App crashes!

2022-05-21

I was so excited when I found NikonSpotOn and it was such a let down! Downloaded on my iPhone 8 and input all of my info, right after that it just crashes. Close and reopen and does the same thing, deleted app and reinstalled and does the same thing! Should have read the numerous reviews similar to this before downloading. What I don’t understand is how they’ve allowed to to go on for so long for iPhone users.....we’re people too! 😜

Need new update for app crahes

2022-06-22

Just got my new Pro Staff rimfire rifle scope today and one of the selling points for me was the Nikon spot on app they offer. So, I downloaded NikonSpotOn from Apple’s App Store onto my iPhone 6. After the download was completed I opened NikonSpotOn and it worked good, added all the info to app like it said and hit fire. That’s when it crashed. So, I tried again to get it to work and it crashed again, again and again. I did a little review research and found out that NikonSpotOn have been crashing for over a year now with iPhones ( don’t know about other brands). I think that NikonSpotOn has the potential of being a good to excellent app, but until Nikon’s application development team fix this problem NikonSpotOn will remain one star for me. Hopefully, Nikon read these reviews that everybody put out and live up to the Nikon name.

Lost all saved loads!!!

2022-07-23

I’ve been using NikonSpotOn for years and have bought 10 BDC reticle scopes to use with NikonSpotOn and have saved a dozen or so loads on NikonSpotOn . Now when I open NikonSpotOn the saved loads are gone and the option to save a load is also gone. All of my info has been lost and I can’t type the words here to express my anger properly. I really hope there is an update soon to remedy this or I may go from a loyal customer of Nikon to another company. It makes me think that any future updates could also make customers lose their data so it will again be a waste of time.

App Crashes

2022-08-24

Same review as others. Worked great, then updated. After that it started crashing. Works with some scopes and loads but I primarily use it for a .22 with the pro staff 3-9 target efr scope. You can load all your data in but once you hit FIRE it crashes. I have deleted and reinstalled NikonSpotOn several times and still have the same issue. Hope they get it corrected soon I enjoyed using it when it worked. Currently am using other apps but liked this one for its simplicity.

Crap app

2022-09-25

When I first downloaded it, I was able to input settings and pull weather data in automatically. Now NikonSpotOn just times out or crashes. Seems to be a common complaint with iPhone users. When I contacted Nikon they gave me a scripted answer which didn’t solve the problem (or address it). When I challenged their response, they stated that this problems need to be referred to upper management to take care of. Nothing my has happened. Zero support!

Would be great if they would fix it

2022-10-26

Bought a Nikon 3x32 BDC scope and would love to use NikonSpotOn to shoot with but it freezes most of the time when you hit FIRE thereby making the most important info (holdovers) unavailable. The few times I've gotten it to go through it's been great. How about some support Nikon? Judging from the reviews, this has been going on for months. How about some help. And while you're at it, put in a variable for barrel lengths

H&H

2022-11-27

This is a good effective app and works better than expected. It delivers reliable data that works as advertised with Nikon scopes particularly with the BDC reticles. However, after the last update both the 300 H&H and the 375 H&H were incorrectly labeled with “H&&H”. Consequently, no ammo data is available for anything with a “H&&H” label. Fortunately I have some dope cards made and saved but no new info can be found for these cartridges because of the double ampersand. Until the label is changed NikonSpotOn has been rendered useless for me.

Needs some work now but did work great

2022-12-28

Used to work great last update happened now we’re not able to use the estimated weather conditions and some factory ammo isn’t available ? Needs fixed soon other than that NikonSpotOn worked great up until this last update would like to see it fixed shortly

Could be better but not too shabby

2023-01-29

This would be a lot better if the user were able to enter barrel length of the rifle being used. Plenty of commonly used ammo/bullets can be selected although missing a few that I’ve noticed, nbd though. Overall decent app but a few more features would make it more valuable

Good Ballistics

2023-03-02

Overall gives ballistics of several bullet mfg’s. Very good and easy to use. The only problem I’ve had is app starting to lock up. I’ve used for couple years without problems but in last few days locking up.

User Friendly

2023-03-31

Not being a reloader myself, I stick to factory ammo. I was happy to see many of the shotgun slug ammo types I have used over the years. I enjoy referencing the ballistics table and look forward to testing out the chart more thoroughly at the range. No crashes yet with iPhone 6S.

