Terrible

Just purchased Retromatic20 and could not figure out how to get my photo to show up to add filters. The draw around photo step was a problem. After drawing around the photo which is very difficult, it colors in the whole photo I want to edit. Also, you cannot get to the 2nd page if you just want a background, you must draw around the uploaded photo before the arrow appears. Looked for a how to guide but nothing in Retromatic20 .
Sound option?

by Gregh1981
If there is a way to turn off the sound in Retromatic20, I'm not finding it. How annoying having to listen to that beep every time u go to do something!! I will rate it 5 stars when u add in that option. I like to listen to music while I'm editing and this is crazy! It overrides and shuts off your music. An app like this should not be doing that.
Also, it would be awesome if we could add in and apply filters to our own background images. Maybe allow us to make our own stamps as well? That would be awesome. I would love it. Anyway, I just got your app and if u get us a sound option, I will probably promote u guys pretty heavy. That's how much I think I'm going to enjoy using this thing. Thanks for a great app. #retromatic
Oh, u should allow us to store cut outs in a cut out gallery or something. So we can use them later on in other projects and not have to cut them out again.

Whenever I try to use a sticker and write my own stuff it doesnβt work...can you fix it please. I love Retromatic20 , gave three stars because of that problem, besides that I love the application.... one of the best out there.

The idea is great but in truth Retromatic20 is very limited. You can add cut n slice on multiple layers but it is lacking in control. For example you can not adjust opacity for any of the layers just send back/front. Color options are limited. I understand it is going for a retro look/feel but a few more controls and it would be killer. As it is..i could def live without it. Really, if you are like me and you have a folder of all your "artistic" photo assets then you can do the same thing and alot more in other programs that support layer editing. Its not the $2 that gets me. Its the $100s ive spent on x50 $2 apps just like this that give you 2 potato chips out if the whole bag. Yeah...
Recent updates have improved Retromatic20 tremendously. The new eraser and automatic edge detection features make masking your subject much easier to produce better results. However, there is still room for improvement, for instance although quite a few effects are available, they cannot be adjusted for brightness, contrast, etc., meaning most photos will not render anything like the pictured examples.
Retromatic20 would still benefit from more backgrounds, automatic layouts or complete predefined templates, and the ability to import multiple camera roll images into the composition. But, with the right source photos and a bit of manual creativity, some impressive results can be obtained.
11/28: Better. 11/26: Good.

11/28: Great update, and just two days after my previous review. Update addressed most of the items I previously listed...nice!
*The ability to DUPLICATE the extracted image would be nice.
11/26: This is a great 1.0 release got an app however, I'd like to see the final images saved at a higher resolution as well as the ability to erase an area during the image extracting process rather than an UNDO button. It would also be nice to see more wallpapers or the ability to import wallpapers, more ornaments or in-app purchase of more ornament packs & a larger library of text input options.
Retro is Groovy

Dropped everything to rush here to promote Retromatic20. I'll write a more in-depth review for the website but I must say Retromatic20 had me at the icon. Retro in style.
Yes, the first step to draw the outline around your image is a little clunky (an eraser and a smoother edge-detection for starters) but the detail of Retromatic20 is amazing.
Gorgeous custom filters are worth the price by themselves (if you are a filterholic, these will have you swooning). Add in the delicious badges (long press to edit the wording) and flourishes, along with the retro-fab backgrounds and text with loads of fonts (all of which have multiple color options) and the groove is on.
Good 1.0! Wish it had a 'Refine Edges'

Works smoothly and has good variety, but could use some more attention to selection refining.
Pros:
β’ Works smoothly even on an iPhone 4 β’ Ingenious hold-to-start-drawing delay, so you can drag with one finger and not accidentally start selection. β’ Has a HUGE number of fonts for your average image fiddling app. β’ Pinch zoom during select and pinch resize with image elements. β’ Good color schemes; I'm genuinely glad they're not customizable - you'd spend forever trying to pick something retro. β’ Can send element layers forward and backward. β’ Good selection of badges, backgrounds, and other elements. (Could still use a couple more to round out the retro look, like rays or stripes.) β’ Elements resize well. (But they're not pure vector, so you'll see some degradation at sizes you shouldn't be using anyway.) β’ Tutorial only shows up twice and then GOES AWAY without having to turn it off manually through settings! \o/
Cons:
β’ Edge detection is only decent, and sometimes gets part of the background. β’ No eraser during selection, which means your only option is to zoom in and be more careful. β’ Doesn't seem to allow hollows, so gaps inside the subject (e.g. crooked elbow) aren't transparent.

