New upgraded - Not sure I’m a fan anymore

I have been a pocket Bible user since the PalmPilot days. It has always been my go to app for my iPhone. I’m struggling getting used to the new version. I miss that I can no longer automatically log into the website from within PocketBibleBibleStudyApp . Now I have to look up my user ID and password somewhere. Hope I have it in an old email. But this morning I was really getting into my study and the Lord was speaking to me and I wanted to look up the Greek/Hebrew for the word study I was doing. I got distracted with the disappointment that my NASB with Strongs numbers no longer works. I no longer have the ability to click on the word and see the Greek and Hebrew. I’m so disappointed and distracted this morning. I’m having to revert to the Bible hub app. Frustrated.

Back button issues

I have used PocketBible since my Palm Pilot days. While I am still getting used to version 4, I have discovered that my back button doesn’t take me back. For instance, I have three tabs, each with a different book, say Psalms, Luke, and Galatians. I click on a link in Galatians that takes me to a verse in Genesis, in the same pane. I then click the back button to go back to Galatians but it takes me to where I am in Luke. I now have two panes in Luke and have to manually go to where I was in Galatians.
Thanks for any help.

Still love this app

You need to bring back the touch zones. The two and three-finger swipe gestures are not very user friendly for people with arthritis. If I want to work with my iPad propped up and using external keyboard, which I often do, I either have to contort my wrist or rotate my device at an angle. And the device is having a hard time distinguishing between an up/down scroll and a left/right swipe — again because of the angle of my device in relation to the angle of my hand.

Apart from that, I contacted their app support about something else and they were great about replying promptly and professionally.

This is why I’m a loyal user of PocketBible

I have used various versions of PocketBibleBibleStudyApp since the Palm Pilot days of the 1990s. I have had continual access to the NIV bible translation that I bought then through all of the different platforms and upgrades, along with dozens of other translations and commentaries. This is a tool that I have used weekly, usually daily, for about 20 years. I can’t say that about too many other apps.

The original developer is still leading the charge. He is creative, innovative, and knows his stuff. He thinks carefully about how people use the software, and is regularly making helpful improvements that accelerate our study of the Word.

One of my favorite features of PocketBible is the personal notes, bookmarks and highlights. Notes that I added to a verse while in seminary in the 1990s are still there today, helping me to see how God has continually been working in my life.

Now I have literally 5000 of these personal notations that give PocketBibleBibleStudyApp the feel of my very own well-worn print Bible with lots of underlining, highlighting and notes scribbled in the margins. Plus, it’s all always available on all my devices! With this latest update, I can easily (and quickly) search through these notes (e.g. search “barnacles” to find that C.H. Sturgeon illustration I added many years ago).

This is why I’m a loyal user of PocketBible.

Long time user, love the recent changes!

I love PocketBibleBibleStudyApp! Every time i show it to folks at our Bible study, they are jealous! I admit, I have purchased all of the options that I can and lots of books so it makes it look and work great! I also use it on an iPad with a keyboard, so it works fantastic there.

The new features are awesome! I love the one-finger scrolling and the two-finger chapter scrolling! More recently, I have started using a keyboard with a touch pad. The scrolling still works great!

For Bible study, PocketBibleBibleStudyApp can’t be beat! I do use “The Bible” app for my daily reading, but if I want to “study” the Bible, PocketBibleBibleStudyApp is it! I also use it in church — I can see several versions at once along with the Greek. In split screen mode, I can take notes on one side and have this incredible Bible app on the other. Multi-pane is so helpful. Having commentaries and other resources at your fingertips is great.

Thanks for your hard work! I can’t recommend anything more than PocketBibleBibleStudyApp. Absolutely love it!

Horrible...fixed

I am am impressed. Not only did i get a direct response, i got acknowledgement that others had the same complaints. Presto, here’s a fix. Still seems like version 4 fixed things that weren’t broke, but I am not the only customer here. Disregard previous curmudgeonly comments. —“How do i get the old version back? The old search results and swiping up/down to change books were the tools i found most effective. The new system is so time consuming I think I need to go app shopping again.”

The Bible App I use as my Bible

I just read a review by someone who has been using PocketBibleBibleStudyApp since the Palm Pilot days. I have, too. PocketBibleBibleStudyApp is my Bible. I have print copies, but I use them infrequently. This is the Bible I use in church and for my daily note-taking. The note-taking ability is superb and, when listening to a sermon or participating in a study, I am able to refer back to notes taken on those same passages in the past. I can even archive my notes as a PDF so someday my daughters may have the same benefit as if I had passed down a well-worn printed Bible. I love PocketBibleBibleStudyApp!

