Recovery Athletics Running App is a way overdue evidence-based, user-friendly tool for runners.

Recover Athletics Running app is a way overdue evidence-based tool for runners. As a lifetime serious recreational runner and now triathlete, I have been waiting for something like this for years. The arduous task of obtaining a primary doc referral, scheduling and attending an initial PT appointment only to be handed a wordy description of what exercises/stretches my latest injury requires (sometimes with stick figure diagrams if I’m fortunate), I often feel like the experience of transferring meaningful recovery information could be more user-friendly. When I stumbled upon the Recovery Athletics Running app with the short, clear, and sharp videos specific to the injury I was ecstatic. RecoverAthletics is way overdue and greatly appreciated by this runner. The fact that the exercises and stretches are evidence-based from a highly credible pool of medical and PT professionals makes it a home run.

No more knee pain!

I’m in my late 50’s started running a year and a half ago. Started slow with waking, to walk run alternating, to all runs. Progressed in distance no more than 10% a week. Tried lots of things for knee pain. Better shoes, yoga, longer intervals between runs, a variety of warm ups and cool downs, running coach, strengthening exercises, running on grass, running on trails, and beaches. Still hurt. I have been using RecoverAthletics now for a month. Just finished 4.5 miles PB time. No pain. 😆Great value, short easy to follow videos. Video format talking only at the beginning then silent. You can watch the video without annoying repetitive narration. Videos continue until you are done. No need to start over. Helps in perfecting form.

It’s good but there is always areas for improvement

I’ve had RecoverAthletics for a week and I’ll admit it’s going to take discipline to follow it every day. 1/2 the time I run with a group and meet them 15-20 minutes from where I live so it’s hard to do a warm up before I leave and I’m not going to lie on the cold parking lot asphalt to do it before we start running. Same goes for some of the stretches afterwards and by the time I get home I’m cold and done.

One thing I would like to see instead of doing all the sets of the exercises at one time. RecoverAthletics should repeat the sets until you’re finished with the work out. The first time I did it I thought that’s what it did and then I had to start over when I realized it didn’t.

A couple of things I haven’t figured out is:
1. I’m 50+ different days different parts of my body hurt worse and there is no way to rate the areas that are tighter than others and I can’t figure out how to change my focus points by starting over with the assessment, I thought when I purchased the premium it would let me but haven’t figured it out.

2. How to share workouts with family members. My son is training for his first 1/2 and I’d like to share custom workouts I created with him.

Otherwise, I like the versatility of it.

Just what we needed!

We signed up for an annual account so that we could use family sharing. Had little trouble getting the family sharing set up, but when I reached out to the developers they got back immediately and worked with us until everything was working correctly. We have high school runners heading off to college to run and a couple of parents who run to stay healthy and RecoverAthletics has been great for all of us! Love that you can pick out right where the pain is and get exercise to strengthen that area. We have had so much success with RecoverAthletics. Try it out, use if consistently for a few weeks, and I bet you will notice a difference too!

All Levels of Runners Need This

I’ve always been skeptical about running apps; especially workout/stretching because they never actually target the needs of runners. But this does just that by targeting the needs of runners! Great app and easy to use, I highly recommend adding this to your arsenal if you’re serious about improving your overall fitness and avoiding injuries.

One recommendation for the developers: if someone doesn’t know the area they are having a problem with, can a “click here” feature be added and then asks more details about specific area? Then from there a formula picks out the area that’s affected

Great app for runners!

I had been doing my own strength training and thought I had everything covered, but am realizing how many areas of common running injury I was inadvertently neglecting. I feel much more confident going into marathon training knowing that I’m doing a wide variety of prehab exercises. RecoverAthletics is very clear and easy to follow, and I especially like the explanation of why certain exercises are important. My only suggestion is more variety in core routines/exercises (including for those of us with diastasis recti).

Hip Flexor issues, I now have hope

I started running a little over 4 years ago
I have run several 5K,8K,10K,15K, and 2 half marathons. After a hamstring tear injury, it has been hard getting back on track. Once I started back running, I noticed my hips were very sore, so with RecoverAthletics I make sure I do the 5 minute warm up and the hip flexor post run segment. It has truly made a difference in my running pace and I am in hopes of running a full marathon one day. I am grateful for RecoverAthletics and grateful as well for movement.

Great app

I’ve been using RecoverAthletics for about 2 months now. It’s definitely helped with areas that need strengthening and stretching. One thing I wish it had was a short video preview of the workout before I select it so I know if that’s what I want to do on any given day or in any session.

Also would be great if you could get some people of color as workout demonstrators in addition to Meb. Brown people run too.

Otherwise keep up the amazing work! Thanks for creating RecoverAthletics !

It works.

I just signed up for the Recover app last week because of some knee and hip pain while training for the Boston marathon. I have done the recovery strength exercises for both the knee and calf so far and can already see a huge benefit. There was a time before I download RecoverAthletics that I thought I may not make it through the 26.2 miles, but now I have hope that I can strengthen the supporting muscles for these tendons and joints enough for a pain-free run.

I’m not a runner but I really like this app!!!

