Do not buy. Abandonware. Do not expect timely or helpful developer support.

Broken for over a year with zero developer response before he decided to go “lol it was Apple” despite his numerous competitors never having the issue. Finally gave up after months of silence from the developer and bought a competitor.

iOS 17.7, 17.6, whatever version he wants to blather about (he can’t even keep the version number straight in his replies) fixed nothing.

It’s been months with zero response from him, and now suddenly two responses in a row in two days? Sounds like someone’s passive income suddenly needed attention.

No idea if iOS 18 fixes it because I’ve LONG since moved on.

Developer decided to push replies insisting it’s not his fault he ignored his own broken application for a year.

This extension was great and darkened my pages perfectly until a few days ago when I could not open safari any more. Any time I tried to open safari, it would instantly crash. It was not until I deleted neo noir that I could use safari again.

This Safari extension I thought started out pretty good but it quickly became apparent that this would not work for me.
Here are the reason: it refreshes, restarts and crashes any and all webpages you are on within minutes!!
So if you are filling out an applications and forms or doing online college classes and tests or reading because of this extension any webpage you are on it refreshes, restarts and crashes within minutes!!
I am running updated iOS software: iPhone Software Version 15.3.1 and iPad Software Version 15.3.1

This extension worked pretty well all the way up to iOS 17.4. After that update, it no longer automatically worked on every page, I had to relead each page each time I visited a site.

The extension also hasn't been updated in over a year. I uninstalled it.

Update: lowering rating.. many sites have stopped working with it recently

I expect paid apps to be updated frequently but the developer has completely abandoned DarkNight. So any bugs that show up over time will just never be fixed. It works well on most sites but many of them crash repeatedly while using, forcing the need to disable it. This is one of those bugs that will likely exist forever and DarkNight will eventually be unusable. 3 stars though because it’s a huge help at night and couldn’t live without it.

This is more like a milky-gray mode that certainly doesn't take advantage of iPhone's deep black OLED mode. Even my older free dark mode browser supported true deep black nice. Many web pages remain white with inverted colors that are unreadable. Web pages often freeze up and I can't even close Safari. Some pages are frozen displaying a completely white screen. Why does it say "free" and "forever free" in DarkNight store but I paid 99¢? I've since deleted Neo Noir and gone back to my older free one. DarkNight is half baked, can I get my 99¢ back?

I bought DarkNight and use it on iOS and MacOS. It does its job well most of the time. But there are some websites which are immune to its magics and retain their original theme unaffected. The most annoying issue with DarkNight it that it keeps dark mode during the day allegedly based on the OS setting of dark mode, when it is not true. It requires Safari to be restarted to realize it is not night time anymore and so disengage. The opposite is not frequent nor does happen at all. This happens both on iOS and macOS.

When it works, it results in a dark mode as you’d expect with the option to reduce images brightness and easily create a list of exceptions for those websites you don’t want it to modify. Here too, it sometimes is inconsistent, as it does not recognize subdomains on certain website and you might find yourself forcing your settings when browsing various sections or pages in a top domain due to inconsistent results.

Finally, it would be nice to be able to pick from a variety of dark themes. Sometimes I feel it is too dark or that we could spice things a bit with a different color pallet.

Hopefully it will evolve to become better on the above mentioned issues. Anyway, the price is very fair, allowing family and cross device share (thank you!), and despite the pointed flaws I continue using it, as it does not totally detract from the general purpose of being gentle to our eyes when browsing at night.

I have always used DarkNight and love it. it’s free, it’s lightweight, it’s simple, doesn’t collect data and works good.

only issue is it uses/consumes battery a little i notice. i uninstall app and battery lasts a little longer but when install it back battery time decrease. otherwise it’s great app and thank you for making DarkNight.

FEATURE REQUEST:
please always keep it small in size just as it is now and if possible please add PiP (picture in picture) mode for safari. I currently use an app called pipfier which is also lightweight and works but i would rather have it built into Dark Night app so i don’t have to download separate apps.

First of all, great app, especially for a free app!
I use this throughout macOS and iOS and discovered that while the extension works well on Auto on macOS, it won’t on iOS. So even after the iPhone switched to dark mode on sunset automatically following iOS settings, the extension would still acknowledge it to be on daylight mode. I have to turn dark mode off and on again to enable the extension. Other than this bug, it’s great overall.

This extension, arguably, works very very well. the problem is that theres no way to have it work on an opt-in basis which can make elements on some sites hard to see/interact with. I would love an option to reverse the extension from being blacklist based to whitelist based.

This extension is great but it lacks a feature that bypasses dark mode when the website itself has its dark mode.

The extension works good overall, but a fix/change to allow users to enable/disable extension for certain file types opened in Safari (most often PDF documents) would be welcome

I often wake up at night and can’t get back to sleep. At such times, I’ll grab my phone to wind down again, but some of my favorite websites have no dark mode and the light from my phone will often wake my wife as well, not to mention hurting my eyes. Rather than wait for every web site in the world to offer a dark mode option, this Safari browser extension solves the problem in one fell swoop. Works as advertised… Nicely done!

I was looking for an extension which allows me to get dark mode on safari and I have finally found one. I didn't really want to pay money just to get dark mode. I have finally found one that does an amazing job at converting a web page from light mode to dark. I just hope my privacy is safe because it asked for full access.

I have a feature request, if it would be possible to exclude an enitre domain including all subdomains in one shot.

Also not sure how hard it would be to detect if a site already supports dark mode by checking if it mentions `prefers-color-scheme` in any of the css

DarkNight works like absolute magic! Every website in Safari goes from light mode to dark mode in a matter of seconds, swiftly protecting your eyes from an excessively bright screen. DarkNight also collects no data at all and works for any or all websites in a pinch. Overall, an amazing app that makes browsing the web at night a little more tolerable.

This extension uses the Dark Reader engine which is open source. The developer should definitely make this extension open source as well! Also, I haven’t seen any advertisements about this extension at all especially on Reddit, so you should do that too!

The developer has made this free across iOS and Mac where as Noir you have to pay for the iOS and Mac version. So it’s no brained here. Also this one works beautiful with no hiccups

Can you please make one of these for duckduckgo browser? They refuse to (asking for years) and it's so bright for people who suffer frequent migraines. Much preferred browser too.

I've used many similar software, honestly, this is the best, great adaptation for elements and images, and the ability to manually adjust the brightness of images.

Used to use dark reader. Many websites would still be white. After downloading this all those websites are now dark mode! I see it gets updated regularly as well so thats a plus!

This is the best, most reliable dark mode extension for Safari. Period.

I'd love to see a simple slider or switch that would let you select between a few levels of dark, but that's not a complaint; that would just be icing on the cake.

I hope they add a exclusion list so I can filter what websites the dark mode is disabled in, in case something is broken, and I want to save myself a few clicks.

DarkNight does dark mode right. All the sites other dark mode extensions struggled with this one hadnles perfectly. DarkNight should be adopt4ed by Apple into Safari by default

I love this extension for using all sorts of websites that don’t offer dark mode options and without it inverting colors like some I use on my pc.
