a water bottle of your choosing because that would help me understand how much I’m actually supposed to consume for the two+ hours in between my notifs. Because I often find myself chugging water everytime the notification reminds me.
And one thing I wish developers would add is a cute little noise for the notification. The one that’s already there sounds a lot like other notification noise, I wish it was a little jingle or two word phrase that would go off when I need to refill my water.
Fun Reminder to Hydrate

I’m pretty much a dried out sad little plant myself, so this is a great way to water myself and my virtu-plant. The reminders that pop up periodically on my phone help me to take another swig of water. It’s also fun for my tiny human to corral me into the kitchen and fill up 8oz to chug so he can water the plant. I’ve already killed one, but so far my replacement seems okay! (My bladder will thank me eventually, I’m sure, but it’s pretty annoyed with the frequent bathroom breaks as of late!).
The only reason I opted for 4 and not 5 is because I found it a bit confusing to navigate and find more detailed info. I’m still working on understanding all of the options. Also, I can’t get rid of these darn notification numbers on the menu icon. Not the worst but it’s a quirk of mine.
Overall, I’m enjoying PlantNanny . My kid is enjoying pestering me about drinking more water, and I’m (for the most part) keeping a freaking adorable sentient? plant alive.
I like PlantNanny, and it’s been really helpful with reminding me to drink, but I think there is a major flaw with PlantNanny - it switches to the next day at midnight, and if you happen to miss the time to log your intake, you can’t go back and update it. I understand for gameplay that can cause some issues, but I think you should either allow for updating the amount for the previous day at least, or allow the user to specify the reset time (maybe instead of midnight they could chose up to 4 am). It would be helpful for social people who are out and don’t want to be rude when with friends or family to allow them to adjust it when they get home.
Also, please allow more customization with the reminder times.
Other than that, the character is cute, and I love the reminder notifications. Would be a 5 Star if they gave us more control and options.
Like a Water Tamagotchi

Imagine a Tamagotchi that’s lower maintenance, that runs solely on water. It’s made drinking enough water fun and easy to keep track. As your garden progresses, you also get to go outside and harvest seeds (they’re game currency) daily, which is strangely satisfying too. Tip: pay the little fee to remove the intrusive ads to make it more pleasant, but run the commercials daily for an 8 seed bonus. It’s not really worth purchasing seeds or water of life, and the developers are still profiting from the commercials. (Note: I actually tried to purchase seeds and had an error that ended up needing Apple to grant a refund for them, undelivered. I wonder how much abandonware PlantNanny is?)
Your plants have cute personalities too, so I’ve found it to be a nice temporary digital winter window companion to fill in for the little Brown Anole that lives in my window (real) during the warmer months.
I was wary in the beginning, but have grown to really enjoy this.
This saved me

PlantNanny has changed my life so drastically for the better. I’m a very active human and do lots of time consuming sports and activities that tend to ware me out. From long hours at basketball to even longer hours at track, volleyball, swimming and not to mention all the homework I have on top of it I never ever think about just grabbing water. Sure I carry around my water bottle from sport to sport but I never just take a second before, after, or during to just take a drink you know. But with PlantNanny it all changed. I’m a happy vegan and plants are my everything so there is no way I’m going to let mine die even if it is virtual. I think PlantNanny is very good at reminding you to drink water because it asks you to feed your plant but you can’t do that until you drink the amount of Water given for your custom selection. Honestly since water makes up most of you body weight and keeps you alive so not drinking it you can dehydrate and you know... so PlantNanny saved me💦😉
Love the app!

I love PlantNanny! I use it every single day. PlantNanny has gotten me to consistently drink water and be conscious of my hydration. I’ve had PlantNanny for many weeks now and have built up quite the garden, which leads to my only pet peeve; the seeds! The amount of plants I now have makes harvesting seeds an incredibly tedious task. It takes me almost a full 2 minutes to sit and harvest each seed individually from each plant, it’s gotten to the point where some days I just don’t even do it. I wish there was a collect all seeds feature or something; same with when it comes time to plant a new plant, flipping through the different plants/ pots; if you accidentally click too fast and skip over one you have to cycle all the way through them again just to get to the one you skipped! Minor annoyances but PlantNanny really becomes something you use daily so the small pet peeves add up. Either way excellent and enjoyable app. Would highly recommend.

100% THE best self care app out there . i never used to drink my water unless i started to get a headache from dehydration but using PlantNanny i always get straight to it and stay hydrated . and i think the fact that i’m taking care of a little adorable plant makes it so much more enjoyable because you get to watch it grow along with your health . i used to be so dehydrated to the point where my face was getting dry and more acne “infested” , but then after about a week of using PlantNanny and keeping up with my water in take more , my skin is now more glowing and it’s really starting to clear up . drinking water also gives me more energy throughout the day so i really thank PlantNanny for staying on me about it . you should 1000% get PlantNanny ! it’s free to use as well ! you should definitely take that to your own advantage !! GET PlantNanny YALL ITS THE BEST THING EVER !!!!
For the last 20-25 years, I have had a soda addiction...as in 2-3 16 oz sodas per day. I downloaded PlantNanny in the hopes of swapping my sodas for water. I’ve tried many times to kick the soda habit, but failed miserably after 2-3 days. Since downloading PlantNanny 11 days ago, I have consumed 2 1/2 cans of soda. Drinking water to keep my plant happy has made all the difference in the world. I feel better, and for the most part, don’t miss sodas at all. There are a few hiccups...took me a while to figure out how PlantNanny works...and I made the mistake of downloading PlantNanny late one night...and so did not make my daily target. At times, I am a night owl, but PlantNanny forces me to consume the day’s water before midnight. I also wish there was a way to go back and “update” a day when I have forgotten to add in all the cups. Other than that, great app!