Very good app

2023-05-02

I use NikonSpotOn frequently. The data is excellent - very useful at the range and in the field. The interface is a bit clunky. I would like to be able to save specific ammunition selections, or at least be able to search by typing rather than scrolling. I would also like to see a “go back” button for the bullet-only screen.

Not for .22 Rimfire II - see update on 3/4/19

2023-06-02

NikonSpotOn does not work for the Prostaff Rimfire II and Federal .22’s. It either abends (IT speak for abnormal end) or doesn’t show drop scale on “fire”. It no longer works for my .223, either.
Do not buy a Nikon with the hope of using NikonSpotOn in conjunction with the BDC reticle - you will be very disappointed.

Update 3/4/19:
Recent update to app made 5 days ago has corrected the above issues I had with it. It can now be trusted!

Spot On Crashes

2023-07-04

This was a great and extremely useful program that we use for Rimfire matches at various distances. After a recent IOS update Spot On will only work once after the download. It then crashes, freezes up until you delete it, reload it, and then it again it is OK for a single use.

Finally I Can Save Profiles

2023-08-04

NikonSpotOn has always worked for me and I’ve been amazed and how accurate it is with bullet drop. I just have to pick the right part of the appropriate circle and it’s game on every time. My only gripe all along was I had to reenter the scope (only Nikons), gun, and ammo selection every time I switched from slug gun, muzzleloader, and multiple rifles depending on the different game and phases of the hunting season. Now, I have a profile for each different firearm and scope in my safe. What a difference it makes to quickly switch to the profile I need when I head out instead putting in everything each time. Thanks Nikon!

Nikon App Flat Out Works

2023-09-05

I’m very surprised and somewhat skeptical to read so many negative reviews. I got the Nikon SpotOn app many years ago after buying a Nikon scope. I’ve used NikonSpotOn year after year for mid to long range shooting and hunting in conjunction with several Nikon scopes (only brand of scope I currently buy now). NikonSpotOn has assured me shooting solutions for first round hits on targets down range, when I do my part of course. I would go as far as to say that NikonSpotOn has been essential at even putting food on the table for at least two longer range hunting shots on Pronghorn that I would not have taken had it not been for the ballistic charts and tables provided. Thank you, Nikon.

Nikon Spot on - great check on sighting

2023-10-07

Love this program/app! It works very well for all loads, and scopes. You can even use it to set a zero for another brand scope. I can use it to check my longer range zero when I only have a close range target.

Love this app

2023-11-07

I was surprised after reading many negative reviews how well NikonSpotOn actually works. All my standard ammo is preloaded and the only way to describe is it’s amazing!

The tables are also easy to use!

I think there is still a glitch that needs to be fixed with the estimated atmospheric conditions by current location settings. I’ve turned on location and I get the “circle of death” waiting for the data to load. Until this error gets fixed, I load the data manually with info from a weather app.

Overall, I love NikonSpotOn and find myself comparing ballistics data from different bullet makers to add to my ammo collection.

NikonSpotOn works. I have yet to have any problems with I phone. To test app I spent at least 2 hours switching everything, no crash problems. Thank you Nikon. Great products at what I call a justifiable cost. I was going to spend 3k+ on a scope. No need. Once you learn the power settings and understand the mirage calling wind you don’t need a reticle that looks like a box of tooth pics.

Great simple free ballistic calculator

2024-01-09

This ballistic calculator could be better
But Nikon Spot on is good enough

Nikon seems to listen and SLOWLY incorporating the features we need
I.e saved multiple rifle and ammo profiles
Remember
Garbage in = garbage out
Make sure your muzzle velocity is correct
, BC is correct
Sight height is correct
Altitude ,pressure , temp and humidity is close

With the same exact data
Nikon spot on is only 1 click or 2 differ than Strelock Pro , Bullet drop , applied ballistic and other ballistic calculator

Even getting a kestrel 5700 elite does not make you any better

So stop listening to those who think ballistic calculator is MAGIC BULLET
You HAVE TO provide correct data
And then use some field data to correct the dope at long distance

Learn how to use this Apps
It will help your shooting tremendously

Can't load current weather conditions

Ross Lowry
2021-11-07

The app can not find my location. I have given it permission, but still will not get current local weather conditions. What do I need to do to fix this?

Bobby Stitt
2021-10-23

App will not automatically load my local weather conditions. All my rifles have Nikon scopes mounted on them, I’d be lost without this app! Please don’t abandon this app too many people use and love it!