Don't blame Retromatic20 if you can't be creative. Retromatic20 isn't illustrator or photoshop but it makes it even easier to create great collages. If you're an artist and have tried different apps to put together cool compositions but can't seem to find anything, look no further. This creators of Retromatic20 knew what they were doing! If I could give it any critique I would say an improved font selection and an ability to save and edit images in-app would make it even more great. Thanks for creating this dope app!
I like the easy to use masking and sticker functions on retromatic. The cut-outs looks good without the ragged edges of other similar apps, and the effects are not as generic. The overall result are photos that look very quirky, retro and hipster-y as the title suggests. Instabuy, people!
Just a note to the debs, if Retromatic20 can be updated to current iPhone 6 plus screen resolution and maybe a stretch, extension support on iOS 8, it will become many people favorite photo edit app. Thanks!
So hard to say goodbye!

Retromatic has been a trusty pal for years. Iβve used it for countless reasons β whether itβs designing a show poster, semi-serious photo collages, or just digitally putting a cowboy outfit onto my dog. But ALAS, itβs no longer compatible w the current OS? That is so sad! How I wish you all would update Retromatic20 . Iβve so far found no substitute. With hopeful and humble thanks...
Wonderful app - such a shame its days are numbered

I canβt believe this. There is literally no substitute for Retromatic20. Zillions of βgraphic editing@ apps that offer a bunch of unoriginal insipid features no one needs and everyone already has... yet this gem is neither available on iPad nor will it be available too much longer on iPhone by the looks of it. I would easily have paid $10 for something as useful and original as this to remain available
Well done, and too much fun!

OK, there is room to grow, because this is too great an app to be static, and because the whole execution of the concept is so well done, that I cannot imagine the creators aren't still coming up with more ideas, at this very moment.
I made my living as a designer, painter, art director, and all I can say is HOLY COW, this is brilliant, original, and delicious!
I would like to believe that all the years I have been training my eyes have been worth something, and it breaks my own rules to buy an app that stylizes so strongly... however... really, this is a wonder!
Surprising variations are possible with great options, perfect color choices, and text tools. Results are similar to letterpress in feeling, This won't replace any apps you already have: this is a whole new point of view.
I found Retromatic20, today. It is terrific straight out of the box, or pulled through other art/photo apps. The UI is straightforward. I found myself discovering possibilities, while muttering under my breath, "Good job!"
It would be useful to be able to save and/or import separate transparent layers. A mask erasing tool would be good. More of everything here would be fabulous, but really, it is perfectly smashing, as is. I bow in respect, to the developers for their originality, brilliant design sense, and refreshing whimsy. Bravo! Forge onwards! I can't wait to see what you think of next!
Adore and recommend

The most intelligently organized user interface I have ever encountered in a photo collaging app. The "gallery" link to see what others have created is inspiring. Love how you can edit the text of the included graphic elements (that was a surprise). Silhouetting is fairly automated (closed shapes are filled in for you). Love how loose silhouetting (if you're feeling lazy at this step) is completely appropriate in this "retro style."
Would have been perfect if it was available for HD (iPad use - but it does scale nicely); if you could control the opacity of the elements; and if you could start without having to select/modify a photo (for those last minute, "too lazy to find a photo but want to make a retro birthday card to post on Facebook" scenarios).
Would purchase more addons if they were available. Perhaps more music genre inspired sets... Like punk, ska... and other holidays (as xmas was a month ago - dont need it now)
When will you update the iPad version to 64 bit? It is far more useful on that device.
