🏷️ About:
With Recs you can save, organize, and share the places that matter most. Follow friends to see their favorite spots, share yours, and go to the places you wanna go, together.
I download this from an AD. It stated to find interesting places to go and compared it to the restaurants on instagram and social media. App is horrible, map does not show you anything if you go in a different area other than your location. If you type in the search does not show you all the places. App is pretty much useless. Yelp is better to find places. Do not download and waste time.
Not worth the price

Honestly it’s a good idea, but not good enough to pay for. It was nice to have a dedicated place for restaurants I like and wanted to try, but there are ways to do that for free that are not much less convenient. I’ve even just made a google account dedicated to places I want to go, and saving them in Google maps. It’s free and basically works the same.
I get that apps need funding, but if you guys used ads or something, or even a basic free version and paid version with extra capabilities, that might go over better. Just a bummer to spend time building up my list in Recs and now have to take the time to move everything over somewhere else.
Asks you to rate after every click on the app

Two stars only because I’m annoyed. I just downloaded Recs and am getting used to it and feeling my way around. EVERY SINGLE TIME you save a location it asks you to rate Recs . Absurd. I could understand once a day or upon opening but you cannot make a pop up every time a user clicks a button. I’m not ready to rate it, as I don’t know if I like it yet.
What’s it suppose to do??

Opened Recs and basically it just played an animation non stop. Couldn’t push anything, just a fancy cartoon about all the stuff Recs says it can do…. Then just a blurry pink screen.
Loved Recs it was great to find and help small businesses but then they decided to put it all behind a paywall after the people curated it over several months. I get yall think this is better than ad revenue, but do you know how many subscriptions people already have? This was a dumb move and now many people are deleting Recs including me who used it almost daily before you guys decided to do this.
Good idea bad execution

I can’t really use Recs because I don’t have any friends (🥲) it should allow more features and functionalities to make it interesting and engaging so people actually have an interest on downloading and using it.
Pretty useless if you don't have friends who use the app

Understand the thought around Recs but if you don't have friends willing to download Recs , it's pretty useless. Maybe make a feature where you have create a profile around your cuisine tastes then you can search for people with similar taste as you and see their this app.
Paywall

I loved Recs until they put it behind a paywall. I travel A LOT so it was nice to have an app that could give me local recommendations for coffee, dinner, things to do, etc instead of trying to find things through google. Why yes it’s only $2 a month, $2 is currently 1/3 of the federal minimum wage in the USA, most people don't want to/can’t spend $2 A MONTH for an app.
I’ll probably only pay for it for the months I’m actively traveling/ have people visiting me now
Sad

I really loved Recs and agree with other users who feel they’ve been baited-and-switched now that the entire app is paywalled. Sad to see it go this way and lose access because I can’t afford to pay for a subscription. I understand that things need a source of income to continue operating, but locking access to EVERYTHING behind a paywall alienates long-time users. I think a better compromise would have been allowing some free access, with other upgrades (such as some of the recent feature additions) available at a fee.
Recs is *very* limited in what you can do with it unless you have a friend group that is also using Recs.
I think the introduction of public recommendations would make Recs incredible and very useful for finding new places in the place I live, but also exploring places during travel but these only work with public recommendations.
Subs hurt this once great app!

Before moving to the subscription platform, Recs was great! More people were using it and you were able to discover places often. Now I barely see anything new. Mind you, I am paying the .99 cent sub for Day One but I still don’t feel like that’s worth it, sadly. Maybe Day One users should have been kept free and new users .99 cent? I dunno, but it’s not the same vibe now. 🤷🏻♂️
A lot of improvements to be had

- get rid of autocorrect when typing in a location. So many locations are not real words, so it’s annoying when autocorrect changes what I typed (the name of the business). Eg Hila, a gelato place in SF. First time I typed it in, it auto corrected to Hill, second time it auto corrected to Hula - have the ability to see what everybody has recommended. I haven’t connected with friends on this app, but I still want to access the wisdom of the crowds - have the ability to click and select locations in the map as opposed to typing them in. Oftentimes I’m in a new area and want to be able to explore what’s around vs having a specific destination in mind - have the ability to mark a place off as visited. Currently the only options are “wanna go” or “recommended”. But I want to have a running log of places I’ve been, even if they aren’t recommended. - offer best of lists for a city. Eg most recommended parks, theaters, restaurants, coffee shops, etc
Work in progress

It is a very good concept and I am excited for it. There’s plenty of food review apps and I think that all shouldn’t lean too much into that. There’s barely any good “attractions” or “things to do” app which I think Recs should lean into.
I would love a way for Recs to recommend me new places to visit based on my past recommendation or at the very least, show me popular destinations that I already don’t have in my lists. I want to see new places.
Also maybe a button to show I didn’t like a place. This doesn’t need to negatively impact that location but as a way for Recs to know I didn’t like that location and to take that into consideration for future recommendations.
There’s a few bugs and it seems very limited for the time being, hopefully it gets more support and better updates. The update history just repeats the exact same thing and isn’t very useful on progress updates.
Great Concept, but-

Really wish there was the ability to add at least 2 photos. Pictures are worth more than the 140 characters allowed for reviews. Love that I have a centralized place for my choices! Recs is similar to one I used in NYC, so maybe I’m deflecting some of their features I loved here!
Maybe I’m missing something, but I downloaded Recs a few months ago and made several entries (this app) and could other information. Today I logged in to enter another rec, but it seems I have to pay a monthly fee? Even to just write this app?

