I really loved all the editions and updates Bits was making at first. I used Bits often when I would think of this app to structure them, time them, etc and go to do open mics. But I had a year long stint of not using it and I just came back to Bits and now there is a paywall up. The new editions including the open mics near me is nice and all but there is a lock over the add button and I can’t add new material. Idk if there’s a way to bypass this without doing the free trial but I don’t want to just use it for a month and then go back to not using it bc I’ll have to pay. I’m sorry but it was better when you had the freedom to add things without paying smh
It’s a fantastic organization tool but there’s a few things that are a bother
Almost every time I tab a new line in in the middle of a paragraph it sends me all the way to the bottom of the last thing I wrote
Sometimes when I look at my sets page I try to back out and it will pop up again
All in all it’s minor things but still a great way to organize your jokes
Nice to see an app dedicated to standup - was about to setup a website for this very purpose. 4 stars only because it would be nice to have a social component to this as well where we can connect with other budding comedians and work on things together where necessary. Almost a concept of a private and public space for your material. Any thoughts on that? Also not sure if it’s a bug - but I also have experienced loss of material even though I had clicked save on the top right. Opened Bits today and see only half of my jokes in one of the sets.
I’ve been writing for Comic’s for years. But only recently started performing 🎤’s for myself. The Gag app is an excellent tool for Pro Performers, as well as Brand New Comic’s. Since I subscribed to Bits they have been very responsive to suggestions. It’s not a stagnant App that Never updates it’s content!
It updates its content & has evolved in the short time I’ve subscribed. I NO LONGER need to scramble for a scratch pad & pen, whenever I get an idea for a new bit! The GAG is a fluid App thing that keeps you organized & motivated.
Keep Up the great Work!!!

Bits is great, but there a few things I’d like to see added:
- I wish you could add a general title for each gag, and then when you open the gag by tapping the title, you could see checkboxes or bullet points next to each note you make in the gag, instead of it all looking like everything typed is all the same thought
- I’d love the option to have labels and gags both listed on the same page, and once you add a gag to a label, it moves into the label “folder” and isn’t mixed in with all your other gags in other labels or that are unlabeled.
- The ability to custom organize your gags on the gags page instead of only being able to use the ones Bits shows in the drop down menu. Would love the ability to just tap and drag or move and order my gags (or gags and labels if the second thing I listed is addressed) in the way is like to see them that makes them easy to find for me.
Other than those, this has been a great tool so far. Hopefully we see this continue to grow and get better and that Bits keeps rockin’ and rollin and becomes a must have for every comedian.
The only one I’ve been able to use consistently and develop a habit with! Topics in Bits are fun to practice with as well. Very recommended for quick jotting on the go.
I just downloaded this app & i enjoy the simplicity of the interface. I like how it organizes everything as well. Once a bit is complete it can be further edited (during daily exercises)
Excellent work by the devs imho
Left a 1-star review because I lost all my data. Should have just sent an email. Not my proudest moment 😝. Got w the dev team and they fixed it. Thank you! Now my subpar comedy will find its way into the world as planned. Thank you!
Love everything about Bits, but the ability to change font size would help greatly for the visually impaired like myself.
The best free joke writing app there is, helps me keep track of all my this app, and how long they are (time wise), there’s a new feature that gives you a daily challenge and even a way to set up set lists/ sort your this app by topic/category
Bits is designed very logically and intuitively. It’s perfect for tracking stand up material. 1) you can tag jokes using “labels”, such as “pop culture” or “dating” to categorize jokes by topic (and jokes can have multiple topics tagged to them). Plus, you can build multiple sets by checking/unchecking individual jokes. Start here if you’re looking for an app to store your jokes.
Downloaded this a few weeks ago and then played with it before adding too many this app. Found a couple of issues with web synching but the developer was incredibly responsive in fixing them. So refreshing. Ready to really get stuck in now. Bits is great and has loads of potential.
I’ve had Bits for a while now (over a year I believe) and I couldn’t be happier. It’s fairly intuitive to use and it keeps getting better with more features such as feedback.
I will also say I’ve never encountered a developer who is so responsive to their customers and pleasant to deal with as this one.
Really love features and design, the developer is also very responsive and I feel like listens to the users. There was an issue involving a paywall and after some users submitted their discomfort with the decision the developer decided to remove the paywall. I think that’s really cool and shows they are trying to do right by their users. I highly recommend Bits!
Bits really does have some awesome features and is practically the perfect joke writing app. There is a bug where all of my gags when editing them are stuck scrolled to the top of the page. This is a minor issue I was having but makes Bits somewhat unusable for the time being. If that gets fixed and you add a dark mode and make an ipad optimized version then I’ll be probably the happiest camper. Still happy I purchased! Such a good app!
As an open-micer, you go through material at an abundant rate. Finding what works, what doesn’t, punching up this app, etc. pen and paper has scribbles everywhere. Phone notes are scatter brained and sometimes forgettable. Bits has helped me to combine all my various forms of writing into one compilation of jokes, punches, and even commentary for my own purposes on each joke. Even challenges you to write everyday. A+ guys! Can’t thank you enough!
Really love Bits for its simplicity and also its notifications. I get one everyday to remind me to just jot something down which is something I’ve put off and just done nothing. Keeps my brain and ideas flowing for what I’m gonna come up with in those 5 minutes. Definitely recommend for stand up comedians who want to get better at the habit of writing, and then categorizing and keeping track of your sets. Break legs!
Super excited about incorporating this into my workflow. The ability to create new sets from a library of tagged jokes is very useful. I also like the new feature which estimates the length of time of each of my jokes. Particularly impressed by the engaged response from the developer when I encountered cross-platform quirks. Stellar tech support. Bits is clearly a labor of love created by someone who loves comedy, and we all know that food tastes extra delicious when seasoned with love.
I left a previous review with 1 star. I would remove that if I could figure out how. My iPhone had been broken and when reloading Bits on a mew phone my this app wouldn’t download onto the new device. There was a challenge with getting help. I think because the initial response to my request for help may have been an auto response things got mixed up. Regardless. Amitay spent the better part of a SATURDAY morning helping me restore my lost data. I couldn’t be more grateful. If I can ever remove my previous review (made in frustration) I will.
What a great way to inspire writing and help keep organized. The pro feature seems worth it so far and I’m getting a lot of value from Bits