Great upgrade, but a few comments

Copying verses is now not as good as the previous version. It leaves too much space between sentences and renders the copying of verses as less than adequate, especially for the poetry books. I hope that is fixed since this was an important function for my study.

Got a response from Laridian that some books are designed to have spaces, especially the poetry books so this cannot change, although in previous versions of PocketBibleBibleStudyApp there were no spaces, which made copying and using verses in other apps much better. Apparently this was changed in this new version, much to my regret. I hope Laridian goes back to no spaces at some point, particularly with the NIV translation which is what I use the most.

Overall, a wonderful app that I have been using for years!

Also wish all books could be highlighted and not just bibles. Hopefully that is coming?

My Favorite

I have used PocketBible for years. Before I used it, I tried others, and from time to time, I continue to check other apps out. But this is my favorite. The features are too numerous to list, but here are a few things I like:
-Navigation options both in going to particular books and when reading
-Different fonts and font sizes
-Colors for highlighting: I like to highlight odd numbered verses in one color and even numbered in another. PocketBibleBibleStudyApp allows one to select verses that are not sequential to color the same color all at once.
-The dictionaries and commentaries are adequate. If I need to go deeper, I can always seek out other sources. But PocketBibleBibleStudyApp includes enough without taking up too much space on my tablet or phone.
I do wish there were a couple of other versions included:
-Nueva Version Viviente (Spanish)
-Common English Bible
Overall I love PocketBibleBibleStudyApp and use it almost every day.

Excellent, Powerful, Easy to Use

I have been using PocketBible for many years on my iPhone, iPad, Mac, and PC. It has an excellent and easy to use search feature and I can easily add notes and highlights that sync across platforms.

One big advantage that is has over some other software programs is that it works great even when I do not have internet access, which is common when I am on a plane or traveling overseas.

My only disappointment is that I cannot load any French Bibles (though I can get what I need in Spanish).

Consistently Good and Getting Better

I purchased most of my Bibles and books when I used the Palm Pilot (remember those) version of the program. The Bible is the Bible and never changes but the devices we use to read the Bible has changed over the years. I have appreciated Laridian giving us the ability to continue to use the Bibles and books we purchased so long ago with each new mobile device (Palm Pilot, Windows Mobile, and IOS). I currently use my iPhone and primarily my iPad Pro to read and study my Bibles and books and the new version of the software has significantly increased its usability. Nice work!

The Best Bible app!

I have been using this program since I had my PalmPilot back in the 90s. I’ve tried some of the other apps however I have not found them to be as useful and versatile as this program.
I love the ability to bookmark and highlight verses, add notes to verses, and autostudy verses.

One of the most useful features is the ability to sync my Bible to my devotional reading plan and my commentaries. This causes the commentaries to follow along with me and match whatever portion of the Bible I happen to be reading at the time. Then, there’s the tabbed panes, which allowed me to have many books open at the same time.

Some of these features are available in the Advanced Feature set which is a very minimal cost. However the basic program comes with many free books, and many of my friends have started using it as well. It seems anytime I use it in a class people start asking me which program I’m using.

Also, this developer has a buy once/own it policy. Once you buy a book or devotional through PocketBibleBibleStudyApp you own it. The books I bought when I was using a palm pilot 17 years ago........I still own! I was able to download them free when I upgraded to my iPhone and then my iPad several years later.

By far the best Bible app.

It’s everything it says it is !!

It IS everything it says it is.....and even more !
It’s a place to go to read your Bible....or read a Daily Devotional.....or to look into a Commentary or Dictionary to gain insight and understanding about what you are reading in your Bible !!!!
It’s easy to navigate and easy to learn how to navigate this Bible Study Program !! And you’re not left alone to figure it all out on your own either....there are plenty of helps and how to’s......to get you going.
The selection of Bibles....Commentaries.... Dictionaries....Devotionals....and other Study helps are top notch for the New Christian....the Seasoned Veteran....those who Teach....and those who are Pastors !!
It’s all you want it to be to help you Study God’s Word anywhere you want to....and if you’re looking for something to take along with you as Witness and Share Jesus with others....this program is just what you are looking for.
THANK YOU LARIDIAN FOR A BIBLE PROGRAM ANYONE CAN LEARN TO USE TO LEARN ABOUT JESUS AND SHARE HIM WITH A LOST AND DYING WORLD !!!!!!!
ITS EVERYTHING YOU SAID IT WOULD BE !

Love it!