The support team actually responded and resolved the issue. I am a tiktok food reviewer so I like I can use this to track my locations and the future places I need to try!
Really fun but needs some adjustments

I really love this app! It’s relatively easy to use, however, once I’ve searched something, it kicks me back to the main page and I have to re do my original search to keep adding things. I also wish it had a little better way of recommending places for me. It will continue to recommend places I’ve added my responses to and not anything new. I think it would also be cool to have something like a wheel to choose from new places to go to nearby in case you can’t decide. Outside of those issues, I’ve really enjoyed Recs and am excited to see it grow!
New but good!

Definitely has a few small kinks with Recs being so new but super useful! A great blend of Pinterest and google maps! Very intuitive and much easier than just saving TikTok’s to a folder lol
Biggest ask is I wish I could filter by places me and a friend had in common (I can see those places but I can’t search by them)
Close to a five star - but…

by Cojohn
Would have given a five star if there was a way to not recommend a place - or at least mark it as been there and put a personal note - without recommending it. Makes sense?
Love this idea of being able to recommend things to my friends!! Recs is beautiful and very easy to use! One improvement is I do wish I could toggle between looking at the people I follow and my recommendations and then also a public recommended - somewhat like the “Following” vs “For You Page” on TikTok!
Promising!

I really like the idea of Recs ! However, I do think there are slight adjustments that would help out such as: 1) having the option to see the places jnder the “want to go” curated list, rather than having the “want to go” places I saved appear under “ my this app” list (which seems like on the pics promoting Recs you can do that, but not for me at least) and if 2) if we had an option to curate places into a “visited” category. I suggest the latter, because not every place I end up going is one that I would recommend. Having the option to at least store them in that category and make a mental note of why I didn’t like a place would be nice. I’d maybe considering having the option of “not recommend” public, but I understand if the intention is to be more “positive” in general. 3) Also, the comment box always appearing is annoying, specially if I don’t have anything written. Maybe having the option to not see then would make it easier to focus ok the actual places listed.
Cool concept

I think Recs is a interesting take on exploring your own town. As someone who is developing an app somewhat similar to this, I find it inspiring. I need to break out of the normal mashup of Instagram randomness is strong. I think the experience is very nice! currently it suffers from issues that aren’t the creator’s fault necessarily… some of the same problems I anticipate having on my own launch: New users having to deal with how empty the experience might feel until you start friending and favoring places. It’s always a chicken-and-the-egg problem. I hope to see more people engaged on Recs in my area and watch it grow. Good Luck!
So cool!

I’ve been wanting an app like this to exist for ages. It’s so nice to be able to share and see friend’s rec’s.
I love Recs! It is easy to use and visually appealing. It is so easy to keep track of places I like and places I want to visit!!! 10/10 you need Recs!

I can't say enough good things about Recs. I love having a single place to keep track of the places I love and share them with my friends! Latest app update now includes Popular Places, which has been a really great feature for me when I'm traveling to a place where my friends and I have never been.

I use Recs all the time! For work and for personal use. Any time I get ready to check out a new city, I save all of my friends’ recommendations with notes about why I wanted to check it out. Then, if someone asks me for good spots in that city, I can easily share my recommendations! I also love the match feature! It makes planning lunch with friends a breeze when I see a spot we both love or wanna check out! I also always have a nice list for entertaining clients and I never have to remember the cool spots I’ve been to!
I like the idea for this - seems like yelp but for you and your friends. It’ll be interesting to see what it’s like once more people get on the platform.
It’s a beautiful design and feels MUCH more modern than other sorts of “establishment” review apps/sites lol. Just needs more users to be able to know if it can be great.
Even though it’s not full speed I’m giving it 5 stars bc it’s on the right track, and I don’t like to see good ideas get buried. *STAMP*

I love the concept, but we really need a dark mode option to make it even better. And it should be more attractive for those friends who don't want to download another app just to find cool places to eat.

I've been using this app app mostly for my dining experiences so far. Recs is awesome for anyone who loves exploring new restaurants and values recommendations from friends. It adds a personal touch to Recs , allowing me to trust the opinions of people I know. It's like having a food-savvy friend in your pocket, ready to guide you to the best dining spots. I can’t wait for more friends to join the platform!
Nice app. Need more friends

I wish there was a way to find people who rec the same places as me so that I can learn about new places. I don’t have many friends that would use this kind of app so I am open to strangers but knowing they like the same places as me would be the main reason I would want so add them.

I love the idea (been wanting something like this for years) and Recs is well structured. I’ve been using Recs for a couple of hours now on my iPhone 13 (Pro Max), which has a high refresh rate display and the map is jittery on it. I don’t know if it’s only with my phone or if phones with a 60-hertz display don’t show this issue, but it’s very noticeable when navigating the map.
Also, it would be nice to have albums for organize specific groups {[it would also be nice to be able to export your list]} case example: album with all your favorite bar hopping bars!
Finally a place to sort out all the spots I love and want to try. Love the interface and excited to add more places
