pocket.gg Reviews

Great app, I’ll leave a quick review with feedback. Much quicker than desktop version, which is very good. A bit easier to understand navigation as well but still held back by assume the API. LOVE the ability to follow TOs.
Search function is very limited and will almost always return unrelated results to what you type in. Will also return tournaments with games that aren’t enabled even when you have that selection on. Also doesn’t always show the same TO or all TOs for a tournament series. Hopefully fixed soon because pocketgg has potential!

smashgg on mobile browsers are iffy at best, and pocketgg is great!

Very good. Everything about smash.gg but in an app

It was pretty easy to set up, and now I don’t have to worry about it. Lots of good functionality outside of being more consistent than the website like having favorited tournaments and being able to pinch to zoom in and out of large brackets. Get this, it’s a no brainer.

The one caveat, and why I can’t give 5 stars, is that the search feature is pretty poor. Even if I type my tournaments name exactly verbatim, I often need to scroll super far to find it. I’m not sure what’s going on here but it should be improved.

Edit: I see that the search problem is largely on smash.gg’s end. If this is really out of pocketgg dev’s hands then what can you do :/

Definitely a great app and way better than using smash.gg through safari but jesus christ you have to go through so much trouble to find MAJORS. The fact tournaments streamed on btsSmash and VGBootcamp aren’t automatically in the featured section is weird enough but the search bar seems to not like ongoing tournaments considering typing in “Mainstage” will lead you to the one that happened 2 years ago, not the one that’s happening as I type this.

I think pocketgg is a few changes from being REALLY awesome!

1) Bracket should be the first tab rather than the third when you open up an event. Most people are using pocketgg to view brackets, not seeding, so removing the need for user input there makes pocketgg easier to use
2) It would be awesome if you could bookmark/pin a tournament using the short slug (e.g. smash.gg/ignition or just ignition, for the weekly recurring tournament ignition), instead of having to run a search for the most recent tournament each time I open pocketgg . That way it’s easy to get to the most recent event in a recurring series that reuses the same short slug

Overall pocketgg is great, it makes smash.gg much better to manage especially on mobile. Although, I do wish that I could follow certain players to see how they’re doing or at least be able to search for specific players in tournament instead of having to find them by searching through the brackets. I also think that including the rule sets for the tournaments would be a nice addition, but other than that I’ll definitely be using pocketgg!

The less I have to use the actual Smash.gg the better.

smash.gg as a native website tends to be very slow and glitchy on mobile. pocketgg cleans it up very nicely and makes it run smooth. there could be some cleanup with searching for orgs/TO's to follow, however this is only the first version of pocketgg so i'm very excited to see how it keeps coming together. great work and a major thank you to the developers from one humble smash player to another :)

Smash.gg is good. Finally there is an app

I’ve been tinkering at pocketgg for a bit and testing things and having comparisons between the Smash.GG website for mobile and pocketgg. The first notable thing is that pocketgg is much faster! There’s no huge delays and having to wait long for just looking through the tournament.

The user interface is very solid, you can view details without waiting, have settings to see which games you like viewing, and follow multiple TOs for locals or online tournaments!

I would say however, the search button isn’t quite working, which prevents me from giving pocketgg the 5 stars I want to give, but I heard the developer is already working on it, so it’s a good thing they care to fix a problem!

For any competitive player, especially Smash players, it’s exciting to know we finally receive a mobile version of Smash.GG and it was worth the wait to see such high quality on pocketgg :)
