VPN doesn’t work and zero customer service

This is another company that is more than happy to take your money and not provide you with any customer service when the product you are paying them for doesn’t work. Their VPN disconnects itself while you’re trying to actively use it more than it does it’s intended job. And their “customer service” is nonexistent. They don’t care that they took my money yet I’m not getting the benefit of their service…5 minutes of vpn usage doesn’t count to justify a monthly payment. Their pathetically lacking FAQS section and such on their website is a much too small bandaid for the size of wound this company is hemorrhaging from. All software is up to date, internet connection is more than adequate and of course cellular data is turned on, background app refresh is on, low battery mode is always off, there are zero other security products being used, and connect on demand has been tried for long periods of time both on and off…your product still turns itself off and consistently won’t stay on. Yet, after I sent an email almost two week ago and have paid for an entire month of service, I still haven’t received a response from lockdown. If you’re as tired of companies thinking they can screw you over just because you’re a person and not a corporation, then do not use this company.

It simply stopped working

After 3 weeks of LockdownPrivacy it simply stopped blocking any trackers, I would go into LockdownPrivacy and it would show the firewall is off and it would turn back on only to still not block any trackers whatsoever. It was working great beforehand but then it kept forcing me to connect to the vpn that I wasn’t subscribed to and it keeps connecting me to the vpn but since I didn’t pay for it my phone doesn’t have access to the internet on top of e firewall not working. Hopefully this gets addressed in the future because as of now LockdownPrivacy is slowing down my phone.

Update: ok so I even got the vpn trial and I turned off low power mode and I turned background app refresh on and it STILL won’t turn on the firewall. What do I have to do to get it to turn on?

Great app…

I have been dealing with hacking issues for the better part of two years now…most of it being harassing and I do believe I know who it is, though I’ve been told time and time again there’s nothing I can do about it. Apple, isn’t any help, though they’ve confirmed I’m hacked. I do know my “hack” isn’t a hack. RT BUDDY (look it up) and I’m sure there’s more. I know I’m “geofenced” as my phone acts up when I’m on the move. I’ve changed phones, numbers, SIM cards…nothing changes. Since getting LockdownPrivacy…I have regained about 85% control of my phone again. It does still get turned off from time to time…(remotely?). The program works. No doubt. I’m not confident the updates are actually updating…i do manually input blocks as I come across them. I could use more help, perhaps understanding my situation better. I’ve reached out with emails…no response as of yet. Again…this has given most of the control back to me, but I want more. More stars if customer support existed.

VPN doesn’t mean sending data; Incompatible with 1.1.1.1

Firstly to the people wondering about the VPN profile LockdownPrivacy sets up. That’s the only way any app can handle system wide network traffic on iOS. So every “firewall” or DNS app will setup a VPN profile. This doesn’t necessarily (or always) mean that your data is being sent to a VPN server, depending on LockdownPrivacy .

Lockdown Devs: this is currently not compatible with the 1.1.1.1 DNS setup through the Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 app. Your VPN profile shows up in the same section as 1.1.1.1, and iOS doesn’t allow both to be selected. It’s a toggle allowing either 1.1.1.1 or this one to be active at any point in time. Unless that’s resolved, by supporting the configuration of custom DNS within LockdownPrivacy, it wouldn’t be useful for those who have third party DNS setup through apps like 1.1.1.1 or DNSCloak. Also please work with Apple to see how two VPN profiles can handle traffic in a chain.

Works So Great That iFunny Is Asking Me To Uninstall It

iFunny seems to use way more resources on my phone than it should even need, most likely because it’s trying to track my activity or do other nefarious things in the background. Since installing LockdownPrivacy, my phone has been faster while using iFunny, and my phone doesn’t physically heat up when using iFunny anymore either. Recently iFunny has started displaying a pop up when I open LockdownPrivacy asking me to uninstall Lockdown to “use iFunny safely”. They are claiming that my phone is open to security risks and that because I am using the Lockdown app my personal data is vulnerable, which is absolutely hilarious because obviously iFunny is doing the shady stuff and Lockdown is messing it up for them. Overall great app!

Sudden issue

I love LockdownPrivacy as it’s been very effective even at blocking the colors and trackers that number in the hundreds of thousands on the apps I use but suddenly it seems to have stopped working. As soon as I exact the lockdown app the firewall turns off and when I manually reset it it seems to be working but then I notice it shuts off again. Has the recent update caused this to happen?

