Scam

Paid for VHSSynth80sSynthwave when it was released. I don’t expect magical updates and features for life - but I did expect the application I paid for to remain on my device and usable. Now it has tracking software in it and I can’t use VHSSynth80sSynthwave unless subscribing to pay for something I already have? Restore purchase does nothing. New owners seem to be out for a very different goal than the creators.

"VHS Synth" is not available on your iPad

The only AUV3's I've ever had this specific problem with are the ones based on AudioKit. I opened an old file I hadn't played in awhile and it said that "VHS Synth" is not available. And, resolving the issue isn’t as simple as just adding a new VHS Synth track because there’s no way to know what settings you used unless you’d previously taken a screenshot of them. Fortunately, for the project I’m concerned with, I only used VHS Synth on one track, so replacing it with another AUV3 means I won’t ever know what it sounded like again BUT I’m now using an AUV3 (not based on AudioKit) that will likely never have this issue.

Dissapointed

This was one of my most used apps. Some of the absolute best patches in VHSSynth80sSynthwave Store. Nearly every project I worked on had an instance of VHSSynth80sSynthwave. Since these new developers took over for AudioKit this synth doesn’t open in any of my projects. Whether it be GarageBand, Logic, or Cubasis. No amount of updates or deleting and reinstalling has helped. It’s such a disappointment and headache.

Good, but not the best

Ah, VHS Synth. Earlier today, I rated another old AudioKit app(Bass 808, if you wanna try to find it) and I’m ready to rate another one. The problem is not the subscription, that is fine. I’d even say it’s what you should do if you’re gonna put a subscription on your synth. It’s that some of the sounds just aren’t that amazing. It’s a decent app, and I’d say it’s a middle ground for all synths. If you’re better than this, you are a worthy app. If you are worse than this, you, well, aren’t that great. VHS Synth isn’t bad, and I use it sometimes. But to say it’s one of the best is insane.

With that being said, this is a 3-star app.

And yes, all my AUv3 ratings end with that. You can check.

Latest update broke GarageBand connectivity

+1 to the other comment about GarageBand no longer seeing vhs synth despite VHSSynth80sSynthwave being installed and fully functional as a stand alone

Needs an update

This is one of my favorite apps to make music with but for some reason it’s doesn’t work in Logic Pro. Now the projects I’ve used it in says it isn’t installed but I can open it in standalone smh. Please update!

Velocity settings when?

Digitalism 2000 has velocity settings, why not this one? Ive been waiting patiently for velocity setting since VHSSynth80sSynthwave came out. This thing is not fun to play when you have to smash a key to get sound going.

I’m going to miss it

Given the privacy policy under the new owner of VHSSynth80sSynthwave includes tracking me outside of VHSSynth80sSynthwave , I’m deleting it. Unfortunate, as this was one of my favorites.

Please more backwards compatibility

Great synth app on my iPhone, but would love to be able if i could use this on my iPad Pro with iOS13.

Compatibility with iOS 13 or even 12 would be very welcome for lots of slightly older devices that still run very stable on a bit older systems, without the ability to upgrade to the higher systems to run VHSSynth80sSynthwave.

MIDI FX support

Can’t really get it Toruń with Riffer stand alone but in an iPad daw it works

Incredibly unique and warm sounding!

This is truly a treasure trove of very usable sounds and samples! Grab it now while you can. I’m still going through the many many sounds, but keep getting sidetracked and inspired. Thanks for all the hard work and collaboration.

Killer!

The AudioKit folks have built such a great community over the years and their apps are so killer; this is no exception! I’ve been perusing the presets and there are so many to choose from. The VHS settings are super cool - nostalgia in a box!

Keep up the awesome work ya’ll, the $4 price tag is a no brainer for how cool this synth app sounds.

Audiobus/iaa

Is there anyway to make this available to route directly to iaa output to FL studio Mobile like you can with Synth One? That one connects perfectly but this one doesn’t show up on my Audiobus list :(

Bizarre and Amazing

This is a whole Brave New World for a subtraction synthesis!

Developer stays with reported issues till fixed.

Now I can save Presets and am having a ‘sonic’ of a good time now!

Clever and fun

A great buy for this synth that is easy to understand and makes some useful sounds. It definitely invokes memories of the 80’s for me.

Awesome Synth and Nostalgic

I was going through the presets and favoriting (starring) the ones I liked a lot and realized I was choosing almost all of them! Wow! So many great sounds! Typical of the apps from this group. I pretty much just buy whatever they put out since they are all varying degrees of excellent!

Very usable retro sounds. Layers!

Clean, intuitive interface - typical of Audiokit. Plus the sounds are great. Also fun and quick to layer and edit.

My New Favorite!!

A history of great sounding apps has just gotten better! I’ve only had a few hours to play with this, but I’ve contemplated calling off from work the entire time!
Absolutely love it!!
For those of you thinking you’re not really into Synthwave, VHSSynth80sSynthwave is for so much more than just one genre. Don’t be afraid to buy this!

Some Updates:

Old Review: But now, it seems like the new company’s transforming it into a subscription only app. I paid for this for when it first released back in 2022. Why should I pay for a monthly subscription that closes off my ability to use all of the presents and banks for something I’ve had for years? It just feels like an insult and a slap in the face to me for those reasons, as I’ve been using those banks for years. Please drop it and restore the banks and presets to those who’ve already paid for VHSSynth80sSynthwave , otherwise, I’m keeping my rating as is. Edit 1: According to an email I got from customer support after I sent one airing out my grievances, from what I can gather, they’re working on developing versions of the apps they acquired where users who paid for the apps originally will have full access without the need for a subscription. If that’s the case, then I’ll change my rating later on when it’s been reflected in the AUv3 version of the apps. That said, in the meantime, I do appreciate the response I got in that email. I really do wish for the best for VHSSynth80sSynthwave.
Edit 2: They fixed the issues I’ve been having with the Presets and Banks outside of the starter bank, as well as the New Init, New Bank, More and FX buttons in the AUv3 version with this most recent February 26th update. While I’m still not crazy on the freemium idea, I do appreciate that, as I said, they were willing to listen to me and let me show my problems via email and worked to fix these issues, so, I can let that slide for now. So, as such, I’m returning my rating to as it originally was when I bought VHSSynth80sSynthwave in 2022: 5 stars. I really want to thank you guys for taking the time to go above and beyond. It really means a lot.

This thing is fantastic!

I almost wanna give it a bad rating and review just so nobody else will find it. But I can’t do that. That would be like hiding the Bible.

VHSSynth80sSynthwave is that good. For the money, it’s as good if not better than the VERY BEST synth apps on App Store.

Un-be-lievable!!!
