I’ve used this for some years now and it’s a solid this app app. I would like to see a few changes. For one, the scoring system is set to give the highest points to the 9’s, then the 8’s, etc. That makes no sense to me, but I don’t really care so much about the score, so not a deal breaker. Also, it would be nice to have the options to have all the cells filled in with pencil marks, for those times when I would prefer not to spend the first 6 to 8 minutes doing it manually. I also own a more full-featured (paid) this app app, but many of its features are only available on the pc, so this is the one I default to, since it is always close at hand on my iPad.

Don't get me wrong, this is a well written this app app. But there are better ones in Sudoku Store.
Faults:
Entering pencil marks (almost required at the "hard" and "expert" levels) is slow & tedious!
HUGE gap in difficulty between hard and expert levels. Once pencil marks are completely entered in, the hard level "solves itself" rarely requiring "advanced" techniques. Jump to the Expert level, and advanced techniques are required, but difficult when only 6 pencil marks are shown at a time.
"Perfect" scores mean nothing!
Allowing mistakes encourages a kind of cheating... I have over 50 expert wins, but when I've been in a hurry, I just guess on a number where I've narrowed the possibilities down to 2 numbers... If I'm wrong, I get a mistake, but I now know the correct number, and it's usually enough to finish the puzzle with a "perfect" score...
I keep this on my iPad because it's a great this app for beginners, and my kids like the interface. But I will move on to other better apps.

I’ve been playing Finger Arts’ free-version of this app for well over a year now. I love it. I play it multiple times each and every day. The interface is clean. Sudoku offers seven different skins, all nice.
When I started playing Finger Arts’ this app 2, they did not offer an ad-free version. It was only because I was showing Sudoku to a friend, that I went to the About screen and saw the Ad-free link for the first time.
Finger Arts does a fairly good job of keeping the ads from being too distracting, but I’m glad to have paid for an ad-free version. Only complaint, my stats from the free version did not carry over to the paid version. I had an 843 game streak at the Expert level.

I love Sudoku. Very easy to use, and takes a lot of the un-fun and purely rote grunt work out of the puzzle solving process, allowing me to focus on the logic problems.
I wish Sudoku had a way to do “what if’s”, to see what happens if you select one candidate out of two possibilities for a cell. Then Sudoku would have to let you later roll it back to just prior to the ‘what if’.
This could help me solve a hard puzzle, but more importantly, it would help me see how to deal with common patterns that still stump me today.

Updated review:
Scoring is not consistent. You’d think less time with no mistakes or only one or two mistakes would get you a higher score than when you have more mistakes and/or longer time - but that’s not how it works. There’s no consistency in the scorings.
That aside, I do like playing it. It passes the time when I’m waiting or just want a mental break. They should add another difficulty level - the expert is not that hard.

I love this version of this app! I was getting very frustrated with going through an ad between every game when I was playing many games in a row. When I finally decided to upgrade to the paid version and saw how little the cost is compared to the pain of those horrid and repetitive ads, I felt really silly for not upgrading sooner. Don't wait any longer! After playing the ad free version for nearly a year I still haven't found a down side to it

This game is addictive. I would have given it a 5 if the rogue mistakes would stop. Every now and then, a correct answer comes up as a mistake when it is clearly the right answer. When I press the number again it shows it is correct, but an X is already recorded. As you can see, I have played well over 3000 games. It is a wonderful remedy for constant pain which I endure regularly. Thank you for a great game without ads.

Rotation lock clears every time the phone is unlocked or Sudoku is background(it seems) because I never clear it and it is clear a lot. It should be persistent. Games will just end in the middle occasionally just locking and unlocking the phone. Not as buggy as the latest version of the free version though. That one just crashes randomly now. Probably when pulling new add content.
All that said, still one of the cleanest this app designs out there. I have played quite a few. Still this one is my favorite. Simple, concise, no frills or nonsense. Good layout and user interaction. I just wish it wasn’t so buggy.

I've tried several versions of this app and this is my fave. I like that when you click on a square that's already filled, it highlights all the other such numbers played so far. And the overall layout and functions of this version make it the Cadillac version for me. I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 because it has so much animation during the game, and that just slows me down from finishing the game. Wish I could opt out of that.

