Updating review after purchasing audio unit option… How do you use it in Cubasis? Instructions are barebones. Please flesh out the help pages. And as before…
On my wish list are more time signatures and scales/modes. But even as is, it provides hours and hours of usable material. Oh, one more wish - ability to add greater variety of sections into an arrangement. And the ability to control volume for each channel. Addendum to wish list - ability to choose different instruments for each channel with selection going beyond Piano & guitar to strings, horns, woodwinds, percussion, voices w/o having to deal with MIDI (which I gave up on). Not sure how AUv3 would work here, but after my MIDI experience, I can’t see justifying added cost. But, again, on its own Piano Motifs is a must-have tool to get the creative juices flowing.

I purchased Piano Motifs shortly after release, and I’m very glad that I did. It is one of the best audio and/or midi semi-generative apps available on iOS. The developer is extremely responsive and has been constantly updating PianoMotifs, adding newer, better features. I say semi because there are many parameters or rules you can set before it generates a motif, even add your own chord progressions. The midi out IAP is a must for someone like me. It’s easy to route up to 3 separate midi channels (Melody, accompaniment, & Chords) using virtual midi into a host like AUM and record all the midi. Almost every single motif you generate is worth saving. I like to create a few motifs in the same key and tempo then arrange them into parts, then record the midi, and expand upon it. 10 Stars!

Only issue I’m having is audio export seems to be glitching. Not bouncing out correctly/ the audio is cut off and at the wrong tempo. Midi works great though

Can’t say enough good things about PianoMotifs. Love how easy it is to create usable chord progressions. Ableton link or the ability to receive midi clock from AUM would make it perfect. Still endlessly addicting

This is a superb app and is fantastic for creating musical ideas. The developer is also always helpful and responsive

Piano motifs was working fine for me and then I purchased the midi out upgrade and since then I haven’t been to audition any of the sounds? Is it a bug perhaps?

This has quickly become my favorite generative app. Great for creating progressions I would most likely never come up with on my own. Very inspiring!

Love the AUv3 update but I would love to have an override to the tempo sync to half and quarter time. High to low velocity range option and chord changes down to the quarter beat would also be nice to have.

Finally an motif generator that actually sounds like music. Super easy to get started — just hit play — buts lots of customization if you want. A superb tool for composers and song writers of all genres. Kudos to the dev!

I’ve always wanted to make music, but most of music theory remains a deep mystery to me. This is where Piano Motifs comes in- it’s the collaborator that gets you started and nudges you in the right direction. It’s the mentor that never runs out of ideas.

Piano Motifs gives you themes that you can use as-is, but it also lets you export them as midi to be modified or expanded upon in any midi editor. Options run deep as to how you want motifs generated, and you can use the in-app arranger to, well, arrange them into complete songs.

You owe it to yourself to try it. And read the manual- there’s far more here than is immediately obvious.

This has always been one of the top generative/ai/algorithmic music apps on the store, but the new UI revamp just took it over the top and straight to #1.

If you have any interest in music on the iOS environment then you MUST get PianoMotifs.

PianoMotifs is amazing. It needs midi sync or Ableton link though. I’d gladly pay for it if it were an iap. Better yet would be if it were an audio unit then it would sync to a host automatically. Seriously PianoMotifs is worth way more than it costs.

Seriously one of the only serious, and useable melody generators out there. Easy to get good results fast, but if you know just a little about music you can get beautiful stuff out of it. Also uncommonly good support. Well worth your money.

I’m not really a piano player but can sure get some gold out of PianoMotifs. Watch the tutorials and learn the countless features included, you can do more that you might expect. I also appreciate the regular updates throughout the years, PianoMotifs has really grown into something wonderful!

PianoMotifs is a very handy app to create motifs or help you get ideas to develop later. I was a bit confused with some of the options for editing in the arrangement section - I emailed the developer and he responded in an hour with detailed info that helped solve the problem. Exceeded expectations.

This is a Fantastic App! I use this repeatedly with Navichord and Chord AI. Would be Great to have a dedicated volume button (where is it?) to reduce the intensity of the chord progressions and Melody. Feels like the pianists is playing too hard at times. Something similar to the volume control in the Navichord app under settings-audio-instruments. Just Love PianoMotifs!

PianoMotifs is the perfect tool for film composers and producers on tight deadlines, or when you’re just in need of ideas. Comes loaded with customization options to get the exact feel you’re looking for. It’s incredibly easy to use and the sound quality is great. Piano Motifs has a very flexible audio and MIDI export that will allow you to use your new creations in virtually any professional DAW of choice and on any instrument. Brilliant!