I’m a construction worker, I also do calisthenics 2-3 times a week but I’ve also got arthritis in my knees. I needed an app that had the right exercises and stretches that would keep me on the path to recovery and I think this is it. I also like the voice explanations and videos, plus you can pick movements that customize what you need help with.

The only reason why I’m not giving it 5 stars is because it doesn’t write to the Apple Health app and I don’t use Starva or whatever it’s called.

Has quickly helped my feet, ankles and sore tendons and muscles

Love the collections of targeted exercises. When they didn’t have a set for the peroneal tendinitis I’ve been dealing I told support and they put together and released a treatment plan in just a few days that has helped me to run pain free. Have also been helped by some of the other sets including the warmup routines.
Now if I can just motivate myself to keep doing the exercises when I’m pain free!

If you run, you need this!

Recover Athletics is probably the best app I have found for runners (after the C25K app that got me started down this road in the first place). I have had injuries to my ankle in the past that were starting to creep back up on me. I was able to use RA’s exercises to help build strength in my feet and legs to help prevent further injury and rebuild mobility in my ankle. Definitely give them a shot! You won’t regret it!

When you don’t want to do your PT…it’s your friendly reminder

An app for all runners (injured or not)- it makes doing your pre/rehab exercises so much less intimidating and time consuming.
It is concise and gives you all the details (reps, sets, video) plus ab exercises and other strength. I was looking for an app like this for a long time and it’s finally here- simple straight forward mobile phone based PT in your pocket.

Best app to keep runners healthy

I love RecoverAthletics. As a coach and runner, I highly recommend it. RecoverAthletics generates recoveries based on your input. The studio is a great suite of strength training exercises and stretches as well. I’ve been using RecoverAthletics for 1+ month and the nagging pains I was experiencing before are gone. Now I use RecoverAthletics ’s many pre-hab exercises to keep me healthy. I strongly urge runners of any ability to download and start using RecoverAthletics immediately.

No more messy papers

As a Massage Practitioner/Personal Trainer/Health Coach, I was constantly writing down little exercises for my clients to do as homework. I even tried to shoot a bunch of videos to make something like this. It was overwhelming when my time is better spent with my clients. Now I have an app I use and can recommend to my clients instead of writing down little exercises on scratch paper. Great program!

the best app for runners!!!!!

Seriously. I am a high school runner who has been injury prone in the past, and has talked to some physical therapistsa however, RecoverAthletics literally has everything that any of those therapists would say + more and it's FREE! Obviously this doesn't replace a real doctor and it certainly isn't perfect, but as far as an injury prevention app it's about as good as it gets. Certainly pretty niche but if this is something you are into, you want RecoverAthletics!

Excellent

RecoverAthletics gives you canned "workouts" around specific muscle groups. I wish we could build our own out of contituent parts and that for every exercise there was at least one variation to make it easier and one to make it harder. Also it's sometimes confusing what exactly they mean with some reps. Strava integration reduces some friction and the price is right.

Great for Beginners, Pros, and anyone in between

RecoverAthletics has a great wealth of useful features for anyone looking to recover from an injury or just keep their running game strong. I love the ability to track your pain levels and the dynamic stretching/recovery regimes it suggests. The videos are super helpful for learning how to perform the exercises and it’s really intuitive to use! Check it out if you’re in need of a great way to keep yourself going strong!!

It’s Not Free

I’m really disappointed in the business practices of RecoverAthletics. They advertise that you’ll have access to the exercises needed to help with injuries at no cost. But once you get in, input all of your information, and have a plan created for you, you only have access to a couple videos and have to pay for everything else.

To be clear, I have absolutely no problem in paying for something like this. My issue is it was not stated upfront. Please just be honest that it’s going to cost money (and how much) in your description. That way I can make an informed decision.

Super useful app

With someone with extremely flat feet I’m prone to constant shin flare ups with increasing mileage. They have specific stretches and exercises catered to different parts of the legs that cause problems for runners and the exercises only take a few minutes each to complete. You can schedule what days a week you prefer to do your exercises and for what. Extremely helpful for high mileage runners to build strength and avoid injury.

The best way to fight running injuries

As a seasonal runner, I have a lot of flair ups when I start running again in the spring. RecoverAthletics has been truly critical in keeping me healthy and running. Anytime I have a slight nagging pain post run, I open RecoverAthletics , complete the body scan, and marvel as RecoverAthletics walks me through stretches and strengthening that directly impacts my pain points.

Great app, but the “soreness tracker” doesn't work

RecoverAthletics is great in providing multiple strength training plans, recovery options, and notifications to stretch after I run. The workouts take anywhere from 10-20 minutes.

The free version is limited in videos, but the paid subscription is worth it! I use RecoverAthletics almost every day for recovery or strength training.

The downfall of RecoverAthletics - soreness tracker. I cannot get my soreness tracker to work. I do the recovery workout, as there is no input for my soreness. I can't click on the chart to change the soreness level. I have tried deleting RecoverAthletics , signing out, and anything else I can think of to troubleshoot. Nothing works.

I have emailed the company twice and still no response.

I recommend RecoverAthletics, you will have to keep track of your soreness.
