CalConvert: Currency Converter Reviews

So I downloaded CalConvert to give it a try. The ads were beyond intrusive and annoying, which made it hard to check out CalConvert properly. So I figured it wouldn’t hurt to pay a couple bucks to get rid of the ads. I didn’t pay attention to the price beforehand, so imagine my surprise. My bad. Anyway, it’s a pretty decent calculator. I’m coming from the galaxy note, so I really missed having an all in one calculator and Unit converter. This one is okay, with just a few annoyances. First, the sound effects are very jarring. Would be better if the key presses sounded more like the iPhone default keyboard sound, in my opinion. Also, the +,-,/, and X buttons on the calculator seem to be in odd places compared to most other calculators I’ve used. Not saying it’s wrong, but it will take some getting used to.

Okay, let’s be fair: No one expects a company to develop an app with no reward for their work...so I expect ads, and there’s nothing wrong with that. If I like CalConvert , I may purchase the ad-free version.

The problem: This apps ads are time-consuming and intrusive. I need to use a conversion app during time-sensitive preflight planning, to convert different charts with different measurements...to determine if it’s safe to fly in remote areas. I don’t have 30-60 seconds every few minutes to watch an ad, nor do I need to lose my train of thought when I’m making decisions that could literarily kill me or others.

So I cannot “try before I buy” with the ads CalConvert uses—I cannot “give it a go,” the ads are too distracting for that.

#1 currency symbol should be left-aligned, next to the flag (currently throws off right justification for currencies without symbols such as HUF)
#2 app should open with my same numbers as when closed (currently resets to zeroes)
#3 if decimals are set to '2', currencies should always show 2 decimals (currently shows 2.30 as 2.3)
#4 units should be searchable (there's too many currencies to scroll through)
#5 the calculator and convertor should be either integrated, or on the same page. I'd like to add/ subtract/multiply ON the currency converter page

CalConvert is really good, overall. It has a lot of adds while u r trying to do ur work, the only way to remove all of the annoying adds is to buy it for $16 and for me that’s a lot, of I had to pay that much to remove adds then I’d rather use my regular app that the phone comes with. But overall it was a great app! I loved the backgrounds, the only thing I’d change is the price, it’s really high. But great app besides that problem, definitely would keep using it! Helped me a lot and I mean a lot!

If you want a calculator for your iPad/iPhone that is quite functional yet easy to see and easy to use, thus is the one. It just plain does the job!
In the last update they made the numbers light grey in color on a slightly darker grey background. It was infinitely easier to see when the numbers were black. I have no idea which “genius” decided virtually no contrast was better but obviously he/she is young and has excellent eyesight, many of us enjoy neither trait.

I like this calculator, I truly do. But lately the ads are obstructive, repetitive, and thoroughly annoying.

Why not offer a simple, "ad free" version for a couple dollars, like many simple game apps? I don't need, nor want a "Pro" version with all their bells and whistles- just a good clean functional calculator, which this app has been until recently.

I won't pay $17 for it, but $2, yes. You'll get more takers!

Most recent update has caused the temperature calculator malfunction. When selecting Celsius the calculator works but if you select Fahrenheit it will double its value. Likewise if you select Fahrenheit first and enter the temperature it will not calculate properly in Celsius.

I haven't tested out all of the other features so who knows what else may be broken. I'm also not a big fan of this new Ad screen that was added. I should've never updated..

Unobtrusive ads on the free version won't distract your attention from the problem being solved. I may upgrade CalConvert to the full version. I'd like to see a chemistry (soil) conversion feature, ph, macro & micro-nutrients values of common fertilizers and compostable materials etc...

Seems to work just fine. Large, easy-to-read interface. Sometimes a bit slow to load, but still highly recommended.

I have used it for calculations and measurement conversions. At first it was a little confusing because I wasn’t used to this specific type of app or an iPhone. But I did load this in on my iPhone and now that I’m used to it I really like it because everything’s right there at a glance. I can see all the measurement and all the conversions.

Why can I have the same calculator on my iPad mini as I have on my iPhone? I HATE the calculator on my iPad mini. I have to be interrupted with my calculations by stupid commercials I don’t want to see advertising stupid products I refuse to buy. Many times they are games that I don’t want to play. The calculator is difficult to manage. I want the same calculator that’s on my iPhone! I’ve rated this one star but I would’ve rated it zero star if possible. Get with it Apple!!

the current update does not work properly on the lastest ios 9 version. It does not show the scientific calc any more (by default) thus making it rather useless at the moment. Also I cannot select any other free themes anymore as CalConvert claimes there are not ad clips available and I thus find myself unable to change the theme.
It also shows ads even though i purchased the ad-free version.

Nice big caricatures to see. Shows last calculation. Memory works well. My math skills have atrophied to the point I could not do the simplest equations without this product.

CalConvert used to be my go-to for calculations on my iPad. But at some point they started adding pop-up ads that last 10-15 seconds. It may not seem that long, but when you just want to do a couple simple calculations it’s a major turnoff... so much so that I’m here writing this review.

My recommendation is to not waste your time with this one, until they get rid of the pop-up ads.

CalConvert just makes sense, and the fact that I don't have to continuously switch back and forth with the native calculator app to apply those output numbers is a yuge plus. It's yuuge! Believe me.

This is the best converter on the market. I’ve used it for years. Not just as a calculator but more frequently to do conversions.

Ever since the latest update I cannot seem to re-arrange the currencies. Is this no longer an option or am I missing a step? Other than that I like CalConvert a lot.

Quick! Accurate! Will save you $ when you know what you are spending!

It works great. I would have rated 5 if only I could convert to INR as well among other currencies on Apple Watch. I may change it later once added.

Very useful converter and calculator. Rich and easy to use. Very well laid out. Has everything I look for. Even those ever needed cooking volumes.

Great App for years, but there seems to be a bug with the latest update, subtraction is calculating incorrectly. Please fix ASAP and release patch immediately that’ll be greatly appreciated. I believe many users are depending on it to do complex and important calculations. Wrong numbers may lead to many wrong decisions! Thanks in advance support team.

I love CalConvert, I use it all the time for currency and temperature on, my iPad mini. Only problem is, I got sick of the ads so I paid for it but the ads won’t stop and no response from their support group
