Unusable without the grip?

I’m considering purchasing the Fjorden Grip, but wanted to test the camera app first. FjordenCamera opens and gives me the option to Connect my Grip or select I Don’t have a Grip. After selecting I Don’t have a Grip, I’m taken to a screen where I can go to the Fjorden store to buy a grip. If I click X to close that screen, I’m taken back to the Connect a Grip screen. Even if I buy a grip, I still want to be able to use the camera app without it. Disappointing, and does not make me want to buy the grip.

Shameless Paywall

USED TO BE the best FREE camera app with everything you needed that iOS doesn’t natively include. However now you are required to download purchase the grip accessory to even use FjordenCamera , what a shame. I’d be more inclined to purchase said accessory if I’d had the chance to actually try out FjordenCamera itself, but with this type of anti-consumer behavior I can’t bring myself to support such a brand. Perhaps they’ll return to their roots one day, before they were bought out & sold out. In the mean time I’ll go find a superior replacement.

Can’t open the app

When getting started, I get to a screen where I either choose “connect my Fjorden Grip”, or “I don’t have a Fjorden Grip”. When I say I don’t have one, it takes me to a screen where I can buy one, and when I exit that screen, it takes me into a loop where I am stuck between those two screens. So I was never able to actually open FjordenCamera unless I buy a product and “connect” it. Sorry dudes, I am not going to buy something or give a good review if I can’t even get it to launch.

Software crashes - Grip hard to use

I have tried to like the Fjorden grip and app but after lots of trying I will wait until both are better. Fjorden is really trying to advance the capabilities of the iPhone camera and I support that but I have gotten better one hand operations using the $15 ulanzi grip and the native camera app. Maybe this is because I like to shoot ProRAW at 48mpix and any app besides the native app has an unacceptable delay in this mode.

No Video?

Dslr’s have had a video option for more than a decade. This is a huge oversight that video is missing on this contraption. Also the magnet/mic/tripod holder only fits on the camera without the case on it rendering it useless if I have a Fjorden case, which I do. The leather strap connects to nothing. Is it a keychain? Is it for the case? At any rate the handle works well and does it’s described function. The accessories however are not conducive to the entire component, meaning they are not functional additions. The case holds the grip but not the phone. And I was sent two of them.

Some software limitations

I also have the grip and it would be really nice to be able to zoom in ProRaw 48mp mode also as this actually is possible in several other 3rd party iPhone camera apps. Additionally, ability to set preset focal lengths crops for e.g. 28mm, 35mm etc., like in the native iPhone camera apps would be really nice to have in a app like this. The grip itself, although quite expensive is actually very nicely designed and tactile but unfortunately these software limitations reduce its use cases for me quite a bit.

This would be a 5 star app if….

Don’t get me wrong FjordenCamera is pretty incredible with what it will allow you to do, but to not include a video option in this day and age is a bit behind the times. I know most people’s main focus for FjordenCamera and the grip that is meant to come with it (which I finally received after waiting 4 months) is going to be for taking photos but I can imagine I am the only one wishing for more manual controls for video. Nice try Fjorden.

It’s coming along.

While still a bit buggy FjordenCamera works very well with the grip. What gives me hope for FjordenCamera is the Road Map of features planned for the near future. The dev team is responding to community requests and as long as they provide timely updates, this could become a powerhouse photography app/grip like none other. I have high hopes for the Fjorden company. I hope they do well and provide well for their consumers.

Fjorden Case

Aloha!,
So after a month of using my Fjorden grip with FjordenCamera , it is an easy to use software and hardware. The only issue I have is the case itself. I find it hard to use my IPhone Pro Max 13 side buttons with the case. The buttons are hard to press with the case. It makes the phone functions a little more difficult to use.

Good, but a little more control would be nice.

So far had the grip for a few days. Initially downloaded the Leica app on a trial basis, but do not like the user interface and the “presets” or looks although it did allow changes in aperture. If that one feature was incorporated into the Fjorden app, my rating would be excellent.