Update:
I saw one of the top reviews suggest a fix was activating the VPN and firewall at the same while making sure the background app refresh is on but it only seems to be as bad or worse and the apps I’m most concerned about are running over the firewall or it is turning off on its own entirely.

Lockdown is essential in today’s world

By now you’ve probably heard all the privacy issues companies such as Facebook and Google are causing by harvesting and selling your personal information. It almost seemed impossible for privacy to exist in a smart phone world with so many entities tracking your every move.

Lockdown has provided an amazing way to take back and protect your right to privacy.
LockdownPrivacy is great. Such an innovative idea and it works great with my existing VPN. A much needed tool in the balancing act between having access to information while not allowing providers to compromise your personal privacy and security.

This latest version is super solid and allows the rest of my phone to continue to access Apple mail and my other essential services while giving me the peace of mind to know I can control my information by limiting the trackers that booby-trap the Internet.

I don’t usually leave reviews but when I do it’s for a product so awesome, I want to support it to ensure it remains available to help protect our privacy from the prying eyes of private corporations.

Thank you Lockdown!

A good work in progress

I like that the blocking component is free and only the vpn service costs money. What I don’t like is the inability to whitelist individual domains. If you see a domain being blocked and it’s causing in app problems (like the games that give you bonuses for watching a 30sec clip), you have no way of easily figuring out which list that domain sits in. Then you can only set the entire list from being ignored, which defeats the purpose of having LockdownPrivacy. If there were an option in the log to select and authorize the hostname or domain or a separate ignore list where you could add one off domains that would be useful.

Close to Perfect

I’ve had LockdownPrivacy for about a year. I’ve blocked 2 million trackers on one phone. I use it on two iPhones, an iPad and a Mac. All versions, when used correctly by someone with reasonable computer intelligence, work exactly as described.I also recently started using their VPN. I had done a lot of research on the different options available and prices. I tested several but ultimately decided this was the best option. Although it has limited features it works well, provides speeds that are equal to what I had and so far has caused no noticeable interruptions.

Amazing VPN but..

I’ve had this VPN for I don’t know 8 months now with well over 1 million trackers blocked! But I’ve been running into trouble the past couple of days. It seems the firewall keeps connecting and disconnecting every time I open the application, even outside of LockdownPrivacy at times (funny enough seems to have done it as write this review now, fingers crossed this posts) I’ve also noticed that I now have 4 lockdown configurations in my VPN section (possibly related?) other than this strange occurrence, this VPN has been wonderful and very effective to use. Thank you!

Great app

Update: I’ve stress tested the latest version and can’t find any issues. It “just works”, invisibly doing what it should. Great update!

——————

I’m amazed at how much evil web traffic was going out my phone. LockdownPrivacy stops it cold. Simple install and easy to set up - one button and a few options. Some growing pains for a new app but their support is very responsive and helpful. They are improving LockdownPrivacy constantly. I love that you can set it and forget it. The only thing that ever broke for me was Mail and they had a updated version with a fix the next day. This should be a default install for every iPhone user!

Caregiver

Here's the thing: I'm a caregiver to both my elderly parents and sometimes I need to just get away or destress. I love coloring by number and I have a couple apps I like and would love to just start coloring and lose myself for a few minutes. What I don't like is ads constantly interrupting me while I do this, so here comes Lockdown Yayyyy!!!! I was so excited when I found LockdownPrivacy and so appreciate how it blocks ads on my iPhone and on the internet. LockdownPrivacy is so needed on everyone's phone in my opinion. So thank you so much Lockdown for a beautiful much needed app😬!

By

My favorite app

Watching lockdown accumulate blocked connections is as satisfying as playing some mobile games. I've had LockdownPrivacy for almost exactly 6 months and have nearly 10 MILLION blocked trackers.

The only critique I have is that when I go on Google to try to shop, it blocks me from going to those Google product ads. It doesn't stop them from showing up, but I can't follow the link. I have to turn off the firewall to keep shopping. Not a big deal though.

Love LockdownPrivacy and love denying my information to data hungry corporations.

Amazing it really works! Oh yea!

