Great Publication. Lousy App

Proving once again that competent tech geeks work for Google, not conservative publishers operating on a shoe string, the people behind the Weekly Standard app have provided the worst possible smart phone interface for their magazine. To call WashingtonExaminerDigital buggy, glitchy or finicky would imply that it sometimes works. As of this writing, my iOS subscription gives me access to the April 2 issue, which is at least 6 issues behind. Trying to update my subscription produces this message: “Your subscription to the Oklahoman is current and will renew on December 31, 1969.” I am not making this up.

A call to subscription services resulted in a nice lady reading to me over the phone a mile-long URL link for a 90-day digital subscription. As you may have guessed, the requested URL was not found. So no app, no access, no help, and I paid something like $60 for the annual subscription. This makes Trump University look like a bargain.

Still broken, what a shame a great magazine has such a poor app

The content of this publication is first rate.

WashingtonExaminerDigital is so badly executed it should be executed.

Issues failed to load. Then they fixed that problem but now when you try to read articles they don’t scroll properly.

Bugs and crashes are so common with WashingtonExaminerDigital you could use it as a training tool for how not to make an app.

I really hate writing this review because I’ve been a subscriber since this magazine started many years ago. Such a terrible shame that no one at the publisher cares about the quality of WashingtonExaminerDigital .

I’m running a 2016 model of the iPad Pro 9.6 with all the latest updates. So it should run properly if they were keeping up to date on Apple’s developer standards. Since WashingtonExaminerDigital has been broken for months and through a full update earlier this month, they clearly just don’t have the competence to manage an app.

For your own sanity, stick to the print version of this fine magazine.

Shoot the developer

WashingtonExaminerDigital stinks. It has never been good, but isn’t working at all now. It hasn’t downloaded a new issue this month, which I paid for. Deleting and reinstalling doesn’t help. Deleting, reinstalling, and logging in as an existing subscriber reveals the message that my subscription to The Oklahoman is good until 1969. Yay for me.

Pitiful, pitiful, pitiful.

May 24 update. Still not working. This kind of nonsense and indifference to readers has happened before, but not usually this long. I’ve been a reader since the mag’s first year. Pains me, but I’ve already cancelled automatic renewal.

App Under Construction

I have not received a magazine for four weeks. Although I do have a notification in the Select Issue screen that says “Your subscription to The Oklahoman is current. It will automatically renew on Wednesday, December 31, 1969.” As there is no easy way to find how to get help I called up the subscription department and they indicated they were aware of the problem and many other digital subscribers are having the same issue, as WashingtonExaminerDigital is under construction. What poor planning or incompetence.

The Weekly Standard App does not work

After subscribing to WashingtonExaminerDigital from iPad, I was able to access the magazine. After some update to IOS, I am unable to access any of the issues. After Several emails, and voice contacts, the Weekly Standard customer support and webmaster have been unable to solve the problem. They seem to have no clue about WashingtonExaminerDigital .

If I had to do it over again, I subscribe through the Weekly Standard web site rather than through iTunes.

Finally! An update

Updated app has been working beautifully since early July. Log in details are recognized, I can download and read stories later plus the articles are displayed in a much more friendly way on my phone.

Improved with 3.0 update

Significant improvements have been made from prior iterations (almost 2 years ago!). Highly recommended now.

Broken

WashingtonExaminerDigital has not been updated since the April 2nd issue and I am notified that my subscription is current until 1969.

It’s been kind of charming for a conservative magazine to be technically challenged, but the charm wears off. I contacted the magazine directly, but the reply claimed that there is an Apple problem. Not a good excuse for a company trying to sell a magazine.

One star only because I couldn’t give it a zero.

Updated App Does Not Work

The updated Weekly Standard app does not work any better than the previous version, which means it does not work at all. The PageSuite technical support people do not seem to be at all interested in fixing this.

Some things should just not be purchased through iTunes. This includes the Weekly Standard.

Terrible support

I paid for a full year subscription the beginning of this year. In April WashingtonExaminerDigital stopped working and new issues wouldn’t download. Two months later the problem persists. When I call the magazine they blame Apple, and when I call Apple they blame the magazine. No one will refund my money! It doesn’t get any worse than that!

Unable to download new issues

The last issue I have been able to download is the April 2, 2018, issue with John Kasicki on the cover. I deleted it, then reinstalled WashingtonExaminerDigital with the hope that that would fix the problem, but it did not. This is not the first time I’ve had problems downloading new issues.

Still broken and they took my money

I have been a reading the Weekly Standard since it launched and on my iPad for three years until it stoped working. I paid for a yearly subscription but no new issues have loaded since April. They were no help when I called. Don’t waste your money on the digital version.

Can not log in

WashingtonExaminerDigital ’s log-in jumps around when one attempts to log in! Impossible! I’m a print & digital subscriber, and desperately want to use WashingtonExaminerDigital as well. I am disgusted with WEX technology. Do not subscribe unless you are happy with print only.

App isn't on par with other magazines

Love the magazine but WashingtonExaminerDigital needs a lot of work. I want to read a magazine like a magazine. Not a tablet of contents that looks like a webpage. You can't just browse the magazine, you have to go form the table of contents to story back to table of contents back to next story.

Great Magazine, Unreliable App

I LOVE this magazine and am a digital only subscriber. WashingtonExaminerDigital worked well up until December 2014. But twice this month I was not able to download the latest edition on either my iPhone or iPad. They fixed it once, but it's happening again.

Working OK on an iPad Pro

You have to put text size at the minimum, and it's not showing all the graphics, but it's usable.

Can’t log on

Accidentally logged off. Can’t log on because app says my info is incorrect. Subscription services said I had to log via the website first and then thru WashingtonExaminerDigital . No luck. Grrr.

By

Very buggy

The latest issue won't display at all after it indicates that it has downloaded. Don't give up your hard copy subscription yet.

By

Pathetic App

Often cannot download magazines ..when I do download a magazine I have been charged at least double the listed price with no warning. I am deleting WashingtonExaminerDigital now

App won't open

Thought I'd add a conservative opinion app to get a different POV than my own but when I try to open WashingtonExaminerDigital to access the content nothing happens. Now I feel ripped off. Caveat emptor.