Thank you 🙏🏼

FjordenCamera is amazing. I used the Moment app before this, but the nothing was ever accurate. I’d set the shutter speed, but when I looked at the information after, it was not the shutter speed I set. That was upsetting. THEN Fjorden came out. It’s 100% rock solid. If you’re shooting photos with your phone, FjordenCamera is a must. I rarely touch the native camera app on my iPhone anymore. Thank you guys!🍻

Best addition to my iPhone

Well worth the investment to be able to use one hand to have actual full function of the camera’s capabilities. Using one hand for zoom, changing lenses, ISO shift, spot focus, exposure control of background and much more. The “kick stand” grip is also a plus. Highly recommend.. The quality of my photos ' on the fly" is amazing. Well constructed as well!

Amazing app and incredible support!

I’ve been a photographer over 20 years and this is the first app combined with their incredible grip that has provided the closet thing to a DSLR experience! Their app development team is consistently in support of listening to its customer’s ideas for further development and improvements. All this along with Fjorden’s customer support is top notch! Highly recommended!!

The search is over!!!

I no longer have to look for a suitable camera app that works for me! I have tried every popular camera app alternate (Halide, Camera+, Camera M and ProCam) and non capture the one handed operation quite like this one. Whether you are a photographer or an everyday moment capturer this camera app will provide you with the ease of use you need while allowing you to switch to manual mode and capture with pro level settings like Shutter Speed, ISO, and Focus to unleash your creative side. Look no further than Fjorden and be sure the check out their website to look at the upcoming hardware shipping soon that will pair with this and make sure you never miss a moment!

Very enjoyable to use

I’m using TestFlight to test new features and can’t figure out how to supply my evaluation, so I’ll do that here.

FjordenCamera is more responsive, especially when first starting up and connecting via Bluetooth.

I’m sure that I’ll have more feedback as I continue using the system, which, so far, I really enjoy.

Great grip

I really like the Fjorden grip. It makes both auto and manual iPhone photography so much easier and more enjoyable. FjordenCamera is very intuitive and easy to use, and the company is integrating other photography and camera apps into its workflow. Personally I’d like to see integration with Hydra in the future. I am definitely a committed user.

My go to app

I have multiple camera apps on my iPhone, but even when I do not have the Fjorden grip installed, I find myself going, to the Fjorden app for taking pictures, any pictures. I consistently get the best results and best pictures using FjordenCamera. It is easier to use, quicker to hand, and excellent results. I got FjordenCamera because of the grip, now I think I would get the grip because of FjordenCamera .

Fantastic, meets expectations!

Though, I’m wondering, can you make it so that it reaches all the way up to 25× zoom for my iPhone 15 Pro Max, and faster? I don’t like that I have to scroll multiple times just to reach max zoom (I like one or two times, from 5x to 25x), like the normal camera app

Remarkable. Simply what I've been waiting for.

FINALLY AT HOME. As others have said, I've always gone back to the default iOS camera app because other manual camera apps just are not designed well to put it bluntly. The Fjorden devs really understand what they're doing here.

The manual controls are very simple to navigate and swap back to auto. Lowkey I think what makes me happiest is how easy I GET CHOOSE which lens I want to shoot out of. Apple's camera software is unbelievably, mind boggling frustrating at forcing lenses that it thinks you should use - resulting in flat, digitally zoomed and cropped in images. Thank you Fjorden for simplifying my day to day, run and gun 📸

Well designed and thought out

I love how simple the UI is on FjordenCamera, as someone looking for something to make the camera on my phone feel a little more intentional it was a bit of a surprise to see such a clean ui.

It is refreshing to see an app without ads or subscriptions that is free to use and is funded by a hardware sales model. My only complaints with FjordenCamera so far are related to feature completeness, but it appears that FjordenCamera is under some regular updates. Features that I see as lacking right now are:
- manual focus zoom is always centered, it would be nice to choose where in the viewfinder gets zoomed in during focus adjustment
- film simulations are a bit aggressive, it would be nice to either adjust the intensity or allow for the import of film simulations similar to Ricoh
- film simulation photos cannot be taken simultaneously with raw photos. I sort of understand this philosophically, because using a film simulation is a different use case than raw photography, but I think there is value here if you want to leave film simulation on for ease of share-ability while still having a raw shot in case you get an unexpectedly nice shot

Camera App & Grip work wonderfully. I used it all over Canada up into Newfoundland.