After I bought my iPhone at the phone company store I used the phone for a few years without any idea . I had a vpn service ,
a some what good vpn.
However I read this story in the NYT
Last December about how all these people including myself were being tracked all over the place by leaky apps. I know they say that we gave them permission oh my. But I had no idea after you delete an app it keeps tracking you!!!! Oh my goodness . I started to look for something to help.
I found this Lockdown app and lol
It shows all the analytics for each day that it blocks and wow it really does what it says it does. I am surprised that our trusted retailers the biggest online names are hacking us for every and anything they can get. Sad to know that they really are the insidious crowd . No I am not sorry
I got LockdownPrivacy. Thanks Johnny Lin and
Partners for making LockdownPrivacy. You deserve real public service award 🥇
Thankyou

Best Privacy App in the App Store

Anyone who wishes to reduce the amount of tracking they are subjected to should get LockdownPrivacy. It’s not perfect but it should be part of a defense in-depth approach to privacy. I wish LockdownPrivacy blocked more trackers. I still see a lot of stuff getting blocked by PiHole that LockdownPrivacy misses. When I leave my house I would like to retain PiHole quality blocking via LockdownPrivacy. LockdownPrivacy does allow me to add custom entries. This allows me to look at the worst offenders in the PiHole logs and add them to Lockdown. In spite of this limitation, it remains one of the best tracker blockers available for iOS.

Wifi doesnt work

So I was satisfied with how this seemed to be working. Who wants all these trackers in there phones??? I use iphone11 . Then I started noticing my internet browser not opening sites or apps not opening or closing. more and more. Then while in my ford car when I plug in, and speak to my car siri does not work. “Siri, directions home”. She would tell me to try again later. Facebook messenger pics not coming through. I have att and unlimited data. These things were all happening in wifi and out of wifi. For months now Im confused why nothing is working as it should.

Finally, after hrs with ford, apple, I myself turned off LockdownPrivacy. BOOM! Everything worked again.

Ugggh!

Amazing features, VPN is an issue

So many cool features. I love the firewall blocking thousands of 'ET phone home" messages that really torque me off. Being able to block them seems like a privacy concern, why doesn't blocking that come with a phone from a company that says privacy is their concern. Their privacy maybe?

But the VPN, not up to the standard for others I've tried. It disconnects so often I go to use an app and it says I need to check my internet access. Sure enough, every to it is the Lockdown VPN disconnected again. Wait a minute, oh, it connected. Nope, not functional in these times.

I like the product folks, please FIX THE VPN ISSUES!

By

Frequently disconnects

I used it from around when it was first released and it tended to be pretty split. However, in the past couple months it’s become highly unreliable and unstable. The VPN disconnects on its own, (as I’m typing it just happened again), and it often takes a lot of fooling around until I can finally get it to connect again. My data lines are solid, so it’s LockdownPrivacy . I have found that things like toggling Wi-Fi and/or LTE wakes it up, I’ve frequently shut the phone down and then restarted, and more. I would go back to my other paid VPN but hoping they fix whatever bug is in the latest versions because the blocking is why I paid for it.

Blocks websites that are not ads

LockdownPrivacy does not block ads it blocks complete websites. I had this installed on my phone as well as my Mac. I noticed that the blocking between the two were not even consistent. There were certain website I could not even visit I decided to call it quits when a brand new website that I am building made you blacklist on my Mac . It’s basically a website with Wordpress installed and that’s it. What is your way of blocking website? There is no ads on the website I am building. This seems for like censorship from the places I know LockdownPrivacy blocks. So goodbye. Just so everyone knows when you uninstall LockdownPrivacy if you leave it turned on it still blocks the website. Turn everything off before uninstall.

Persistent blocking after uninstall?

I use and love LockdownPrivacy . Absolute 5 stars from me. I recommended it to a few thousand small business owners and a few have mentioned that the Quickbooks mobile app doesn’t work with LockdownPrivacy so they uninstalled Lockdown (vpn config was thus turned off) and they are still unable to use Quickbooks’ app. This is a problem. It could be a coincidence but all had no problems before they installed LockdownPrivacy and then it stopped working. Another accesses Facebook via safari and LockdownPrivacy wouldn’t let that load but I use Facebook with Firefox and Lockdown every day with zero problems. Can the devs offer any assistance or insight with these issues? I will happily change my rating to 5 if I can get some help with this.

