Setapp Activated: Not Working At All :/

2023-09-22

I’ve installed Mimir from US App Store, used vpn, activated through Setapp, and checked all of the settings… By some reason, I see China as a chosen region without an option to change it (yes, physically I am here), but I do need to change it. Discover tab shows no episodes. Simply nothing works. Any way to use Mimir ?

Great in theory, but simply doesn’t work

2024-07-03

As much as I love the recommendation system, I have a hard time just getting a podcast to play. Then, when I return to listen later, Mimir has often lost my place where I left off. Nailing the basics of making a podcast client that can actually play podcasts needs to come before the other bells and whistles.

- Vocal boost feature doesn’t work
- episode downloads/deletes are not customizable
- buffering and lagging is constant
- unable to play any episodes when I open Mimir sometimes
- import from podcasts app doesn’t work

A hidden gotcha with iOS.

2024-08-03

In many ways, this looks like a promising app, so promising I decided to purchase the desktop app. Since I am trying to get away from subscriptions, I opted for the one-time purchase.

When it caame time to set up the iOS version, I figured: why not? And went to purchase the iOS app even though it is in beta. Much to my chagrin, the single Pro version does not remove ads, which is really annoying. If I had known that, I would have just opted for the subscription for both.

So I knowed off a start because it should be abundantly clear what is, and is not, included on each version of Mimir , so a user can make an informed purchasing decision.

Continued Bugginess Holds Mimir Back

2024-01-21

I really like the layout and design of the this app app. Unfortunately it continues to have bugs that make it a less-than-ideal experience.

For example, when opening Mimir in CarPlay, the “Now Playing “ app often won’t play; a work-around that sometimes works is to manually play the next podcast episode, than go back. Another example: when managing podcast episodes (especially if you’re managing several at a time), the player interface may freeze momentarily or not reflect your changes. This often necessitates restarting this app. All of the little quirks together add up to an often frustrating experience.

Finally, I like the recent swipe interface changes to play next/last, and Mark as played/remove from playlist. That said, I’d like to see that expanded to the Now Playing/Next screen instead of only being accessible within each individual podcast.

Slows down my Macbook with Stage Manager

2024-08-27

My Macbook Air M1 starts lagging when switching from Mimir to any other app with Stage Manager open. I liked the interface better than Apple Podcasts, but the slowdown got annoying enough for me to delete Mimir .

Almost the best

2024-09-04

So far this app is almost the best podcast app I've used. The only one that edges it out is Overcast, except that Overcast doesn't have a reasonable desktop app.

A few changes would put this app on top for me:

1. A native CarPlay interface.
2. The ability to automatically download new episodes, right now they can be set to download when played, when queued, or not at all.
3. The big one: The Continuous Play is great, but I'd love to be able to set it to only add episodes to the end.

For example: If Podcast A has 10 episodes that should sort higher than everything else, but I have it set to only show 1 of them, it will show that one episode and then episodes of different podcasts. However, when that 1 episode ends, it will insert the next episode of Podcast A into the queue in sort order, rather than at the end of the list. That means that even though I initially only see that 1 episode in the upcoming list, it will play all 10 episodes before getting to the rest of the list.
I would like it to instead play through what's already shown and any new episodes at the end. Otherwise, I'm not sure what the point of respecting the episode limit is, since all it does is not accurately show you what it will actually be playing.

Those first two features would put it on par with Overcast's features. That third would make it the best by far.

EDIT: Great to hear that these features are being worked on. I like this app a lot, and being able to switch seamlessly between iOS and MacOS is a killer feature. Looking forward to future updates!

Not as good as it used to be

2024-05-12

When I bought this app, it was because it was the best podcast app out there. I can't figure out if some (conservative) sites dropped this app, but in any case they are not available here, AND NOT AVAILABLE ON APPLE PODCASTS EITHER....that makes me think that CONSERVATIVE opinion is being censured and out of the control of this developer. I'd love to find the answer so we can access all podcasts. However, this app is an excellent app and Grant, the developer, is quick to respond to notes or messages, and I recommend Mimir. Sorry, Grant, I appreciate you reaching out.

Mimir, the one to rule them all

2024-05-12

… or at lease make listening to podcasts and managing playlists much easier. I appreciate how easily I can create a queue of episodes on one platform and then pick it up on another.

Best Podcast app

2024-05-12

Tried at least a half dozen podcast apps. this app is the best so far. Syncs flawlessly between my Mac mini and iphone. Lets you import and export OPML file (list of podcasts). Just get it; you won't be sorry, it's great.

