Pretty useless for runners...

I have a huge library of about 2500 songs. PaceDJ can only come up with about 20 songs that it can BPM adjust to a 160 bpm pace... even though ALOT of my songs are very close. I even adjusted the ranges as far as they can go in the settings. I also bought the premium service because without it, it will only let you listen to about one or two songs before a commercial comes up and you to have to tap a button on the screen... stupid for this to occur in the middle of a run. Don’t bother with PaceDJ!

tried the subscription

since there was no way to do some of the things i wanted... problem being that when the subscription renews PaceDJ doesn’t pick that up so i can’t so what i need to. i don’t notice there is a problem until i’m using PaceDJ ... and it won’t restore to a subscription version event when i use the in app restore. the only way i can get it running as expected is to delete it (and all of the data with PaceDJ ) and reinstall...

i took a chance with the subscription guys but every time it renews i lose a day on it because i have to redo it when I'm at home - or , basically, not the gym or running.

i gave you a chance here, at your suggestion, by subscribing even after you took away the basic functionality. i just deleted it again so that i can reinstall and use it and not be reminded about what was removed. please fix your app and how it applies subscriptions. id like to be able to use PaceDJ and not have to tweak with it all the time. it’s a decent app but, good god, do you guys ever use your own software in the real world?

correction, even after reinstalling this time it still tells me to get a premium subscription...

Ripped and jipped

I paid for PaceDJ and now I get an automatic upgrade of PaceDJ which now requires a subscription? I feel ripped off and Apple’s upgrade system isn’t helping, but what does Apple care? they make more money also. I’m turning off automatic upgrades so some of this nonsense can stop. A lot of my good old apps no longer work, and many are turning to subscription or get plastered with ads, even if you paid for them.

Disappointing App

I have tried over and over to get PaceDJ to play from my Apple Music library and it refuses to. I have selected entire library (which is entirely downloaded to my iPhone) as well as creating playlists specifically for use with PaceDJ. The only music it will play is the 4 albums that I have purchase through ITunes. PaceDJ clearly does not work with anything but iTunes music. Very disappointed!!!

App Knee Capped in iOS 13

I used to use PaceDJ religiously last year, when it apparently worked fine on iOS 12. All songs got scanned, and my playlists were always at least 50 songs long. Now under iOS 13, PaceDJ fails to scan my music library about half way through and it can only play a dozen songs. All of my music is local to my device and I’ve already uninstalled and reinstalled PaceDJ . Shame.

Doesn't work

At first it wouldn't play a song at all, until I deleted and reinstalled it. Then after reinstalling, it would only play one song over and over. I turned off "BPM shift" and that caused it to play one additional song, but still no more than those two. My song library contains at least a dozen songs within three BPM of my target (151), so there's no good reason for it to just be playing those two songs over and over. It's just broken.

Used to be pretty good but now adds are disruptive.

I’ve used this for a few years. It was decent. The thing seemed to limit the songs it played to a few, even though I’m sure of the thousands of songs I have downloaded to my phone, there are more than 30 or so at my target BPM, but I made do.

Now, I can’t use it. This new update causes an add to interrupt the music with basically every skip. Then you gotta look down and hit a button with sweaty fingers to get it back to music.

It’s more annoying than its worth, and I’m done with PaceDJ until it changes.

Premium works same as free

The only difference now is, there is no ad that pops up. My music still stops after about every 2 songs and I have to unlock my phone, go into PaceDJ , hit the stop button (even though no music is playing), discard workout, restart music, all while trying to keep my pace up. Tell me again, why am I paying for a subscription??

Great App but Ads hurt its usefulness

New Review:
Obviously PaceDJ was better before the ads but it still does what’s intended. I’ve merely adjusted my running to make it work. Due to an issue with PaceDJ I had to shuffle all my songs which... wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be. Still PaceDJ does exactly what you’d expect & has a ton of options available.

Original review:
I’ve posted on FB, sent a tweet, & messaged the Dev through their website. Version 2.3.1 & 2.3.2 crash upon opening on an iPhone 11 Pro on iOS 13.1.3.

I even uninstalled PaceDJ & then it worked... temporarily. After force closing PaceDJ after it reuploaded my song list the crashing returned. Crashes on opening!

Edit 1: In response to the developer I’ve used the “contact us” form on their website to send more detailed information. I cannot enable or send a log as PaceDJ ALWAYS crashes upon opening it.

Edit 2: I did another uninstall & rebooted the phone, then reinstalled, opened PaceDJ , got my tempo uploaded & then closed PaceDJ . Crashing upon opening returned. I rebooted my phone a second time... it works! Never did get a response from the developer via email.