Most useful app in the App Store for the privacy conscious!

I wish it would tell you which apps are sending all these connections. I am disappointed with Apple’s responses to my privacy and security concerns about what my apps are doing on my phone. I won’t even get into it here, but suffice it to say Apple doesn’t really do their due diligence when it comes to security and privacy resolutions in the wild. I am continually left in the dark after reporting serious issues. We need more control over what these app developers are doing with our highly confidential data.

By

It’s a trap!

So basically you sign up for this “free” service and give an unknown company your email address. Said company then begins funneling all of your online activity through their VPN. But are they now associating all of your online activity with personally identifiable information? If LockdownPrivacy is free and the service is free, how are they making money?

By

Firewall? I think not.

If you want to see what a true iOS firewall is, look up Firewall IP, an app that ran/runs on jail broken devices. That app gave you true firewall capability with the ability to block by IP V4 or V6 addresses and hostname. It also allowed you to block TCP and UDP ports.

This is not a firewall. A firewall doesn’t need a VPN to function. This is a blacklist. For this to be effective, a dialog box should pop up alerting you to every connection trying to come in or go out and from that dialog box you should be able to block at LockdownPrivacy level or across the board. With this, you have to know which websites to block. I don’t see how this is any different from Guardian Firewall + VPN.

Today’s update

LockdownPrivacy worked very well until today’s update. Now unable to connect to WhatsApp, Instagram and Gmail through the native mail app. Had to delete Lockdown until this is fixed.

New update brought back full functionality to LockdownPrivacy , along with some new features. Does what it’s supposed to do! Thanks for the fix and the update!

FIXED!! Blocks Apple? FIXED!!

Wow!
5 stars review.

On iPhone with IOS 12.4 it works!
The Apple services are working now after this update!
MAN, that is fast.
Upgraded from 3 to 5 stars.
Iphone is 😀
iPad is 😀

Prior 3 star review.
On wifi only iPad with IOS 12.4 this blocks Apple services like; App Store, iTunes Store, Apple News. Other websites appear to work but, haven’t tested every one. Used the default settings. Cannot find where any “ALLOW” feature is located so stuck....
I had high hopes for LockdownPrivacy after reading the write up in 9to5 MAC, got it turned off for now.
Please fix soon or I guess I will delete.
IPhone-Happy 😀
IPad-Disappointed.🙁

Works great

0.1.6 update, works again with no issues

0.1.5 update, same issue still

Latest update, 4th/5th of August now blocks all internet access. Once disabled, everything works again. Will go back to 5 star when that is resolved and I can use LockdownPrivacy again.

By

Love it!

Its amazing how much your habits are tracked, this is essential for anyone who takes their privacy settings. I do have one itty bitty issue though, after this last update I’m noticing that I can’t use my gifs inside my iMessage. Any suggestions? It worked great until todays update. Thanks again for a great product.

By

Good, even great but...

It does a good job of blocking trackers from any inputted domain. So that is fantastic.

On the other hand, it cannot run while my vpn runs, which is weird because it seems it did when I first downloaded it. It also used 258mb of data in like a week, and it was my understanding that LockdownPrivacy does all its magic on the phone without calling home. What was that data used for I wonder?

By

This app is a godsend!

Love the fact that its a firewall that runs locally on the device and does not direct traffic through a server based filter. It was eye opening to see how many trackers native apps were bringing onboard. The development team was quick to respond to my query. Great app. Would highly recommend.

By

Impressive so far

I have hoped for an app like this for a long time. It seems to not work if jailbroke which is disappointing, but that’s easy enough to find a work around. If that were fixed & the ability to add custom batch block lists, this would be 5 stars. Thanks for the awesome software devs

No, Editor Choice?

I’ve been using Lockdown since they first came out.
It has done what it says it does. Tips i can give is that if you block Facebook, it can mess up signing into game apps that you have signed in with your Facebook account.

I used to use AdBlock and AdGuard for VPN and it did slow down my device internet speed, but Lockdown doesn’t. A huge plus why it should be a choice to use.

For the developers, please make it have landscape mode for the iPad... the zooming makes it look ugly. Make it compatible with the iPad completely
