Sony wide disappointment

Sony has been a staple in our home entertainment for decades since the first playstation. But all of it seems to have gone downhill. Bravia were the only TVs I would even consider but this latest one is constant troubleshooting. A tv should just work. It shouldn’t take ten minutes to warm up and it should come with a viable remote control. Since the og remote didn’t last more than a half year, and the replacement sony brand remote lasted another month, we have succumbed to using this garbage app. At first it was okay. What can you expect from a $4k tv anyway? Certainly not a remote that works or a “free” app that takes its place. Recently in addition to requiring constant resets for basic functionality, BraviaController has introduced ads that take over the phone after maybe two clicks. I literally need to sit thru 3 ads just to turn the tv on and find one show. If this was a third party app I would understand that. But it’s not. Sony already has my credit card debt. At least sell me something that works without more obnoxious selling.

Ads every 10seconds

My tv remote is starting to go bad. Before buying a new one I decided to try and find an app. Come across this free one, and decided to try it. Literally the most annoying thing ever! Trying to navigate the tv with BraviaController and being interrupted every 10 seconds for an ad is nothing short of trying to use an actual remote and having to change the batteries every 10 seconds. I most likely would have even purchased an ad free version had I actually been able to try it out, but the fact I couldn’t has easily made me decide to just purchase another actual remote and delete BraviaController.

App works perfectly. Built in ads ruin its entire purpose

App works perfectly, connects quick and works just as responsively as your remote.

Great for when you’re holding a half asleep baby and the remote is across the room but you want to quickly mute a sudden ad or something of the like.

Doesn’t work great when you try to use the convenient built in app support to do so but have to stare at a loading screen and then the ad that pops up and makes you stare at it before the timer runs out and the “continue to app” or little “X” buttons pop up in random corners before you can do so.

Another built in “convenience” ruined by corporate greed. Same people that make gas pumps yell at me about celebrity news while I try to fill the tank. Take your fraction of a cent per view, I just hope you know you’re a bad person while you do it

$4.99 wasted,

This is a remote control, except you cannot turn your TV on. The TV must be on before it will work. When the Sony Remote dies, there is no way to turn on the TV. Just wanted $4.99 I have received instructions to turn on “remote start” but the menu screens do not have the categories explained in the response. I have the Sony Bravia KD-55X80CK. Help please.
UPDATE. Finally waded through endless menu’s. There are more than one “ set-up” menu’s. Found the correct one, now BraviaController works as advertised. I mean, who would suspect there is even a “remote start” feature, since there are no manuals included with your new tv when you buy it! 😟

Could be great-if the creator wasn’t so greedy

Would be an excellent option- it functions well, is convenient, and would be a favorite app if the creator wasn’t so worried about ad revenue. I spent x,xxx on a TV with the intention of being able to have a remote on my phone- only to find out when I’m trying to change the channel or skip ads on YouTube-I’m going to have to spend EVEN MORE time waiting on a “continue to controller” ad timer. Freakin BULL. They make enough money off the initial purchase. Greed is VERY apparent in BraviaController.

Not enough features.

I really wanted to like and buy this, but unfortunately, there are too many issues: 1. There is no iPad app. 2. There are missing a lot of buttons: - Options - Settings - Info - Guide - Help - Return to last channel - Play/Pause Please fix/add these and it will be a hit!

Update: ranking up my stars from 2 to 3, for the fast response of the developer. I can barely wait for the iPad version! That would give it 4 stars!

Almost perfect!

BraviaController is easily among the best remote apps on iOS, an possibly the best for Sony TV. The one time fee to enable premium features and remove adds is more than fair, and literally less expensive than several other significantly lower quality remote apps charge per week.

Only one missing feature keeps BraviaController from being a perfect 5-star remote app - the ability to add function keys to the apple to watch, specifically the options button.

To be fair, after trying nearly every remote app in BraviaController Store, I don’t know of any other app that has this functionality.

Good app, could be better for multiple TVs.

Let’s get it out of the way, you will want to pay to get rid of ads. I know there are other reviews complaining about ads or having to pay. Ignore them, pay the few dollars that supports the developer for their hard work. Would you work for free?

