The game has a large variety of character types (even though some of them share movesets), has actually good gameplay controls and camera controls, more options in the settings menu than most mobile games, and a decent variety of game modes, including a custom fight mode which is perfect for a game like this. It also has decent graphics, especially in certain character categories. There’s even visual filters you can apply to gameplay, which is a nice touch. The attack animations themselves are usually great and look very smooth, but most of them move way too slowly. The character’s walking movements are very slow as well. You can’t run either, until you score enough hits on an opponent. That’s because at the start of a match, you can only do one or two basic attacks depending on the game mode, and you basically unlock your other moves for the match by scoring hits. Even blocking and running need to be “unlocked” this way which can make fights a bit sluggish and frustrating, especially due to the other issues I’ll mention. And when you temporarily “unlock” the new attacks and actions like running, they don’t just get added to the actions you can already do, they actually replace the ones you had, switching out the actions available to you. A problem with this is that some of a character’s moves will be vastly better than their other moves, and you have no control over which ones you can do, sometimes causing you to go from having a decent attack animation that is comparatively quick and has a better chance of hitting the opponent, to unexpectedly having an extremely slow attack that may also cause so much movement of your character, it might even send them flying off the map itself, if your opponent doesn’t hit you during the slow attack animation. Some characters have few to no good moves, or in some cases their starting moves are just too unlikely to actually hit an opponent, making several of the characters not worth using. If that wasn’t frustrating enough, the problem gets heavily amplified due to the game’s hit detection. You have to get relatively lucky to score a hit on an opponent, even with the better characters. Sometimes you’ll find yourself and an opponent right up against each other in a loop, both of you attacking repeatedly and somehow not hitting each other, until one of you finally lands a hit or walks away a bit to reposition and try again. And if you’re not currently attacking, the AI opponent seems to have a relatively easy time hitting you (probably because they can more directly target your hitbox), unless they have one of the characters mentioned above with very slow attacks. There clearly was more thought and effort put into this game than most mobile games get. So If the developers sped up the characters’ speeds and fixed the hit detection, it would actually be a great mobile game with enough content to be worth coming back to, especially due to the custom fight mode, good touch controls, and good camera adjustment options. But currently, the gameplay itself is too flawed in important basic ways, and makes the game very frustrating.