I love Sudoku, my only addition would be an option for a second color of pencil that is stored separately, where you can toggle between the two. Alternatively, it could be a mode where you stop tracking mistakes but set a ‘restore point’ when you start. Both options would allow a little more freedom to experiment with possible solutions in expert puzzles where the solution can be unclear until you go a bit into a possible path.

the mathematics or logic of this app has become an exacting frame of mind in my life. If I taught a class in college, I'd require students to complete 25 games before the semester completed, seriously! Focused decision making and problem solving, attention to detail and anticipating choices, and learning to make strategic guesses for maximum advancement. Or, not to guess. Last, I'd strongly recommend using Sudoku because it does not hinder the beginners from progressing through game level selection. Great learning tool!

This is a great way to pass time while waiting for an appointment, or a late friend. Keeps your mind sharp and entertained. Each level will challenge you further and the consternation necessary to be successful at the expert level can almost be a zen experience. I often play Flash and see how many games I can win in under 2 minutes.

Do yourself a favor and download Sudoku. I've tried 5 other this app Apps. The UI is beautiful. The levels, the graphics, the simplicity and the complexity; it just looks yummy ( both to the eyes and to the mind). But please limit yourself to less than 1 hour a day of playing... Bills must be paid. Oh, and if you have an iPad, get the HD version and enjoy.

I tried a number of different this app apps, and haven't found any that come close to this one. The pencil is easy to use and the penciled numbers are easy to see. The highlights are also easy to see, which isn't the case in all apps. It's worth the $5 to upgrade if you play often, but do it early since your stats won't carry over.

I learned to play this game while using my iPad. I tried several versions before I settled on this one. I used the free version for several years before buying the paid version. I kept accidentally hitting the ad banner at the bottom and it annoyed me. I had to go to Sudoku Store to buy it since there is no "in app" purchase within the free version. It’s now very many years of using this game, and I still love it.

I play games to take my mind off of irritating thought-trains and to de-stress. This is my favorite, because I can do my brain a favor while giving it a time-out from aggravating situations. I recommend this app to anyone who wishes to enhance their pattern recognition skills, their concentration, and their decision-making speed. The levels ensure that anyone can feel the satisfaction of success. If I had to choose just one game app for my phone, this would be it, no question.

This is a great game! I have found that the way to get the most enjoyment from it is to never forget that this app is a logic puzzle. Guessing needs to be kept to a minimum. Keep working it until you can make an accurate deduction as to what number goes where. When you play it that way, the sky’s the limit. I’ve got a 100 game win streak going on the expert setting. That’s incredibly satisfying. Thanks for making this a great game!

It was only $3 for the game, so no big deal, but the game is poorly thought out.
If a number isn’t used on the opening screen, it is impossible to highlight those numbers that you entered as pencil marks.
You should be able to highlight a pencil mark number and then place it on the screen in multiple places just by touching squares. Instead you need to highlight a square first and then touch a pencil mark number. You have to repeat this over and over.

I’ve been playing this game for a while, and while I loved the game, the ads were becoming more annoying with every update. Having to sit through a 3-minute ad before each game made me decide to delete this and find a new this app game. Luckily, I found there was a pro no-ad version of the game I already like for a very reasonable price! Happy to find this and enjoy playing again.

I’ve been playing Sudoku2Pro for years now and it’s the best I’ve ever seen. It has really well thought out features. The multiple levels provide challenges for every player. And it’s great that the number being played lights up.
My only suggestion concerns scoring. If a player does not use hints, give some bonus points. Only seems fair since we loose points when the hints are used. I love the hints by the way. Thanks for creating a great game!

This is the version of this app I play the most. There is another this app game that is better in that it has many more features and a superb teaching feature, however, I still find, out of the dozen or so this app games I've got, that this s the one I pull up first. The only irritant is the lack of a choice to pull up an auto fill of candidates. Instead you have to put them all in by hand which is just tedious. I'm not asking for any hints, just reduce the tedium of filling them in by hand. But despite that this is still the one!