With that out of the way. I like BraviaController and works good overall. I like that you have keyboard input unlike some other apps I tried. I also like the clean design. The tv connection could be a little easier like other apps that finds TVs connected to WiFi instead of having to enter IP address. Not a deal breaker though.

Developer if you are reading this, I wish it was easier to connect to multiple TVs. It would help if I was able to name each TV. Remembering each TVs IP address is not realistic. We also need to be able to select which TV to control from the home screen. Going through multiple pages of settings is not great.

Best remote app out there

I’ve tried many remote apps and was disappointed, until I found this one. It’s very reliable and only disconnects when the IP address of the TV changes. When that happens BraviaController tells you and lets you reconnect. One can solve this by locking the IP address in the WiFi router settings.

Highly recommended

Great app, but I have a feature request

Love the Sony Bravia remote. I bought paid version and am learning every day. On wish list item… I would like to be able to make the track pad much larger by some button click, and be able to revert back to regular remote.

Robust app with Apple Watch interface

I’ve found this very useful as an extra remote and, unlike others I’ve tried, it doesn’t drop the connection.
The Apple Watch extension is also useful but I would like to see this extended to include ‘pause/play’ and ‘stop’, if possible.
Overall, very useful.

Best TV Remote App I’ve used

A lot of TV remote apps are brand specific. This one, being Bravia, is Sony but has proven to be one of if not the best TV Apps I’ve used. Even in the free option, commercials are minimal, auto connect is quick, and the tv seems to always accept choices without ever having to input a number from TV or re-log in.

Price is fair functionality solit

It works better than the built on remote. You can configure aspects you use the most. I miss having phones with ir blasters but i see now that i have a modern tv that ip is nice because you don't nee line of sight which at the moment is useful for me and software remotes on your phone when well done are nice. Also the price is a one time reasonable fee. Some of these appeared far too costly there is no way im paying a subscription fee for a remote controller. Ive not had any issues with it spend a day or two with it to get a feel for it it good after yoi get used to this imo.

Great app

In many ways, it’s easier to use than the remote that came with the tv, which is touchy.

The only issue I had with it was solved by contacting the developer on Twitter. I got a quick answer and solved the problem.

Hint - close BraviaController if you are using the physical remote at the same time. It will make both the digital and physical remote work better.

I love it

I was having so much trouble with one that had a lot of good reviews a bunch of people who use BraviaController (165k) on top of that I had to pay $6 every month, couldn’t connect my tv it kept saying I wasn’t connected to my wifi. and I was stressing out! i read one good review for this one only about 100 people using it and I said okay let me try this. SIMPLE AND EASY. easily connected to my tv.

No ads!

This remote is perfect because there are no pop up ads other than just ads on the top of your screen which you barely notice, but anyways you can also turn on and off the tv without any premium mode overall the remote is a perfect temporary fix. The on thing I would add is if we can resize the buttons. Anyways have a great and blessed day!

Great app, works great!

Everything works well, I bought the upgrade and it was very worth it. The only things I would like to see changed are incorporating the pause and play buttons into one button to save space(can’t pause something that’s already paused and can’t play something that’s already playing), and wish we could resize the buttons somewhat.

Best option

I downloaded no less than 6 remote apps when I got my new Sony. None of them blew me away until I found this one. Don’t waste your time. Download this now. Pay the 3 bucks for the full features. Totally worth the money. Only suggestion and it’s minor… be nice if I could hold down vol + or - and have the volume adjust without me having to click. Still this is easily your best option.

10/10 Works & Easy

I needed a remote for my tv for something so simple my remote wouldn’t let the keyboard screen pop up to type. I downloaded a few other remote apps before I got to this one all of which did not work or were trying to charge for that feature. BraviaController however worked right away free of charge and is incredibly simple took a minute or two max to download to phone, connect to tv and login to my account. 10/10 recommend

So far so good

This is a very responsive app for Bravia tv’s. Easy to use and easy to customize.

Id only like to see a few simple changes:

- give the ability to have multiple function bars (maybe three) at the expense of removing some of the vertical padding or decreasing the size of the control pad

- ability to set your own colors/stroke for buttons

- ability to change names of the colored function buttons.

Otherwise very impressed by BraviaController. The above points are only feature requests and BraviaController is still 5 stars regardless.