I have had this product since my very first Palm Pilot. It has servived every devise since then and I still have everything I have ever purchased. The resource options or phemonenal and discounts are often offered. I love PocketBibleBibleStudyApp. It makes studying the bible so easy. I always keep three panes open so I can easily switch form the bible to study notes or to a devotional. But even swithching bible versions or study reference materials is simple. The Study function seaches everything and presents it in a comprehensive document. This little gem is hidden in PocketBibleBibleStudyApp store but now that you have found you must have it.

So much easier now

I’ve used Pocket Bible since the days of PDAs. Historically, I never really got the way PocketBibleBibleStudyApp used to page ahead by tapping in zones of the screen, so when PocketBibleBibleStudyApp updated to swipe-scroll up/down like all other iPhone apps swipe-scroll, it was fantastic.

The best thing about PocketBibleBibleStudyApp is I have access to the 1984 edition of the NIV, something I bought decades ago now. That specific version is not (easily, anyway) available anywhere else on the Internet.

I really, really appreciate the tech updates that keep PocketBibleBibleStudyApp working with the latest iOS versions. But I also appreciate that it’s not updated so frequently I’m constantly confronted with a new UI. I like the familiarity of PocketBibleBibleStudyApp.

Best Bible App

I have been using PocketBible since the Pocket PC version, and PocketBibleBibleStudyApp just keeps getting better. This latest version for iOS is no exception. The continuous scrolling combined with the ability to swipe by chapters (in the advanced feature set) is the perfect merge of the new and old navigation features.

It has taken many years, but the library of study materials I have built through Laridian over the years make this a platform that can’t be beat. Pay once for a book, own it forever on just about any platform. The way it links Strongs numbers in several version to my CWS Greek and Hebrew dictionaries puts in-depth word study just a few taps away. This is a serious tool for performing in-depth study of the scriptures and commentaries.

The jury is still out for version 4- revised

I’ll put the revision here at the top:
Thanks, Craig, for your quick response.
The look and feel are different, and I’m not as young as I used to be, so change takes work. It will take me a while to get used to the lack of the old navigation touch zones, but I’ll get it.
If I run across things I can’t do, that I used to be able to do, I’ll contact support. In the meantime, keep up the good work.

I’ve used PocketBibleBibleStudyApp ever since my palm pilot days, and I love it! However, when I opened the upgrade on my iPhone, I was surprised and not happy. It’s still a great app; now, I have to relearn how to use it. It also seems to have shifted some features I was used to to a subscription level. Bummer. This does not feel like the Craig who would respond personally when I had questions or issues.
I have spent a lot of money on bibles, commentaries, dictionaries, etc. for PocketBibleBibleStudyApp. Now I may have to pay a fee to get full use again? Maybe I’m missing something?
I’m definitely not going to upgrade my iPad yet, and compare the two versions.
Still a great app, but a “heads-up” would have been nice to all of us who have been loyal customers for years.

Love it

I love it, it’s my favorite Bible app to use. I love how many colors there are for highlighting and how you can custom label the highlights. The only thing I wish is that I could highlight individual words instead of the whole verse. I know you guys have said that it would be too hard to do that because the highlights aren’t tied to an individual translation so they have to be in a way that allows to highlight for all translations. I may be alone, but I use one main translation and all of my highlights are done in one translation anyways. Could you make it an option to highlight for just one translation so I can highlight individual word? I would even be willing to pay more for this (I already paid to for the extra features like renaming the highlights).

Still the best mobile option, even over 20 years later!

I have been using PocketBible since (I believe) the first version. I had a new PalmPilot and the first thing I did was look for Bible software. Once I found Laridian I was hooked, and have been a loyal fan since!

Over the years, and over many types of devices, PocketBible is always my go-to software when starting a study or even doing some reading. Even now that the desktop heavy hitters have made mobile apps, and I can now access the desktop libraries I’ve invested so much in over the years, I still go to PocketBible first.

There is also a free desktop app for Windows, which also works great with Wine on Linux with minimal tweaking. Keep in mind, this is a very basic app and a bit dated, but it means you still can access the resources you purchased for mobile on your PC as well.

I would love for a more modern desktop app with a little more functionality, and perhaps a wider range of resources, but I know Craig is working with a very small team and this might be beyond the core focus, but it’s not a complaint, merely a wish. Either way, PocketBible is the best iOS Bible study app you can find and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

The best Bible app!

I have been using this Bible app since it was available on a Palm Pilot! I loved it then, and it worked flawlessly on that device. When I found it on the iPhone I tried it and found it just as stable and full-featured as the previous version. I was amazed that all my book purchases from a dozen years ago came right across to the new device as well! Recently, they have updated PocketBibleBibleStudyApp to improve the user friendliness of PocketBibleBibleStudyApp , and it is indeed a great improvement. I have many Bible apps, but this one is the best by far!