Won’t buy subscription for app I already bought

Edit:
I also notice that the forward skip button seems to be cut off in PaceDJ (on my iPhone 6). A bit annoying since PaceDJ also doesn’t seem to work with iOS audio controls. I can work around this using a Bluetooth device, but it’s an annoying bug, especially if users are being asked to pay for a subscription.

Original:
For a few years, this app has been my go-to app for listening to music on my runs and walks. I have tried other similar apps but kept coming back because I appreciated being able to set and correct BPMs for songs saved to my phone.

I originally downloaded a free version of PaceDJ and then downloaded the paid version to get premium features (removing ads, interval training). About a year ago, the free version of PaceDJ was removed or changed to paid.

Now developers are switching PaceDJ to a subscription model. That’s a fine way to get revenue from new users. But PaceDJ is now set up so that people who previously paid for PaceDJ don’t have access to features they paid for. Not a great business practice.

Please provide some means for legacy users to access features they paid for.

Don’t mind paying......

I’m going to upgrade to premium and I don’t mind paying as long as you support PaceDJ properly now. I feel it’s been very buggy in the past. Ignoring loads of my music that it should be able to shift. So it will play 3 songs from a 200 song playlist.
So I will pay and try it out. But I will cancel if it’s not supported properly. AirPod support has been less than great too. Will this be addressed? Or has it been addressed in this version?
Hoping I can come back and give you 5 stars.
Thanks.

Good but not great!!

I absolutely love the concept of PaceDJ because I believe whole heartedly in running to a cadence. However there are still issues with PaceDJ. I've noticed that when I change playlists on PaceDJ it still holds on to songs from the previous playlist. I literally have to delete and re-download PaceDJ just to clear it. The next problem is that I would like a wider range on the BPM shifting, something closer to 30 +/-

So about that subscription.

I downloaded a paid version of PaceDJ a good while ago. At least a year. It wasn’t perfect, but usually did what I needed it to do. Today I launch it to discover there is a subscription. Ok. Sure. 99 cents a month isn’t that bad. But I can’t seem to activate it?! I’d consider giving it a try but... I can’t.

On top of that the free version seems to play the same songs. In the same order even though shuffle is on.

Look. I like PaceDJ . And I’d consider a subscription but 8 need to be able to purchase one first! And please tell me that there will be some sort of 1 month trial for legacy members? I feel a little cheated paying for something and suddenly not having the same functionality without warning.

I’ll check back in a week. If I still can’t subscribe I’ll be looking for a new service and a new app.

Cool App... but wish it could shuffle songs

Overall, I really like PaceDJ and would recommend it to others. I use it when I run. I love that you can change the BPM, so you can set it to the pace you are actually running, or a higher or lower pace, if you want. The only downside is that it seems to play the songs in the same order every time, which becomes predictable. Also, it seems to play all of the songs from the same album together. If only it could shuffle the songs and play them in random order. That would be great.

Works again ! Handles large music databases

The new update now works again, making this the single best app for music selection by pace, especially with large databases. If you are a DJ or insist on great precision, there are other apps but for the mainstream, this is the best I've found. FMJog works as well, but that app stops when in background, not an issue for this app.

Crashed after iOS update

Used to be the best thing since sliced bread. Did exactly what it said. Crashed recently after this last iOS update, so it can no longer change the pace of songs. It’s a one of a kind app. Fingers crossed for a quick update to fix the bug!!! I can’t run without it!!!!

Customizable and easy to use

I love how smart PaceDJ is and how I can keep my motivation high by running to the music in my own library. I also love how it finds songs that I’ve not listened to in a while. A great app for runners wanting to change the routine a bit!

Great tool to improve athletic workouts!

this app is a great app to help runners and athletes improve their performance. Pace and tempo are so critical to maximizing workouts, and this app allows you to customize and fine-tune your workout through your favorite tunes. Additionally, this app can handle a huge database of music. I highly recommend!!!

WAY BETTER THAN THE COMPETITION

This is the best app in PaceDJ Store for athletes who want a simple, customizable way to use your own music to set the pace of their workouts. I’ve tried WeaveRun and RockMyRun and they don’t compare. With a little tweaking to improve control integration with Bluetooth, Bluetooth his app will earn six stars with me. Thanks for a great workout tool!

Great app

This is a great app and definitely worth the small monthly price if you work out regularly. It makes a big difference for me when on the treadmill or elliptical— much less boring and easier to keep my pace. I had some issues initially, but the developers were extremely attentive and helpful and fixed all the bugs. Now it is very smooth.
