The "newly released app" that is worse than apps from 10 years ago

I love ESPN 1000 and the personalities they have on the air, however ESPNChicago and their constant changing of where they are posting their podcasts is about to make me give up on the whole channel.

ESPNChicago doesn't save where you last listened to it, so if I make a phone call, push pause and open another app, receive a phone call, turn my car off, turn my headphones off or simply pause the show for over 15 seconds I NEED TO SPEND MINUTES SCROLLING THROUGH AN EPISODE TO FIND MY EXACT SPOT AGAIN. It's absolutely maddening. When I used to listen to the podcasts on the ESPN app, the Apple podcast app, or even Tune In Radio app I never had this problem.

ESPNChicago also doesn't allow you to search more than 2 days in the past. So if you miss an episode or want to share a great interview with a friend.... good luck, ain't happening. Also the short show recap that tells what's happening in that particular hour isn't viewable beyond like 5 words.

Now that they've decided that this is the only place where they are going to host their podcasts, if ESPNChicago isn't working (like right now) there's no way to catch up on the show or listen via another app.

I've been listening to ESPN 1000 for over 12 years. I live in Colorado so I rely on the podcasts from the day before to get my Chicago sports news, but if I have to keep putting up with this crappy app my years of being a loyal listener are about over. It's crap.

Radio is still King

I commute to work and it’s great to tune into a Chicago base station where ever I go. ESPN 1000 made their app easy to navigate and has great features. I like how fast it downloads to my phone nearly instantly so I never miss a beat. The voice clarity is amazing. I’ve had no issues with buffering. I love how simple ESPNChicago is because it doesn’t take away the main focus which is the audio.

The Best

As a die hard Chicago sports fan living in Arizona now, this allows me to listen to my favorite teams news thousands of miles away. My work allows me to work with headphones most of the day and nothing gets me through the day like 8hrs of ESPN 1000. I used to use the main ESPN app and listen through there. However ESPNChicago is way more convenient for just ESPN 1000.

Needs work

App is OK for listening to live radio but the podcast functionality needs some work. ESPNChicago needs to allow access to past on-demand episodes for longer than 5 days, and also needs a sleep timer. If ESPN 1000 was going to completely remove their pods from Apple Podcasts, they should’ve worked out more of the kinks before making this the exclusive home of their podcasts. The on-air talent is still great, but ESPNChicago ...not so much.

The App for a Chicago Sports!

Love ESPNChicago. Don’t always find myself near a radio, but now ESPN 1000 is right on my phone in this SUPER easy to use app, and I can listen at any time! Live audio sounds great and the archive of podcasts gives me all the Chicago sports content I need. Quicker than trying to find ESPN Chicago in the big ESPN app, too!

Love the app, not the lineup

Listening through ESPNChicago is so much better and easier than the ESPN app. Just wish they didn’t tinker with the lineup so much and stick us with Mike Greenberg in the middle of the day

Love the content app needs serious bug fixes

Every time I’m listening and I get a call I have to kill app and restart. And do I think the auto start could work at least once I go through the settings all the time and it’s turned on but I have to go to live radio to get it to play. Love the shows and all the peeps on air but app is garbage. I use a iPhone 8 I have the best luck using the i ❤️radio app. Thanks ESPN for keep on chugging through these crazy times

Outstanding App

ESPN CHICAGO was absolutely buried in the ESPN app. Now I can go directly to Listen Live and the best part is that all the segments are Podcasted and easy to find. Should you download ESPNChicago, SHOT !

By

Won’t open up on autoplay

Will not autoplay when opening ESPNChicago and yes it is checked in the box and half the time won’t play after pressing play. When I am listening to it and have to pause it for a minute it won’t come back on. The worst app I ever dealt with! Been doing this since ESPNChicago came out. Back to TUNE IN app till improvements are made.

By

Does not work

I don’t know if being overseas has anything to do with it, but every time I try and open ESPNChicago it says “unable to download content. Please make sure you are connected to the internet and restart the application”. I am definitely connected to the internet. And it gave the same response on a different phone

ESPN Chicago

Love the new ESPN Chicago App. Extremely user friendly. I’m excited to be able to listen on the go!

By

P1

Love ESPNChicago easy to catch up on the shows especially for 3rd shifters

App Constantly Buffering, Missing Much of the Content

ESPNChicago is virtually useless. Despite strong wifi connections, ESPNChicago “buffers” for minutes over and over, on and on. And despite choosing “autoplay on start” it rarely does. Fix ESPNChicago!

By

Not a good listening experience

App constantly buffers to the point that it makes the programming unbearable. App has to be restarted every time to continue listening. I love ESPN 1000 Personalities but you’re better off watching it on twitch.

By

GREAT!

Can finally catch every minute of Kap, carm and the good kid!
Last but not least the ‘85 Bear and Mr. Marc Silverman!

By

Not good

ESPN 1000 is great, this new app not so much.

The autoplay function never works and I often have to kill and relaunch ESPNChicago to get any audio.

I’m going back to listening on TuneIn as long as I can.

By

Ok

Quicker to navigate to my shows than the ESPN app. The podcast will not save your progress. If the phone rings, the show starts over. Very frustrating.

By

App doesn’t work from abroad

Was able to download it while back home in Chicago, but ESPNChicago does not work now that I’m back abroad.

By

Not great, Bob.

Constantly have to quit ESPNChicago and restart.

By

Consistently inconsistent

Not dependable to consume great Chicago sports radio content.

“FINALLY.....ESPN CHICAGO HAS CAME BACK....TO ESPNChicago STORE!”

The app is terrible. It was terrible before, and now it's been updated and it's even worse. Today it won't play for more than about 25 seconds and then it stops. I'm sick of it and I uninstalled 8t. Sucks cuz it's the only way I have to listen to them out of state.