Great if you listen to many shows

2024-05-12

I've been looking for an iOS replacement for Podcast Addict for years and this is by far the closest. It's a bit feature-light but I haven't seen any bugs yet and the "groups" feature is exactly what I wanted: an easy way to organize my dozens of subscriptions.

Fantastic Podcast App

2024-05-12

Managing and listening to your favorite podcasts is really made easy with this app. Definitely worth giving it a shot, you won't be disappointed.

Great podcast app, no Apple Watch app or widgets.

2024-05-12

A great podcast app with perhaps the best sync I’ve experienced in a podcast app, but a shame it doesn’t currently have an Apple Watch app or any widgets.

Great Podcatcher

2024-05-12

Tried this on a lark, and it’s been everything I’d want. It integrates well between devices, and the audio is excellent. Glad I checked it out!

Glad to Find Very Good Podcast App

2024-05-12

After using this app for the better part of a year, i've come to enjoy its layout, ideas and relaiability.

I've listened to podcasts for 18 years, since 2005, and iit's often hard to find a reliable and good podcast app, don't know why. this app is the best i've found.

I mostly use it for aggregating podcasts. I especially like the archive feature. Also helpful are the auto downloads.

A plus would be if i could rename the podcasts in the podcast list. This would enable better sorting and syncing with other apps that share the same file system. This way all the podcasts begining their title with "The" won't be grouped together.

When discovering podcasts it'd be really, really, really nice if i could obviate podcasts that have no episodes, or podcasts that are no longer maintained.

Great podcast player

2024-05-12

After Apple changed the UI for their podcasts app in a way that I didn't like, I started looking for a replacement. this app was it, and I couldn't be happier.

I see the latest episodes for each podcast I subscribe to. I don't see the old ones unless I explicity look for them. And I can manually set up playlists for the ones I want to listen to.

Additionally, I can play them at higher speed (I prefer 2x for most of them), allowing me to get through a day's worth of podcasts without spending all day in front of the computer.

My new go to podcast app cross platform

2024-05-12

I’ve deleted Overcast and am now fully committed to this app. Responsive dev who is constantly pushing updates to make the apps better. 5/5

Excellent podcast app

2024-09-21

I’m giving Mimir a five star review because it works as expected and I’m invested in its growth since it works on MacBook and iOS with syncing.

Pros: without paying or subscribing for pro, Mimir handles syncing between different devices. Subscribing the small amount a year gives you a fully unlocked audio engine that does silence skipping and other excellent additions. Well worth the price of admission.

Cons: no CarPlay system built in. This was the one thing that was making me hesitate subscribing but opted to go for it anyway since playing a podcast still shows in CarPlay’s Now Playing platform. It’s not a full substitute but it works if you set up a long enough playlist ahead of time. Hopefully CarPlay is included in the near future.

Neutral: on occasion as I play a podcast, the progress bar will sit at the end as if the podcast has finished playing even if it hasn’t (it will continue to play despite what the progress bar displays). I put this as a neutral because I don’t know if this is a bug caused by the Critical Role podcast’s files or if it’s a bug from this app. I don’t see this happen with the other shorter podcasts I listen to.

Overall: this is a podcast app worth giving a try. I’ve tried a bunch of others and this one is head and shoulders above the other top apps out there.

Now my primary podcast player

2024-09-21

Setapp user here. Enjoy exploring their well curated lesser known apps and seem to have stumbled on another gem here. Hope to see the continued growth of this platform. Absolutely amazing audio engine. Turned on the silence skip and gave them an audio tone to see how much it was really removing and it is impressive how efficient and clean this feature runs. I like the UI and am slowly developing a really nice system here with tiered priorities and continuous playback structure. Been using PocketCasts since it first hit the market and this is admittedly the first time another product enticed me at all. Foresee myself sticking with it on my Linux and Windows environments, but I’ll be transitioning to this app within the Apple ecosystem now. Well done, dev.

Best Podcast App and can't wait for iOS version!

2024-05-12

I use this app daily and couldn't be happier. This is my goto way to listen to podcasts while working. And when the iOS version comes I'll be listening while the go! The developer has been super responsive and helpful. I wish more apps were this good!

Great podcast player!

2024-06-24

I've used this app for about a month, and it's a great player with a lot of usability advantages.

Excellent app

2025-06-11

I use it to download podcast onto an MP3 player. It's easy to use.
