Word Switch

One very minor gripe: if you forget to switch languages and have a word typed in, it erases when you select correct translation. No biggy since that may require reprogramming.

Word of the Day is useless

I’m wondering if PortugueseDictionary developers can fix this. The word of the day generated is almost always a word which is the same or very similar in English. Today’s word, for example, was “ideal”. I can figure out what that word means. Is there any way to make this feature actually useful?

Ali

Was not using it that much until I got to Portugal and paid for the translation feature which then would not work but more frustratingly than that once you click on the translator you get stuck on See Adds or Activate and cannot go back to where you were.

Check b4 buying pronunciation

PortugueseDictionary only supports pronunciation for some languages BUT WILL LET U BUY pronunciation even if not supported.

Portuguese, for example is not supported but PortugueseDictionary will charge u anyway.

Great job

I love that the notification badge reminds me everyday that I have a new word to memorize. The words are not the typical words you learn when starting a new language. Today's word was carbon for example. I don't know if I would have ever thought to look that word up. I may have guessed it was the same as English, but now I know it is CARBONO. Now I can discuss early copying techniques or carbon dating :-).... Though not likely, but I can if I want. Great job!

Word-a-day

PortugueseDictionary is very helpful to learn to words and phrases in Portuguese. Everyday a new word is listed for learning with the English translation. There are also other words and phrases you can learn if you want to speed things up. This is a great app and I would recommend it to anyone interested in learning Portuguese, Brazilian style. Nevertheless, all good things must come to an end. After awhile you have to pay to go on.

Lacks gender & conjugation information and example uses

Good app but each dictionary entry needs more 'context'... How many times have you wondered if a noun is male or female? How many times have you looked up a verb in its conjugated form and couldn't find it, until you guessed the infinitive? How many times have you wished for an example sentence with an otherwise ambiguous word or phrase? All this is lacking for a 5-star review.

Still the best app of this kind that I found, and FREE!

Advertising killed it

This used to be my favorite app for translation, but recently they have inserted "um monte" of ads...makes it if not worthless, incredibly irritating. Then they have the audacity to post a "special charge" to remove ads. Sorry folks, I'll find the better alternative, even if I have to pay more to download.

Note to app developers and advertisers: 1) I absolutely avoid products that post ads in apps. 2) I absolutely trash every app that starts to display too many ads, especially animated ads that continually interrupt the primary purpose of PortugueseDictionary ...Tchau!!!

Good App

I look forward to learning my new word each day. As someone who is just learning Portuguese some of the words chosen are a bit outlandish, I would rather see more everyday words that would be helpful in finding my way around and speaking to the locals in shops and restaurants.

Great App

Although sometimes slow, PortugueseDictionary is great to have in class when I need to find a word in Portuguese. I wish it had functions to translate from Spanish to Portuguese, and I would love for it to show the gender of the word, but all in all worth it!

Bizarre choice of words for word of the day

An example: today's word is "vertex". How many people learning Portuguese need to know how to say "vertex"? Yes for a comprehensive dictionary that's great but for a word that pops up on my iPhone everyday that's more of a hindrance. There must be some Einstein who can program PortugueseDictionary do that it only give us one of the 500 or 1000 most common words as word of the day. Also I agree with many of the other reviews. It needs Portuguese pronunciation.

Like the word of the day feature

The dictionary on PortugueseDictionary is not a traditional one and can be confusing but I really like the word of the day alert, it keeps the goal of learning a new language present.

Helpful app!!

Great to have while traveling since it doesn't require Internet/wifi. Doesn't have everything but most needed words!

Great app

This dictionary has all the words I'm looking for. I would recommend it to anyone for translating words in text.

By

Practical

Even though I don't like the fact I need to change and language before writing the word, I think this is app is very helpful, and has a good vocabulary.

By

Not bad

The dictionary is very extensive and useful. The word of the day feature only works about ten percent of the time though. Its buggy. It's better to just look through random words.

This is a functional app....

:) ....but I would like more details and features. The free Spanish dictionary I downloaded is better.

Poyuguese

Great app. However, wish that you could modify it, to include the 'continental portuguese', as in, from Portugal. Other than, that great game to improve one's vocabulary.
